HONDA SUPER ONE – CLEANED VIDEO TRANSCRIPT
[00:00:00] Today I've got a quick test drive of Honda's new big EV, which is very small. It's the Honda Super One. Giving me 1980s Honda City vibes, the Honda Super One is based on a Japanese kei car, just widened a bit. 29.61 kilowatt hour battery. WLTP range, 206 kilometers. It feels a lot roomier than you expect from the size of it.
It handles well. It's a lot of fun to drive. I like the screen, the visibility of the screen. Out the back is good. Large windows. Visibility is very good, so there's no problem seeing. Side mirrors, fine. Headroom, good. I think it's, um, ideal for, inner city driving, small spaces. Something like, you know, around Auckland this would be ideal.
You've got manual controls on the, on the seat for adjustments. Not sure about the lumbar support, but I'm not expecting long driving. the only potential downside is really that, um, [00:01:00] range. But that might not be a problem for you if you're only doing short drives. If that's... If you're only doing 30 K's a day, you're gonna be okay.
It's just if you wanna get out of town, this is not the car for you. I think it's peppy enough though
Nought to 100, I think that's around eight s- eight seconds is it? I feel like I am in a bigger car actually. I went into a, 100... I did have a blast into a 100 km/h zone and that was all right. Yeah, there is noticeable difference in the region setting. That's on one. If I bring it up to four it's much stronger.
What I like really about this car is you've got a combination of manual physical tactile buttons plus its still got the onscreen, um, options. So for the drive you've got driving neutral reverse, parking reverse here. You've your driving modes, physical buttons for that. Physical controls for your heater.
Park hold [00:02:00] Oh, that's better. I didn't have that on before. I was wobbling around a bit. Park hold, put that on or you wobble a bit. and then on the s- on the steering wheel, more controls. so you got your lane... Your distance controls here. Home button. Haven't tried the honk hello yet. where is the honk sound?
Oh. and then two sticks, vents, your boost mode to give you extra power, and you've got the paddles for your regen. And when you go into boost mode and sports mode, they respond like changing, gears on a petrol car. Not sure if it's gimmicky, really crucial, but have a bit of drive. Some nice stitching there.
Steering wheel up and down, but not in and out. Just up and down. Got a little, little mirror there. Two [00:03:00] lights
Headroom is, headroom is good. I'm a bit tight on the seats. I'd have to wear that in a little bit, but that's also I've got a big bum, so that's probably part of the, part of the problem there is my- is me. So you know, I'm a bit probably, you know, on the bigger end of this car. If you're a bit smaller, no problems I would say.
Manual controls for your front seats. power speakers. A 12 volt socket there. One drink holder. Oh, drink holder there. Two USBs and then just a sort of a little tray to put things in here which could... I don't know how long they'd stay in there, and that's your key Straight [00:04:00] into the point. LED headlights, LED tail lights, LED daytime running lights, a gray colored grill with recycled material.
There's three color options for the base model, two-tone for the premium model. No frunk. Normal door handles. Little spoiler there, fin, 15 inch alloys. Rear windscreen wiper which is nice to see. Quite a large area on the back windscreen. Honda there. Manual to open up the boot. 162 liters 'cause this is really a town car.
I have got my PAK’nSAVE shopping bag there. The seats go down.
Quite, yeah, that's not too bad. Quite a flat surface. That's with the seats down. There's anything underneath here? and then your... And there's a little, repair kit there[00:05:00]
Ooh, look at that. Back seats up. I don't even know how I did that. And then you can unclip them and they come down It's tight. It's tight, but doable. So I got my head on the roof at the... in the back seat. in the front seat I'm fine. So this is the first K Class car I've ever been in or based on a K class.
so I find it quite actually more roomier than what I was expecting. You always say how small they are, but it's quite roomy. Doable in the backseat for a short drive, someone my size. Kids will be okay, but it is two seats in the back. Five doors. Some, hand grip there. Sort of plasticky there. Manual opening.
Little drink bottle down there. Not a like, a lot to write home with. My feet are under the front. They're not too bad. There's no pockets. Oh, there's a pocket on the front passenger [00:06:00] side. No coffee cup situation so sparse, but you can adjust your headrest. and there's a light behind you. Heaps of safety features including ABS, vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, emergency brake assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, forward collision warning.
The list goes on. I haven't really had a good chance to, um, you know, test out all the safety features open road and everything. I've just done a quick drive around town, which is really what it's designed for us. does have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, the Google system's baked in. I can reach the screen okay.
It's definitely not overwhelming. If if you aren't into sort of overwhelming screens, this could be the vehicle for you. Got... It's got a physical button for the audio, so that's quite good as well. so if you do like, you know, if you're worried about that whole reaching out to the screen and [00:07:00] having to look away, you've got the safe-- You've got the, ability to just go reach out for the physical buttons, which I like a lot.
Haven't heard a big beep or a bong yet, which is pleasantly surprising. No beeps or bongs, so I am feeling quite relaxed, enjoying the drive. there's my regen, bit of regen. That's quite, that's quite good actually, the regen. That was quite smooth on the regen If I bring it up to four, it's much stronger.
there's two models, two versions of this available. prices are on the screen. there's not much difference from the model up. What you get from the model up, is a sort of a two-tone color. This is the base model. there's not a big difference. Competitors for this would include size-wise would be something like the BYD ATTO 1, um, and which is priced cheaper.
This is priced more like the BYD ATTO [00:08:00] 2 or the GWM ORA 5, which I recently drove. So this is in the $40,000 price point. Overall, an enjoyable drive. I like the combination of technology and old schoolness. The only real thing you really gotta think about if you're gonna consider this is the range issue.
Ideal for short drives around town, um, but you're not gonna be driving a long distance in it. So now I'm at 91% battery, but only 137 kilometers to go. I'd really like to take this for a much, a much longer drive. I feel quite comfortable in it. My bum's getting better into the, into the seat positioning now after a little bit of practice.
so yeah, really, I'd actually like to drive this car a lot further than what it's actually capable of doing. Big thanks to Honda in Tauranga for letting me borrow this vehicle, the Honda Super One. If you're interested in the Honda Super One and you're in Tauranga, give them a call. I put their website [00:09:00] details in the, details section below
