Speaker: [00:00:00] Welcome to the San Clemente Podcast, the only local podcast in the best beach town in the world. We're here to bring you weekly episodes highlighting everything from sports, culture, entertainment, politics, and everything else this beach town has

Speaker 2: to offer

Speaker: Welcome back to the San Clemente Podcast. Brian de la Puente and I are so excited to have Julia Pettidon from the Beaches, Parks & Rec.

Today is Thursday, July the 2nd. Already kicking right into summertime, stars and stripes, summer nights. We

Speaker 2: are so excited, yes.

Speaker: I am so excited because I just looked down at the piece of paper Brian handed me- ... and I realized that we have a movie on the beach tonight.

Speaker 2: Tonight, yes. We are showing Top Gun: Maverick tonight on the beach.

It will be, um, just north of the pier. Yeah. So at the pier where if you've been to our beach concerts where the stage is normally for our beach concerts, that's where the screen will be. We have a 40-foot screen. It's gonna be a really big show. And yeah, we're excited. [00:01:00] It's gonna be fun.

Speaker: So

Speaker 2: what's the- We've never done a movie on the beach before, too.

This is our first time.

Speaker: I was gonna say, is the turnout for something like this usually pretty big? But it's the first time you're doing it.

Speaker 2: First time we're doing it, yeah. Yeah. So we do a movie in the park normally, um, every year, and that is in the springtime, and we do it at Forester Ranch Park 'cause we have that nice amphitheater, but this is our first time doing it on the beach.

So, um- That's exciting ... we figured Top Gun would be su- such a fun one with our military community so present and, um, I think it's just gonna be really fun.

Speaker 3: Oh, that movie, too, is so good. It's

Speaker 2: a great movie. I

Speaker 3: know. If you haven't seen it, it's so good, start to finish.

Speaker: Better than the first

Speaker 3: one. I think

Speaker 2: maybe.

I

Speaker: like them both. And see- I like them

Speaker 2: both.

Speaker 3: And it's tonight. Oh my gosh.

Speaker: And

Speaker 2: it's

Speaker: tonight.

Speaker 2: And it's tonight.

Speaker: Tonight's the night. Tonight is the night already.

Speaker 3: Yeah. It kicks it off. Kicks it off. I

Speaker 2: know.

Speaker 3: Is it, like, a giant s- like, blow-up screen, or what's-

Speaker 2: Yeah, giant blow-up screen. And something that is unique that we are doing this year, um, is we have a VIP option.

So basically our crew is gonna go down and set up pre-set up chairs in front of the screen. So if you're working in the day, you don't wanna go and [00:02:00] set up your blanket really early, um, and you would like to kind of have a close seat, then the VIP option's a really good, a really good option, and you get to take home your, your beach chair after.

So, um, the beach chairs are awesome. They are kind of like a low sitting chair, so, um, they're great for the summer concerts too. If you plan to come to the summer concert series and you get a VIP chair, you take it home with you, you can use it all summer. So, um- That's true ... so we're excited about. Yes. Yeah.

So your VIP tickets are available online. You can go on our sanclemente.gov/register. All of our registration for programs and events happens on our online registration system. Um, so we will sell until they sell out, so if we sell them pre-sale, then it's not available for the day. Um, we do have a limited quantity available, so if we have more available on the day of, we'll continue to, um, offer sales on the day of.

But if we sell out beforehand, then, um, then we sell beforehand. So, um, I would get your tickets for... There is separate tickets for the movie and for the concert, so for the movie specifically, um, yeah, [00:03:00] $25, get your beach chair set up for you right there in front of the screen.

Speaker: Don't procrastinate. Make sure you go.

Yeah. It's tonight

Speaker 2: It's tonight

Speaker: SanClemente.gov. Get on your computer, go to SanClemente.gov and register and get it done. Before we get too, too much into the Stars, Stripes, and Summer Nights, Brian, Ryan, and I, honestly, we speak so highly about the Beaches, Parks, and Rec.

Speaker 2: Oh,

Speaker: yes please. You guys do such a good job.

You've done so much for me and Salty Turf and for Brian, I know near and dear to his heart, and the friends of San Clemente. Yep. Um, so I just wanted to say thank you. You guys are honestly amazing. Samantha Wiley- Oh, yes ... your entire team and group at the city has been outstanding, so thank you guys. You guys are awesome to work with.

Speaker 2: Thanks so much for saying that. And I do, I feel like I have the best team ever, and it is a really fun city to work for. And it's really fun to be here 'cause your podcast is amazing. I feel like I'm so excited to be, um, to be a part of this. It's, um, been so fun to hear from you guys, and I feel like you represent San Clemente so well.

So it's, um, it's wonderful.

Speaker: We're just very grateful that Samantha sent the [00:04:00] A-team-

Speaker 2: Oh ... to

Speaker: sit

Speaker 2: down. I'm definitely the B team. Yeah. Very grateful. Samantha's the A-team. I'm the B team, for sure. Um, but yes, I am happy to be here, and I'm happy to talk about all things, all things events, so.

Speaker: Awesome.

Speaker 3: Yeah, we kinda, Jeff and I usually do like, like kind of like an internal, that's what we're calling it, and we just kinda talk about all the things in the city.

Mm-hmm. We thought it would be a great leading, leading up to this weekend to like this is where, this is what's happening. Yeah. Kind of like myth bust, like no, that's actually not the right thing. So- No ... I'm excited to kinda, we have all the information and, and we'll be able to kinda disseminate it how we want and how it is actually going to happen.

Like, you know, road closures and where to park and where to park your bikes and- VIP packages. So let's, I mean, let's dive into it. What do we- Really ... tonight we have the movie.

Speaker 2: Tonight we have the movie. Tomorrow night we have the concert.

Speaker 3: Okay.

Speaker 2: So, um, I know, that's a great point. I was actually talking with Brian a little bit before this.

I feel like when we're in the planning stages of something, sometimes it's hard to get all the accurate information- Yeah ... out there. And then finally when we're like, "Okay, here's... [00:05:00] got everything ready, so now we can start kind of pushing all that out to everybody." But yeah, so tonight's the movie, and that will start at 8:00 PM.

Okay. So, um, we have to start the movie at dusk. It has to be dark. So, um, that is the kind of a later, later night tonight. And then tomorrow night for the concert, we're gonna kick off at 4:45, and that will open up with just an opening ceremony. We have our Camp Pendleton Young Marines coming- That's cool

and they will be doing an honor guard, present the flags. We'll have someone sing the national anthem. And then we have a wonderful guest speaker named John Black, which I'm really excited about. He's just gonna give a few opening remar- remarks. He's a retired veteran, and he works, um, with veterans now.

