Help Help We're Being Repressed! is presented by Canon Press.
What did you like about the film? Why is it a passing grade instead of a failing grade? The reason it's a passing grade instead of a failing grade. It's a bit of a wholesome boy-wish fulfillment. But kind of a weak wholesome boy-wish fulfillment? You're being negative. Stop being negative. I actually like shush! Part of what makes this more positive. Even when I have things I dislike about it, it doesn't have these poisons that you find in all sorts of other movies coming out right now. Have a seat of violence, the hurting system! Help, help, I'm being repressed, bloody person! Oh, what a giveaway! You and I, the form on the back! Do you see it repressing me? You saw it didn't you? Welcome back to Help Help, we're being repressed. Hazar. Hazar. Today. I think this is the last time. We're going to be reviewing a new movie. Yay! And completely unprecedented. Amira and I basically disagree about it. Basically. We both watched it 2,000 miles apart and she kind of liked it and I kind of didn't like it. We both had very very strong feelings about this movie. So the movie is so low me-o. And I think the most important part of a movie review should be, should you watch it? What do you say Lucy? I should the audience watch this movie. Yeah, before we jump into all of the deeds, my answer is if you want, I guess. Sure. It was, that was not, that was not a raving review. Yeah, it wasn't like Tronaries. We always say here and be like, blah! Never watch it. A word vomit into the microphone. It's not like some of the toxic romcoms that we have been like, it's poison, don't feed it to you. Like, this is just like, eh. Actually, I just got letterbox, which is like good reads for movies. I don't know if I'm going to actually keep it up, but believe when I started reviewing this one, I just wrote, eh. I gave it two and a half stars out of five. So like a 50%. Well, I would do it like, maybe like- I know stars don't feel like percentages to me. Yeah, no, they don't. Stars aren't percentages. All these different things. You just go by five. If I was giving a percentage, I'd give it a 70%. It's like just above a failing grade. Barely. I feel like I at least would give it a C+. Mitting into like the low B minus, you know. Okay, mirror gives it B minus. I give it a C minus. I get two and a half stars. How many stars do you give it? At 2.75. Like 2.75 above half. A half way, but like three stars feels like. I mean, maybe we're in such incredible disagreement. I know the violence. Anyhow, so yeah, our overall wreck. So your kick us off is if you want to watch it. Honestly, if you're looking for like, I mean, some theaters. If you want to do like a fun theater night, like there's not a lot. If you want to do a harmless theater night, and I've already watched goat. Here's like, I haven't seen goat. I haven't either. I'm just I'll probably be the next one I watch. Yeah, but it's like, I mean, I didn't like hate the experience. I enjoyed it. It was chill. It wasn't like. It was a night out. If you want to night out. Seems like a gentle night out type movie. Yeah, so let's get into the actual movie. So premise of the movie is Kevin James icon. He is fantastic films. Yeah, he is an art teacher who just got engaged. He's doing a destination wedding in Rome as one does. One has money. I would not do that. I don't know where he got the money from because they seemed kind of poor. He seemed pretty broke. Any who is doing it. Yeah, he's doing a wedding in Rome and gets left at the altar. Gurley pop chickens out writes a note and just skid addels. Bales leave some standing there. Yep. Very much literally he basically has the honeymoon package that he's just that he can't get a refund on. And he's just like, okay, fine. I'll go on it by myself with all of the other couples because it's like a group honeymoon package. So sign up for a group honeymoon package. People definitely would. You are not one of them. I am not one of them. I assume they're humans out there. A honeymoon with other honeymooners. Right group. Like I feel like honeymooners must be the worst to be around. You can never have a honeymoon. You're a fun group at all. So he's on the honeymoon alone. And it's a bit of a second chance romance with the girl he meets in Italy. Yeah. Spoiler alert. Yeah, falling in love. You know, yeah, I'm really just all good things. Spoiler alert for everything we're about to say, I guess. But it'll be fine. So since you did not like the movie. I'm going to make this hard for you. What did you like about the film? How did it get two stars from you to an ad reason the reason I have stars. Why is it a passing grade instead of a failing grade? The reason it's a passing grade instead of a failing grade. Is because though this is going to be a diss too. No, you're positive only positive. Maybe a ray of sunshine. Shut up. It's a bit of a wholesome boy wish fulfillment. Okay. But kind of a weak wholesome boy wish fulfillment. You're being negative. Stop being negative. I do what you like. You can't