00;00;05;27 - 00;00;09;27
Speaker 1
She goes in front would help the younger.
00;00;09;29 - 00;00;11;09
Speaker 2
Of courage.
00;00;11;11 - 00;00;20;00
Speaker 1
Unbelievable. There's nothing but. Racer man. World championship title.
00;00;20;03 - 00;00;22;10
Speaker 3
Thank you. One.
00;00;22;12 - 00;00;48;12
Speaker 4
And welcome back to the unfunded podcast episode 50 something here with your 53. Well, we haven't released one, which I, I don't know. Oh, yeah. This is your job to have him written down. I think he'll be 53. Okay. Good guess. Here we are with the unfunded podcast episode 53. I'm your host, Lachlan Jones, professional triathlete here with my good friend Leighton Wall.
00;00;48;17 - 00;01;12;19
Speaker 4
Unfunded podcast, professional triathlete. Fuck, yeah. Yeah. And we have had a pretty quiet, actually. Yeah, yeah, not much is really going on. I'd love to. I'd love to say, you know, all the hype and this and that, but, well, the the short course worlds a little bit quiet. I mean, it's very quiet. We're missing some things we haven't got a guest on.
00;01;12;21 - 00;01;29;11
Speaker 4
We've been slacking on that department a little bit. We have a little bit, but we've got it. We've obviously got that one. Yeah, we've got an exciting one with the president. Hopefully that comes out before this. So you should have listened to it. Yeah. So that's actually a very good point going to this. No no no just in case.
00;01;29;12 - 00;01;48;10
Speaker 4
Oh okay. Just in case. So this is we're recording this 1st June 30th obviously a week before probably ten days before this will be released. Leighton Wall has to go home and see Mummy and daddy. So we've got to record this episode a week early. So this is a bit of a tizzy recap, which is also going to be a week later.
00;01;48;11 - 00;02;08;01
Speaker 4
Tizzy recap, Henneberg preview. Yeah, kind of thing. That's not much in between anyway. Yeah Leighton's a little bit homesick. No not really. Waiting is home to go back to Mummy and Daddy. Yeah I need go home. Go back to the retirement village. You know, ground myself, put my feet in the dirt instead of being like up here for these city slickers.
00;02;08;04 - 00;02;32;07
Speaker 4
City slickers, up acting like these pompous city slickers, acting like Paul McCartney is corrupt is like farm territory. Bloody country bumpkin over here. No it isn't. It's just a coastal town. You're all real estate moguls down there. Like, I don't know that you go to Port Macquarie to retire. Yeah, it's a one big retirement. Great spot in the world.
00;02;32;09 - 00;02;53;02
Speaker 4
My nan is literally there retiring right now. Yeah. Well, yeah, it's it's perfect for that. Good for you, I guess. I guess you guys have similar traits, so. Makes sense, old soul. Oh. Anyway, how you been? What's been going on? Give us a recap. Good. Same old, same old, same with the world. Just not really. Yeah, it's not really a lot.
00;02;53;03 - 00;03;13;25
Speaker 4
Just cruising through life. Yeah. Thought I'd change it up and go home to just, you know, do something different. Actually fighting a little bit of a, you know, like when you're, you sit kind of in a training block. Now I'm on the edge, Reggie. Sort of edging. Why would you tell me that? No, I'm not, like, stuck in a room with you for the next year sick.
00;03;14;01 - 00;03;36;23
Speaker 4
I've just I just feel a little bit in the back of my nose. Maybe that's why I sound a bit weird if you didn't notice. But, yeah, I can feel a cold coming on. Nah, I feel alright. But, like, you know, when you're kind of on edge, I feel as if when you stop doing a lot of things, like when you're less busy and you relax, your immune system goes, oh, I can relax too.
00;03;36;23 - 00;04;00;25
Speaker 4
And then it gets hit by something usually that you get that one completely uneducated. No, no, I honestly, every time the school term ends or like unique Sam's end, I always like it's like you kind of like build up the stress and then stress de loads. Stress is usually the thing that kicks it off though. So yeah, I know, but I'm not stressed in the slightest.
00;04;00;27 - 00;04;23;03
Speaker 4
There's. I've got nothing else to do. I have to train and do a podcast for the next two weeks. Absolutely no evidence to back that theory. But yeah, sure. Well, yeah, if that makes you feel better. Yeah, I reckon it is. Right. Maybe it's a skunk. Kids at school? Yeah. You definitely getting sick from them. Especially in the freezing cold Gold coast, 15 degree Gold Coast.
00;04;23;03 - 00;04;46;03
Speaker 4
Right now, everyone's everyone's layered up because it's so cold. Everyone's got their puffer jacket out, right? Yeah. Everyone has their north North face puffer jacket. Yeah. They're on sale at Harbor Town anyway. Lucky. What have you been up to? Returning to run. I think we said that last week. Return to run. But, yeah, just increasing that slowly, working away, getting a lot of FOMO.
00;04;46;04 - 00;05;05;22
Speaker 4
God, people love telling you that. They're in Europe, don't they? Haven't you seen every story? Not really. Oh, to be honest. Yeah. Every second story, I swear, I, I swear, I mean, besides the triathletes. Well, yeah, it's triathletes, but also like, I mean, it's it's European summer. All the all the people you followed you everyone's in the last year though.
00;05;05;23 - 00;05;24;16
Speaker 4
I see a lot of people. The Dolomites. Yeah. Dolomites. Cool. That's kind of the new cool thing. Yeah. It's shifted from the beachy holidays. The mountains of the Dolomites. Like it is cool, but I couldn't do that much. Where would one country in Europe, if you could go back, or only had to go back to one country in Europe, what would it be for?
00;05;24;16 - 00;05;42;16
Speaker 4
The France has got the most variety. Okay, it's probably France. Don't mean to be like, you know, kissing France's, but because I feel like we do that a lot with their athletes and had a good they are. But I feel like France has got the variety you can go to, like the French Alps. You've got the you've got nice, you've got some beautiful beaches, you've got wine country.
00;05;42;20 - 00;06;03;04
Speaker 4
Just feel like you can do a lot in France. That is true. That's fair enough. Yeah, I'd say France. I'd go Italy, to be honest. Probably the same. Probably pretty similar. Very similar. Yeah. You can still go Italian Alps. Yeah, yeah, yeah I mean I, I'd love to I would love to do a bit more in Norway.
00;06;03;08 - 00;06;29;07
Speaker 4
Again, not trying to jump on Norwegian hype train, but I feel like that's a bit of a. Have you been to Norway? No, never. The Scandinavian. Yeah, that would be cool. Yeah, but maybe post triathlon don't want to get that Bergen World Cup back. That was really cool. That was brutal. Yeah, that was a brutal course. The I remember I remember wanting to race that I think it was back in like 2022 when it was first on, and then I wasn't very good at like my big weakness at the time was cornering.
00;06;29;08 - 00;06;51;24
Speaker 4
Yeah. Like I was technically like horrible. And I had to work on it for like three years to get to the point where I am now, where I'm basically like, taper. Gotcha. Now. But, but I remember looking at that course thinking, no, I can't, can't go. They have this like, they have this like downhill, kind of like there's like three switchbacks on, like a road that's the size of a footpath.
