Full show transcript:

From time to time I get to talk about my algorithm and it goes in stages.

Like sometimes it's RC cars, and

sometimes for some unreason, unknown reason it's trains. And I go, what is happening? Right now, all drift

boats.

Just drift boats after drift boats after drift boats. And then occasionally an art project. And then I got uh this morning I got a video for uh one of my favorite things to watch is uh restoration of like old toys and stuff. I could watch this stuff for hours because it's just ASMR, there's no talking, it's just the sound of someone like taking apart an old cast iron skull in this case. It's a Halloween one, and he's taking out the screws, and it's got like simple mechanism in it that teeth, it's a piggy bank. So when you put the coin in, it makes the eyeballs poke out, but it's all cast iron, and so he's taking the screws out. He's gonna refinish it and make it look new as this really old toy, and it's really cool, and I can watch them, and I got this one pulled up, and I'm like looking forward to later today when I'm doing some mundane task so that I can turn on the video in the background while I'm doing something boring uh and watch a toy be restored. I'm looking forward to it. I know my algorithm knows me pretty good. Drift boats, fly time, art projects, restoration videos. It's got it all. I've I've really fine-tune my algorithm.

It's that sounds so boring, but I'm

happy that uh

that works for you.

What's in your algorithm?

All kinds of stuff,

yeah. Funny videos.

I got funny stuff.

I've got uh quilting stuff that comes up sometimes.

Uh-huh.

Yeah. And then

I got

you got your uh the people you follow for their fashions.

Yeah.

You get their stuff.

Yeah, well, I've got like there's a couple of uh middle-aged women that I follow

and they have fashion videos, and they're like, how to turn a boring outfit into something fun. And then dance videos.

You like those a lot. I really like people

dancing.

Um Yeah.

No

food, no, like here's a recipe. No, yeah, no, cooking's not your thing. Sometimes I get those. I like food. I'll watch videos of food, but don't show me videos of cooking because I'm not gonna watch that.

I watch those. Those come up.

come up sometimes. I like those. Those are pretty good. Yeah, you're like, you should make this.

Okay. Well, anyway, I'm gonna go check out my algorithm. Let's start today's show.

Enjoy.

Hello. Hi.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

Uh 97.3. What? What? Is that your uh throwback to REM asking uh what's up?

Yeah,

what's going on?

Yeah, it is.

Yeah. All right. What is the frequency?

Um hmm.

what's the 411? What's the skinny? What's haps?

Nothing. You always ask me bright and early in.

I don't know what's going on. I just I just woke up. I don't

know.

I just I just rolled out of bed. I'm just here. What? What do you want?

What feel? Okay, I normally wear like chucks, like Converse.

Yeah.

And like sneakers and jeans and a t-shirt, usually.

Right.

And today I got a little bit dressier.

I know.

Because I bought this new skirt.

And it's awesome.

It is awesome.

Is it corduroy?

Yeah.

Yeah.

It's like a

dark blue corduroy.

Yeah.

It's cool. It's very fall, very warm.

It is very warm.

And I put on some little sweater leggings, yeah.

Sweater, sweater tights, is that what they're called? Mm-hmm.

Yeah. And then you you have on uh little clipcloppy shoes.

A boot.

Yeah, a fall boot. And uh not like uh not like an

Ugh or

not like a tall Han Solo style boot.

No, it's like a little bit.

Just a little, yeah, a little cute ankle boot, and you're clip-clopping around the house, and you said, are the shoes too much?

I feel like I'm too much. Because this isn't normally how I dress.

That's why you feel like you're too much. You look great.

Thanks, Josh. Feeling great.

You should feeling great.

Feeling good

selling it.

I just whenever I wear clothes like this, I feel like a poser because

what are you posing as?

A person who has these clothes?

I guess you own them.

That's true.

What are you posing as? I feel like a poser every time I'm not wearing Chuck Taylor sneakers and rolled up jeans. I know. I don't know. I'm uh wearing pretty much the usage. I do like the shirt though. I have on uh a long sleeve blue shirt.

And I like I like that shirt. You do look nice and green pants.

You look nice. Yeah, mixed blue and green.

Look at we're fall today. We should take a photograph.

A fall photo?

Yeah.

Why?

Because we look so nice today.

Oh, well, don't go telling everybody we clean up nice. Showered and everything.

I mean what are you gonna do?

I'm a clean person.

He's a clean boy.

Yeah. That's right. Anyway, well, good morning. You look great. The boots are not too much. Thanks

Josh Did you bring another pair of shoes? No.

I thought you might have just throwing them in.

I thought about it.

I'm glad you didn't. Brave it, you know?

Yeah. Well, people are gonna be like, what's what's so fancy today?

They'll be like, where's your job interview?

Yeah.

That's what they're gonna say. You're trying to work somewhere else? What's going on? Why are you all dolled up? Well, you look good. And good morning. All right, let's do some good news here. Today is National First Responders Day.

Uh huh.

Um, and uh the firehouse subs restaurant chain is celebrating with uh three real life hero dogs. Um and so they've got these limited edition plushies that are modeled after three hardworking first responding dogs, which I think is fun.

So they're highlighting these uh these three Stone, Ember, and Echo. Stone is a life saving search and rescue golden retriever. Ember is a fire safety ambassador, Dalmatian, and Echo is a Minnesota police canine German Shepherd. And now you do have to pay for these, but a hundred percent, they're like 10 bucks each. Uh 100% of the proceeds uh will go directly to the public safety foundation to provide critical life-saving equipment, first responders, uh, and canine units across the country uh so you can get this cute little souvenir and you can help heroes across the country. And I think that's pretty good. That is great.

Um hundred percent of the profits from those uh those three plush toys uh will go directly to the firehouse subs public safety foundation.

I'm surprised

our daughter hasn't seen these yet. I know she saw like a pickle or something from Jimmy Johns.

Yeah, and she's like, I want these pickles,

but she doesn't want to eat the sandwich. She's like, I don't want to do that. I just want the toy. What is it with toys, man?

I don't know.

They've been doing this forever. Put a toy in it. Kids go crazy.

Yeah,

kids

put it in the box of cereal.

I can't wait to get my kaleidoscope. Anyway, uh that is good news.

This is big news.

What's up?

People have been begging for cereal to have a like a resillable bag.

Malto meal, is that what they're called?