tell me what to do. And I'm getting there. I'm 2000 miles away. But part of what makes this. Part of what makes this. More positive. Is the fact that it's like there are so many toxic wish fulfillment out there. It's like when you have a toxic guy wish fulfillment. That's no bueno. When you have a toxic girl wish fulfillment. This is no bueno. And there's these wish fulfillment that are much like. Less poisonous less problematic. I do. I do think that wish fulfillment is not necessarily in and of itself a bad genre. Yeah. There's a genre in some ways. Not my favorite genre, but it is like. Just put a character in a position that you would like to be in. Watch it play out. Like that's why it appeals to the audience. But you still want it to be real. So there's there's a well done wish fulfillment where it's convincing. But you would wish that you were the main character. And then there's a poorly done. In words, not which not convincing. But this one is just like. It gets docked less because it's relatively harmless. So it's PG. It's sweet. He's a sweet soft boy. Yeah. And like the romance. While it's extremely unconvincing is pretty non problematic. And so there's there's that element where I'm like it just doesn't it doesn't have a lot of. It doesn't have a lot of the other ditches going on. Yeah. The girl who turns us actually a good girl. Yeah. Like we actually we really like the girl. Two positive. She's positive, pretty energetic, all the things. Hard work or wanted kids. Yeah. Like there's a lot of whole smell. It's like they both want kids. They both are wholesome people. So it's got that kind of like harmlessness to it. And even when I have things I dislike about it, it doesn't have these poisons that you find in all sorts of other movies coming out right now. So it's like I went to that theater and I went to solo me oh not with the ring. Yeah. See it's a good ask us to review weathering heights. I'm not sure I'm up to watching the film. Period. Anywho. Not the point. I'm just saying it's. I'm not saying that it's not like. Like their relationship is very PG so that's that's nice. So it's not like it falls in the depths of failing because of that. But the other thing. That I liked positively is a lot of the side characters were very funny. Yeah. The calm part of the rom com was carried by the side characters. I wish that it was more rom com overall because therente actually had calm were the best parts of the film. Totally agree. So the honeymoon package. It was a big group but for some reason by the end we only had six people. So we forgot about all the other extras. Well I think they were in like some of the vehicles they just kind of like ditched. Yeah but there are two other couples that he ended up hanging out with. One was no desire for some. One was Jonathan Rumi and he was the highlight of the movie for me. He was a physical therapist who wants to be a feelings therapist. He was funny. And his brand new bride was his actual therapist. So this was so problematic. It's very funny. And he did a really good job of giving a lot of character to someone with no screen time. Like neither of them had enough free time to be as calm as they were. And then the other couple was this really toxic, thrice married twice divorced couple. To be fair they kept marrying each other. So it's like at least only problematic with each other. Yeah. Could be worse. Technically never. But adultery. So got that down. But they were just chaotic and just an absolute counterpoint to the therapist couple. Because the therapist couple is all like politically correct. I need you to respect me. I'm not feeling respected right now. And then the other couple is just like chaos junkies. See this is what what I enjoyed most about the film like I said was the comportion. Mostly it was the relationship between the two guys. And our main lead who say my don't remember Matt Matt Taylor Matt. Okay Matt right because it wasn't they didn't have enough of it. I thought yeah it was too little it was majority from. But even like I enjoyed the beginning of the film. I thought the setup I liked. So I like him being left at the altar him having to do the honeymoon package alone. Might be a little like. I mean it's not like wildly creative but it's funny. So you have like him on the bike where it's like supposed to be a two-seater. And he's biking alone. Yeah. And then visually comedic. Visually comedic. Yes. And then there's the other like dudes noticing him. And deciding to like help out. They're like we're going to. Yeah. Bros. So I wanted way more of that. Bro. Yeah. Between the two married guys and the one abandoned guys. Also just the heightened contrast between those two characters the two bros. Because there's the therapist dude who's like yeah you need to you need to process. You need to get you need to get over this. But they were also nosy too. But they just wanted to know everything because the the chaos junkie guy who looked a bit like a pirate. So the pirate. I don't know what actor Julian Julian. Julian. Thank you. Just