Hello literature lovers!

Welcome back to our long-time listeners, and a very warm welcome to those of you tuning in for the first time. I’m your host, Cedering Fox, WORDTheatre’s Founder & Artistic Director.

Before we get to today’s story—Carribean Fragoza’s “Eat The Mouth That Feeds You,” performed by Mishel Prada— we’d like to reintroduce ourselves. We’re doing a rebranding…

We’ve been known as WORDTheatre Weekly. But today we’re thrilled to begin a new chapter with a new name: Short Story Specialists. We were first labeled this by the Sunday Times of London, and we really think that the title captures the heart of WORDTheare’s work for the past 24 years. Pairing remarkable writers with acclaimed actors to bring literature to life through unforgettable performances.

Each week, we share one of these stories from our vast archive of live shows, recorded in Los Angeles, New York, London, and beyond. We are known for selecting really poignant, beautifully written short stories. But on occasion will highlight poetry, and sometimes we’ll share excerpts from our longer pieces. Like the one you heard last week, the opening of Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey.

If you’d like more bonus content, like author and actor interviews and behind-the-scenes glimpses into the world of literature brought to life, follow our new Instagram @shortstoryspecialists.

In the coming weeks and months, we will be unveiling some additional new features. Keep an eye on our social media and website if you want to be one of the first to hear…

And now, please enjoy Carribean Fragoza’s “Eat the Mouth that Feeds You,” performed by Mishel Prada, an actress who may have graced your screen in Vida, The Continental, Fear the Walking Dead: Passage, or Riverdale. Mishel and Carribean were just at our most recent event in June, California Women: Golden State Writing in Performance, which was held in Santa Monica at the William Turner Gallery.

Please note that WORDTheatre holds the copyright to these recordings, and no portion of anything you hear on Short Story Specialists may be reproduced without permission.

And now Mishel will transport you!

MISHEL PRADA READING EAT THE MOUTH THAT FEEDS YOU PLAYS

You’ve just heard Mishel Prada reading “Eat the Mouth that Feeds You” by author Carribean Fragoza. As a mother I can tell you that gives some food for thought, pun intended.