Malto meal?

What are they called? No, not malto meal. What are they called? Isn't that who makes the bags?

Oh, the bag stuff?

Yeah, yeah. Uh yeah. Isn't that right?

No.

What's wrong with my brain right now? I'll tell you what's wrong, is I haven't purchased cereal in a long time.

Okay, but if you buy a cereal in a box, people have been begging for those bags inside the cereal boxes to have a resillable bag. Okay.

You know, because half the time when you open those, you have to like crumple them back up to seal them, or put a clip on there to seal it. Well, guess what? Or just buy malt meal. Is it

maltomal?

Yeah, it is. They're the ones who make like all the you know secondary

It's not called tricks, it's called fruity blasts. Yeah,

you know,

the generic

Yeah,

but you get way more for the money, and they're in a resealable bag already and have been for a long time. Kinda, depending on how you open it.

Yeah, if you open it right.

Okay, well, there's a thing called pantry seal, and they've teamed up with Cheerios.

So in the Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios

boxes, you can get a resillable syllable cereal bag.

Say that

resillable cereal bag.

Resealable cereal bag. Is that what you wanted me to

say? A

resealable cereal bag.

Resealable cereal bag.

Resalable cereal bag.

You have to say it. Resealable cereal bag.

Okay.

Um, the best part is that there's gonna be a spout also.

A spout.

Yeah, to help you pour your cereal better.

I've never had an issue.

What are we trying to fix?

This isn't broken. The

ceiling, the resillable bag needs fixed for sure. It's fine. You roll it down. It's fine. It's not that's not. You just get put it in a resillable bag.

Why?

Because.

No. It's you just roll the

plastic bag down and you close the cardboard tops. But wouldn't you rather have a researchable bag?

I would. No.

Well, now they have it.

I didn't ask for it. It's not broken. What a partnership.

It is a partnership. People have been begging for this.

Who? I've seen people on the internet that are like, why not? Why doesn't cereal companies and Ziploc bags team up to form a cohesive cereal unit?

And now they have. Not Ziploc, though.

I've never asked.

for this. Pantry seal.

Pantry seal. They're trying to get in on the uh the resealable bag game in your kitchen. Because everybody opens the drawer, and what do they have? Ziploc sandwich bag. And now these guys are like, we're trying to make a name for ourselves. When have you ever heard of pantry seal?

Hey, hey, what is your beef?

This wasn't needed. Roll the bag down like we've been doing forever. Close the cardboard tabs, put it away.

I thought you'd be excited about this.

I don't know why. It's a waste. Wow. I don't know why you're so upset about the resyllable. cereal bag. Because it's unnecessary.

It's not. It's very funny.

When have you ever rolled the bag down and clipped it inside the box?

What?

You said earlier that you law for a long time, people have had to come up with creative ways to keep their cereal rolled shut. No, I haven't. I've rolled the bag down and I've closed the cardboard tabs and put it in the pantry. I'm moving on with my life. What are you talking about?

Well, fine. Forget I even brought it up.

You have to do it. I'm sure. No, I do, but I'm one guy. I'm sure that your excitement about this has there are other people who are like, I've been waiting for this news.

Yeah. The craziest part is that it's only in two cereal bags, and you can only get it at Walmart.

Okay. You know what else is crazy?

What?

You don't need it. It's fine.

You do need it.

Oh, somebody out there.

Raise your hand if you're excited about it.

Just you. It's only you. Oh man. Well.

Raise your hand if you're a grumpy gus this morning.

I'm not grumpy at all. I just don't see the point. It didn't need to be fixed.

Yeah, it did. People's cereal getting stale.

Eat it faster. Why are you pointing like that? What are you doing?

I was pointing at a pantry. My cereal's getting stale.

Eat it quicker. You know what?

There's a box of uh honey o's.

Yeah. In

the

started ripping up my mouth. I can't eat them.

Oh, I love them so much.

I forgot they were there.

I was thinking about cereal in the in the pantry, and that's the one we have. It's probably stale because you know why?

You think that little Ziploc's gonna keep it from getting stale?

Yeah.

No.

Not because how long's that box been on the shelf? It's been there for a while.

Yeah. It doesn't matter if it's a zippered shut bag or not. It's gonna do the same thing over time.

All right, we understand.

I just don't see the point. I know you're you've made your point. If everybody If everybody was like, we throw away the box, the cereal comes in the box, and then we have this loose open bag hanging out in the pantry.

Sometimes people do that. I've done that before.

Quit being weird. Leave it. in the box.

And also, people always pour their cereal into like different containers too.

Quit doing that.

There's no need to now. Quit

doing. that. Resyllable cereal bags. It's a waste.

It's not. Good idea.

An unnecessary idea.

Totally serious.

This is where we live now. Totally serious. Unnecessary, totally serry. That's not even the oh man. Halloween is coming up this weekend. It is Halloween week all this week, and you know what else is happening on uh Saturday night.

What's that?

An extra hour of Halloween.

Oh, that's right.

I knew that. Yeah, Halloween gets an extra hour. It's a rare calendar quirk. But Halloween falls on Saturday, as does daylight saving time ending just a few hours after Halloween. Uh because at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 1st, we fall back. So the one o'clock hour gets to play twice.

Hooray.

Hooray! Because when when it's one o'clock in the morning and you're like counting down, you get to do a big countdown 2 a.m. And then it's 1 a.m. again. So you get an extra long Hollow Z.

Okay. If you could use that extra hour to relive one hour of your life. What would you choose?

What hour would you choose? But let's say let's let's close this is huge. It's way too broad.

Okay.

So let's say in the last daylight saving time that we've had one fewer hour, you get this extra hour, you fall back, but you can only relive an hour from the time and daylight saving that we're part of right now.

What?

Listen, when when we spring forwarded, right?

When time changed and we we sprung ahead, yes,

and we lost an hour. From then to

now you get to relive one hour. Why?

Because that's where the hour was lost.

Why can't I go back to whenever I want?

Because it's too broad.

It's not.

Yeah. Okay.

What hour would you pick from spring forward to fall back?

No, I gotta think. I got I got real busy about the specifics of the time period.

Yeah, you did.

And now I've got to think about well, I don't know. What are you picking?

I don't know.

Did you have a big uh any time answer?

What's your big any time? My big any time answer would have been the hour that I met you.