funny. Julian. Julian. Was just being crazy nosy and would introduce him to the rest of the party is he got stood up and left at the altar but don't bring it up. And the therapist guy is like I think that I would be really good to talk through it. Like I would like to hear all of it. It's like we could unpack this and work through it. So they're done. They're done. I like because he's like he has the whole honeymoon sweet thing. But he's actually by the other two guys's room and they all have these outside. So I'd like to the scene where he was standing out in the balcony being sad. One of the other guys comes out. It's like Julian. Hey you're over there. And then the second guy comes out and is like hey. And they all just decided to go crash. It was Julian popped out. He was like oh my brother like I'm coming over and he popped out and as soon as he moves you see Jonathan Rumi one balcony over. And he's like I'm coming over to. So I actually thought that when the film was trying to be funny it was funny. Yeah. I mean maybe it was where it was trying to be dramatic. Well we'll get to the negative. But yeah I was like so I thought the positively calm part of the rom. Good. The setup even if you can't argue is like too much of a wish fulfillment in some ways which we will get to. We'll get there. I liked the setup. I liked the idea. I thought it was. I thought the calm was strong. So the calm was strong enough of it which there wasn't. So our my positives is strong calm. Where it was. And. A lack of poison. Yeah. At least at least bad poisons but you add on my my positives you have to tack on before we hit the negatives. Yeah. So I comedy the calm. I like that. I actually. I liked her more than him but I. I both of them both of them the main characters were likeable. Mm hmm especially the girl I thought the girl was great. She was fun. She was I thought she was a good example of a fun woman. Like I also kind of like that.uger. Hisako is like akeysre Beispiel. He's like to be like that. Whatever. Winter and I like adventures. I love Whatever. It's a character that I see. So main characters, the calm setup, try and think what else I liked. I just, I like the dynamic of some of the side characters. Yeah, okay. You got anything positive to add on yet? Oh, I actually kind of like, I think this was part of the calm. I kind of liked the Ed Sheeran references. I thought, I thought those were kind of funny. Yeah, but I think it's probably because it was really only cameos. Sure. However, it was one of the only things. This is getting into the negatives that they did. That was like a part of the main characters character. But I thought actually that was like one of the strongest, like, because having him be like an Ed Sheeran lover was kind of, okay. So we just provided why I graced it with two and a half stars. Now let's talk about why it didn't have the other two and a half. What caught the other two out? Yeah, okay. Cut the other two off. To start with, we already mentioned Wish fulfillment. But let me paint the picture a little better. We have Matt Taylor. He's a sad boy. He's a sad boy. He's also an old boy. So he's in his 50s. He's a little dumpy. Like, he's style James. Well, he's Kevin James, but he's Kevin James styled to be dumpy. Yeah, he's he's bald and he's got like his frowny mustache. And he's like not dressed very well. And he's just kind of like dumpy and awkward, plain, older, broke, insecure, sad. So like we're getting a lot of you. I think you get a little insecure. Yeah, I know. But when you're left at the altar, but yes, no, but he's he's got more insecurity than the left at the altar. Sure. So he's a very like, even if you can like him, he's pretty weak. Yeah, just generally a weak man. He's a sort of person that if you see him at the beginning of the movie, you're hoping he'll be strong by the end. I think. Just never finish. Okay, go. I'm going to say so you've got that character. And I'm like, might be like the whole mind of like. He's not super developed. So what you got was just this kind of shallow. Dumpy sadness. But you've got that. So he's sad. He's alone. He's abandoned. He's awkward. He's not very attractive. And a beautiful. A beautiful charming, energetic sunshine. Italian woman. For rose herself at him. And through the entire movie, she initiates basically everything. Yeah. So up until the very last. Scenes. Where he picks her up. He did the act of picking her up from the cafe. I. Up until there. She initiates every single interaction, banter, handholding, shoulder leaning, kissing. Everything. And I'm just sitting here being like. Um, no. So. This is a sort of thing. No, like as like. She wouldn't be into him or hum know you don't approve. Or both. It can be both. I was. The thing is. I'm totally fine with the kind of like funny. Dumpy guy getting the hot chick. Because you can be carried by a personality. And you can have a guy who's a little silly. Really sweep a girl off her feet. But this isn't how it happens. Yeah. You don't like this. This is where it's the wish fulfillment for the weak