00;06;51;24 - 00;07;12;26
Speaker 4
And I'm like, I can already see myself getting dropped from four packs in this race. Like, absolutely not. I could maybe come out in the front like I was a good swimmer so I can come out, you know, top 5 to 10, hopefully be in the front pack and then I'll be 50th getting off the field. Yeah. So you boys at the end because I'm not going down here I don't think will ever come back though because those Norwegian boys aren't racing short course anymore.
00;07;12;26 - 00;07;29;28
Speaker 4
So exactly. It's not really iconic. No. And we have just completely got so sidetracked. We were talking about traveling in our lives. No, no, no, we were talking about our lives. And now we're all of a sudden on to racing. So let's get loser triathletes, mate. Yeah. It can't be normal for more than two seconds. Exactly. Let's get back on track here.
00;07;29;28 - 00;07;48;01
Speaker 4
And once been going on around the world, the big hype around the world right now, the Versace bike, which isn't the. Okay, so we were talking about what we were having the conversation, what to talk about today. And Leighton goes, oh, did you hear about like the the bike that's been in the fashion in the modeling shows and like, oh yeah, yeah, we'll talk about that.
00;07;48;01 - 00;08;07;07
Speaker 4
I get to the ranch. He spelt it so wrong first he's he's basically spelt Vasco like but with an eye on the end. So Versace bike hype one, it was Louis Vuitton. It was a Louis Vuitton runway show. You saw the Pro News guys. That was pretty funny, but like cropping people's faces onto it. That was pretty funny.
00;08;07;07 - 00;08;24;00
Speaker 4
But, Leighton was saying he was pretty upset that he didn't get the call up. Yeah, I was actually for that, I would have been quite good in that. I'm going to be honest, for Williams, not for a Williams. Was it you just making up names now? No, it was for real someone. Yeah. You know the singer. Look, I'll be completely honest.
00;08;24;03 - 00;08;41;25
Speaker 4
I think you're close to a foot of how tall you need to be. What are you, five. Five. Nine? Yeah, five. Nine. Something like that. I think so, yeah. Bang on pretty average. Okay, I'm gonna be honest. That was a joke. I actually thought I was downplaying you there, but the fact you are five, nine. Crazy. Five, nine.
00;08;41;25 - 00;09;04;07
Speaker 4
And you might need to turn a little bit more. Yeah, yeah, I'm a bit bit pasty at the moment. Yeah, surely. Like we need motors of all shapes and sizes. The CD mo as well. Probably not doing that was a surfer dude that and he didn't look much like a surfer. And there was also a dude carrying a bike who didn't look like a run t little bike rider.
00;09;04;08 - 00;09;22;11
Speaker 4
Where? Why do we need the buff dudes? Yeah, we're at the age now where we're at the point, I think, in the world and civilization where you can look, anybody in the world can be a model. Yeah. Anybody in the world. Because you have to be positive and inclusive and anybody can be a model. So you know what?
00;09;22;13 - 00;09;38;18
Speaker 4
You probably could you ride a bike. So I ride a bike, I would have you would know it up. You would know how to carry it. I know how to carry it better than him. I wouldn't have carried it, to be fair. I mean, it was a pretty cool bike. It was fierce. Imagine having one. Not UCI legal whatsoever.
00;09;38;19 - 00;09;56;16
Speaker 4
Yeah. What's that? The tri spokes on it. Like it was purely there for show. Yeah, obviously I'd love to see the paint job that I had on there that probably that's probably a couple kilos. There wouldn't have been a fast one. Oh the setup. Did you see the setup though. Yeah, but they did the job and this is going to be pretty nerdy.
00;09;56;18 - 00;10;15;18
Speaker 4
It had like duress. It had an oversize pulley wheel with like the aero pulley will cover. It had everything that you could have tri spokes front and back. It's crazy that it was for a runway show like this, this Louis Vuitton runway show. And you're like, do you see the pulley wheels on that thing? And the oversize.
00;10;15;21 - 00;10;46;13
Speaker 4
No, but they thought about these crankset on that 170 mill cranks. The guys like, you're not even looking at the tiny outfit. You're like, oh, look at those try spokes. Yeah, yeah, those Princeton carbon works. Try smokes. Yeah, yeah yeah. That was a spectacle in itself. Another thing on I guess bikes. And I don't think we really had this on on the run sheet, but, I don't think Louis Vuitton is going to be bringing out their own, you know, brand of bikes anytime soon.
00;10;46;13 - 00;11;06;04
Speaker 4
It's cool as that would be. I don't think that's really that area of expertise. However, Pro News did do a bit of a post the other day about China bikes. Yeah, making its way into the scene. They're massive. And you've seen a fair few pros actually signing with them now. Kurt McDonald in Australian pro he raced in a fair bit of T100.
00;11;06;06 - 00;11;31;29
Speaker 4
Yeah Taylor Swift they're all racing on the quick pros. Yeah. And they actually look like very good bikes. I don't I mean, look, I'm not I'm not a bike manufacturer, but everything, nearly everything that was built coming out of China, Taiwan, China. Like, surely there's going to be more and more of these things. And especially like we've seen I think it was Steph Curry just signed with like a obviously this is very different.
00;11;31;29 - 00;11;45;16
Speaker 4
But like he just signed with the Chinese shoe brand and like God knows how much money they threw it in for that. But if they've got the money they're going to start like you know it shrinks down. Even though we're a small sport we're not going to be getting Steph Curry kind of money. I guess it's like Kip run.
00;11;45;18 - 00;12;17;01
Speaker 4
Yeah. She's what's the brand in Europe? The it's like, sports power for us. I don't even know. Sports keep running. Oh, don't you like Rebel sport? Oh, yeah. I know what rebel sports. Yeah, but like Kip Run is a brand off. The Euro, like Rebel Sport equivalent. Oh, what's it called? Oh, shoot. My way. I don't know, but you know that that kind of industry in that we're not in this year, so we haven't been reminded.
00;12;17;03 - 00;12;36;29
Speaker 4
Yeah. Fuck. What is it anyway? That kind of like product that comes from maybe it's like a little known kind of not seem to be very good. It's not a big name brand. They're trickling in more and more in every kind of aspect. And it's the equipment's not bad. Like it's not that bad. It has to be good for people to use it.
00;12;36;29 - 00;12;55;21
Speaker 4
And sponsored athletes, yeah, they have to be like, well, it's good enough to me. Like, you can get a paycheck. Yeah, good. And I'm sure that would sway a fair few people. Yeah, but it also has to be good enough to perform. And I've always been under the and I understand that, you know, everybody talks about saving a what everyone.
00;12;55;21 - 00;13;14;20
Speaker 4
Was it like anything for a one. What like but when you're in short course triathlon it's not as important as long course is it. Because when you're riding in a pack, just just sit in the park, save your legs. Yeah. It's not going to change how aero your frame is. Yeah. Because you have you can have ten blokes in front of you blocking the wind.
00;13;14;21 - 00;13;35;06
Speaker 4
It's not going to matter. You can you can freewheel. Yeah. As long as you have. I do hate the fact that a lot of people go, oh, you could ride like a steel bike. You couldn't, you couldn't like do has to be a very good bike. Yeah. It doesn't have to be the Pinerolo bloody Louis Vuitton speck. Yeah, yeah yeah yeah.