Oh, you're so romantic.

But you said I can't.

Why do you want to relive that hour?

Because it was fun.

Whoa.

Right after, like we had met, we'd gone to a concert, and then right after the concert, we didn't want to say goodbye.

Yeah, you want to relive that hour.

Yes. Because that was a lot of fun. Yeah.

Yeah.

So I can't. It's too broad. So I guess I'll pick.

Well, I just was trying to make it so it was within the last, you know, six months or something. So that it was like

Oh, I

know what you were trying to do. It was too broad. So let's Well anyway I can't think of

anything I can't either.

now Because

now you've made it not broad enough.

My fault.

Try to play a fun game. Yeah.

It was. And then I just ruined it.

I ruined it. It's my fault. If you could go full broad, what would you pick?

Uh same.

You can't pick my same answer.

Why not?

It's

a good answer.

It is a good answer. It is the best answer. And you blew it.

Well, anyway, uh, don't forget on uh Sunday time change. Uh check your smoke detectors. We always uh like to do that. Uh make sure your batteries are fresh. You know, that's a good time to do that. If you have a fire extinguisher in your home, make sure it's uh also good.

No one's gonna do that.

I just am saying it's a good time to remember. It's a good time to remember to uh check your furnace filter, make sure it's in tip top shape.

Okay, I'm gonna write these down.

Okay,

and I'm gonna make you do them.

All right.

What what do we fire extinguisher?

Yeah.

Okay.

It should be fine. It's less than a year old and it's in the garage, it's good to go.

Batteries.

We we should check.

Furnace filter.

Yeah, it should check that. Okay.

Next.

Anything else? Okay.

I

don't know.

We're gonna do it. I'm gonna hold you to this.

Okay. This is an unusual Halloween uh daylight saving time change combo. It's rare, as I said, it Halloween won't fall on a Saturday again until 2037.

Sheesh.

Yeah, so it'll be 11 years from now that Halloween will be on a Saturday again. And look, I I still stand by the argument that I understand it's been 1031 forever, but Halloween should be the last Saturday in October.

Agreed.

It just should be. But I don't control any of that.

Who does?

Whoever is in charge of the holidays.

Who's in charge of holidays?

Not me.

Same. Don't

forget though, time change on Sunday. I have very exciting news. I found treasure. I was cleaning my studio a little bit yesterday. Evening. Found something.

Your home studio. Yeah. Okay.

I found something.

What'd you find? I know what you found.

I found treasure I thought I had lost.

Is it the certificate of the piece of moon you own?

That's right. We were talking about it a couple of months ago. I was stressed out. I thought I had lost it. I found our land on the moon. I know. I knew you'd be excited.

It's a nice episode. We were talking about our land about this.

Well, the certificate is for Josh Tielor. So it might be a problem. But that's fine. But this right here is a it's a it's got a seal on it. It's very legitimate.

It sure is

official.

It's a big deal. Peak.

I'd like you to see where our land is. It's a nice parcel. Right near a crater. I'm so excited to show this to our son because he's gotten so into astronomy and stuff. I want him to locate our piece of land in his telescope. I want to see it.

Be it known and proclaimed to all.

I know. It's a big deal.

It's an official document. Is recorded as the true and legal owner of the property located at Mayor Sarentite.

That's right.

Sarin Sarin. What is it?

Serendatus?

The Sea of Serenity.

That's right.

And it gives you the latitude and longitude.

I have that. Yeah.

As designated on Luna, Earth's moon. And duly recorded by the International Lunar Lands Registry.

I know. We have land on the moon.

2004. This is officially registered and

recorded by the Lunar Registry

at New York City and legally certified on September 2nd, 2004.

We've owned this land for years.

This might be a legal document.

I know. It is. That's our deed to land on the

moon.

So there's our parcel. You can see it there.

Did you get to pick the parcel? No.

Are they picked for you? I don't think I did.

How much acreage?

That much.

How much is that?

I'm looking.

It doesn't say anywhere. And it only lists you as the owner. It doesn't list me.

Well, you're coming with me.

Okay. When

we go to our moon land. If you die, then I don't have any claim to this, probably. No, but we you know what we could do

is we should take these documents in and go, hey.

I would like to uh look. I have an actual like uh assignment of land claim.

Gee.

I know. Like this is this is very real. I can't read this. It's so small.

It is small. I still don't know how much you have.

How much land?

Yeah.

I'm looking. It's right here. Somewhere. Oh,

you

put on your reading glasses. Here it is. Vava boom. No, it doesn't say how large the parcel is.

Oh. This

just says where it is located.

Okay.

But this is uh this is pretty real. I mean, all the paperwork matches all the documents and the deeds and everything.

We're in the Sea of Serenity.

Isn't that sound nice?

It does sound nice.

We're right next to that crater. It's kind of a cool looking piece of land. We can go explore. And I do have uh this CD ROM that it came with, which is a full moon atlas.

So we could actually probably measure it out. I fired up that CD ROM. Oh, and here's here's my uh from the Department of Citizenship. I've also been granted uh I've been granted a certificate of naturalized citizenship.

Done the moon?

On the moon.

What?

Yeah, I'm part

of the lunar republic. I

have dual citizenship. This is a good deal.

Please retain this document for future reference.

Yeah, I have. I thought I lost all this,

but the individual identified below has been granted full rights of citizenship in the Lunar Republic.

Yeah.

Hot digity dawn.

I know. You didn't know I was a moon mate.

I did know that you owned a piece of the moon. I did not realize that you had moon citizenship.

I don't know how to tell you this, but

Honorary. Since 2004, honorary citizenship.

That's right. Is that like an honorary doctorate? I'm not really a doctor, but I've got like an honorary doctorate.

Okay. It says you may be asked to provide proof of citizenship in order to vote in elections.

Oh.

To purchase lunar property in the future or to participate in certain official proceedings. We invite you to visit the Lunar Republic Society website.

Yeah

for more information.

Cool.

And the latest news on our progress.

I need to check out that website.

Yeah, you do. Wouldn't that be so hilarious if this declaration of citizenship was in Comic Sands? Ugh.

Yuck. Okay, hold on. So the

Lunarepublic.com.

Lunar Republic.

No, Luna.

Luna.

Lunar. You're right. Lunar. L-U-N-A-R.

You think I would know.