wholesome guy. It's like there's a wholesome guy who he wants to have a family. But he's not the kind of person to actually be able to chase down something that he wants. So he imagines what if. The girl did the ideal girl. Just drops in your lap. Just. Initially. The ideal girl. Just drops in your lap. Just. Initiated all of it. What if she cares. So here's the in mild defense of the movie. Okay. I was here the mile ready for my mild defense. I don't think like the beginning of their relationship was a problem. Oh no. I did it. It's the fact that it continued. Sure. All right. Yeah. But I'm like also the fact that she was initiating coming up to him. She was the energetic, the happy one. And she was also a sad guy and was trying to be like. Get him back on the street. I don't I don't think she was initiating a relationship at that point. So I did not have a problem with the beginning. I do agree that the. I'm the continuation of her always being the one initiating. I think. I think the movie meant for the development to kind of be him. Like getting stronger. Yeah. I do think I do think that was supposed to be the case because if you were to be the one to hurt like telling him his problem where she's like, oh, you're not brave. You're not. I don't like that at all. Sure. I hated that. Yeah. No, I'm with you there. Well, the way she said it was stupid. However, what I felt like they were trying to do was it's like. He's letting life happen to him. He's like letting things like he's rolling over. You know, he's being weak. And so I think the development needed to be him getting stronger. Him initiating him doing this. Things which they kind of attempted to do with having him like sing at the end. I think they failed. I don't think they meant it to be like she initiates the whole time. And that's a good thing. But that brings me to my second problem. Yeah, but it's just I do think they meant to have that be changed. I agree. I just don't think they actually nailed the development. Yeah. But I'm just saying that brings me to my second problem is the whole thing to me felt like a first draft. Yeah. So I'm like the wishful and element of like what if I was just the sad good boy and the girl made it happen. Yeah. One of the girls I watched it with was said like Kevin James was the baby girl of the movie. A little pink bow, you know. Yeah. And I'm like a little bit. Yeah. But so that's a wishful and element. But like you said, I do think they had a plan for a different thing. But the whole thing felt like a first draft like that script. That was not a finished script. And part of the way that you can tell that it wasn't a finished script was the fact that you could tell they were having new ideas as it went on. Yes. That needs to not like fulfill at all. When you're working through a story or writing a story, you are undoubtedly going to have new ideas as you go on. But then you have to decide what ideas you're sticking with and you have to go back and you have to build it into the beginning of the story. You have to pick which ones you're rolling, which would mean cutting some and you need to like make this coherence. And so this is very realistic to a first draft. But it's not supposed to look like that at the end. So an example for this is in the first half of the movie, we're building something. Like we're planting seeds. We're dropping little things that you expect to return. Like what? So I'm about to say. But I ask questions. One thing is the fact that he got left at the altar. That's that's the start. Tell me why we didn't have an alter scene at the end. Because it's like the very the very kickoff of this. The very kickoff was that he invested in this girl, which he later admitted was like a bit of a desperation because he was scared of getting old of losing his chance to have a family like that sort of thing. And then he just gets abandoned and all blows up. Oh, they do get married at the end of the you get a reception scene. Yeah, it should have been an alter scene. It should have been an alter scene. But you know why it was a reception scene instead of an alter scene? I forgot. No, because half way through the movie, they decided that, oh, no, what if what if he was scared to dance in public? And we're going to tie that into his insecurity. For the way I totally forgot about the dancing part. Yeah, no, I'm just saying the dance the altar is playing halfway. Yes, about halfway through the movie. They were like, oh, he's actually insecure to dance in public. And so that's part of his insecurity. So at the end, they do a reception scene of him dancing with her. She doesn't work because he was imagining himself dancing with his girl at the beginning. But there are other things like that. And I'll give more examples. But the pattern of in the beginning, we're building one thing halfway through. We have a new idea. And then the last part of the movie only works with calls back to parallel things after the second half of the movie. Yeah, so I'm like, no, that's not how nope. That's not how we do it. We pick