And here’s today’s news from Rail Technology Magazine in association with TransCity Rail – on Wednesday the 17th July 2024.

King Charles set out the legislative programme for the new Labour Government during today’s State Opening of Parliament.
The King announced that Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Government will indeed proceed with the long-anticipated launch of Great British Railways, which will see the UK’s private rail operators back into public ownership as their contracts expire.

The replacement of a bridge in Buckinghamshire could mean the future reopening of a disused freight line.
The new Edgcott Road bridge will carry traffic across the new HS2 line and an existing, but disused, freight line.
The freight line runs from Aylesbury Vale Parkway, running alongside HS2 for five miles between the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre and the village of Calvert.
The line was built in 1899 as part of the Great Central Railway, and also carried passenger services between London, Nottingham and Sheffield until the 1960s.
The freight line may even be upgraded in future to start carrying local passenger services once again.

Midlands Connect has announced the appointment of Mike Bull as Programme Director.
Mike brings with him a wealth of experience of working in rail and road transport, having previously held roles at Highways England, the Highways Agency and the British Transport Police. He joins Midlands Connect following three years with HS2 Ltd.
As Programme Director at Midlands Connect, he will oversee flagship projects and research to improve transport infrastructure and bring economic, social and environmental benefits to the region.