00;13;35;09 - 00;13;53;25
Speaker 4
These, these when you got a Henry Graf just driving that front pack, you've got Georgia Taylor Brown in the women's like. Yeah you're right. You can't just have a steel ball and go out there on a fixie and be able to keep up. Unfortunately they are the best athletes in the world. Yeah. Exactly. On the best equipment. Yeah, exactly.
00;13;53;26 - 00;14;14;06
Speaker 4
But yeah, those quick pros I mean everything is made in China these days. Taiwan I think they're much for much. And it's like the carbon is not going to be any different. Like if your frame is going to crack your tracks, going to crack as much as a quick pro is going to crack, and especially when we're starting to see it's just expensive.
00;14;14;06 - 00;14;38;04
Speaker 4
Some of these big name bro like 20 plus thousand, you're in the 20 K now like that is just absurd. That is ridiculous. Like I was actually looking at a new bike at the start of this year, and it was like the track maiden. I ride a track maiden currently, and I reckon I bought it 2 or 3 years ago for about 12 then.
00;14;38;04 - 00;15;02;10
Speaker 4
Now the exact same spec for about 15. That's this. 15 or 16. Yeah. Yeah yeah. Display like still or it's just an old Tegra as well. It's not the top top top. Yeah 15,000 now nuts. It's like even can't even compare. Yeah. Like I'd rather go to a quick pro before then spending that you know like 15,000 on another track.
00;15;02;11 - 00;15;23;25
Speaker 4
Again unless you're like one of the best guys in the world or I don't know, you've come from a bit of money or. But it's so hard to afford this sport and justify. So like forking out that kind of money is just absurd. Yeah, yeah. Exactly. Like and we've had this discussion. You're probably better off going, you know, saving your $10,000 on your quick pro and going to Europe and racing.
00;15;23;26 - 00;15;43;03
Speaker 4
You're going to get better doing that than riding a quick pro versus a track or a S works. Yeah. Anyway, if they want to give us a track or an S works, we would love that. We'll take anything really. Send us a bike, send us a quick pro. Yeah. It's a it's a cool little I guess it's interesting.
00;15;43;06 - 00;16;03;23
Speaker 4
Interesting to see where it goes. Yeah. Where where the bike brands go. It's definitely going to start seeing these trying to bikes heading in more and more. But I'll take it on the bike. Yeah I'll take one as well. My address is okay. Yeah I'm heading into a bit of a recap again. This is going to be a week late.
00;16;03;23 - 00;16;25;18
Speaker 4
So we are recapping tizzy. But yes, you won't be hearing this until a week later, so forgive us, but that's just how it is. Tizzy. What'd you think? I'm. First off, I actually started buddy, and I know I just asked you, but I smoked the predictions, I killed it. Well done. Lucky. I just want to give you flowers.
00;16;25;19 - 00;16;44;14
Speaker 4
Give me my flowers. Here, I got four. I got three people in the right position. And then I picked Tom Leno to come third. And he got second. Four to the six. Anybody who says that I can't predict if you don't know ball, I know ball. That's good. Anybody that doesn't know lucky nose ball. Go fuck yourself. Sorry.
00;16;44;15 - 00;17;05;26
Speaker 4
Too far. Sorry. One of those moods I know. Jesus. Anyway, to be expected, the Hungarians are. I don't know what happens. Something in the water there at titty. For the Hungarians, they just get a little extra boost. I don't think anyone should go back to tizzy. Yeah, it's a male athlete. If you're a male athlete, just don't even bother.
00;17;06;02 - 00;17;23;01
Speaker 4
Yeah, I'm a layman. He's good. Good. He's actually six in a row. I don't know if there's any other person who's won six in a row. He makes it look like a buddy. Milo Wheat, mixed race. Honestly, go send Matty Houser there and Sangha will find a way to win it. Yeah. Make it a run race and send Alex G.
00;17;23;03 - 00;17;43;00
Speaker 4
That song will win it. Yeah. You can't beat him. Yeah, like there is just something there where song turns into Superman. Soon. As soon as tizzy comes. So six in a row. I definitely think we're going to start seeing really go back next year. Will he go for the ten? Yeah. Have we ever seen anyone win something ten times in a row?
00;17;43;02 - 00;18;03;15
Speaker 4
I mean, not maybe not on the world's only like Noosa. Yeah, I think Craig Walton and no, it was, ash did not get ten. Nah, I don't think so. I think he could at ten. Yeah. Ash was the only one. Well they are, that's ten other than that. But so race I mean like song as song as a tizzy local.
00;18;03;17 - 00;18;26;28
Speaker 4
He grew up there. Like that's going to be. That's going to be his race for the next for the, for the foreseeable future. Until he gets bored. Yeah. He goes, well, how cool would a tizzy be as a World Series with a sprint one day at like heats and finals? Is it is it already kind of like like I look at tizzy and go to the World Cup equivalent of Hamburg.
00;18;27;00 - 00;18;49;26
Speaker 4
Yeah. Yeah. It's the iconic. Yeah. It's an iconic setup. It's an iconic place. The crowd love tizzy. Like they really get around it. Epic atmosphere. But I mean Hamburg used to be the relay like for a brief period the Hamburg was the the heats and finals. So it's kind of similar to that. I don't think it'll be a World Series, though.
00;18;49;28 - 00;19;09;09
Speaker 4
It's not a big enough place. It doesn't have the venue for it. The infrastructure is just not there because it is tiny. You do watch it and you go, it does look like a bit of a Milo triathlon setup. Well, where the because the bike course is literally basically the whole city. Whole city. Yeah. And then the town and then the run is just like around the block.
00;19;09;11 - 00;19;42;00
Speaker 4
Yeah. So block run, swim. The smallest little pond swamp, literally three laps to make up the 750 is just crazy. But it's cool. It's cool, it's iconic. Yeah. It's iconic. So yeah, like you said, Song of Lemon took the win. Yeah, yeah. I mean, there was no real doubt, was there? I mean, Tom Luno, I, I didn't think he was ever going to outrun song, but I mean, he has had some massive races at the end of last year.
00;19;42;00 - 00;20;04;01
Speaker 4
So Tom he's a freak swimmer, really good, really strong on the bike. And just another powerful Frenchie that is coming up. He's running his. Then just come along. And there's just so many like there are so many French athletes just coming up. Yeah. Who could potentially be well be good in the coming years. So he held on for second, and then you had Spain.
00;20;04;01 - 00;20;31;18
Speaker 4
I I'm going to be honest, I didn't know this person until third, but what a breakout. Pelayo Gonzalez rounding out the podium. Yeah. All pretty close. I mean again to be expected. Yeah. Exactly. Like it's it gives that SuperSprint dynamic over a sprint distance. Yeah. And we said that in the preview. But yeah. And then in the women's fanny slice, she's young I think she's only about 17.
00;20;31;19 - 00;20;50;20
Speaker 4
I think she's still a junior. Yeah. Still a junior winning a World Cup. And I feel like we've been talking about her for years. Ages. I think she debuted on Super League. Super League at 15. Yeah. Yeah. So that's ridiculous. Speaking about it for like nearly for four years now. She's still a junior which is on the Hungarians as a whole.
00;20;50;21 - 00;21;11;02
Speaker 4
Like we see the French, we go, oh, there's hordes of French men and women that are just coming out of the woodwork left, right and center. And yes, they have the French GP. And then we have the Brits. They have, you know, every second Brits, a great Brit as well. And they have their Bruce Super series, which is a massive junior feeding pool.