one. But that way there were too many themes. So the thing that you mentioned her talk with him, that was the exact same thing. Because in the first half of the movie, he, we disapprove, gets drunk after getting left. Yeah, there was a lot of drunkenness in the movie too. Yeah, we don't like that. So that wasn't as important as everything else, but you know, but that was actually was another sign of rather than being toxic. It's weak. Yeah, it's like he's been weak. So he gets drunk and there's this drunk Italian chick, Claudio, who's with him. And he's been all mopey of like, I got left. La, la, la, la, la. We feel so bad. And she is, she's like, where are you in a very drunk Italian self? And he's like, here, and she's like, no, where are you? And she, or why are you here? I can't remember what it was, but she pulled him up. It was a locational based question. She pulls him up to his feet and gestures to like the night scape of Rome. Yeah, she is like, you're here. Don't let your heart cloud your eyes from the things around you. I actually think I've heard that to the, I know, but that was so clearly theme statement. Yeah, to me, at least, where this is, it's a classic beat. Where it's coming from someone unexpected, but she's challenging. Like running inside character. Yeah, she's challenging something into him and posing a question to him. And supposed to like set the scene. And so I was like, ah, theme. This is where we're going. Yeah, so he's going to like learn to enjoy life. He's going to, I figured, yes, kind of alone. First, he was going to, like, I figured he was, he's going to have to open himself to the space around him. Because his whole time, he's not been paying attention to how beautiful a place he's in. He's not been paying attention to the people around him who's trying to help him. He's not paying attention to any of this. He's just being in on himself and so. Yeah, it should be a look out. It would be the thing. Yeah, like, stop. Get out of your head. Get out of yourself. And I would still have the second chance romance, but it would have been. A little slower and later. Yeah. And it would have been a result of him already having gotten over this. You could, it might have fixed part of the problem for being the initiator if you had. If he had become like, started, yeah, started like focusing on other things and not. Well, if he started really relishing this chance and this place, he's in because the way that he didn't like. Enjoy much of this except when she was taking him on a date. Yeah. So I'm like, I thought that was theme statement. I thought that was the direction we were going. I thought he was going to be more fun and start carrying more about halfway through the movie. And I don't know the exact in the second half of the movie leading up. But one of our, we have a new theme statement. One of those like be brave or whatever. Yeah, take chance that he is the conversation with his chikki D. Babe, yeah. He has a conversation with her and she said she throws it and I was like, oh, dear, the moment she threw out an Italian phrase that I can't say, because I was like, it's a new theme statement. that's such a thing to be like this phrase you don't understand and I have to under I have to unpack it for you. And then you're gonna repeat it dramatically later. It totally like gives you an excuse for exposition like two and a different like yeah. Oh now I have to like it's take chances take risks go for it grab what you want like and it's I'm like darn this is so much labor because I don't want a guy like I don't I don't want the plot of he needs to learn bravery like this weird particular like take chances thing because no I actually know for that size yourself it's so much better it's way better because it also is like so it's addressing the insecurity in a better way I think and it's also a much better message to audiences generally yeah because the bravery it's like and the take chances I'm so it's not like I'm anti like taking chances yeah but there was a dumb example like sure yeah she was getting on him for not singing in this club and I'm like if it rather random Americans started singing in the club in Italy that should be obnoxious yeah um but she's getting on him for like why didn't you do this why don't you show me your paintings and that I'm gonna address that later because the team pin in that but but the first one it's like okay so insecurity the best way to address it it's not about you it's stop thinking about you mm-hmm so it's a look so it's not here's the thing look outside of yourself yes fixing yourself great we approve like if you actually have problems you should fix them like if you're insecure about the right things but I think the better first step is to think about others and be about and more just feeling sorry for himself yes which is not the same thing yeah so it's like evidently and more just like that there was not pleasant it wasn't as realistic either yeah well it made him less likeable being like he's down in the dumps after being dumped you're like oh I'm