I am a citizen.

A citizen. And in

order to

your own land on the moon, starting at under $20.

Did

you look at that?

Did you pay?

No.

How did you get this?

I knew a guy.

Okay. Well, second step is to see if this parcel of land on the moon that you

own

is also owned by somebody else.

That is a potential problem.

Yeah. I think they're probably just giving away the same land multiple times.

I don't think that's true.

I just have a gut feeling about it.

You think it's a scam?

I just have a gut feeling.

Hold on. Here's the deal. I'm looking at the website. And there's a these are official documents. They're legit.

Okay, but what are you seeing on the website?

They've upgraded some of their stuff. What's a little frustrating is that on the website where you go to buy your land, the picture that they show of the land is the same picture

that I have. I'm saying it's literally the exact same. They're selling this piece of parcel.

Yeah.

Over and over and over. Well, now this one's different. So then it's gonna have to be when we do go to the moon, it's gonna be like a big race with a flag to see who can put their flag in the land first.

Like just like when the West was settled. That's right.

I've seen that movie. with Tom Cruise. It appears to be

About five acres.

What?

I got five acres of moon land.

Well, you and everyone else.

Well, I have a I have official documents. They're stamped.

Well, everybody got those official documents.

No, I think they just really liked the land they gave me, so they used it in the demo photo. They're like, that's the best land we've got. And we gave it to Josh Tielor .

You are an official, you have to sign your citizen card.

Yeah, I can do that. That's easy. Um

But

for 22 years. I've been a moon, a moon man.

You also get a 10% discount on any purchase of lunar property.

Nice.

So you could buy a piece of land on the moon for somebody else.

And give it as a gift.

Plus get an additional 5% discount for any property purchase of five or more acres.

If you want to buy 10 acres, it's $27 per acre. So you can you can go to this website, you can drop 270 dollars and you can own 10 acres in the Sea of Tranquility near where we'll live on the moon.

On the Sea of Serenity is where we are.

Oh, that's uh we're in the Sea of Serenity. You can't buy there anymore. Tranquility, Lake of Dreams, Bay of Rainbows, Lunar Alps, and Lake of Happiness. Let me see if you can still get into uh

The

Sea of Serenity? sanity. Yeah.

No, we don't want any neighbors.

You you still can dang it.

Yep.

You can still buy land near us if you want. We're

good neighbors. We're up on the uh upper right hand side of the moon. It's a good spot. It's a good I'm impressed you found that your documentation

when we go to the moon, we're

gonna stake our claim.

The land that we own is more expensive than the Sea of Tranquility. I'm just gonna say we have a good piece of land.

You were still trying to find a Halloween costume last night.

Yeah. I got to wear one on...

Friday.

Friday, and then I figure Saturday is Halloween, so we should have a costume. I found one.

Well, I was giving you a lot of ideas. You were looking at some of the Ninja Turtle costumes.

Yeah, listen, you wanted me to dress up like budget Donatello. And and I don't care for it. You're like, no, have you seen where people will go get those like turkey pans from the store and paint them green? And I went, I'm not doing that.

And then they wear them on their back

like a shell.

They look great.

No, they don't look cool.

And you were getting all mean about it. You were like, I'm not gonna be junk man.

You kept

I said I'm not going to look like garbage.

I'm gonna walk around like garbage ninja turtle. It's crazy. What are you talking about? I want like a real cool, legit teenage mutant ninja turtle costume. Like a really good one. And you're over here like, well, just spray paint a tin pan.

No. Junk man.

Yeah.

Junk ninja turtle. No, because here's the thing. If you do it right, it could look cool. And you would do it right because you're good at stuff.

I don't want to do that. It sounds awful. It's gonna look like junk man. It's gonna look like I had four dollars. It's a it's a green morph suit with orange felt abs on it and a tin can turtle shell and a mask

with just terrible fabric with holes cut in it that aren't even. I can see it. It's junk man. I'm not

going as no. No.

I think that's so funny.

I think it's funnier to go as the junk ninja turtle than to buy an actual costume. Junk ninja.

Turtle I did, and I don't want to do it.

Just imagine.

You show up to the party. Yeah.

Junk Donatello.

And you know your costume was trash, but you walk in with the confidence that your costume is amazing.

No.

And everyone's like, oh.

Yeah. And

you're like, I know.

So you need to borrow money. That's what they're gonna say. They're gonna look at me and be like, are you okay?

No, you're gonna be

like junk turtle.

Yeah, I made it. Doesn't it look so good?

Yeah, I made it. They're gonna go, nu-uh. No way. You made that?

Dude, I'm telling you, it makes me laugh so hard. Next year, I'm writing this down.

You want to be junk budget ninja turtle?

Yep.

No.

No. I think it's so funny. And then you have to you have to wear it with the confidence that it looks

amazing.

Yeah.

See, the one that I want is uh is really nice. They're really good.

They're they're foam and how much are they?

200.

Dude, get out of

here. This

is why you have to go as junk ninja turtle, because we can't afford that.

I know. I'm aware.

Where are you looking? I want to see the good costume.

There's even some good ones. Like, there's some really good masks and stuff.

Okay.

Um on Etsy and stuff, but they want like $200 for the mask. Anyway, there's just this website uh that has these. Let me see if I can go.

Where's this at? I'm telling you, right here in here.

Yeah, some of these are more like Etsy's got a lot of them, but there's like we

could

make some cool ones.

We could have made who's your favorite, Donatello.

Yeah. What's his weapon? The bowstaff.

The bow staff. We could have made a bow staff out

of what?

Well, look, I'm looking right here.

Well, look.

You take like a pool noodle.

No.

And you wrap it.

Oh, no.

I'm also not doing a pool noodle bow staff. No.

And then you take masking tape and you wrap it around the middle. No.

Dude, I'm telling you. Who has the who has the nunchucks? The Michelangelo. I have I have a instruction on how to make that out of pool noodles. Dude, I could make we could make the whole Ninja Turtles that let's go as budget all of us. There are four of us in my family. Next year we're going as budget turtles. I don't want to be

budget turtles.

Dude, this guy made

a quit saying dude.

He

made a legit turtle shell out of, you know, those little foam floor mats

that you see in like daycares and stuff.

The foam.

That's what I said. The foam floor mat.

Okay.