00;21;11;03 - 00;21;36;14
Speaker 4
So you see those two great triathlon nations and then you also have the Germans with the Bundesliga. They have massive, you know, internal national races. The Hungarians they have they do have such a strong contingent for such a small country. But then, I don't know, it is so easy for them to be able to go to the Bundesliga, to be able to go to the.
00;21;36;15 - 00;22;01;10
Speaker 4
So you probably have like a song a or, you know, even a fanny, like they are exposed to that racing. Funny. It is like they can easily go and race. Yeah. Elsewhere like like even within Europe, like you had I remember watching Jarl petty star, Portuguese athlete. He was racing in Khyber on last year as like a second last year junior racing in the under 23 category.
00;22;01;10 - 00;22;19;10
Speaker 4
So like he's racing in a French Grand Prix. Yeah. Even though he's not French, he's still racing a French race. So like it's it's so easily accessible for them to be able to go to a Bundesliga, go to a French Grand Prix. I mean, no one's really going to the UK to to race in a British series. There's not, I don't think, I don't know, it's not as big, not really worth it.
00;22;19;10 - 00;22;43;15
Speaker 4
But again they're still like the hundreds of British athletes there. But yeah, I think, I mean Europe, Europe just are looking unstoppable. I think Australia's Australia is getting bigger and better. I think the Kiwis are coming up as well. Like it's obviously not just yeah, Europe, other Americans slowly lacking behind. I was actually about to say I think they are.
00;22;43;15 - 00;23;01;28
Speaker 4
And we talked about this before and maybe we can we're completely we've completely digressed again though. Yeah. Okay. We'll go into it later. Yeah. We'll finish the we'll finish off the women's, give them their flowers and then we can go on to. Yeah. Fanny Salai, like we said, just another, a Hungarian, took the crown there. Taylor Knibb.
00;23;01;29 - 00;23;23;05
Speaker 4
Yeah, a big comeback, I think. Yeah. NIB back racing a World Cup. It showed her bike dominance here like it showed realistically in this women's race, the swim bike breakaway. And I think having a Taylor Knibb in there really helps. Like she is probably the best female cyclist. Yeah I mean with like you you got a full Luger and you got a Georgia Taylor Brown.
00;23;23;05 - 00;23;43;16
Speaker 4
You mean when Taylor Knibb is riding the writing and the time trial at the Olympic Games for America, and I think she just won the American time trial champs. Yeah, yeah. So, like, to be expected. And with a tyrosine ski rounding out the podium in third, claiming a first ever World Cup podium, there was a massive, massive result from Tara.
00;23;43;18 - 00;24;02;23
Speaker 4
A just a phenomenal swim biker as well. So for Tara and Fanny to probably be, I can't exactly remember the order of who came out of the water, but those two do have. I would, I would say push that swim and then add the black power of Taylor Knibb. That that I know there were a three day, three person breakaway.
00;24;02;24 - 00;24;26;03
Speaker 4
Very strong riders. Oh, exactly. Yeah, exactly. We've seen Tara breakaway in domestic races over here in Australia. Just swim, bike ride away from everyone. So, we saw her do it at the Oceania Champs in Davenport this year. So, Yeah, I think that was to be expected. We didn't pick her, but I'm not surprised. I mean, yeah, first break out, I'm sure we'll pick her more and more now.
00;24;26;04 - 00;24;50;01
Speaker 4
We definitely. Especially I feel as if Tara's. Tara just raised her WTS debut last weekend. And from reports that I heard obviously through the grapevine, I think what what a lot of people experience for the first time when they do go and races World Series races is how aggressive the bike riding is. That's the first thing I hear all the time.
00;24;50;02 - 00;25;11;29
Speaker 4
You know, the swimming and running is kind of, you know, maybe a little bit quicker than what it would be at a World Cup. And obviously it is at a cup level. It's much, much faster, but there's just no let up on the bike. Like we see a lot of you look at like a Chengdu. You look at, I'm thinking Wells on the weekend, maybe not as much, but, a lot of those races do tend to come together.
00;25;12;03 - 00;25;29;02
Speaker 4
And basically because people are looking around where if a bike pack comes together in a World Series, I think it's purely just because the Chase pack working fine, working better. But it's not trying to say that the front pack will let up at all. Like they are just all around such, such strong cyclists at the World Series level.
00;25;29;09 - 00;25;51;01
Speaker 4
And I'm pretty sure Tara, yeah, she'll excel in those races that have a really strong swim ride. It's just experience. It's just experience almost. Now she will know what to expect when she because I'm sure she took the she took the experience from keeper on the week before. Took that into tizzy and went, okay, I've got two girls here that are going to be motoring.
00;25;51;03 - 00;26;09;27
Speaker 4
I know what to expect. It's not going to be a shock on the system when you go, oh my God, these girls are pushing XYZ Watts. Yeah, she knows what to expect now. So yeah, she's definitely gonna be one to watch when it comes to those sort of swim bike breakaways, because I can I think Tara is almost going to not replace because I know Emma Jeff Coat is planning to be back.
00;26;10;04 - 00;26;35;09
Speaker 4
Very similar style of racing. Yeah, yeah. And and I don't mean to be like this for Emma at all. I think her running pedigrees potentially even better. Yeah. So, it'll be it'll be exciting to see what tires and, and ski can do. As a, as a very biased Australian. That's good. And just as we were kind of saying, are the Americans dying?
00;26;35;12 - 00;26;59;13
Speaker 4
Yeah. Taylor did get a second. So she did get second. Yes, yes, yes. However, I think overall, I think I know where you're coming from overall in the coming in the like since previous years, previous years. I think that American, the American dominance is slowly fading away, which is surprising because like you do look at the podium project and like you kind of see like the backing that these Americans have.
00;26;59;15 - 00;27;22;06
Speaker 4
Like we don't have the the Katie severe as the summer Rapoport or the Kirsten Casper, I mean Taylor Spivey still in it Taylor Knibb. But like think of all of those names that we had before. Yeah. When Jorgensen like yeah the probably one of the best stars of the sport. Like we haven't had people come up and replace those guys were usually countries who are so successful, have young predecessors that come up and take their place.
00;27;22;06 - 00;27;55;03
Speaker 4
They haven't really hit their straps like you would expect they heart or will going into a home games. And we spoke about that before. Yeah, coming into the Olympics, nearly every home crowd needs a champion to root for in America. Yeah. Especially America. Well, you look at Paris. Yeah, the streets were lined there like they were packed because you had Leah Berger, Dorian Codex and Cassandra Cassandra Lombardi.
00;27;55;05 - 00;28;12;26
Speaker 4
Oh, you had you had a massive French contingent. You had three men, three women who honestly, all three of them could have been on the podium. Yeah, like great athletes. Tokyo obviously a bit of a bit of a mess. But you go back to London. 2012 Brownlee's. Both Brownlee's streets were lined. Who else was.
00;28;12;26 - 00;28;14;25
Speaker 3
There for the women?
00;28;14;27 - 00;28;21;09
Speaker 4
GTP oh goodness gracious, I'm gonna I'm gonna absolutely have a mind blank here. And this is going to be horrible. Jenkins.