sorry but he's feeling really sorry for himself and he has to look at life differently but then we did this weird pivot into it's like actually he's got weird minor insecurities yeah and that's what really needs to be addressed but that's just that's an example of we had clear theme statement and then we had a new idea halfway through and that was the repeating theme yeah it was for the second half of the movie script that needed like six more re-rates I don't know yeah about no but those are just those are two examples of that kind of yeah pivot and a similar thing with singing so first half of the movie you meet this guy he's an art teacher so he art teacher loves kids so his that means a two solid handholds we have on his character he loves art he's given his life to art he loves kids he's given his life to teaching kids and he wishes he had kids there's a two very like grippable things tell me why neither of those things mattered in the movie no not at all instead once again like further on into the movie he just randomly was like no I don't public dance and dancing became the thing oh and then the one time and singing he's like I don't want to sing in public and then singing became the thing and during like when he was trying to win her back over it's like I'm going to sing in public I'm like no like you're why didn't any of the things that were actually important to your character become things that were important to the story yeah especially like as an artist I was shocked by how little art mattered that was the main character was an artist because they're like why won't you paint for me you know heart being sad yeah that was when they were first trying to plant the insecurity thing as a thing was she was like could you show me your art and he was like I don't take pictures of my art and he won't show her her art which I'm like what do you mean you're an artist like you've you're an art teacher you've done art for a long time you don't have any pictures of your art and you're insecure about your art when you teach art for a living yeah and it just wasn't it was like you and I wanted or needed but it also so I'm just saying they had the little hat tips of like he's refusing a job and then in the credit scene they showed a bad painting he'd painted for her so here's but I'm like he are two main characters like you have an artist who loves kids and you have a caffeine owner who loves kids I both of them wish they were parents but like I'm like an artist is actually like a very distinct character and I'm like I'm confused by why neither of those things remotely mattered to the story the growth of the relationship yeah so is that we don't like it felt like a first draft there are too many different like themes and ideas they were having new ideas that they and then they were lots of things that they didn't properly flesh out yeah there's not a convincing one of the reasons I did not give this you know all the stars all the stars either um I was a bit like okay so often romance movies rom comps they move pretty fast right the timeline is almost never realistic so with that caveat however this was way too fast because I'm like okay it was way too fast for the amount of rom it was for the serious because it lacked a lot of calm and the calm can kind of take away from I guess how realistic you're trying to have it be but this guy just got left at the altar he was about to marry a woman days ago like literally less than a week and that was like slightly concerning in the movie they're like oh he has to tell her like he was about to get married you know that was supposed to be a little bit of like uh but he got over her so fast yeah I'm like I mean three days to fall like completely for another woman and he he was falling day one like little bit yeah yeah he was like interested in her day one even when he was still being a soul about life so I mean I don't know how long it takes to recover from being left at an altar longer I feel like the timeline on this one it felt rushed and it made him like less like I made it less sad less realistic well it just felt like a little what's funny is like the two things is one you're right that the calm can make the timeline feel better yeah because when things are goofy you're not going to interpret it as realistically yeah when you watch a drama and then it has just an over the moon unrealistic timeline you notice but when you're watching like a goofy satire it's goofy satire it's not supposed to be like meant to be goofy that's the way it works so there's a lot of romcoms really like that was fast but it's funny yeah so you don't but this one was it was way too serious to not notice especially since it was actually a lot deeper emotional connection than a lot of romcoms is what I was trying to do because first the past relationship which was a mere handful of days ago was marriage yeah so it's like that's serious no and they don't have a breakup she left yeah so that also what also we long gates how long it would take to get over it and he was like denying that she was gone