PART 1 FACTS
Gil Scott-Heron – Whitey On The Moon
- On this date in 2018, the biographical film First Man, inspired by the life of astronaut Neil Armstrong, debuts in US theaters. R&B singer Leon Bridges appears as jazz musician Gil Scott-Heron, reciting the poem "Whitey On The Moon."
- Fast forward to this year, and Whitey On The Moon was once again trending while Elon Musk & Richie Rich Branson were flying in space ships funded by their own multibillions, which obviously the people posting that were disgusted by.
Robert Glasper feat D Smoke & Tiffany Gouche – Shine
- Indie disclaimer.
- The famed piano virtuoso is back and announcing a new album. Black Radio 3 is due for release before the end of the year by Loma Vista Recordings, and this one features D Smoke vocalist Tiffany Gouche.
BADBADNOTGOOD feat Arthur Verocai – Love Proceeding
- The jazz madness quartet are back with their latest album 5 years in the making called Talk Memory.
- Love Proceeding is one of a few songs on the album featuring Brasilero jazz & soul legend Arthur Verocai, who also featured on Hiatus Kaiyote’s Mood Valiant from earlier this year.
- So, not only getting around, but getting around with some very high quality sound.
Tasha – Sorry’s Not Enough
- The artist from Chicago true name Tasha Viets-Van Lear is out with her new album on my birthday November 5, titled Tell Me What You Miss The Most.
- Big up to Tasha, she’s not only an incredible musical talent, but is also a poet & very busy social activist.
Far Caspian – Following The Trend
Far Caspian – Attempt
- UK-based Irish alternative artist Joel Johnston has finally had his time arrive with his debut LP.
- Ways To Get Out is available as of Friday, and since making his appearance in 2019 on our show with a solid but rather modest following, Far Caspian has grown to have a big following, with over half a million monthly listeners.
- Same old story right, Prince Paolo? Come on The Drop, get huge. That’s how it is.

PART 2 SONGS
Son Step - Hissing Sauna
Darius - RISE (ft Benny Sings)
Magdalena Bay - Hysterical Us
DRAGONFRUIT - Exhale
Lunar Vacation - Where is Everyone?
Curtis Harding - With You
PART 2 FACTS
Son Step - Hissing Sauna
- That is a very cool track in my opinion. Son Step is an experimental pop trio from Philly.
- This past Friday, the group released a new EP entitled “New Ears”.
- This new single is about how connected everyone is to their phones and the consequences of that connectedness. Kind of a dark topic but the instrumentation is upbeat and bouncy. Really cool stuff from this Philly trio.
Darius - RISE (ft Benny Sings)
- Darius is a producer based in France. He teams up with Dutch vocalist, Benny Sings for this new track.
- I like Darius’ blend of house and disco in the instrumentation. Benny Sings, who is signed to Stones Throw by the way, adds some really nice vocals that kind of just float along track. It’s a really strong collab from the two.
- Darius says that he was kind of paying tribute to some of his favorite artists with this new track. He’s a big fan of George Benson, Kool & The Gang, and Imagination, and I think you get touches of those influences in this track for sure.
Magdalena Bay - Hysterical Us
- Magdalena Bay are back on the show with another new track, and once again they continue to impress.
- “Hysterical Us” is the fourth single from their newly released album, “Mercurial World”, which comes to us via Luminelle.
- The track comes with a very colorful and trippy music video. Just like the song, the video is also very 90s pop. Really good stuff from this duo. Do go and check out the new album, it’s really good stuff.
DRAGONFRUIT – Exhale
- Dragonfruit is an alt-R&B quartet from the Netherlands.
- Just this past Friday, they released a new album via Super Sonic Records. The album is called “Gears of the Giant Machine” and I think overall, it is a very beautiful and well-balanced R&B and neo-soul project, with splashes of hip hop as well.
- “Exhale” is new single and it is all about positivity and self-love. All their music has a pretty positive vibe to it all, so I highly recommend it, especially if you are looking for something to boost you spirits a bit.
Lunar Vacation - Where is Everyone?
- Lunar Vacation is a quartet from Atlanta.
- “Where Is Everyone?” is the latest single from their forthcoming album. The album is entitled, “Inside Every Fig is a Dead Wasp”, it will officially drop on October 29th via Keeled Scales.
- The song is basically a story about two people who are complete opposites but try to make a relationship work.
- The relationship ends up failing in the end but the important thing was that they at least tried to be with someone that is so different that themselves. I think that’s pretty cool.
Curtis Harding - With You
- We are going to stay in Atlanta for the last track of quarter 2 of the show with Curtis Harding.
- Really excited to have seen this track pop up on my feed. I feel like every time I hear a new Curtis Harding track, I’m always impressed by the quality as well as the variety of his work. He’s got those smooth vocals that seem to sound great on any kind of instrumentation.