00;28;21;10 - 00;28;22;17
Speaker 3
Jenkins. Helen Jenkins, Helen.
00;28;22;17 - 00;28;48;08
Speaker 4
Jenkins on the podium. So like you had you always have the home, the home nation. Nation always has someone to back. Yeah. See because let's be real, we're we're obviously Australia is the home nation in Brisbane 32. How much emphasis is Brisbane 32 for us right now it's all we talk about. Probably bigger than LA. It's way bigger than LA like.
00;28;48;09 - 00;29;13;06
Speaker 4
But honestly it's kind of like a stepping stone. 232 LA right now 32 is the thing. Obviously LA is still big. We want to perform, but we want to. It's almost like we want to perform. It's setting up to be able to set up for Brisbane. So like as a home nation, as a, as a as a coming Olympic home nation and athletes in the sport, we already know how important 30 to 1 in 6 or 7 years is.
00;29;13;08 - 00;29;36;00
Speaker 4
Like, that's the big one for us. So I can only imagine how much investment America has made into All In Your Seat with the podium project. But we just haven't I don't know, we just haven't seen those American fleets step up yet. Yeah, on the start line. And there's still some very good athletes. You've got Seth Rider, you've got, John Reid, we have Reece Venison.
00;29;36;01 - 00;29;56;00
Speaker 4
Like you've got some of the big project kids. But yeah I don't know. Just haven't really they haven't hit it like I think they should be hitting it right now. Yeah. And I think that's going to be detriment coming into LA as a whole of an atmosphere, because we're going to get into probably the best atmosphere in the sport, you know, which is Hamburg.
00;29;56;01 - 00;30;20;13
Speaker 4
Oh. Oh yeah. But the atmosphere I think in LA won't match something of the Olympics in Paris or London. Okay. This could be a little bit controversial. Yeah. The US are obviously lucky that they well not lucky. But the US as the home nation, they get a team automatically. Yeah. If they didn't have that automatic selection do you think.
00;30;20;15 - 00;30;43;01
Speaker 4
And again very tough as they are the silver medalist coming out of Paris. But with the athletes right now do you think that they would struggle to be in that top eight. It's I don't think in I think they would always make a top eight in the relay. Yeah. So I think individually it might be a bit harder.
00;30;43;08 - 00;31;00;03
Speaker 4
See I think they might would only get like I mean it's hard to say because like the I'll tell you, the American women are better than American men. Well I mean, you go to Taylor Knibb and Taylor Spivey. Yeah. So they're always going to be top 30 in the world. Yeah. Is. We obviously see Morgan Pearson. Looks like he's coming back in more course.
00;31;00;03 - 00;31;21;25
Speaker 4
But you have a John Reid who's very good. Yeah, he's got his. He has his weaknesses. He's going. I think he would like scrape through in the top 30. Qualify. Yeah. And then like Seth Rider would be somewhere on the cusp that's qualifying for the individual. But as a team realized as a team relay. Don't know if it's as good as what they were last.
00;31;21;26 - 00;31;39;25
Speaker 4
So tough because these are the guys that got second at the Olympics last year for the team Taylor Spivey, Taylor nib. How much can they really do now? They've had their bit of like bit of gold long course Morgan Pearson he's the same Seth Rider. Yeah Seth Rider is an absolute weapon when it comes to his short course mixed team relay.
00;31;39;25 - 00;31;55;24
Speaker 4
So he's the guy. But I just I don't know I don't know if the team is. I don't know if the American Pearson will come back what it was. I just don't think I don't think the American team is the same with that. It used to be anymore. No. Anyway, I guess we'll see. We'll see. Even on to Hamburg.
00;31;55;26 - 00;32;14;16
Speaker 4
We might get a lot of hay for that, because I know the American will. They're a righteous bunch. Yeah, they can be a salty when we have to get them. Yeah, they do take it to heart. Yeah. Proton is going to be coming at us. Yeah. What the hell, bro? What the hell, bro? Dogs was like that? We actually read a lot of pressure on you good guys.
00;32;14;19 - 00;32;36;18
Speaker 4
They just care about long. Course. Don't hate. Oh, don't hate us, dude. Oh, but yeah, you're right. Hamburg. Hamburg. That's it. Yes. Hamburg probably. And I feel like we say this, you know, a lot, but Hamburg is probably going to say my favorite World Series. Yeah, on the calendar. I think it would be mine as well. It's the home of Daniel Unger.
00;32;36;19 - 00;32;59;22
Speaker 4
I don't know why. The American. I'm stuck with the American one. Yeah, it's Daniel Unger territory. Yeah. Next year will be the 20 year anniversary of Daniel Unger becoming world champion. That would be a big one for, I think, every German and Aussie. Now that we've adopted Daniel Unger as an Aussie, every German and Aussie needs to be at Hamburg next year for world champs and the 20 year anniversary of Daniel Unger becoming doesn't even matter who becomes the world champion.
00;32;59;23 - 00;33;18;24
Speaker 4
It's just it's the 20th anniversary. It's the Daniel I don't I feel bad for the for the woman who won in 2007. Oh 100% sure. I had to fact check that, but if it wasn't a German, we don't care. You know, it wasn't Daniel Unger, so I don't care. But yeah, that's going to be the Daniel Unger 20 year anniversary party next year.
00;33;18;24 - 00;33;24;22
Speaker 4
But focusing on this year, Daniel, is 19th anniversary.
00;33;24;25 - 00;33;50;08
Speaker 4
Exactly. Yeah. Iconic. An iconic race on the circuit. Just the backdrop. Everything for even the little things swimming under that Hamburg bridge. Scary. Looks terrifying. But yeah, it looks menacing. Awesome. Mixed team relay world champs. I think that's the big thing for this weekend. Icing on the cake. Yeah. You have a world championship. You someone a country will become a world champion.
00;33;50;08 - 00;34;14;18
Speaker 4
World champion after this weekend. So, And it's always pretty chaotic. Like they're riding over cobbles, tight streets, swim, bike breakaways tend to happen. I feel like if you win Hamburg, it's a big thing. Yeah, it's an iconic one. Win Hamburg. It's probably like the three. Oh I mean the two. It's like Yokohama now in Hamburg. Yeah. They're like the, the two real iconic ones that we have set in stone.
00;34;14;18 - 00;34;36;09
Speaker 4
I mean, Abu Dhabi has been around for a while, but it just doesn't have that doesn't have the charm like that old European. Yeah. Town. Yeah. Like there's something about it. Yeah. So and there's a lot of big dogs back racing. Yes. And I mean, we say I think that's, that's also an allude to Hamburg. Like, yeah, people aren't going to miss out on Hamburg.
00;34;36;10 - 00;34;58;09
Speaker 4
People don't want to miss out on Hamburg. I think the athletes love racing there. Yeah, I've heard that. It's probably like the best place to have an event. Like the atmosphere, the crowds. Like you hear the stories of Hamburg. Some psychotic. Yeah. She's iconic predictions of how we think Hamburg will go through an individual scope. We'll start with the men.
00;34;58;12 - 00;35;33;21
Speaker 4
Looking at the men looks like. And again, I know last year it was a very wet. It was a bit torrential, not the nicest conditions. We did see a breakaway. Yeah. Looking at the looking at who's there, I think it's going to be another breakaway. Again. The only thing with these breakaways now that do make me nervous, these swim bike breakaways is we have so many good swimmers that are they are those really like if you have 20 really good swimmers and you want to 8 to 10 person breakaway for like that really significant bike power breakaway those sort of 5 to 10 extras coming off the back there.