And, um, he is gonna just do a quick little opening, and then we will kick off with the James Kelly Band at 5:00. And then they will play their set, and then 6:30, we'll have Sega Genocide out there. And both bands are so fun. The James Kelly Band is kind of classic country. Um, they are kind of in San Juan [00:06:00] space a little bit.

They play a lot at the Swallows Day Parade, and, and they are a lot of fun. And then Sega Genocide's been, actually played for us, um, in the past as well, and they are kind of everything '90s, 2000s. That's fun. They just bring such fun energy, and I'm really excited to have

Speaker 3: them perform. That'll be cool. So if you are not getting the VIP package-

Speaker 2: Yes

Speaker 3: when, like, when should we set up chairs? Like, what's that process like? Are you just faith that- That's a

Speaker 2: great

Speaker 3: question ...

Speaker 2: your stuff's not gonna get jacked, or? Yes, faith that your stuff's not gonna get jacked. That is... No. That's- But, uh, for our, for our beach concerts, generally people start coming really early to set up.

Yeah. They'll ca- they'll set up as early as, like, 6:00 AM up at Parque Del Mar or on the beach. So what we have done down there, if you do go down to the beach right now, you'll kind of see a footprint that we have set aside. So hey, you can't set up your, your chairs or blankets in this area, 'cause that's gonna be- So you can't, you can't

Speaker 3: go down there and set up.

Yes. But

Speaker 2: behind that, you can totally set up behind that. So there's a... It's marked. So you can go right, you can go right-

Speaker: Right behind the roped off area.

Speaker 2: Yes, right behind [00:07:00] there, and- So,

Speaker: so I can.

Speaker 3: Oh, you just gotta go- You can,

Speaker 2: yes ...

Speaker 3: just go to Linda Lane.

Speaker: Exactly.

Speaker 3: That's where you need to be tonight. Okay, cool. So then we got the concerts.

Speaker 2: Um- Yeah, so the concert, and I'll say really fast that there's also the $25 VIP ticket for that concert. Oh, cool. Both. The, the parking package, um, is specifically for the concert, and that gets you a parking space in the upper Pureball parking lot and two VIP tickets, and that's- And that's

Speaker: $25?

Speaker 2: The... No, sorry.

The parking package is $75. Okay. Just the regular concert ticket is $25, so-

Speaker: Gotcha ...

Speaker 2: that doesn't include parking. Um, however, if you wanna come and park and have your two tickets, roll right up, um, that

Speaker 3: parking package- Chairs also- ...

Speaker 2: is what you want. Chairs included in that, too. Yes.

Speaker 3: Cool. Cool. And that's parking in the lot just right above, right above the, the tracks right there.

Speaker 2: Yeah. So there's the Pureball, the full Pureball parking lot, and I think it's Alameda Lane that runs in between. The, the specific VIP parking area is in the upper lot-

Speaker 3: Gotcha ...

Speaker 2: and,

Speaker 3: um, yes. Cool. Sweet. Right on. Yeah. And then fireworks. What's, um- Fireworks starts at 9:00

Speaker 2: PM.

Speaker 3: [00:08:00] 9:00

Speaker 2: PM

Speaker 3: fireworks. On

Speaker 2: the pier. Yes.

Speaker 3: There's no... Is there any, like, roped-off VIP section for fireworks?

Speaker 2: No, not for the 4th. Okay. The, um, the fireworks show, we, um... Yeah, the beach is open. A lot of people come and set up on the beach, um, pretty early on the 4th of July as well, but- Okay ... um, but nothing, no VIP situation for the fireworks.

Speaker 3: Where do you watch the fireworks?

Speaker 2: Oh, great question. Um- Like, do

Speaker 3: you have to be down there, like, coordinating

Speaker 2: or- Last, the last two years when we've had events on the 4th, I have been so dead that I think I fell asleep before the fireworks show started. Um,

Speaker: so I really- I have fallen asl- Yeah. Yeah. I, I too have fallen asleep before the fireworks from working so hard.

Speaker 3: Where do you watch?

Speaker: The last couple years at friend's house.

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Speaker: Yeah, at friend's house. Like

Speaker 3: bluff, bluff-type houses or- And we watched, um, we went to upper campus, and like, it's like right above the freeway, and [00:09:00] you got San Clemente. You see Dana Point. You can catch some of Mission Viejo, and you see like, even if it's really clear, you can catch, uh, Catalinas.

That

Speaker 2: is so cool.

Speaker 3: It's pretty sweet.

Speaker: So I will say this holiday, 4th of July, may be my favorite

Speaker 2: holiday. It is so fun.

Speaker: It's beautiful weather. People are excited. The sound of fireworks. Actually, w- we'll probably start hearing them tonight. I don't know. For sure. At least in the years past. Again, a good and bad thing.

Should people be lighting them off? I don't know. We'll leave that off the table for now. Yeah. But it's just fun.

Speaker 3: Just be careful.

Speaker 2: Well, night of the 4th- Just

Speaker: be careful. Yeah ...

Speaker 2: the professionals do a great job with our firework show at the end of the pier, and I totally agree. I feel like the energy in San Clemente around the 4th of July is one of my favorites.

It's so fun. Yeah. People decorating their golf carts, and it just... M- I feel, my, my family lives in San Clemente, and my parents, I feel like decorate as much for 4th of July as they do for Christmas. For

Speaker 3: sure.

Speaker 2: It's-

Speaker: Totally ... a

Speaker 2: whole thing.

Speaker: And all the parades around town, in the different communities. It's so much fun.

Speaker 2: It's a lot of fun around here for the 4th, for sure.

Speaker: People do it, yeah, yeah, they're passionate about the 4th of July here in San Clemente, as they should be. It's a beach town [00:10:00] and a beach community, and the city does an outstanding job at putting on these great events.

Speaker 2: Well, it's a lot of fun for us too, and I am excited for this year, 'cause it's the 250th celebration.

Yes. So that's why we did kinda wanna do something different. We have our events leading up to the 4th. Yep. And, um, yeah, we're excited about it.

Speaker: I love it. Movies, concerts, 4th of July.

Speaker 2: Yes. Everything America. What more

Speaker: could you ask for?

Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. I, um, I- I'll give you guys a little tidbit of my last couple days, but I have my staff making an American flag out of bandanas for the stage- Nice

backdrop. So we've been tying little knots. Nice. And we're, um- That's gonna

Speaker 3: be

Speaker 2: cool ... we're excited. Little

Speaker 3: detail.

Speaker 2: Yeah.

Speaker 3: That's awesome. No, you guys do a really good job of providing Like, just a fun atmosphere for everyone to go experience. Um, are there any, like, logistics that you would like to make public?