He made he made a turtle shell out of that, and it looks legit. That does not look budget. I'm gonna I'm gonna make us turtles. This is my mission. It's gonna, it's not gonna be budget. You just wait. It's gonna be so good.

Yarn holding the shell on. It's gonna be terrible.

Okay, you have a boat. You bought a boat the other day.

Yeah.

So now we're boat

people. Boat owners. Or boat people. Yeah. You uh I was I was putting away some stuff. I was checking out the boat. I was sorting out the anchor rope. I was doing some stuff uh in the boat, and you walked up with your camera and said, What you doing, bud? Because I was sitting in the boat on the trailer in front of the house, and you're like, what are you doing?

Well, it looked like you were just sitting in it, like

Yeah, I'm just sitting

here. Going to sit in my boat.

just dreaming about being on the water in this boat.

Yeah, who buys a boat in the middle

of

cold weather? First

of all, there's still boat water out there. You just gotta tough it out. You gotta dress warm.

I'm not gonna.

You're not gonna? Mm-mm.

I don't do cold. I am a fair weather kind of gal. You know this.

I know.

I don't do cold.

I know.

So you think I'm gonna bundle up to go get on the water?

Yeah.

You're

insane.

Bro. You tell me when it's 60 degrees outside. Uh, 60's still a bit cold.

Today.

It's Still cold.

I know it's still cold this morning. But

it's gonna be nice. You were putting some stuff in the boat.

And I said, Don't aren't you afraid that somebody's gonna steal that? And you said it had a lot of it. I put a net. Well, you know, I put I put a net in the boat. That's what I did. I put a net and a towel.

I know, but people That's it.

A net and a towel.

Why'd you put a towel out there?

Oh, because I had a towel that I carry around in my fly fishing stuff, so I put that in the boat. I have a towel and a net. It's not like I'm filling it full of like gold coins.

What do you Well, ever and I were watching from the window because she goes, he really likes that boat.

He's just sitting in it. Like, I know I know. I wasn't just sitting in it. I was sorting out the anchor cord, but go ahead. The anchor line was tangled up, and so I was I was straightening it out.

Do you know how to operate that boat?

How to operate it.

Mm-hmm.

Yeah.

Well, you know how to put it in the water.

Yeah.

And you know how to take it out of the water.

Yeah.

You know how to row it?

Yeah.

Okay. You're buddy. You sent a picture to your buddy who actually taught you.

He's the buddy that taught you how to fly a fish. Yeah, he's the one that got me all hooked on the ball.

And he says to you, now you gotta teach Chantel how to row.

That's right.

You don't know me very well at all. You think I'm gonna be out there rowing the boat.

The reason that you would that you would teach someone else how to row is so that then you can fish.

Oh, I'm fully aware.

Yeah.

I'm not rowing that boat.

But you might. You might be like, actually, it'd be kind of fun to row this boat right now. No.

I'll never say that. You know why?

Because I'm gonna

I'm gonna be sitting on the back with a sandwich reading my book. I don't have time to row.

I'm gonna I'm gonna go ahead

and row the boat ashore.

Okay. Michael. Listen.

What?

Uh you might at one point be like, I've had a nap, I'm out of sandwiches, I finished my book. I got nothing else to do right now. I think I might want to row.

I might row as like this could be fun, but I'd be I'm gonna be so bad at it because

why? Because

I'll tell you why. Because I think it would be funny if you're like, okay, go row me over there because I think there's fish over there, and then I totally row you in the opposite direction.

You're gonna do that anyway. Not because you're being funny, just because you'd be like, I don't know what I'm doing.

Okay, I did tell you that you need a name for your boat.

You gotta name them.

Most of the time, boat names are named after like a lady.

Yeah. So

what are you gonna name it?

Chantel's nap pod. No, I don't know.

There's nowhere to nap on that boat.

Yeah, there is. You could even like lay on the bottom if you want and just lay on the floor.

It's wet on the floor, usually.

Why?

Because stuff water gets in. I'm not laying on the floor of the boat.

I'm saying You could. Tomorrow. Beautiful. 56.

Cold. Okay, I gotta I gotta name.

What?

A boat time.

No, we're not doing a pun. We're not calling it a no.

Why?

Because you named your kayak. Yeah, boy. No. We're not doing a pun.

Well, okay.

Okay. Come up with something awesome.

Like what?

I don't know yet.

T nubs.

No.

That's short for turkey nubbins, which is not a thing.

That's not. No, it's not that. That doesn't even. No.

We have a group chat with some of our friends. And we we got a random text yesterday from one of our friends that said, based on vibes alone, am I a door, a window, a staircase, or a mirror?

Yep.

And our our other friend responded and said, You're definitely a window, and here's why. And

then had really nice things to say. Really, really nice things. Right.

And then she said, Is that AI? And he said, No, that's from the heart.

Yeah.

I still don't know if it was AI or not. And then she said, okay, now Josh is Josh's turn.

Yeah.

And he said, Josh is definitely a staircase.

Right.

He said, whether you're entertaining people on the radio, mentoring young men and scouts, being a husband and dad, or just being a downright great friend. You're constantly lifting people up.

Like stairs.

And the best part, you're not the guy standing at the top telling everyone to climb. You're the guy walking beside them, making them laugh along the way.

Yeah. It was super nice.

It was really nice.

And then And then you are a door.

I'm a door.

And not because you're like a door, but because of these awesome traits. Again, nice.

I know he said, not just any door. You're the door everyone wants to open because they know there's going to be laughter, fun, and probably something completely ridiculous, right waiting on the other side.

Yep. Yeah, there was more. Uh, but he also had something to say about how like you're the door at the top of the stairs or something. There was uh It

was really nice. He said, You're the door at the top of Josh's

staircase because you compliment each other so well. Right.

How nice.

I know. Isn't that Isn't that sweet?

I loved that.

Yeah.

I don't know where what.

Yeah, where did the question come from? That's what I was gonna say. Where do the initial am I a

window?

Window, door,

stairs. Are

you gonna look it up? Yeah.

Because I feel like that is something that's going around the internet, maybe. Based on vibes alone, are you a door, a window, a staircase, or a mirror?

Right.

Yeah, you looked it up.

Mirror is an additional thing. I think if you look at window door stairs, all I get is a bunch of building supplies. Ah, here you go. Personality tested or window stairs personality test is a viral psychology exercise.

