The Unstoppable U Podcast

In this episode of The Unstoppable U Podcast, Coach Will breaks down what it really means to finish strong this school year. With summer break on the horizon, it's tempting to mentally check out—but this is exactly when successful people lock in.

Coach Will contrasts two mindsets: one of complacency and one of commitment. He explains how delaying gratification, building winning habits, and doing what your future self will thank you for is the key to long-term success—not just in school, but in life.
You’ll walk away with practical advice and a fresh perspective on:
  • Why the end of the school year matters just as much as the start.
  • How to make short-term sacrifices for long-term gain.
  • The power of writing down goals to stay focused.
  • Building momentum by finishing what you started.
This episode is your reminder: the joy of summer hits different when you earn it. Let’s finish strong, because your future self is counting on you.

So without further ado, let's dive in. What's up, everybody? Welcome back to another episode.

Speaker 1:

Super pumped that you're here. Happy April. I mean, I cannot believe looking at the the calendar right now, almost at the clock, but the clock does not say April 21. Looking at the calendar, April 21, are you joking me? You might be listening to this in May.

Speaker 1:

You might be listening to this in 2029. That's crazy if you are. I don't know why you are, but if you are, then hello from way back when in 2025. Anyways, I wanted to talk today real quick about the fact that there's two ways to finish the school strong. I mean, we are kinda at the point and if you're like me, you know, you see the light at the end of the tunnel and you see, man, it's starting to feel like summer.

Speaker 1:

It's starting to look like summer. Everyone's starting to get a little bit tan and the summer vibes are slowly, you know, creeping creeping your way. And if that's not the case for you, then I am sorry because I don't know about you. I love summer. Like, I am like 30,000,000,000 times happier in the summer, and I'm a pretty happy person in the winter.

Speaker 1:

And so yeah. I don't know. Maybe it's just me. But I I love the summer. And I feel like, you know, when I was in high school, I would see that light at the end of the tunnel, and I would kinda like clock out.

Speaker 1:

You know, I I would stop turning in assignments in in school. I would, I don't know, just kinda get lazy with my routines and my habits even in sports, which I absolutely love sports. I would start to get really lazy in track, and that was pretty unlike me when it came to, to track. And so I I feel like it's just this mindset that I had that, okay, it's almost done. And so I'm just gonna essentially, you know, not give up, but I'm definitely gonna get a little complacent.

Speaker 1:

And so that's the first way that you can kinda finish this school year. And maybe, you know, you're you're self diagnosing yourself and you're like, bro, that is me. Like, I see that light at the end of the tunnel and I'm like, I'm wearing, you know, flip flops to school. I don't even know if I'm I'm wearing my bathing suit to school. Maybe that's you.

Speaker 1:

Maybe you're just, like, clocking out, you're like, bro, I'm just tired of this school year already, or I should say at this point of the year. Maybe you're in the second boat where you're kind of the opposite. This is kinda how I I would say I finished the school year when I was in college, which I would highly recommend. Of course, if you haven't already kind of guessed that that's kind of where this podcast is going is there's a second way to kind of finish the school year strong, and that is to put your head down and think about pleasing your future self. I mean, general, school aside, that's what successful people do.

Speaker 1:

That's what very confident and happy and fulfilled people do is they delay gratification. They do what's short term hard for long term easy. They do short term discomfort for long term comfort. And we're not talking like ten, twenty years of long term comfort like sometimes I do, but we're talking, okay, I'm gonna lock in and I'm gonna go through kind of the crappy stuff for the next three weeks, and then I'm going to be able to look back once summer comes and say, I actually finished strong. Like I brought some grades up from a B to an A.

Speaker 1:

I brought some grades up from a D to a C. I I passed those classes that I didn't think I was gonna pass. And you can look back on your old self and you can think, am so proud of the fact that I did that. That's what successful people do is they have the intelligence and also the maturity to look forward and say, what can I do to make my future self proud? And I'm not just like sitting here just kinda like, you know, motivating you because I don't know if this is motivating you or not, but I'm just telling you, speaking from experience, it is a whole lot more fun.

Speaker 1:

It's funner. But funner is not a word. So I can't say funner. It's a whole lot more fun that second way, at least when you get to the summer. Right?

Speaker 1:

When you it's fun to like, I guess not really turn in assignments. I don't wanna say it's fun. It's easy to do that. But then when you get to the summer, you're like, oh, I gotta take summer school or dang, I didn't finish strong or my GPA is going to, you know, suffer because I was lazy for like a month. I mean, think about all the hard work that you've put in up until this point.

Speaker 1:

You don't wanna like just throw it away, chat. You know what I'm saying? You don't wanna throw it away. And so that's my that's my encouragement for you today is just ask yourself one question. What can I do right now or this week or this next month until I get out of school, whether it's one month, two months for you, that will make my future self or my summer self pleased?

Speaker 1:

That will make my summer self proud. And when you come up with that list, write it down on a post it note, stick it up on your steering wheel, stick it up on your mirror. Okay? Tattoo it on your forehead, JK. Do not do that because you'll probably get me canceled.

Speaker 1:

Please do not do that, Chad. Okay? Don't do that. Don't write it anywhere on you. But you could write it on your desk for sure.

Speaker 1:

You could stick it up on your refrigerator. Is it your refrigerator or is it your parents' refrigerator? I don't necessarily know. Okay. Whatever you wanna stick it on, go ahead and stick it on so that you're constantly reminded that you wanna be someone who goes through short term discomfort for long term comfort.

Speaker 1:

You wanna be someone that delays gratification because that's just what successful people do. And I have a feeling you wanna be someone that is of success. So you might as well start practicing successful habits now so that when you get to doing things that you really wanna do, you're already someone that is successful. That is all that I've got for you today, chat. If you found today helpful, valuable, somewhat motivating without being the cringiest thing ever, I would love and appreciate so much if you could leave a review for like fifteen seconds.
