Mystery Maniacs

Maniacs, we've got a little update on how the show's going to look for the next little while.

We've always done our best to keep things regular around here, but life has handed us a few competing things we can't quite predict right now. So rather than leave you hanging between Mondays, we're switching it up: two episodes a week instead of one big one.

Monday — Mystery Maniacs Clues & Reviews
A weekly check-in on what we're watching, what's just been announced, and whatever else we've got thoughts about.

Wednesday — Mystery Maniacs Cold Cases
A binge drop of a full season of Midsomer, right from the very beginning, with our thoughts stitched in at the top. Settle in and enjoy.

This way we get to keep showing up for you every week while things settle down on our end. Same show, same nonsense, just a slightly different shape for a bit.

All this starts this week with a short podcast explaining everything and the first Cold Cases on Wednesday.

Thanks, as always, for listening. You lot are the best.

Love

Mark & Sarah

What is Mystery Maniacs?

Mystery Maniacs Podcast is a comedy recap podcast dedicated to British Mystery Television. Formerly, Midsomer Maniacs podcast.

Sarah:

Hey, maniacs.

Mark:

Hey, Mystery Maniacs. Wow. Tibet was amazing.

Sarah:

I really liked riding that elephant.

Mark:

The Arctic was also very cool.

Sarah:

Wait a minute. Maybe we're in hiding. Oh. And we shouldn't be

Mark:

The talking about where we've Antarctic was really cool.

Sarah:

Yes. And I'm not Sarah. No. I'm

Mark:

Sarah. Sarah.

Sarah:

We've been away.

Mark:

Oh my gosh.

Sarah:

Life comes at you fast.

Mark:

Lightspeed. First of all, everyone is a okay. Yes. I'm fine. Sarah is fine.

Mark:

Sarah's father is fine.

Sarah:

Yeah. He's actually recovering well now.

Mark:

Yes.

Sarah:

It's all good. Just a little crazy. That's all.

Mark:

Cray cray in the cray cray.

Sarah:

And I I don't think I even told you. I got a message on Instagram from a listener that asked if we'd been banned. Oh. I don't I'm not

Mark:

even sure what that means. I've got a couple are are you guys okay?

Sarah:

Are you guys okay? Yeah. I was like, banned? Wait a minute. Did we do something ban worthy?

Sarah:

Where? On this YouTube?

Mark:

Something banned.

Sarah:

On Spotify? What what? No. I missed that episode.

Mark:

No. We don't

Sarah:

get banned. No. Anyhow, the craziness is not over. No. I would best way I can describe it is unpredictable competing responsibilities in the near future.

Mark:

Wow. You work in business school. I do. How's that for lingo?

Sarah:

The the short version is

Mark:

We synergize The short outside of the box. Yes.

Sarah:

Yes. The short version is we're worried that we will not be able to record on a regular basis in the near future. And so rather than being unpredictable and not putting out episodes when we'd like to, we're going to change things up a little bit for a short period of time.

Mark:

Because we have always been predictable. We've always said when we came back, when we've come back when we said we were gonna come back. And I think that builds trust with you guys, and we wanna maintain that trust.

Sarah:

It's something I like in podcasts that I listen to. Yes. If they're gonna take a break, I wanna know how long they're gonna take a break for and when they're gonna be back. Yes. Unfortunately, we are in a position where we can't quite say when that is going to be.

Sarah:

Yes. So rather than leaving you hanging

Mark:

But we're not We've come up disappearing.

Sarah:

No. No. No. No. Mystery Maniacs is not done.

Mark:

In fact, Sarah and Mark have come up with the most Sarah and Mark solution to this problem. We cannot make regular podcasts, so we're now going to make more podcasts. Yes. We're actually gonna get more

Sarah:

than when we're recording regular episodes. Yes.

Mark:

You will get two episodes a week.

Sarah:

Yes. How that works, I'm still not quite wrapping my brain around, but that's what we're gonna do.

Mark:

Oh, we're completely insane.

Sarah:

We're gonna put out two podcasts a week. Yes. And they're gonna be in slightly new formats. Yes. One is gonna be called clues and reviews.

Mark:

And that's coming out Mondays at 9AM like normal. It's Mystery Maniacs clues and reviews.

Sarah:

Yep. It'll be in our regular feed. You don't have to look for it.

Mark:

You don't have to do anything different for it.

Sarah:

But it's gonna be a ten or fifteen minute or so weekly podcast that's gonna talk about things we've been watching or listening to, things you've told us to listen to or watch. We're gonna talk about, like, some news around mystery shows and stuff.

Mark:

Or books or things that we've been listening to and anything else that's going on on a regular basis in our lives like the first ten, fifteen minutes of our show regularly.

Sarah:

Exactly. And then we'll spend, you know, five or ten minutes or so hashing out some update or new thing or question that we asked on the social media channels that you responded to. And that will come out every Monday.

Mark:

Yes.

Sarah:

The second thing that we're gonna do is called Mystery Maniac Cold Cases.

Mark:

So we're stealing this from video game streamers. So video game streamers do this all the time. When they do, like, say, a game and they make five or six episodes about that game, they end up putting it together in what they call a supercut, which is all of those episodes in one file.

Sarah:

It's basically a binge. Yes. I think our listeners are more familiar with binging.

Mark:

And we have such a huge Binging TV shows. Huge back catalog.

Sarah:

Yes. That we thought it might be fun to go way, way, way back

Mark:

Yes.

Sarah:

And release all of our episode, our podcast episodes about one season of Midsummer.

Mark:

So it's the return of Midsummer Maniacs.

Sarah:

As one big episode that you can listen to all at once if you want. Yes. So it'll be like seven hours or something of craziness.

Mark:

It's gonna be a long file.

Sarah:

And we'll put those out, and we'll also tack a little bit of new stuff to the beginning to kind of remind you of some of the fun stuff that's in those episodes before you listen.

Mark:

We'll give you a value add on those listens as well as on all the social medias every week. I'll be asking for your favorite parts of our podcast in those seasons.

Sarah:

So we'll still have time for conversation as we all flash back to what? Seven years ago? Yes. Six years ago.

Mark:

Six years ago. I'll also be adding your comment.

Sarah:

No. It's more than six because we started before the pandemic.

Mark:

Seven years ago. Woah. Jeez. I'll also be adding all your comments from the social medias because I'm gonna ask you for them. Yes.

Mark:

So when you who have a favorite moment from season three, make sure you tell us and then we'll talk about it at the preamble.

Sarah:

And it could be from Midsummer season three, for example, or our podcasts covering an episode of season three. Yes. Either way.

Mark:

All of those good things.

Sarah:

It's all good to us. So that's what we're gonna be doing. So look out for Mystery Maniacs clues and reviews and Mystery Maniacs cold case episodes coming your way starting next week. Yes. Bye, Maniacs.