It asks you to imagine standing in an empty room

and immediately choose one of the three options that appear in front of you. The door, the window, or the staircase. The door is the action taker, the window is the visionary, and the staircase is the achiever.

And what's the mirror?

Mirror isn't part of it. Hmm.

Interesting.

Yeah.

What would you think you are?

I don't know.

If you were trapped in a room.

I was in uh if you're in an empty room and a door, a window and a staircase appear in front of you,

and you have to choose one of those options. Which one do you choose? I would probably pick the window.

The visionary, observant, reflective, deeply analytical. You prefer to understand the big picture, look at all the perspectives, and ensure a path is safe before making a move. That's what it says about the window. If you choose the window.

Do you think that's me?

I don't know.

I don't either. What would you put?

I didn't say no. I said I don't know.

What would you say?

Me neither. Uh well, here's the door. The action taker says you're direct, practical, and dis decisive. Uh, you do not wait for things to happen. You fix problems immediately and value freedom and new opportunities.

Oh, that's not me.

Then the staircase, the achiever, your growth-oriented, ambitious, and disciplined. You view life as a long-term climb through continuous effort rather than looking for quick shortcuts.

No, that's not me either.

Yeah. Interesting. I don't know. I didn't, I didn't uh necessarily resonate with any of the three.

Yeah, same.

Yeah. But those are the three options, so gotta choose.

Well, and the mirror isn't one.

Not in this particular test, no.

Interesting. Well, it was a nice compliment from our friend yesterday. So thanks, Dana.

Yeah.

That was nice. What are we talking about? Okay. So at the beginning of the month, our daughter was like, I want to watch a scary movie every day in October. And I said, Ooh, like a scary movie club.

And she said, no, it doesn't need to be a club. Correct. It doesn't.

And I said, I don't know if I can participate in the scary movie club because watching a scary movie every day seems like a big commitment. I can't commit to every day. I can't commit to a movie every day. I just don't think that I'm gonna have the time. Well, she didn't want to watch the scary movies alone, and so she hasn't watched very many scary movies.

Okay. And she was feeling kind of sad about it yesterday.

We watched on Sunday. She and I sat down to watch a movie.

Yeah.

And we managed to watch Aliens.

We got through it.

Which is the best one of the alien trilogy.

The second one. Yeah. Okay.

It's the best one. And that one I don't necessarily know if it's scary. It's kind of scary.

Okay. What

are you looking up?

Nothing. Just trying to see what year that came out. I'm just looking at some stuff.

So we've watched, I think what we've watched so far, I don't know what she's watched by herself, but we watched Hue Balloween. We watched Aliens. And I think that's it. I think there have been two scary movies this whole month.

And does aliens count? Like I know it's what I'm saying.

sci-fi, But does that count as Halloween movies? That's what I'm saying.

Like Hubie Halloween certainly does. Because that's, you know, a Halloween movie.

I think it counts.

Okay. I

think it counts. Do you not think it counts? It's got Sigourney

Leaver in it I'm not saying it's a bad movie at all. It's a great movie. Um I am only saying that when I think of scary movies, it's typically the thrillers, the slasher films, those kinds of things.

Yeah, I get what you're saying.

Uh and aliens is a sci-fi. It it's a sci-fi action film.

But scary still.

Okay, I understand. There's jump scares and there's you know stuff in there. I just don't feel like that's a Halloween movie. I feel like that's an any time thriller sci-fi action movie.

Yeah.

But I don't necessarily like you haven't watched the Great Pumpkin yet.

And I'm not gonna.

Why does your distaste for Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin?

I d I don't know. I don't I just don't like it. I know there are a lot of people who do. It's just not my thing.

Man. I just don't know what to do with you about the great pumpkin. Charlie Brown.

Yeah, I know. It's just not my thing. It's okay. We can have things that not everybody likes. If you like it, that's great.

Do you know what year that came out?

The Great Pumpkin?

Yeah.

I'm gonna say 78.

66.

No way.

I gotta rock.

That's old.

It's so good. Yeah, I know.

Okay, I'll watch it. Here's the thing. I don't think I've ever sat down and actually watched it. So let's watch it. Tonight. Tonight. It's

the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown night.

Let's put it on the calendar.

We don't.

What?

We don't need to do that.

We'll forget.

Tell our daughter we won't forget.

Yeah, don't kidding. We were gonna play Mario Kart last night. And because I didn't put it on the calendar, guess what? We forgot.

I did forget.

See?

You could just set a reminder. You don't have to do a calendar thing.

What time do you want me to set a reminder for?

Seven. Eight. I don't know.

I don't know where I'm gonna be at seven. No

kidding sounds great. Eight sounds good. I'm probably busy at seven. Come on.

We got asked last night if we were night owls or early birds.

Yeah. I

said

we were night owls. I prefer being a night owl, but here's the thing about you being a night owl. You're not. Because 9:30, 10 o'clock hits. You're kind of like, I'm very sleepy. I could go to bed. So I think you're just you're just like sleeping.

I do like to sleep.

So being a night owl's not your thing.

No, it is. It always has been. And on the weekends, I stay up late. But on the week nights, I'm like, nah, I gotta get up early.

I gotta my body is like shutting down. Right. I've always been like a seven o'clock guy.

In the morning.

Like that's my preferred time to wake up. I prefer to wake up not at seven, but in the seven a.m. hour. I like seven AM.

That's my favorite. Agree with that.

Like if I wake up at seven thirty, seven forty like that's a few.

I know you like to be awake at that time.

Yeah. But you don't always wake up at that time. No, I get it. But that just feels like as I think about time. 7 30 is a great time to wake up. That feels right.

I like, well, I said I was. What did I respond? I told them that I was that I considered us night owls.

Yeah.

Um, but we shouldn't be because we have to wake up early every day.

I said, I do like being up early once I'm awake. Totally agree. But

I do

not wake up like waking up. Yeah. And I think that's the right answer because being a night owl versus being uh a morning person. Um can coexist. There are people that that can be like, yeah, I stay up till three, I get up at five. I sleep two hours. I'm an animal.

I can't exist like that.

And then I nap throughout the day.

I want to nap.

Yeah.

Yeah.

See, I think you just like sleep.

I do.

So I don't think you're either one of those. I don't think you're a morning person or a night owl. I think you're just a sleepy person.