Like, "Hey, these are gonna- these roads are gonna be closed at this..." You know, I don't, I don't know if that's-

Speaker 2: Absolutely. So for the 3rd of July for the concert, we have that [00:11:00] upper Pier B parking lot. That will s- that will be specifically for VIP parking, but it only opens at 3:00. So, um, if you have a VIP ticket, don't park your car there before 3:00, because we will be clearing the lot beforehand.

And in general, all of the parking, um, is already posted. So if, if you're seeing no parking signs, hey, you know, read the sign and, and see if it's no parking between 12 to 6 PM or whatever it is, just make sure that you're moving your car before then. So that's all currently posted out there. Um, so just really pay attention to the signage.

Specifically in the Pier B area, we will be designating a rideshare location. So that's where Ubers, Lyfts can drop off. If you're just dropping off passengers, that is another area we can drop off. And it will be right when you're passing by the Pier B parking lot on the right-hand side, and you'll see yellow signs that say rideshare drop-off.

Cool. And no unattended vehicles there, so you can't get out of your car and leave it there. But you can feel free to drop people off, and if you [00:12:00] have- if you happen to be able to communicate with your Uber or Lyft driver, you can kind of tell them that too, you know, "Here's our, the- Yep ... the rideshare drop-off."

Speaker: Parking in general, I think, during this time of year is tough in San Clemente. 4th of July, really hard. But what about the trolleys? Are they running?

Speaker 2: Trolley is 100% running, and I absolutely recommend it. We actually have more trolleys running on the 4th of July than we normally do. So we'll increase that trolley service, and the red line is what you wanna take to get to the pier.

So you can actually park at the outlets. You can park somewhere where there is a little- Sure ... bit more parking, jump on the trolley, and take that down. That's a great way to get to any of the events or just to the beach on, um, 4th of

Speaker: July. This is great information, by the way. So parking really should be a non-issue with all- Right

with Uber and the trolley- Absolutely ... and parking at the outlets, so people... Or ride your bike or walk. And I think a lot of- Biking is

Speaker 2: great ...

Speaker: biking

Speaker 2: is great. And we better-- We are so lucky to have the beach trail too- Yes ... because you can park somewhere else in town, take the beach trail. That's so easy. And then, um, bike parking as well.

We will have bike parking specifically at [00:13:00] this event, too. We'll have our normal, obviously, areas to park your bikes. That, that new, um, bike rack down there at the end of the pier, that's a great spot for bikes. And then we'll also have increased bike parking, um, in sort of the side of that upper Peel, Pier B parking lot.

There'll be another area to park bikes up there.

Speaker 3: Sweet. That's great info Is there any road closures and stuff going on down there?

Speaker 2: No, just Alameda Lane that runs next to the, um-

Speaker 3: In between the parking lots?

Speaker 2: Yes. Okay. So that will be an area that's closed, but

Speaker 3: not- Not really ...

Speaker 2: not really on the 3rd. Um, on the 4th of July, we do have some road closures for kind of that exiting, um, after the fireworks.

Pedestrians- Sure ... leaving the area is a big problem, so you'll probably see some OCSD and, um, our maintenance crew- Yeah ... down there with, um, kinda helping with traffic flow and everything.

Speaker 3: Plan a ride Don't be stupid. It's crazy, the people there. Just be, be helpful.

Speaker 2: Yes.

Speaker 3: Right?

Speaker 2: Like- And take your time. I mean, I think the, you know- Let your

Speaker 3: [00:14:00] mind

Speaker 2: down

let, live your, give, give yourself a little bit more time to get to where you need to go. And, um, you know, I think when people are start rushing around- For sure ... that's when it, that's when it gets a little scary.

Speaker 3: Yeah. There's a lot of golf carts and e-bikes and it's dark. That, that's what worries me.

Speaker 2: Yes.

Speaker: Having kids that

Speaker 3: ride bikes- Yeah, I like to be, I like to be where I'm gonna be-

Speaker: By a certain time ... in five years. For sure. Absolutely.

Speaker 2: Recommended. Yeah.

Speaker: Where do you watch them? Are, did you say from your house? Or- Yeah. Oh, you,

Speaker 3: yeah. We'll walk down. Yeah. We'll go to the upper campus. Um, we can see them from my parents' house.

We've got a good family friend, um, the Federles, that live right on Los Windes, which is a very fun house.

Speaker 2: That's where my parents are too. Yeah. And they do have a neighbor that I think we'll probably jump up on her upstairs- Yeah ... balcony and see if we can see.

Speaker 3: It's pretty sweet, especially when it's clear, like being right in...

Like, it is bitching to be that close, like to be a T shooter at the pier, like to, to be that close, I think it's like that like classic Americana, like just that vibe.

Speaker: Mm-hmm.

Speaker 3: Um, but I like to be safe and-

Speaker: Yeah. [00:15:00]

Speaker 3: Who knows? When the kids were little, like the little guys would always fall asleep, and then, you know, it's nice to be, to be close to home, so.

Yes. Totally. Love that. 4th of July. I think everybody's kind of got their

Speaker: thing, you know? Yep. Yep. That's why I know. 4th of July. Yeah. Like I said, it's the best holiday of all time. And the weather's just been terrible too. Yeah. Oh, I'm sure. No. It's been s- uh-

Speaker 2: Rough down here. Uh- So, so ... I

Speaker: don't know how we do it.

I seriously think it's been one of the nicest Junes. I don't recall any June gloom really that we've had.

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Speaker: It is. It's been so nice.

Speaker 3: Well, they talk about this super El Niño. Uh,

Speaker: yeah, warm water. I think the, right, the water temp is like 68. The waves have been- Waves been amazing. Yeah.

Speaker 3: Yeah. I

Speaker 2: know we were down there setting up the other day and some of the junior lifeguard kids were getting out of the water, and we were like, "It's

Speaker 3: so weird."

Yeah.

Speaker 2: Like, it is. That's so funny.

Speaker 3: So nice.

Speaker: Yeah. Just- Junior lifeguards too. Yeah ...

Speaker 3: is there anything else, 4th of July weekend, Stars and Stripes? Um, I know I wanted to make a little plug on it.

Speaker 2: Yes, please.

Speaker 3: The Friends of San Clemente-

Speaker 2: Yes ...

Speaker 3: were big contributors- Absolutely ... to making this event happen. Um, I know [00:16:00] Sam and Rick and some, part of the team, they're down at the food hall right now doing like a grand opening.

Um, but I kinda wanted to just shout out the, the Friends of San Clemente team. They've... We just had our golf tournament and it was great. We had a great showing. We made a ton of money. Um, just a big thanks to the community for supporting because it makes us able to go support these things. So it really is a full circle, um, foundation and- A lot of events that come through the city.

