Wanna again welcome you to The 405 Coffee Break. Get your cup of coffee, glass, iced tea, bottle of water. Guys, let's see what's happening.
OK Solberg:Spring wheat $5.88 a bushel. Listen to this now. A 608lb steer calf, not just one, 36 head moved through PAYS last week. 608lbs 36 head, and they sold for $4.50.50 a pound. A butcher hog in Iowa 70ยข a pound, and a 100lb lamb that is fat in billing will fetch you two nope. $3.09. $3.09. But guys, there's more, much more.
OK Solberg:You know? You know what? I haven't done a song for a long, long while. I have covered many songs on this program over the years, but I haven't done this one yet.
OK Solberg:We're going back to the year 1966. While many people were rocking and rolling to songs like Last Train to Clarksville by the Monkeys or Groove'in to These Boots Are Made for Walking by Nancy Sinatra, or maybe even Red Rubber Ball by Circle.
OK Solberg:Over on the Country Western chart, we had a #1 hit that absolutely is a beauty. That #1 hit was sung by David Houston, and it's titled Almost Persuaded. Almost Persuaded, we have so many cheating songs, out there. Oh, they're not being faithful. This song, it's a breath of fresh air. It is a breath of fresh air to hear this one.
OK Solberg:It reminds me of a bible verse that's found in Exodus 20:14, Thou shalt not commit adultery. Yeah. What happened till death do us part? Exodus 20:14 holds a commandment that seems to get broken way too often, especially in the Country Western scene.
OK Solberg:And we know being good isn't always easy, and it's because of that this song rings so pure. David Houston singing almost persuaded, which topped the country charts for 9 full weeks. Nine weeks and won 2 Grammy Awards. Listen. Last night, all alone in a barroom, met a girl with a drink in her hand.
OK Solberg:She had ruby red lips, coal black hair, and eyes that would tempt any man. Then she came and sat down at my table. Then she placed her soft hands in mine. I found myself wanting to kiss her. For temptation was flowing like wine.
OK Solberg:And I was almost persuaded to strip myself of my pride, almost persuaded to push my conscience aside. Then we danced, and she whispered, I need you. Take me away from here and be my man.
OK Solberg:Then I looked into her eyes and I saw it, the reflection of my wedding band. And I was almost persuaded to let strange lips lead me on, almost persuaded, but your sweet love made me stop and go home. What about that then? Chalk one up to the faithful husband.
OK Solberg:Reminds me of another song, and this one was sung by none other than Marty Robbins and it's titled My Woman, My Woman, My Wife. Hands that are strong but wrinkled, doing work that never gets done, hair that's lost some of the beauty by too many hours in the sun, eyes that show some disappointment, and there's been quite a lot in her life.
OK Solberg:She is the foundation I lean on, my woman, my woman, my wife. Every day has been uphill. Oh, we've climbed, but we can't reach the top. I'm weak, and I'm easily discouraged. She just smiles when I want to stop.
OK Solberg:Lips that are weary but tender with love that strengthens my life. A saint in a dress made of gingham. my woman, my woman, my wife. Two little babies were born in the spring, but died when the winter was new. I lost control of my mind and my soul, but my woman's faith carried us through.
OK Solberg:When she reaches that river, Lord, you know what she's worth. Give her that mansion up yonder because she's been through hell here on earth. Lord, give her my share of heaven if I've earned any here in this life because God, I believe she deserves it. my woman. my woman. my wife. Two great songs dedicated to that dear sweet wife.
OK Solberg:So until next time, as you go out there, remember now being good isn't always easy, and it's okay if you're almost persuaded because the key is almost, and don't be bitter.