Yeah. I

just like sleeping.

I like sleeping.

Right. So for you, that. For me, I don't mind. I can stay up way late. Like, I think I there are certainly days where I'm like, I am crashing right now. And I could I could go to bed. But then I like 7 30 so much.

My 7 30.

By that time. Like a but just as I like think about morning times, that's probably my favorite time to be awake. It's like 7 30. I feel like I've I feel like the whole day's ahead of me. I don't feel like I woke up too early or too late.

I don't like waking up too late. Uh I think that you do better in the woods, like if you're out camping.

Absolutely.

I think you're

if I'm on cycle with the sun, that's

awesome. your circadian rhythm works better

when you're in the mountains. Absolutely. Because you go to sleep, it's dark. There's nothing to do. That's our that's our caveman brain going like, hey, it's dark. You need to go into safety and put out your fire and go to bed.

And then you wake up and the sun's up. It's time to go. You got things to do.

Yes, absolutely.

Have you ever been camping in a tent

and you wake up and the sun is

blaring on your tent and it's so hot in your tent.

Yes, I have.

Like, this is awful.

Whose idea was it to sleep in a tent? I like sleeping in a tent.

I do not.

I don't mind it at all. I've got my comfy pad. I've got my new sleeping bag that's just amazing. I can have a cot in a tent if I want.

No.

Yes.

Sleeping in a tent is the worst.

I've I've not ever, and I and I want to, but I've never just cowboy camped under the stars. It's one of those things. We've been like, that's a thing I want to do.

You do at some point. I do not.

You don't? I don't have a desire to do that. What do you feel a tent provides that? Shelter.

One.

What kind?

Well, if it starts to rain, to do it.

I'm not getting a rain dog. Okay, let me let's put it in put it this way. It's a summer. It's a clear day, clear, star-filled sky night, no chance of rain. It's gonna be uh beautiful overnight temps or like 50s.

Okay.

So you're gonna be plenty warm.

Okay. Insects.

Okay, what about them?

The flying in your face.

Why?

Because you're sleeping outside.

Why are they why are they flying in your face?

Because they do. That's what they do.

Okay. So all right, go on. Is that it? Animals.

What animals? Raccoons.

Raccoons.

Yeah.

They're In the wild. Why are you getting attacked by raccoons?

I'm not saying that I'm getting attacked. I'm just saying they're gonna be wandering around. And they might attack. They might.

Okay. Porcupines.

All that stuff lives out there.

True. True. Raccoons, skunks, and porcupines. Porcupine.

And

the tent keeps you safe from all those things. Yes.

And the bugs. Yes.

And the rain.

Yes.

Okay. So you don't want a cowboy campaign.

No.

You don't just want to sleep under the stars.

Oh no. I do.

Like on the trampoline in your backyard.

Oh, I hate that. It's the coldest. If you sleep.

Well, yeah, that's because there's a ton of air underneath you.

As a kid, it was always like, oh, this is gonna be fun. Let's sleep on the tramp. And then you sleep in the trampoline and then you go. It's the worst idea I've ever had.

Five o'clock in the morning.

You're freezing to death. I've got Zero hours of sleep. That's the worst sleep you'll ever get is if you sleep on a trampoline. I've never even done that with my kids because I go, it's a bad idea.

Okay. Well. I don't know how we got here from night owl morning people, but here we are.

Now, like in the spring, the weather gets a little bit nicer, and so then you're like, oh, it's nice enough. I can go do some yard work.

Sure.

And then you work in the yard until it gets too hot. And then you go, it's too hot because now it's the middle of July and it's too hot to work in the yard.

Sure.

And then fall comes and you go, oh, the weather's cool enough again that I can go work in the yard. And you got about three weeks until it gets snowy and cold, and then you

don't

work in the yard again until the next time it gets warm again.

Yes. And

when the weather is cool enough to work in the yard, you just don't want to.

Right.

Like now.

Right.

Where we still have yard work to do.

I know.

You have a garden to put away.

I still have I've got it about halfway done. I really want to get the shelving situation taken care of in the greenhouse. Um, because it's a mess in there, and I need some storage. That's the issue.

Um then I had all these shelves, and then I didn't set them up in there, and then I put them up in the ceiling in the shed when I clean the shed, and so frustrated now because I have to get the ladder and get up in the top of the shed, and I shouldn't have done that. Sorry. I'm distraught about it.

Yeah, you're just sitting there rubbing your head.

I look at the greenhouse every day and I go, oh man. I gotta take care of that. I still have some weeds I'd like to pull before

the

whole thing's put away. Like I need to I got a lot to do. And I and no time. That's the hardest part, is that like I I finally got around to working in my home studio yesterday. It's something that I've been meaning to do

for like all year,

and I spent a good hour and a half or so in there, and I got a lot accomplished, but I now I'm at the point of where I'm like, okay, now I have to put stuff away in the closet. I've got to organize some wires that I just threw in there. I've got uh all of our family photos need to go somewhere because we got like three bins of those. I know.

What do people do with their photos? I just gotta figure out what to do with them because we've got boxes and boxes of photos.

I mean, you can scan them and then they're on a hard drive, but then again, like for what?

But then you still have physical copies that you don't want to throw away. I don't that's uh my big thing because I don't have room in my room. You don't have

room in your room. I

don't know where to put those. That's why they're in your room.

I know, because you took them out of your room and put them in mine. And now they're like and my room's like half the size of your room. I got a tiny little studio.

Yeah, well, I didn't want them in my room.

So well, I gave you one suggestion was we condense everything into

one bigger bin and we put it in storage at the garage, which I think

i that could work, or in the attic or something. Like we can put them away. We don't need them.

Okay, you were just complaining that you didn't have enough time to work in the yard or the garden.

I know.

But I think correct me as

a whatever you're gonna say next is wrong.

I think we had some time on Monday when we drove three hours to get a boat.

And If I wouldn't have been, listen,

I also

listen. If I wouldn't have been getting the boat, I would have been at my Monday scout meeting, right?

That's true.

It's not like I I I traded time for time. Like I don't have time.

But you also have time today.

If

you don't go fishing.

But

what about fishing? I'm with you. I don't I don't ever want to spend my free time doing things that are chores.

Right.

I hate it.

Yeah.

I hate chores.