You guys do all the work, but it's nice to be able to, like, support that a little bit. Absolutely. Um, so I kinda wanted just a quick little shout-out for- And I

Speaker: just wanna double back on that too for people to understand the importance of supporting the organizations like the Friends- For sure ... of San Clemente so you then in can turn and help donate and make things like this happen.

Speaker 3: Exactly. Okay. So, like, for things like this, the Friends, it's, it's, we're kind of a behind-the-scenes. We don't really do a lot for the, for the shout-out thing. But if you like the trolley system, if you like the [00:17:00] carnival, um, if you like the snow at Snow Hill, Putting on the Glitz, we support the Halloween run, the S- uh, pretty much every event that the city does, um, the Sports Wall of Fame We have support in it from the Friends.

So- Yep ... if you're looking for a foundation to support, um, come play in the golf tournament, donate, whatever it is, come volunteer.

Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yes.

Speaker 3: So-

Speaker 2: We would not be able to do our events- Yeah ... without the support from the Friends. And- And it's

Speaker 3: great ...

Speaker 2: it has been so special.

Speaker 3: Everybody benefits from it. Yes.

Right?

Speaker: It's, yeah, one of the, one of the many reasons we love doing this podcast is- Yeah ... because we wanna push that content out. How many times in the community are you out and about and people, they just don't know about- For sure ... so many things- Yeah ... happening in and around San Clemente. Absolutely. So Brian and I, we feel like it's our job to get the word out and get the people support and- Yeah

inform the community of all the amazing things that San Clemente has to offer.

Speaker 2: Yes. Well, thank you for your service. Yes. I appreciate it.

Speaker: Brian, thank you for your service. Yes.

Speaker 3: Yeah. We just get to hang out, don't we? [00:18:00]

Speaker: Talk with cool people. But kicking back to you a little bit, what and when did you join the Beaches, Parks and Rec in San Clemente?

Speaker 2: Just a little over two years ago. So, um, I was telling Brian a little bit earlier, I grew up in Trabuco Canyon. So I grew up in Southern California. I left when I was 18 for college, and I was gone for about 10 years. I, I went to Cal Poly up in San Luis Obispo for a couple years after I graduated. I

Speaker: had a feeling she was gonna say that.

My wife graduated from Cal Poly- Yeah ... San Luis Obispo. My two nieces just graduated. Great school. Love Cal Poly. Amazing coast. Oh my gosh. Yes.

Speaker 2: I know. All of my, so many of my cousins went to Cal Poly, my little sister, so we are a big Cal Poly family. But-

Speaker: Which by the way, very hard to get into as well. Yes.

So-

Speaker 2: But a hack-

Speaker: So you- ...

Speaker 2: if you study recreation ...

Speaker: rec ...

Speaker 2: recreation- There you go ... I'll tell you what. I think now it's called something different. It's called Experience Industry Management. They changed it a little bit, but-

Speaker: But there you go. Congratulations If you're watching this podcast and are trying to get into Cal Poly- Yes

now you know.

Speaker 2: You've got the, you've got a little inside scoop. Thanks to,

Speaker: thanks to Julia.

Speaker 2: Yes. So thank you. But I, [00:19:00] I will say, um, recreation was such a fun thing to study at Cal Poly because there is just so much also going on in San Luis Obispo, and it's such a cool city. And so, um, we got to be really involved in the community during, during that time.

And then I also worked for a city in Northern California in their Parks and Rec department, um, for about three and a half years. And then, um, I got my master's, and it was during COVID time and all online, and life was kind of just up in the air. And so I ended up moving up to Idaho. My grandparents are up in Sun Valley, Idaho area, and I lived there for, um, just a little under four years, um- And did my masters.

I, uh, worked as a therapeutic riding instructor, therapeutic horseback riding instructor and adaptive snowboard instructor there, and had a blast Is that cool? Um, but was kinda looking to get back toward family, and so I started peeking around at, um, San Clemente again. And my, my parents had moved from Chico Canyon to San Clemente, um, probably about seven or eight years ago.

Speaker: Okay.

Speaker 2: And [00:20:00] so, um, I, I told them, I was like, "I wanna move h- move home if I can, like, be in San Clemente, but I don't wanna be you know, in San Diego or, you know, North Orange County." Just d- that didn't really appeal to me. So, um, this job popped up and I was so excited. And, um, I did an interview with, um, my director, Samantha Wiley, and I-- she is such an incredible person to work for.

It has been such a, such a blessing. So I feel really grateful to get to do what I do.

Speaker: I'm sure the two of you guys hit it off right away from day one.

Speaker 2: We have a lot of fun. We do. It's, um, yeah, it is-- I feel like it's rare t- also to have a young female director that is just high energy and exciting. I think sometimes in the parks and rec world, you get people that have been in the position for a while and maybe are a little, um, a little jaded, and that is, that's not the vibe for, for us, which is-- I'm really grateful for.

Speaker: And that's a hard job. What you guys deal with on a day-to-day basis, the amount of moving parts in a city like San Clemente, there's a lot going on there.

Speaker 2: There's a lot going on. [00:21:00] Yeah. We actually, I think our, our event count is we do about 26 events a year.

Speaker: Wow.

Speaker 2: And, um, Naomi, who is our event coordinator, she does such an incredible job with our city events.

She, um, has really breathed a lot of life into some of our, like, youth programming at events and, um, just really making it accessible to all ages, and it's been so much fun. So...

Speaker 3: Sam's got a-- Samantha has a ton of really fun ideas that we've talked about over the years that I hope, like, I would like to be involved in.

Hopefully, this podcast can turn into something that can I don't know, like h- help host these events and-

Speaker 2: Yeah ...

Speaker 3: like there's one Sam talked about doing something on Del Mar that I'm just like, "We gotta, we gotta do this." Like- ... it'd be so fun. I know that everybody would come out and do it. Yes. But- For

Speaker: sure, and I think, yeah

Speaker 3: the, the bandwidth is, is the challenge, right?

Speaker: Totally. But I think we can use this podcast at least as a platform-

Speaker 3: For sure ...

Speaker: to continue to push out what's happening in and around San Clemente, and give people a behind-the-scenes look-

Speaker 3: Yeah ...

Speaker: on how it's done, when it's happening, [00:22:00] what to prepare for- Absolutely

et cetera, et cetera. For

Speaker 3: sure.

Speaker 2: It's fun. And we do ... I, I will say, uh, as I've worked in this industry for a little while, San Clemente is such a fun city to work for 'cause people show up, which is ... It- nothing is worse than when you plan an event and you're like, "Ugh, there's only, like, a few people here." But- Right

um, I feel like when we put something out there, the community really comes and represents.

Speaker: It's probably the opposite of like, "Oh my gosh, we're gonna have too many people- Like, too many ... show up." Yeah.

