Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

The heart of God yearns over His earthly children with a love stronger
than death. In giving up His Son, He has poured out to us all heaven in
one gift. – Steps to Christ, pg. 21
Whoosh!
She quietly races down the long hallway, hoping no one will
hear her. As she nears the corner of the wall, she takes a long, deep
breath and slowly peeks her head around the corner. There sit the two
people she has been dreading to see. One of them stares, completely
engrossed at a bright laptop screen, while the other puts a tray of
deliciousness into the oven. Staring at the scene in complete obscurity,
she quickly plans her next move. With the people in her way, she
knows she’ll have to make a run for it. So, when the two people aren’t
looking, she runs, jumps, and dives towards the fluffy carpet with all
her might. She then army-crawls across the carpet until she is safely
underneath the bightly lit-up tree.
Her eyes graze over the beautifully wrapped presents in front
of her. Carefully she picks them up, one by one. Shaking them and
trying to figure out their mysterious contents, she eventually gets
bored. However, when she turns to crawl back to her headquarters,
her eyes catch sight of a very small gift wrapped in blue and white
snowflake paper. Curiosity consumes her, urging her see what is
inside that elegantly wrapped present. So, she carefully tears a little
piece of the paper just enough so that she can see inside.
Yes! She thinks to herself. It’s just what I wanted! After
covering up the rip she has made, she creeps back to the corner of the
wall and runs up the stairs as fast as her legs can carry her.
On a snowy winter night, two days before Christmas, I found
out I had been given the present I had always wanted. Exciting as
this worldly present was, I was naive to the fact that I had already
been given something even better: a gift that isn’t hidden in snowflake
paper, but is freely given to me and to all humanity—the ultimate gift of
love from my heavenly Father—the gift of His Son.