Oh this is why people pay people. I know. I can't pay people, so it just sits undone.

Why can't you pay people?

I have money to pay people. About a boat. See? It's just dominoes.

Well, that's so dumb. I'm gonna pay somebody to come put some shelves in my greenhouse.

Who are you called to do that? No, I want to do that project. I just

You do?

Yeah, I just need to do it. I don't want to do it. It's why I haven't done it. But I but I need to do it.

Well, we cleaned out the shed too, and there's still some stuff that we pulled out from the shed that's just sitting in the lawn.

I know. I know. I get that taken care of.

We are trash people.

Yeah. Right. Junk people. Because we have a few things, the garden tools are laying out. Which those I've got a great idea for where to put them. I just I gotta clear out the weeds and then I'll have a spot to put those. It's just crazy.

Just chores. I hate chores.

All the time. They never end. Why?

I don't know.

Would you rather this or that?

Would you rather find a hidden room in your house that wasn't there that you'd noticed? So you discover a hidden room. In

your house.

In your house.

Yeah, okay.

Or you discover your basement that has the staircase that goes down. And you can't see the ending.

Oh, a hidden room.

A hidden room.

You'd rather have that. Yeah.

Scary.

No. Why is it scary? Imagine for a minute. Like our our basement, okay, is the same as uh the main level. It's the same size as the main level of the house.

Yeah.

It's a foundation, basement. They plop the house down on top. Then they do the concrete for the driveway and the uh garage and they build the garage over the top. But there's no rooms under the driveway

and garage, right?

So just for a minute, imagine there was all of a sudden there was this, you know, you're knocking on the wall to hang something, and it pushes through, and there's a room under the garage, and it's like what's in there?

Spooky.

Why is it spooky?

Why can't you? Why can't it be like I just cracked open like a whole hidden amazing uh collection of pinball machines?

What a dream. I would love that if I all of a sudden I like cracked it open and like it was just like uh sheets covering old pinball machines.

What a dream.

And then uh there's a light switch and I and I hit it and it makes that little like fluorescent light hum and goes and then and then the lights come on and they're kind of flickery and they kind of they like turn on in like a series, and then I take the cloths off the pinball machines, and it's like dust kind of flies up a little bit, and then I hit another switch and they all go bling bling bling and then turn it on. What a

dream! I

want that well,

that's not part of today's would you rather?

Well, you didn't say what was in the room, you just said it's a you discover a room. I discovered it.

Would that be the most amazing thing that would be in that room?

A whole arcade? Yes.

That's the most amazing thing.

Pinball machines, Miss Pac-Man, the

1949, the Ninja Turtle Arcade game, the 1949 airplane game. Um, yes. I would never see you again.

The off-road one with the steering wheels where the trucks you go around the little dirt track. Yep.

When when you get anywhere where there's a pinball machine, you're you're dead to me. Or I'm dead to you.

You are, yeah, just things don't exist.

But pinball. I'm a pinball wizard.

Do you know how cool that would be?

I have a picture of you. Uh we went to a friend's wedding a couple of years ago.

Yeah. And then we went to an arcade. And there's a picture of you very intensely playing a game of pinball. I like pinball. It's a thing you might not know about me. I like pinball.

I know you know that But that's a thing not everybody knows.

I like pinball.

And if there's a pinball machine nearby, Josh will forget that you even exist. It's true.

It's a good thing we didn't go

on a first date to a pinball arcade. Because I never would have had a second date. You never would have had a second date. I would have been like, this guy, forget about it.

Like, where'd she go? I was just playing pinball and now she's gone.

All right, so what are you taking? Hidden room or creepy dark staircase. I'll take a hidden room.

What's in your hidden room?

I don't know. Is it scary or is it cool?

I told you what's in mine. It was dusty and dark, and there was sheets covering things, and then when I turned on the creepy light and it went and they and they all lit up, and then I took the sheets off, and it was an arcade.

I liked the noise you made for the lights. Yeah.

Make that noise again. I it's gone.

The hum.

Yeah, it's fine. What's in your room?

I don't know. I don't know. I'm thinking about it.

Creepy dolls.

No, why? Why is my room have to be creepy? And you get a nice room. How come you get a room of dreams and I get a creepy room? That's not fair.

A room of porcelain dolls?

Ew.

And one music box. Ew.

Why do I have to

have- But you can't turn off the music box. And it's got that little ballerina, just turn it around. You know what I mean? And you close the lid and it keeps playing.

And she you can hear her turning inside the box. Like open that box back up. I want to room of dreams.

What's in your room?

I don't know.

And it's full of porcelain dolls and one creepy music box you can't turn off. And one ventriloquist

dummy.

And six marionettes. Dangling. You have a terrible room.

I know.

They're kind of clanking in the breeze, dangling. Yeah. I don't know. I like my room way better. Would you Rather this or that.

We have a family group chat.

Yeah.

And my R daughter.

Yeah.

Just said, can you guys see my car? Like on the road? Like in

general. Yes. And

you and I both were like, what?

I'm like, what is she asking? Because like, is she saying, like, are you she's driving by and she wants to know if we can see your car?

Yeah. Yeah. And I go, can we see your car? And she goes, Yeah. Like when I'm driving, is my car visible on the road?

Is she getting cut off by people and she feels like she's invisible? I don't know. So I just left it unanswered because I was like, I don't know what you're talking about. And she goes, Yes or no. And I said, I don't understand the question. And she said, Is my car invisible on the road when I'm driving? Because I don't think people can see my. car. That's what I said, yeah. She's got people cutting her off.

I've been pulled out in front like twice this morning, and then a guy in the roundabout sped through, making me slam on my brakes. I remember that she said, on the road, is my car visible?

Yes, it is.

I remember when she first started driving earlier this year, and she would ride with us as we were driving, and she was like, You guys have so much road rage. And now she's

driving.

And I go, welcome to it, kid.

Yeah, there's a lot of terrible drivers. And we get to share the road with them multiple times a day.

It's so funny.

Yeah. She

said yesterday she was in the roundabout, and the guy had a trailer. Like, what are you doing?

You can take a trailer through the roundabout. I've done it. It's nothing wrong with that.

She's so funny. And then she said a gif of a guy driving an invisible car.

Uh-huh.

And she says, Is this what it looks like?

Is this me?

No, I can see. She's having a moment.

That's hilarious.