Speaker 2: Cleanup, and everyone's like, "What's going on?"

Speaker: We're like-

Speaker 2: Yeah ... "It's just museum." No. Um, but it is. It's a fun city to work for that way, for sure.

Speaker: Awesome. Awesome.

Speaker 3: Anything else on this weekend that we wanna hit?

Speaker 2: I think that's it. I feel, I feel pretty good. Yeah. You guys have any other questions for me?

Speaker 3: No. I think we got out all the good, the good info. Um-

Speaker 2: Okay

Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we can kinda roll into the, the rest of the summer. Like, what's on the-

Speaker 2: Yeah

Speaker 3: what's on the agenda for the rest of the summer f- from a city standpoint? Right. And, like, just getting some of that good, real information out to the, to all the listeners out there.

Speaker 2: Absolutely. So our, um, [00:23:00] this is our, obviously, 4th of July, um, or the concert on the 3rd of July is our kind of beach concert as well, but our beach concert series kicks off right, um, next week.

So July 9th we have our, um, first beach concert, and that will be at Linda Lane Park. And following that, all of July, every Thursday in July there will be a beach concert at 6:00 PM, and the first one is at Linda Lane and the ones after that are at the pier. So, um, here we have... I'll rattle them off really fast.

July 9th we've got Wigs N Ties at Linda Lane Park. Um, July 16th we've got Night Rider at the, at the pier. And then July 23rd we are, have the, the Backdraft Fireman Band. It's a, that's a fun band of all former firefighters.

Speaker: And- Again, one of my favorite movies, Backdraft. Unbelievable. Sorry.

Speaker 2: Um, and then we've got Pistol Blonde on July 30th, and, um, that's also at the pier.

And Common Sense closing out the show on August 13th. And right actually in between there, um- Yeah ... we are skipping a Thursday, which [00:24:00] is August 6th, and that is when we're hosting Island Nights at the Olyphant

Speaker 3: Beach Club. Ooh. Oh, cool.

Speaker 2: So, um, we just had our, an Island Nights event at the end of June here, and, um, it was so fun.

We sold out. Um, it's a really fun all kind of family event. The, the pool's open. We have the inflatables out in the pool. There's a usually live music and, um, food at the Olyphant Beach Club. And, um- Cool.

Speaker 3: Mark it August 6th.

Speaker 2: Yes. August 6th is, um, Island Nights, and then all the other Thursdays until August 13th-

Speaker: And then same thing.

If someone, if someone wants to go to an Island Nights, they go to san clemente.org. You

Speaker 2: book- San clemente.gov/register .gov.

Speaker: Yep.

Speaker 2: And that is, yeah, you do have to register for Island Nights. Um, however, the beach concerts are free, so come on down. Um, feel free to set up your, set up your blankets and chairs and, um-

Speaker: Let's go to the Island Nights together.

So- Do they have floaties in the pool too?

Speaker 2: They are. The pool is open for you. They have a, they have the big inflatables, so you can, like, do the little slides and stuff. There's little obstacle courses. Is there

Speaker: room for two boys?

Speaker 3: That's all, like, my digestion right now. After dinner Island Nights. I don't know, but- My friend's like, "Gosh dang it.

[00:25:00] Look at this idiot." "This dummy over here trying to be a kid." Chris

Speaker: Butler would just be shaking his

Speaker 3: head.

Speaker: He's like, "Look at these two dummies."

Speaker 2: Yes. Another of-

Speaker 3: But yes, let's go.

Speaker: Let's

Speaker 2: go. San Clemente supports those. San Clemente al- San Cle- Friends of San Clemente also supports our other nights of events.

Speaker 3: Do any of these bands stand out to you?

Like, I know they're all gonna be fun. Um-

Speaker 2: Yes, they will all be fun. Um, I am really excited for Night Rider. Yeah. They're, like, a classic '80s band. Sure. And I think they are also super high energy. Um, and-

Speaker 3: Wigs N Ties I know are a bunch of local guys that were in Ken's grade Yes. Um-

Speaker 2: They are-

Speaker 3: And they, like, they're super high energy

Speaker: Put on a great show

Speaker 3: So- Entertaining Yeah.

Speaker 2: And it is fun to have it th- you know, they're, they're local San Clemente, too, so all their families and kids are Yeah ... so great. Oh,

Speaker: yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 3: And are all these guys lo- I know Wigs N Ties are local. Are the other guys local band? Like, do

Speaker 2: they- Not necessarily. We, um, we do sometimes a- we're, we are able to have local bands sometimes, but, um, but I don't think that all of them are local this [00:26:00] year necessarily.

We have, uh, I believe Pistol Blonde also is, like, San Juan area. Yeah. They kind of play in that area.

Speaker: Are they, are they serving food on these nights?

Speaker 2: Yes, Fisherman's Restaurant- Okay ... does serve food. So our Linda Lane show, we have food trucks. We usually bring in food trucks for that event into the Linda Lane parking lot.

And then our beach concerts, Fisherman's has a barbecue plate option that they will have available, um, on the sand so you don't have to go up to the restaurant. Cool. Obviously it'll be down there. And they are also going to be at our, um, movie and concert.

Speaker: Amazing.

Speaker 2: I think

Speaker: the Doing the same thing. Yeah.

The barbecue layout, that spread.

Speaker 2: Yes. Yeah. Wow. It'll be fun.

Speaker: I know where we're going tonight 100% for sure.

Speaker 3: Yeah. It'll be fun. I think these are the best. You go down there and it's, like, such a good vibe and everyone's just hanging out, having a good time. There's no stress. There's no nothing. And kids are playing soccer on the beach.

I think the tides are kind of low in the afternoon.

Speaker 2: Yes.

Speaker 3: Just giving more sand, right? Yeah. And it's just such a fun environment. You know, you kind of walk... Uh, in my- I- I always joke, like, if [00:27:00] you were to stumble upon San Clemente randomly- Mm-hmm ... you park kind of far away. You walk around the corner and up by Beachcomber and you look down and you see this concert going on and this sunset, and you're like, "What the hell is going on?

This is perfect." With

Speaker: the pier in the background.

Speaker 3: It's just like- Like they

Speaker 2: planned it.

Speaker 3: Exactly. Well, someone did.

Speaker: It's almost like they fabricated it perfectly. Yeah. But we've all traveled to pretty rad destinations. Yeah. We've all been blessed to, I think, live a pretty great life. And your, to your point, if someone were to be on vacation and stumble upon this- For sure.

Like, oh, we just- ... I think their jaw would hit the floor. Yeah. And would be like, "Oh, my gosh. Where are we?" It's a lot of

Speaker 2: fun. It is a lot of fun. And I, I really love that our beach concerts are free. It's just, it's fun to be able to welcome people and- Yeah ... you know, not have the big, "You have to get your ticket.

