1978. Off the back of touring the worldwide sensation "Rumours," Fleetwood Mac are back in Los Angeles to record a follow-up record: the notorious "Tusk." With a state-of-the-art studio and endless creative control, "Tusk" takes the rock-pop band into new, vulnerable places that leave listeners with questions and stories to uncover. Two Tusks unwraps this album track-by-track against unfinished takes from "The Alternate Tusk" with insights and stories from those recording sessions. Hosted by Bryce C and Jeff S. Produced by Bryce Castillo.
Lindsey Buckingham:
[0:00] We're here to show you that we just refuse to go away.
Stevie Nicks:
[0:03] Well, all of my songs are written about real people, either me or a friend.
Lindsey Buckingham:
[0:07] Dialogues to me, dialogues to her, dialogues to John.
Archive commentator:
[0:11] If you weren't getting pleasure where you were, it was okay to search it out.
Archive commentator:
[0:14] They just put it right out front.
Stevie Nicks:
[0:16] We were really talking about relationships that weren't working out. Love wasn't working out. Christine divorced John and I left Lindsey. So we went into Rumours, all of us, on the rocks.
Christine McVie:
[0:26] There's always a certain amount of romance on our records.
Archive interviewer:
[0:28] It's one of the most famous rock albums in history. Lots of top ten hits.
Lindsey Buckingham:
[0:33] Much of the appeal of Rumours went beyond the music itself.
Stevie Nicks:
[0:37] Fleetwood Mac would not go on without Chris and me.
Christine McVie:
[0:40] I think in that way, I guess we were the innovators of that kind of thing.
Stevie Nicks:
[0:44] No matter what it takes, we're going to keep Fleetwood Mac together. And our breaking up is not going to break up this band.
Lindsey Buckingham:
[0:49] I was not the one doing the leaving. She left me. But, you know, it's a damn shame.
Christine McVie:
[0:54] We always seem to kind of agree, basically, on musical things.
Stevie Nicks:
[0:57] "Shacking up is all you want to do," which was not true. And I would just be going, you know, don't look at me when you say that.
Mick Fleetwood:
[1:03] The main point of enjoyment to me, emotionally, is really playing on stage.
Lindsey Buckingham:
[1:08] Making music, that's the main way that I can express myself.
John McVie:
[1:12] Beng on stage would probably make me feel better, you know. But see, I don't write.
Stevie Nicks:
[1:16] To me, the music is writing songs.
Christine McVie:
[1:19] When you come together with four tried and trusted other musicians.
Archive interviewer:
[1:23] A kind of soft rock novel.
Lindsey Buckingham:
[1:26] A soap opera, perhaps.
Archive interviewer:
[1:28] Well, I was trying to raise it a little bit.
