On this auspicious day of Janmashtami, let me share the story of Lord Krishna’s birth and how He got His name. Welcome to Daily Mantras, and let's learn about, "Destiny, Sacrifice, and Divine Guidance".

On this auspicious day, let me share the story of Lord Krishna’s birth and how He got His name. On a peaceful night during the Krishna Paksha, a loving couple—Devaki and Vasudeva—welcomed a baby boy into their lives. Yet, their joy was tinged with fear, as a prophecy foretold that this child would end the reign of Kansa, Devaki's evil brother.

Imprisoned by Kansa, the couple feared for their child's safety. Lord Vishnu devised a brilliant plan, casting a spell that put everyone in neighboring villages, including Kansa and his guards, to sleep. Lord Vishnu then instructed Vasudeva to swap Krishna with a newborn girl in a neighboring village, Gokula, where Yashoda and Nanda resided.

Facing challenges but fueled by determination, Vasudeva carried out Lord Vishnu's plan. When the spell lifted, the girl cried, waking the guards, who informed Kansa. However, the girl transformed into a celestial voice confirming his impending doom. In Gokula, Yashoda and Nanda rejoiced at what they believed to be the birth of a baby boy. They longed to celebrate but were cautious due to Kansa's cruelty.

A scholarly sage, Acharya Garg, performed a simple naming ceremony for the baby. In a humble cattle shed, surrounded by a few, Acharya Garg proclaimed, "This child is extraordinary. He returns to Earth to vanquish darkness and evil. With skin as dark as the Krishna Paksha sky, let him be known as Krishna.”

And so, Lord Krishna earned his name, destined to be worshipped in myriad forms. Lord Krishna's birth defied all odds, illuminating that even in the face of fear, the light of goodness prevails. This tale encapsulates the essence of destiny, protection, and the triumph of light over darkness. This Janmashtami, let the story of Lord Krishna inspire us to trust in divine guidance, embrace our destinies with courage, and work towards dispelling negativity with the radiant light of love, kindness, and goodness.