You have to do this." It's just, you know-

Speaker: Come on down ... come on

Speaker 2: down Have a

Speaker: great time.

Speaker 2: Yes. That's great.

Speaker 3: Yeah, so we just, we just knocked out summer s- concerts

Speaker 2: Summer concerts. Our final little, uh, that we kind of include in our summer concerts is our Sunset Symphony happens at the Ole Hanson Beach Club as well.

So, um, that will [00:28:00] be on August 27th, and we have the Pacific Symphony coming in. They set up right in front of the beach, um, the beach club there, and it's bring your chairs. It's

Speaker 3: the full symphony? Full

Speaker 2: symphony.

Speaker 3: Oh, that's cool. Yeah.

Speaker 2: It's a beautiful event. I feel like

Speaker 3: you- Is that in the grass in the front?

Speaker 2: Um, you set up and people sit in the grass in the front, and then the symphony actually almost brings in, like, a trailer stage- Oh, cool ... that pulls into the, um, kind of on end of the cul-de-sac there. Okay. And, um,

Speaker 3: yeah.

Speaker 2: That's cool. Another,

Speaker 3: another good time

Speaker 2: to be at the beach for some music

Speaker 3: I love it. That's a lot of- there's so much good information.

I mean, th- these are a lot of events, right?

Speaker 2: Events.

Speaker 3: There's a lot of things to do, put them on the calendar. Um, you guys just kill it and have such a good time. Um, we good on time? Yep. Yeah. Cool. Um, what else?

Speaker: I don't think people realize the logistics and coordination and operation backend to what goes in- Right

to putting on a single event. Yeah. It's very hard.

Speaker 2: Yeah. I was just joking with Samantha, [00:29:00] I hear sometimes, um, I guess in, in, you know, different jobs and, you know, somebody will say, "That event practically runs itself." And I always think to myself- ... "It definitely doesn't. It runs itself because somebody's behind the scenes making it all happen and not probably taking much credit for it."

So,

Speaker: um- Right. It always, it always makes me so mad when I hear people talking about the city of San Clemente in a negative way when we know for a fact... And again, I- you can't blame them because maybe they just don't know what- Right ... you guys do and what the city does and how much work they have on their plate and all these fun events.

So hopefully we can help change- Yeah ... the perception of the community to get everyone positive. Yes. Although I don't know if that's possible. We, uh, we try to- You can't win them. We- You can't win them all. But, but it's a goal, for sure. Yeah. 70% of the people, I think if we can win over and get them on board with the city, 'cause again, you guys do an, a fantastic job.

Speaker 2: Well, that's really kind of you. We see it

Speaker: firsthand.

Speaker 2: And I do think that we, we do love hearing feedback and we love hearing what, you know, the community wants. And I, um, you know, [00:30:00] that's, I feel like that's why we're here. We're looking to, to put on events and programs that the community wants to see and that they'll, um, enjoy.

And so I, I feel like there's times when, um, it, it feels really good. That's my favorite thing in my job, when you feel like you kind of nail it and you're like, "Wow, this worked out so good," and there's like this, you know, people are really excited about this. And that is, that's really fun. And I do, I, I feel like, um, I'm really proud of the events that we do.

I really love, um, all of the, all the events that San Clemente's able to, able to put on and that we get to do as a city.

Speaker: And it's very good that you guys are open to feedback and constructive criticism, and it goes to you and Samantha and the leadership of... And to your original point about not having someone in that role that is maybe a little bit jaded, been there for- Right

40 years. Right. You know, sick and tired of every request or feedback or anything. So-

Speaker 2: Yeah. And questions are always helpful too. I always, you know, I always encourage people to ask questions. 'Cause sometimes, you're right, when people are upset, it's sometimes just they don't have the whole story or they don't know, you know, maybe what's going on behind the scenes.

And so when they, when they ask, it's always like, [00:31:00] "Totally, we can share that with you." And, um, and so- What's the

Speaker 3: best way to go about that? Like, we talk about community engagement, like-

Speaker 2: Yeah ...

Speaker 3: what is the correct or proper easiest avenue for someone to give a suggestion or voice an opinion? Like-

Speaker 2: Yeah. You can- I always welcome emails.

I, um, we have a general email, recreation@san-clemente.org, and if you email that email, they'll kind of shoot it off to whoever is responsible for that program or event. So if you have a question or some feedback about something and it's an event, you know- Gotcha ... they'll, they'll shoot it over to me. If it's about, you know, one of our classes that our, you know, my, our other supervisor oversees, they'll send it to her.

So it's, um, yeah, that's always kind of a helpful way to get, get your information to, you know, the general email and then they'll give it to the, to the right person that's, um, responsible for that.

Speaker 3: Cool. What about like, "Hey, I would love to help-" Hand out beach chairs at the VIP section. How do, what, what would the volunteer side of community engagement be- Yes

look like with the city? [00:32:00]

Speaker 2: Yeah. Thanks for asking that. We, um, have certain events where we have some volunteer, um, kinda operations in place. Monster Dash is one of them. So you can actually sign up online to volunteer for the event. Cool. And that is also on our online registration side. You can... You'll probably see it when you go in to register for Monster Dash.

You'll see that there's a, you know, you can sign up as a volunteer, and, um, we do, we... There's certain events where it's so helpful to have volunteers. We've had a great volunteer team at our Springtacular event. We have a great volunteer team at Santa's Village, where the snow hill that you're talking about- Yeah

was so fun. Um, and yeah, so there's certain events where we kinda have that system in place, and, um, there's certain events where we don't really have volunteers, mostly because either it's that we, you know, the first time we're doing it, we don't really have, you know, a, a good option for- Sure ... a, a job posting.

Complicates

Speaker 3: things a little

Speaker 2: bit. Yes. Yeah. But, um, or we just have, you know, it, some, sometimes there's, um, yeah, sometimes there's things that we, uh, a need opens up, and then we're, um, if, if we have a group of people that we know can volunteer, it's good to know.

Speaker: So [00:33:00] let's... Yeah. So I know we've talked a lot about- Yeah

about a lot of things. Let's go back through- Okay ... the best places for people to find more information about in general and about everything else we've talked about too. So-

Speaker 2: So- Yes ...

Speaker: just kinda go through the websites for where- Got it ... people can go- Okay ... to get information.

Speaker 2: Absolutely. So our, actually, sanclemente.gov is our city website.

If you go sanclemente.gov/events, each event has its own page. So you can click on the event that you're looking for, and that also has... That, that's a good, that's a good point to go to, and that'll kinda direct you from, from there where to go. We'll have on the event page, if there's a sponsorship opportunity available and your business wants to sponsor an event, there's a link to the sponsorship packet.