for the first couple days several days while he's going on dates with the other chick but so I was like so that was just like it was way too serious the last one was way too serious but the other thing is what's funny in the PG-ness of it all was which we appreciate how PG it was but in a lot of romcoms when it's based in physical attraction it also makes a timeline make more sense sometimes because they're attracted to each other and the end is let's date right versus versus they got there it wasn't it was it was immediately a very emotional connection yeah it was a very emotional connection and within days were talking like actually really big picture issues and thinking of a life together yeah and so it was it was it was very unconvincing it does also make his like need for character development feel a little like more hollow because it's like okay so he's supposed to be recovering from the deep sadness of being trapped at the altar right like he just had this tragedy happen it's like okay so apparently he it wasn't that much of a tragedy you know yeah you got over it a little fast but I also on the chick side too I was like why are you crying days into a relationship you all haven't even had an official date yet yeah we're pre first day we're in the talking phase we are in the talking phase and you're crying over this guy and he's like I have to leave Italy and she's like don't leave I'm like we are way too soon for this yeah one of the other things that I did not like was um so this is this is a pro and gone right okay I'm very end of the film right he actually meets up with his ex who left him um I think Heather yeah Heather I think not necessarily the way they did it but I actually appreciate that they were having him not just be angry and blame her because he's supposed to be through his he took some accountability yes he's supposed to be through his character development at this point so I appreciate that yeah you know but it's the end of the movie he's supposed to have developed as a person he's not blaming her he's not being angry he's like okay so there was parts of it this were on me however I did not like and they do like kind of address it where she's like I shouldn't have done that she shouldn't have done like that yeah the movie did not put enough blame on her yeah to quote he said you did nothing wrong she actually didn't just take accountability he didn't just take accountability it really erased what she did which was straight up evil yeah so I'm like okay I appreciate the movie was very very for me that the movie is trying to have him handling it with maturity and he's not being angry or bitter and that's great however the film should have laid a little more blame at her door because that was unacceptable you know so actually a woman doing that is never okay yeah absolutely not not like that like the guy at the altar no way no like the the way you should have known wave before that point the way you knew like yeah that is like the rudest way to do it wild though as they had his new chick have helped her decide to bail at the altar okay I'd say like if you have doubts you shouldn't be getting married but I'm like no way she just supported a wedding ditch wild yeah so I didn't love that either but I also kind of similarly I'm just saying Heather decided not to go through the wedding the morning of the wedding and still got in the dress went to the wedding and then bailed that doesn't make any sense like what is wrong with you because she was writing the the good by letter that morning but if you reference that first scene she bailed like at the door yeah that was really so that it was just terrible um kind of similarly so I as I said we've mentioned I liked the side characters um they are fun however they also were not I mean they were so it was supposed to be humorous right but parts of their relationship and the way they were like oh but it's actually good because we never give up on one another there's no you're still toxic there's pros to that and cons to that there are things that were like okay so this behavior when the psychiatrist woman is being like controlling in the worst that's actually unacceptable and it's not funny you know well it's like kind of funny but it was funny but it was not recommended it was funny by having it as like one of the examples of a better relationship because they're just like I thought the all the really annoying female chicks were really female chicks all chicks are female all the girly pops they were really funny because of how like genuinely like real person annoying they were oh my gosh yes but you are right that at the end they kind of pivoted into like but our relationships that's like as an example of how flawed relationships can still be beautiful and I'm like maybe not that flawed and I was like no y'all need to y'all need to improve in the form of this like oh it's kind of funny because there's this I don't know it's like funny female flaws versus funny male flaws right and you come together and it's like oh we're so funny together we're both