00;35;33;21 - 00;35;53;07
Speaker 4
Gap fillers for those chase pack guys. So like if you got gap fillers there, you've got an Alex Ollie Conway who are very good at getting on there. Like they're very tactical. They're good on the bike, they're technical, they're small. Hayden Wild is another example of that. Like they can go all the gap fillers there are perfect for them.
00;35;53;09 - 00;36;14;28
Speaker 4
Yeah yeah that's their semi. Yeah. Semi sorry. Semi attachment to the front pack. So they're able to use that work their way around the corners, work their way through the pack. And then all of a sudden instead of a yeah an 8 to 10 person breakaway. But I just don't see a 50 man park happening in the streets of Hamburg like no cobwebs, tactical corners, like a just powerful, really powerful.
00;36;14;28 - 00;36;42;13
Speaker 4
And that's why you see guys like Graf Hauser Croce only last year was great as well. They're going to excel. Lots of 1200. What X spikes out of corners like very powerful course my thinking as well. Now off the back of key Braun is the front. The front pack of athletes isn't set in stone. We were talking earlier in this year about like, Graf is always going to be there and our goal is going to be there most of the time.
00;36;42;15 - 00;37;08;09
Speaker 4
Kind ls going to be chasing like like a houser will like obviously I think House is always going to be there, but like those few guys missed out last last weekend or key run on that front pack. Yeah. So those 20 swimmers are all very good. Any 20 of any ten of them can get away. Yeah I think now and like hopefully we don't see any moto interruption.
00;37;08;10 - 00;37;27;07
Speaker 4
Yeah I mean we already spoke about that. But that's just getting annoying. That's getting very silly. But yeah because then you got like you got athletes complaining about it as well. And you never want like athletes to be complaining about something that's outside of their control. And it's not. And like realistically you're in the front park and there's a motorbike there.
00;37;27;10 - 00;37;41;05
Speaker 4
As annoying as it is, no athlete is really going to go, get out of my way. No, no. Why am I drafting off you? Get out of. Get out of my way. Don't want to be drafting you. Drafting off you. Yeah. You're going to use it like you're were athletes and competitors in a day. If it's there, it's there.
00;37;41;06 - 00;38;01;14
Speaker 4
You just. You just do it. But yeah, I don't know. I mean, do you think it's going to be a breakaway? You expecting a breakaway? Yeah, I think off my picks, I've picked a breakaway. I'm not going to be as aggressive with it anymore because as non Stanford likes to remind me last time I was very very still owe a coffee.
00;38;01;16 - 00;38;17;29
Speaker 4
I owe her a coffee. I owe Aaron a coffee. I owe a lot of people coffees because my predictions in the past. So I'm not going to go back to that. It's yeah, we haven't had a good run on how we think race is going to go. It's going to be a breakaway with with an asterisk. So it like come together.
00;38;18;01 - 00;38;34;09
Speaker 4
Bit of a sigh I breakaway with the side I. Okay give us your picks then for Hamburg and I've got a I'm a little bit upset with you because. So when we do these picks sometimes you know, because we can't both just go. We'd both love to be able to go. Oh, Maddie Hauser, we're both going to pick ours up.
00;38;34;10 - 00;38;47;20
Speaker 4
That gets a little bit boring. We can't both get us. And usually I'm the Rogue One. No, you always pick ours. And then I go, oh, I'm not going to pick Houser because you've picked it. And then we're just going to look like the biased Aussies, and then no one's going to want to listen to our picks anymore.
00;38;47;20 - 00;39;08;07
Speaker 4
So I go elsewhere and I pick like an Alex year ahead. Go. And then every Aussie has my face on a wanted poster because I haven't picked him. It's like I wanted to, but I have to for the sake of the podcast, go elsewhere, go somewhere else. Yeah. So in saying that, I'm picking Maddie Hauser to take the win and I'm sick of taking the high road.
00;39;08;07 - 00;39;32;10
Speaker 4
And then Leighton just keeps you. He refuses to take the high roads. I'm going to pick Maddie Hauser. Yeah, I just think this course has houses name written all over it. He's going for three, Houser going for three. Three from three. I've got the big bad German Henry Graf, after last week missing the front park and then having the third fastest run of the day with his biking pedigree.
00;39;32;10 - 00;39;52;24
Speaker 4
I just think Henry Graf and had all go after having the fastest run last week. He's going to back up and he's gonna do some things this week. Okay, well, I've got Hauser as well because I actually picked him first and my justification was three in a row. Then I have Dorian Königs off the back of his win.
00;39;52;24 - 00;40;10;24
Speaker 4
I was actually feel as if he's confident I was going to do that, too, until I found out you picked him to go elsewhere. Dorian Koenig's, you know, he's he's vintage, only aging like fine wine. No, but that's a thing, you know, with an older body. Take a bit more time to recover. Yeah, we'll be back up.
00;40;10;24 - 00;40;26;20
Speaker 4
It's been about three weeks. Yeah, it actually be three weeks. So we preview in this week. He should be right. Yeah. And then I'll have Graf. We have to have a German on the podium in Germany. I think Graf the the crowd will just hype him up and he had a very quick run in second or third fast.
00;40;26;26 - 00;40;47;02
Speaker 4
It was third we actually because Quintero was second. Okay. We spoke about this. Athletes from the home nation just always step up when you're racing at home you step up. We saw it in France last week. Again, we spoke about like athletes stepping up to the Olympics, like the French stepped up at the Olympics. You know Brownlee stepping up in London.
00;40;47;02 - 00;41;05;12
Speaker 4
I mean, there's so many different examples of athletes, just Maddie Hauser stepping up and Wollongong just so dominant there a shout like there's so many, so many scenarios where athletes step up in their home country. So I think when it is a home, I mean, you haven't done it for the women, but when it is a home crowd advantage or a home race advantage, I think they just step up.
00;41;05;13 - 00;41;33;18
Speaker 4
Someone has to. Yeah. Okay. On your women's what actually notably Hayden's back. Hayden is back. Will he stay healthy? I do want to see him race. I would be, I'm actually so curious to see where he's at. What is the dynamic shift when he's there? Like, what's going to happen? Alex isn't racing. Alex has been very quiet. I think they are actually racing Diamond League the same weekend.
00;41;33;18 - 00;41;59;24
Speaker 4
Yeah. Simone. Cassandra. That's why Cassandra. That's why Sandra isn't racing. I mean, pretty selfishly going to Monaco. Really? Why would you want to go there instead of Hamburg? Not committed, I get it. Monaco. So I want to see. See what hating can do. There's an asterisk there. I we haven't seen race in a little while, like the T100 he was last time he was sick off the back of,
00;41;59;27 - 00;42;16;29
Speaker 4
Where were we? Oh, you're our Jiro. He was sick as well, so he wasn't 100% in his two 100 San Francisco. So it'll be interesting to see what he's like in the short course. What hurts me is over a sprint distance. I just don't know if this course is going to suit him, though, I think. I just think he's going to probably come out a little bit behind.