If there is a link to sign up to volunteer, there'll be a, there'll be a link there on the event page, and then that will take you over to our registration system where you can register as a volunteer. But that event page is the best place to go for each event specifically. So, um, we have our events for, um, the year [00:34:00] usually all in on the calendar already.

So- Cool ... um, so, and all of our sponsorship opportunities will be linked to that specific event that's available, and volunteer opportunities as well.

Speaker: Ex- excellent. Excellent. And then inquiries, if someone has a question or, or wants to get involved.

Speaker 2: Send us an email. Yeah.

Speaker: Send an email directly to-

Speaker 2: Give us, give us

Speaker: a call at the community center

Speaker 2: number

okay. Yeah. We're, um, we're always, we're, we're open and, um, and yeah, we're taking-

Speaker: Open for business ...

Speaker 2: open for business.

Speaker: 24/7?

Speaker 2: Not 24/7.

Speaker: Close to

Speaker 2: it. Close to it. No. Our, um, our community center is open, um, Monday through Thursday and every other Friday, and then our aquatic center is open seven days a week. And so, um, you can usually find somebody to, to talk to about our programs and events, either at the community center or the aquatic center.

Love it.

Speaker 3: I love it. Let's, um, let's finish in this little world. How about, like, the future of San Clemente B- Beaches, Parks, and Rec? What are some like maybe everyone doesn't know it's happening yet, or like a little sneak peek of a [00:35:00] park renovation or something. Um- Ooh ... is there anything you can kinda give us that Sa- Samantha wouldn't be too u- too upset about?

Speaker: Exactly. I don't know. We gotta be... Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We gotta be careful here, though, so.

Speaker 2: I know. No, we, um... I don't know if we have anything too crazy on the horizon as far as like parks or anything like that. We, um... I guess what I, what I will say that is a little new for us recently is we have started a whole new slew of active aging programs, which have been really fun.

Speaker 3: Yeah.

Speaker 2: And they're kinda geared more toward our 55 and up, um, population- Cool ... which is a large population in San Clemente. And we started hosting a bocce ball league at San Luis Rey Park-

Speaker 3: That's

Speaker 2: fun ... which has been a lot of fun. And, um, that is gonna be kicking off again in the fall. We just started that one this past year, and it's gained quite a bit of traction.

We've had almost 48 players, bocce ball players, playing out of San Luis Rey, so that's been a lot of fun. That's

Speaker: really fun. A bocce ball league. Yes. How fun is that? A lot of fun. What about girls flag [00:36:00] football?

Speaker 2: Girls flag is also what we're starting in the fall. So our Friday night flag football league has been going on for a while, and it's always been co-ed.

Um, but because the girls flag community has just really grown recently, um, we started to kinda move toward what if we had our own girls league in our flag football league to, um, it's a, you know, it's a high school sport, so we can kinda prepare those girls- Sure ... for high school. And, um, so we're really excited to be hosting girls flag football in our Friday night football league this fall for the first time.

Yeah. And, um-

Speaker 3: I know that a fa- lot of families are excited about that. Um, when you have daughters and sons If you wanted your daughter to playing in all girls, you were going up to Leinart or whatever, so-

Speaker 2: Right ...

Speaker 3: for these families to be able to stay in town, I think it's a no-brainer. I think that, um, you'll have a lot of demand, 'cause there's a ton of girls that are, like, all about it.

It's so fun. I love it. And who would,

Speaker: who would've ever thought that all, like, [00:37:00] females, girls, flag football, playing the sport?

Speaker 3: Oh

Speaker: my God. I love it. I think it's- Me too ... incredible,

Speaker 3: but- Well, I talked to, I talked to, I'm sure Trish Kenz was like, "I wish I had this in high school." For sure. My wife played soccer.

Speaker 2: Yes.

Speaker 3: And she was like, "Our, my whole... We would've all played."

Speaker: Yep.

Speaker 3: Like, and they would've probably been really good at it.

Speaker: And it just wasn't around- No ... or there wasn't enough demand, or maybe it was or, and maybe- No, I think- ... maybe there was demand, but we didn't have the infrastructure or the people behind it- Yes

behind the scenes to put it together.

Speaker 2: It's a great, it's a great sport. And we, um, yeah, sometimes our girls are fast too. Yeah. We have our, our, when our, um, skills assessment happens, the girls are quick. Yes. And they're, they're ... I don't know. It's really fun to watch them. But, um, but yeah, they, we actually, this summer we hosted a full girls flag camp, um, and we called it the Fearless Flag Football Camp.

So it's, like, running routes and making bracelets- Yeah ... Taylor Swift themed. Yeah. So it's, it's super fun. But, um, that is a great spot for if you have a daughter that has never played before too, and they just wanna try it or something, see if they wanna sign up. We're hosting another, [00:38:00] um, girls flag camp in August.

So, um, it went really well. We had about 35 girls out. They were so much fun. And so, um, so we're hosting another girls flag camp. So if it's something that anybody wants to try before they sign up for the league, that's a great option.

Speaker: So much fun. Just going back to the bocce ball in San Luis or San Luis Rey.

We have a lot of great parks in- For sure ... and around town. San Luis Rey being one of them. My wife and I, we walk by it a few times a week, walk the state park, and you just see people out having picnics, lunches, birthday parties. Yeah. And you really, yeah, you realize how, how lucky we are to have these parks.

We do. San Gregornio I think is Brian's, one of Brian's favorite parks.

Speaker 3: Yeah. San Gregornio. All of them. I love San T. The views. You're looking over the beach. It's, it's gorgeous. Um- And that's a little bit some of the bigger kids, 'cause you can go play basketball, you can go play baseball- Yeah ... you can like...

And then you have Courtney Sandcastle, which is super accessible for everybody.

Speaker: Absolutely.

Speaker 3: Um, there's just a park for everybody. Uh, and my kids are kind of out of the park world, but like we [00:39:00] spent so much time when they were in that age, like th- that was your-

Speaker: A decade

Speaker 3: probably. Yeah. That was your community.

That was your place you hung out, and that's where you made friends, and like- Yeah ... "Oh, I'm not crazy. My kid- your kid's doing that, too? Okay, sweet." Yeah. So.

Speaker 2: It is fun to see. And it- I know Linda Lane Park is another one of my favorites. Linda Lane. I feel like we just- Yeah, cool ... have families at Linda Lane all the time.

And we do. We're really lucky to have a really great park system in San Clemente. And I, I feel like we're really widespread geographically, too, which is nice. There's a lot of parks all around town. Um, and I feel like we're lucky to have that, too.

Speaker: And the city also does a very good job at maintaining and keeping the parks clean.

Speaker 2: They're- Well, I will let our maintenance staff know, 'cause they do a wonderful job. And they, yes, it is a thankless job.