flawed human beings and there's a bit of that that I'm like sure however the extent of where you're like accepting like this just state a flaw you know is not not ideal we're trying to get less flawed it's like no actually the woman should accept that what she's doing is not correct and try to fix it and so just being like oh some of these problems are just what makes us human beautiful beautiful broken glass I would say a last negative thing see the beauty in the broken glass like kpop demon other says but uh to quote another excellent movie thanks everyone's actually pretty good so a last negative to why it's missing two and a half stars in my five star review 2.25 I'm being jealous look at you go is the fact that just I don't I didn't find the quality of the film to be very good in terms of the cuts there were too many like montage moments where it felt felt like skipping skipping pretend those chemistry yeah and there was some just there were awkward cuts there were weird moments there were just like it was just like the script there are ways in which it felt not ready for theaters it's a little bit unfinished and I think that's harsh we were quite done with that roll that like like we mentioned um part of the refreshing thing about it was that it's not like the other romcoms it's not dirty it's not toxic it's not you know I hasn't got all these problems and I think unfortunately that set the bar lower for quality mm where it's like okay you didn't do all this work they should have done yeah which would have made it a great film I think I think I actually has potential to be pretty fun yeah it could have been like I don't think it was ever going to be like you know what you know the six three rights yeah but like I think that could have been a much better film it could have been a lot funnier it could have been a lot funnier I mean I did enjoy it I would say if you want to watch it go for it the end all review is it's not going to hurt you to watch it yeah you might actually if you are if you happen to be a spineless wholesome boy who wants to affirm that a girl should that a beautiful girl should just throw herself at you maybe you shouldn't watch it you should go watch something like warrior yeah yeah but everybody else it's like it's gonna be it like it might be a fun watch it'll it could be a fun it could be a little fun thing it's fun it's enjoyable it's not super high quality but it ain't gonna hurt you no it's not gonna hurt your feelings Kevin James does have some better movies though yeah and on a throwing out his best movie I probably my favorite from Kevin James here the best the boom here comes the boom that one fantastic film love it it's a boxing no it's a wrestling yeah it's like it's wrestling um he's a t-shirt and that one too right yeah but he's like no he has no flaws okay yeah he does not have much like a character arc that one doesn't no he does have a character arc because he starts sucking here comes the boom is great because it starts with the really sucky teacher who he used to be a really good teacher who cared about everything but he's kind of just been checking out like he's gotten selfish he's gotten lazy it just doesn't feel worth it to him anymore he's very much lost sight of why he was doing it at all so he's become a bit of a punk he got to just rolls from day to day ditches night classes for people trying to get citizenship and I think a science class for kids until he finds out that the music program is being canceled and the music teacher is someone who does have a ton of passion does love the students does try his hardest is a great teacher and also has I think another baby on the way so cannot get fired he needs his job and so he decides to fight for money and try to make money for the music program so it starts like he's a bit of a punk and then he kind of gets back into caring about people doing it for the right reasons uh throws a baffle sauce at some point throws a baffle sauce well he eats like apple sauce that has been sitting on the dash of a car for way too long casting before a fight and the pukes on the guy it's fun maybe it's good I do recommend that one it's very I do recommend that one but that that is I think Kevin James is the best one yeah but then you have any other recommend me that's true neither of us have experienced mall cop um I don't know if I'm going to fix that state of being I think I'm pretty content but there's also hitch hitch I think I think that one might have like a little bit of filtering do a little gouglay if you're going to show your job um it's a parents guide is for the win yeah but Kevin James is starting in that one too yeah older ranged then um and that one does follow the pattern of him starting to secure and getting confident yeah but actually does that hmm so but I think we did filter that one but it is a funny movie you haven't seen it in a while but so less less strongly recommended remember vaguely enjoying but here comes the boom it's great so yeah so lo mio watch it if you want I guess cheers two and a half stars bye