00;42;17;01 - 00;42;35;18
Speaker 4
I just want to see where he swims at more than anything. We know he can ride and and then also what his critical speed on the run is. I don't think he's ever going to lose much. I think he's such a punchy athlete. I think so, but it's hard to see like, yeah, I like we've seen Alex and he hasn't come back quite as good as what he has.
00;42;35;18 - 00;42;58;22
Speaker 4
The Norwegians didn't come back quite as good. I just think Gwen Jorgensen, again, I know there was a long period of time, but I do think, however, the women who go to longer course come back better or slightly or just as good as what they left. Yeah. Jamie George Taylor Brown's jump back in like. Yeah, yeah. Winning everything.
00;42;58;23 - 00;43;19;18
Speaker 4
Exactly. Not winning. And Taylor like she's come back very well last weekend in tizzy. We'll see. It'll be interesting. So that I'm actually more excited to see what Hayden does to be honest I want to see what Hayden does and see if Houser can go the 3323. Yep. Sounds good. Okay. In the women's notably, we said that there was no Cassandra.
00;43;19;19 - 00;43;39;05
Speaker 4
She's being selfish and taking herself to run Diamond League. Yeah, but there is still a very good contingent of women like we have really jumping on the bandwagon of this girl, aren't you, though? I was just going to go through it. Startlist. Sorry. You go. You did the only peril she won here last year. Yep. So that's the big mover and shaker.
00;43;39;06 - 00;43;59;14
Speaker 4
We have a very good German contingent. Yeah. And we just know that they're going to do something like there's how many Germans aren't two, four, six, seven, seven Germans on the start list and some very big names. You know, seven. I think they'll get to the front. I think they'll control the front of the race. Wow. That's actually a very great.
00;43;59;14 - 00;44;27;09
Speaker 4
You've got Lisa Turkish, we've got Laurie Lindemann. Nina. I'm, Franka Rust tangent Uber as well. She also got in the top three at 70.3 worlds last year. I think she was third. Yeah. So very good riders. I think they'll try and control the race from the front. They'll have some tactics and some tactics. But then you also have the equal the Germans and the English, the old rivals.
00;44;27;10 - 00;44;49;18
Speaker 4
Yeah. Just for like a Polish live Matthias. Yeah. So the I think it'll be a bit of a battle between the nations here, to be honest. It's an exciting lineup. It is both. Both men and women. Yeah. Give me your picks. Here you go. Okay, picks. I've gone. Tilda manson. I think you've gone Tilda manson. Every race since Yokohama.
00;44;49;24 - 00;45;18;22
Speaker 4
Well, since probably last year. All. We did it all in trial form. They took jumped on your bandwagon. They did. They did. You still feel free about that? I am episode one I claimed Tilda manson. Maybe episode two the breakout claimed was a breakout a year ago. So no, I think her run is just phenomenal. And yes, there's Beth Paula there, but I don't think I think she's beatable.

Beth Potter is now very much beatable, especially by Tilda Manson. Huge take. Well, she got beat the other day by Tilda. Yeah I'm not saying she's going to be Bebe every single race, but I think that that's a rogue call, bro. She go like one bad race. It would not even a bad race. Had one bad race and she got she didn't even have a bad race.
00;45;39;19 - 00;46;01;14
Speaker 4
It was it was kind of a bad beat. She she had a bad transition and ended up 13 seconds down and then lost the race by one second. No. Yeah. Maybe more. But yeah, but I think Tilda Manson has got over five K. Okay, then I'll have Beth Potter. I think he'll be. I think now we're going to see in the women's it's going to be a two dimension Sandra Grant Beth Potter show.
00;46;01;16 - 00;46;23;04
Speaker 4
Oh mate. Look two dimensions great. But I don't think she's in Beth Potter and conceded by grant territory. Look at her running this year I. Yeah, but okay. You can't argue that she's in some flying form. You've just left out the hair. You've just left out, period. You've just left out turf. The reigning world champion Tudors. You've just put you've just skipped.
00;46;23;05 - 00;46;44;29
Speaker 4
You've just skipped like three categories here. Oh, she's a great athlete and a great runner. But I don't think you can be putting her in Beth Potter and Cassandra Bogart. She's running with them and beating them. Okay, well we'll see. We'll see this weekend or next weekend. Two demands and Beth. Paula. And then I've gone. I haven't gone to German here, which is a bit contradictory to what I've said.
00;46;45;02 - 00;47;07;20
Speaker 4
Jolene Varela, the the T-Rex claw. Yeah, the Belgian I've not made I've not made that up, by the way, that is stolen. But, yeah, when I saw that post World Triathlon did, and I saw the posters in cabron, man, she runs like a T-Rex. Yeah, she does, she she does have a little T-Rex. Yeah, I know, I don't know what biomechanics advantage she like she's getting from that.
00;47;07;26 - 00;47;27;04
Speaker 4
She's scooping. She scooping the wind back. It's almost like scooping water scoop in the air back. I don't know if that's how it works, but it's working for her. Yeah. Good honor. She killed it. The third fastest run last week. Yeah. So, yeah, I've gone a little bit different to you. I've gone Beth Potter in first. I don't think she's missing this one.
00;47;27;06 - 00;47;46;24
Speaker 4
Then I've got Lenny Perry out last year's when I think she's going to be in second. And then I've had to do what I think has to be done. Lisa Turk in third. No German. You just got to put a German there. Like, I just I mean, it was also tough because I could actually see, like a Nina iron or a Laura Lindemann as well over the short distance.
00;47;46;25 - 00;48;07;14
Speaker 4
Like both. Very phenomenal. Just try flights, but runners. Yeah. But yeah, I'm going to go laser. Okay. The big the big money making race though. Yeah. For the first Olympic spots. So we know America have a mixed relay. Who is going to be the first mixed relay to qualify for the Olympics. Yeah. So a big race.
00;48;07;14 - 00;48;30;10
Speaker 4
People want to get that monkey off their back. Yeah. Two male to female. Then we can focus on the third person in the top 30. Yeah. So pretty simple. Then next year. Yeah. So yeah the mixed relay it's going to be interesting. Obviously Australia coming in is the reigning world champ reigning world champs. We don't have the same team as what we had last year.
00;48;30;10 - 00;48;56;01
Speaker 4
We have. We're just missing the two women, the two women. So we had Emma who is still injured. And here we go Sophie Lin retired. So feeling is retired. However two women who. And we're not 100% sure who we'll be racing. Obviously teams will be picked later. But you had Aspen Anderson and Rochelle Hill who are obviously phenomenal athletes, and they killed it in cabron.
00;48;56;01 - 00;49;22;13
Speaker 4
So yeah. Could they be fourth there? Yeah. Could they be our, you know, two women and I don't think, Australia is close at all to settling on two women. No, obviously Maddie Hauser, he'll be our anchor leg, probably until he decides to start not winning everything. To not winning. To not win everything. But, yeah, our two women are definitely up in the air, so I think they're probably going to be out to at the moment.
00;49;22;13 - 00;49;46;17
Speaker 4
I know you guys. So from the wiki who's been doing really well individually, a case for Tara. There's a case. There's a big case for the weekend. You've got Charlotte Derbyshire there as well. We have we have a lot of athletes coming up. So, another notable mention I want to actually throw in who's had a great comeback to injury is Matilda offered.