Speaker: For sure.

Speaker 2: So.

Speaker: Absolutely. They added a bunch of more trash cans. Like they ju- yeah, they've just been doing a really, really good job, so.

Speaker 2: Yes. Well, thank you very much.

Speaker: That's very sweet. Of course.

Absolutely.

Speaker 3: Um, all right. In closing-

Speaker: You going rapid fire?

Speaker 3: You wanna do rapid fire?

Speaker: Well, you go rapid fire. Nervous. No. Uh, yeah, it's, no. I'm like, oh. I'm just gonna tell you right now, I'm looking at these [00:40:00] questions. Ew. I don't know.

Speaker 3: I don't. Okay. Well, we'll go with- They're, they're tough ones ... a couple of these for you.

Okay. What is your favorite beach?

Speaker 2: Lindelane

Speaker 3: Okay. What's your favorite park?

Speaker 2: San Gregornio

Speaker 3: What's your- Hold on.

Speaker: My

Speaker 3: turn. No, we don't care about you.

Speaker: I just...

Speaker 3: We don't care about you. We wanna know Julia's- Okay. ... opinion on this stuff. Okay, um, where's your favorite place to watch a sunset?

Speaker 2: Oh, where's my favorite place to watch the sunset?

I would say T Street.

Speaker 3: Okay. And last one. If, if you were gonna give a family advice for one thing to do this summer, what would they... what event would they attend?

Speaker 2: I think you gotta come to our beach concerts. Mm-hmm. They are so fun. I would say hit the beach early and then stay for the concert. Yeah. It is just, I feel like the beach at San Clemente, and you're so right, the sunset with the sun setting behind the band playing, I feel like is just such a unique experience, and our beach concerts are [00:41:00] just, um, such a fun- Yeah

such a fun place to be. So-

Speaker 3: And to, to kind of piggyback on that, if a family's looking back on their summer of 2026, what is, um, what is the, the, the identity of that memory of that? Like, what do you want that to be?

Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3: Let me... I didn't like the way I said that.

Speaker: Okay. I

Speaker 3: didn't

Speaker: either. Yeah.

Speaker 3: Okay, I'll just come in and read it.

When family's looking back on the summer of 2026, what do you hope they remember about spending time in San Clemente?

Speaker 2: Just creating memories together, I think, and we have a built-in system for that. I mean, being at the beach, being at the pier, being able to watch the sunset, watch live music, and have that all kind of right there is such a unique experience, and it's one of my favorite things to be at a beach concert and see kids running around and playing and jumping in the water and surfers surfing while there's music playing.

It's, it's just, I, I can't, I can't imagine how often that's happening other places, but it does feel so iconic San Clemente to be able to have all of those things. [00:42:00]

Speaker: I'm so happy that you've referenced the pier so many times because... and we don't need to air this, Ryan, but we can if you want. Brian has given me such a hard time, so let's open up this conversation about spending time at the pier because I too love it.

You're a pier guy. I, I, I, eh, I wouldn't go as far as saying I'm a pier guy. I just love- Have you

Speaker 2: ever fished at the pier?

Speaker: I have not. We- My son has though.

Speaker 2: We have a wonderful fishing pier, which I think is- Really? Yes. Yes, there's a lot of fishermen out there. And Hook + Cook is opening at the end of the pier.

Um, that will be also really fun. We had that concession area for a while at the end of the pier, and it's been vacant for a little bit, but, um, Hook + Cook is gonna be, um, wonderful. They have some really great- When does- ... really

Speaker 3: cool food ... does the opening happen? When are they opening?

Speaker 2: Sure. I- Soon? I mean- I think that it was supposed to be June 1st

Speaker 3: Hook + Cook, that's cool. Is-

Speaker: Maybe two ... isn't that a great name too? Hey- Hook + Cook.

Speaker 2: They will have fish, like, all three different- Like, hold on, hold on.

Speaker: You hook it and cook it type of thing? You

Speaker 2: hook it and cook it. No, I'm just kidding. Okay. There's, um, they have [00:43:00] both food for you to... They, they have a wonderful menu, and they also have bait for fishermen.

So, um, that's kind of where the Hook + Cook plays in. Yeah. But, um, you can get food, and then if you're fishing out there, they also have, um, everything you need to be able to go fishing. Yeah.

Speaker: All your bait, all your tackle- Love it ... all your requirements.

Speaker 3: I used to go out there with my grandpa, and when we weren't looking, he'd hook a, like a frozen mackerel-

Speaker 2: Yes

Speaker 3: cast it out there. And we were like little, and we weren't catching anything. And he'd p- pull it in and, "Look what I caught." And we'd be all be stoked taking pictures with this frozen fish. Like, in hindsight, you're like-

Speaker 2: False frozen ... "

Speaker 3: Oh, what a jerk, dude. We were not, we were getting skunked." That's

Speaker 2: funny. It was.

My grandma, my grandma did that one time for me, too. She went to the grocery store and, and got a fish for me to put on the end of my line so that I could bring it home to my mom and show

Speaker 3: her. Yes. "This is a salmon. This is a

Speaker: sal-"

Speaker 2: Right here. Yeah. Right here, center of the lake. Yeah. Um.

Speaker 3: That's so funny.

That's awesome.

Speaker: Awesome. Well, Julia Pettitt. Yes. Thank you so much. This has [00:44:00] been, again, one of my favorite podcasts. I think it was awesome. I think we-

Speaker 2: Thank you for having me ...

Speaker: I think, uh-

Speaker 2: It's my favorite podcast, too.

Speaker: It's, right, by far. Wouldn't you agree, the best podcast you've ever done?

Speaker 2: Best podcast I've ever

Speaker: done.

Very good information. Thank you so much. Make sure you like, subscribe, and share this content. Push it out to the community. And other than that, Brian, any final remarks?

Speaker 3: No. Feedback. Give us feedback. Yep. Tell us what you like, what you don't like. And, uh, again, Julia, thanks for, thanks for being here. We hope to have some sort of a city relationship, um, just getting information out to everybody and, and talking about projects in town, so.

We're

Speaker 2: grateful for that.

Speaker: Yeah, we should have her on, I think, once a month. Yeah. Once a quarter, I think. Yeah, you come bearing such great information. I know we covered a lot here, but things are consistently popping up, so.

Speaker 3: Yeah, there's stuff going on all year long. I'd

Speaker 2: love to come back.

Speaker: So I think the comments are gonna be overwhelmingly positive about bringing Julia back on the podcast.

Yeah.

Speaker 3: Right

Speaker: on.

Speaker 3: Thank you.

Speaker: Yep. Thanks, Julia.

Speaker 2: Have a good

[00:45:00] one, you guys. Thank you. Thank you.