00;49;46;23 - 00;50;09;10
Speaker 4
Oh, yeah. Second in Wellington Wells. Yeah. Sorry. This is a bit of like a completely, completely side track. But it came to my mind, which we'd never do that never. Sidetrack. Yeah. She's had a phenomenal, come back to racing after three years. Two podiums I think two seconds, two seconds. And the third I don't know. Yeah. Yeah, yeah two seconds actually.
00;50;09;11 - 00;50;34;07
Speaker 4
Yeah. Two seconds. So she's a cracker obviously. Yeah. Been out injured. No, it was third in a cycle. Yeah. She's raced too. Well she's done a couple of local races obviously in like the trial on New South Wales, but yeah, coming back on the world triathlon circuit, soccer wells over in Europe and podium twice. Kudos there. That's that's very big coming off like she had a pretty long road to recovery.
00;50;34;08 - 00;50;47;03
Speaker 4
Like a fair few surgeries. Yeah couple years. So very impressive Shout Tilly. Just wanted to mention that. Cool. Do we think Australia is going to go back to back world champions?
00;50;47;05 - 00;51;01;14
Speaker 4
I mean, anything can happen. I don't want to sound like this guy who isn't back in Australia. Anything can happen when you've got Houser anchor leg. Yeah. All you need. What did he have last year? 18 seconds. Yeah. He did.
00;51;01;17 - 00;51;23;17
Speaker 4
I don't know, I think I'm going. Give me Australia, give me Australia. You're taking this trail. I'm going back to back world champs. I hate doing this and not picking your own country. I might look stupid like next week, but I think Germany can do it at home. Who was anchoring? Who was anchoring them to beat Hauser? I think they've got a how are we going to Graf?
00;51;23;18 - 00;52;05;03
Speaker 4
Hellwig is a big player. He's a big key player that they were missing. How we graph. You've got to turn back and. And Laura Lindemann, Laura Lindemann, that's a that is a very good that's the Olympic champions right there. I mean, they are Olympic champions, so. Oh no, I just I don't I don't see and the only way that I see Australia getting beaten is if Hauser is, for whatever reason, tagged too far back and he isn't able to bridge, say, oh, you've got Conway jumping in with Graf, jumping in with Croce, Ani jumping in with Seth Ryder.
00;52;05;06 - 00;52;24;06
Speaker 4
Yeah. Great swimmers. I'm just trying to think of like, swimmers that Hauser might not be able to swim up to. Like. Hauser has got it down packed. He is so, so explosive and so fast in that water that he'll catch. He'll catch 10s on some of the best swimmers in the world, jump on the bike, give him a lap to recover, and he's good to go again.
00;52;24;08 - 00;52;43;09
Speaker 4
Yeah. No one's beating him in the last 400m. I'm going to say even a k if you get to a K, Houser will just sit on 400 to 1900. Exactly. So how realistic how you dropping him? Like. Yeah. If houses even if houses in the front group on the bike I think Australia wins. You're all looking at second place.
00;52;43;11 - 00;53;02;07
Speaker 4
Yeah. If houses in the front pack of the bike you're all looking at second. You have to have Maddie Hauser actually sort of like probably gonna get in trouble for keep talking like that. But I was trying to be like, why are you telling everyone how to beat? But, if House is not in that front park, then sure, you're in for a sniff.
00;53;02;07 - 00;53;23;04
Speaker 4
Yeah, but he's too good, man. He's way too good. Yeah. And you've got Luke Wilson, who's currently, what, fifth in the World Series right now. Yeah, he's in second. And like we just said Aspen and Rochelle very good up and coming up. And they held their own on. It'd be interesting. Great Britain France and Germany are a problem.
00;53;23;06 - 00;53;49;19
Speaker 4
Yeah. They've all the talent. That's that's probably the other three that, you know, I think within the four nations that you just listed, it could go to anyone, even Italy. Italy are a problem. You got Portugal when you got Portugal, they got Testa and Vasco. That's a problem. Yeah. Yeah, I was, I was very confident. But I still just think when you've got such a key player in Hauser, I don't.
00;53;49;20 - 00;54;07;18
Speaker 4
I don't think it would be electric if Australia won. It would be bouncing up and down. It could be very different with a Hayden Wild in because we saw I'm pretty sure the Kiwis were tagged in like a top three position, and Saxon Morgan just didn't really seem to have a great day in that anchor leg in cabron.
00;54;07;21 - 00;54;29;00
Speaker 4
If you have a Hayden Wilde there instead of a Saxon Morgan, obviously he's going to have. He's super tactical and over 300m. I don't see Hayden losing that much time in the swim. So if you were to say tag a Hayden Wilde in a podium position, that's danger. That's danger territory there. Because you then have to swim around Hayden Wild and he is so tactical, he will just oh, he will just suck the life out of your hip.
00;54;29;00 - 00;54;43;06
Speaker 4
He'll sit right on your hip, will make it so hard for you to get around him, and he will just drag you back to his swimming ability, and then he'll just ride and run away from you. It's going to be great. I'm picking Australia. Give us your pick. I'm gonna go. Are we just going number one. Let's go.
00;54;43;08 - 00;54;48;01
Speaker 4
Top three I'm going to go to. And then I'm going to go.
00;54;48;04 - 00;55;11;00
Speaker 4
France and Germany. Okay, I've gone Germany. Then I think I'm going Australia and Great Britain. That pick just makes no sense to me. How is I just did I that makes no sense to me. If, if, if Australia is coming second that means House would be in the front pack. Or do you think he's running from. He might run from the back.
00;55;11;04 - 00;55;15;29
Speaker 4
That makes no sense to me. You're an idiot.
00;55;16;01 - 00;55;34;14
Speaker 4
I just went for it. I was going pick a third, but I couldn't. I couldn't justify that either. I could justify that. Actually, I could justify that. Okay, it's kind of a wrap, USA. That's going to be a pretty big one to see where they are. I mean, after we've absolutely slaughtered them. Yeah, just we've just absolutely rinsed them before saying that there's no one there for him anymore.
00;55;34;14 - 00;55;53;17
Speaker 4
If they come out in podium, then God, we're going to look like it. It's we are going to look at it is will eat out will eat our words. But that's okay. Yeah. I'll just podcast host with an opinion. Exactly. All right guys that's enough rambling for today. Thank you very much for listening to our recaps, our previews, our other shit chat in between.
00;55;53;18 - 00;56;12;17
Speaker 4
We had nothing to talk about and then we've just spoken for nearly an hour, so that's pretty good. Yeah, just a lot of shit chat. But, that's what we're here for. We love it. Hopefully you guys love it. And again, couldn't keep the lights on. Couldn't keep the we couldn't keep the podcast running without official beer. It is Gold Coast marathon weekend.
00;56;12;17 - 00;56;32;08
Speaker 4
So probably going to be celebrating with a couple of official beers. Couple of official beers. Not as an athlete, this time as a coach. So again, well done. Anybody who's racist last week. Good luck to anybody who's racing in Hamburg again. That will actually be this weekend. I think we keep talking like it's next weekend from when this is released.
00;56;32;08 - 00;56;46;25
Speaker 4
It's actually probably tomorrow. Yeah, it will be actually. Yes it is. Very good. Good luck tomorrow everyone. Thanks once again. That is all. Thank you for listening and we will be back next week. Cool. Good. Now let's get.