- He’s got a new album on the way soon. The album is entitled “If Words Were Flowers”, it will drop on November 5th, and it will come via ANTI. Very much looking forward to that release.
PART 3 SONGS
Modern Nomad – Electrify
SUEP - Domesticated Dream
The Districts - I Want to Feel It All
Hannah Jadagu - All My Time Is Wasted
Lonely Chief - Our Time On This Rock
SOOT SPRITE - Night Thirst
PART 3 FACTS
Modern Nomad – Electrify
- Modern Nomad is the recording project of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Tom McLean.
- He hails from Baltimore and his new track is about focusing on what is right in front of you in life. He says that he often finds himself getting hung up on the “what ifs” in life and he wanted to make a song about living more in the present.
- He released an EP about 4 months ago called “Bardo”. Just recently he announced that another project is already on the way soon. “Electrify” is the lead single of that forthcoming album. The album will be entitled “There it is, There you are”.
SUEP - Domesticated Dream
- SUEP is a quintet. It started out as a duo from Brighton but then the founding members moved to London and added 3 more members.
- “Domesticated Dream” is their debut single as a quintet. The band explains that the song is about not having enough money or time to acquire stuff that you want because of capitalism, and about wanting to share your life with someone in a cozy and settled way.
The Districts - I Want to Feel It All
- Just last week, The Districts announced the coming of their new fifth album. The album is entitled “The Great American Painting” and ‘I Want to Feel it All’ is the first single from that project.
- The album was produced by Joe Chiccarelli, whose credits include Spoon, The Strokes, and Broken Social Scene so you know it wil be some high quality stuff.
- The album will drop on February 4th via Fat Possum so I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more singles leading up to the offcial album release.
Hannah Jadagu - All My Time Is Wasted
- Hannah Juh-dah-goo is an artist from New York City. “All My Time is Wasted” is her newest cut and it comes to us via Sub Pop.
- She says that she started writing this song last year, during her first semester in college. The song is about how sometimes, no matter how hard you work, in the end you still kind of feel like you’ve wasted your time.
- This track is her first release since her EP, “What Is Going On?”, which dropped earlier this year. She is definitely a young artist to watch.
Lonely Chief - Our Time On This Rock
- I think this was a really nice discovery this week. Lonely Chief is the moniker of Kevin Meneses. He is an artist based in LA.
- I’ve never heard of him before this track. I dig some digging and checked out his other tunes. First off, he’s got a ton of songs and he seems to have a very steady underground following.
- His songs are really cool, I like his sound a lot. I think his catalogue is definitely worth checking out.
SOOT SPRITE - Night Thirst
- We are going to end off part 3 with a bit of a slower burn with Soot Sprite’s, “Night Thirst”.
- Soot Sprite is a shoegaze trio from Exeter.
- This is another new cut taken from their recently announced forthcoming new EP. The EP is called “Poltergeists”, it is set for release on October 29th via Specialist Subject Records.
- The track is about a past relationship. Lead singer, Elise Cook says that her previous relationship had her really feeling down about herself. She blamed herself for the breakup and felt like it would be difficult for someone to truly love her. Pretty sad song, but life is sad sometimes right Danno?
PART 4 SONGS
Fancy Normal – FIASCO
Houis x Indigo Eyes x Taura Lamb- sad all the time
Elephant Castle - Rocket To The Moon
Dinner! - Connection (feat Molly Burch)
Separation Anxiety - Day & Dream
Dylan Meek - Sweet Summer
PART 4 FACTS
Fancy Normal – FIASCO
- Fancy Normal is a pop duo based in Melbourne. I remember playing their track, “Sober Spaceman” almost a year ago on this show. They’ve had a busy year though.
- Earlier this year they released an EP entitled “Starters and Appetizers”. One of the tracks on that EP was remixed by 3 different producers. Fancy Normal put the remixes together, added a new track and sort of did a remix EP release kind of thing.
- This new track, “FIASCO” is their latest release and the track is all about the realities of a true to life relationship. You know, it can’t be rainbows every day.
Houis x Indigo Eyes x Taura Lamb- sad all the time
- This is a really strong collab. Taura Lamb is the vocalist while Houis and Indigo Eyes team up to do some extremely well-polished production work for this one.
- I love how everything is so understated but the track still sounds so solid. High quality production and I think Taura Lamb’s vocals do a great job of tying everything together and kind of guiding us through the instrumentation.
- Perfect music for zoning out or going for a late-night drive.
Elephant Castle - Rocket To The Moon
- So glad to hear this new Elephant Castle track. To be honest, I liked his previous single, “French Food”, but if I’m honest, I didn’t really like it as much as his prior singles.
- With this new track, I am back to totally loving Elephant Castle.
- Elephant Castle is the moniker of Phil Danyew. He used to be a touring member of Foster the People.
- He started his solo career in 2019 and he has steadily releasing great tunes. Personally, I am patiently awaiting some announcement of a new EP or album. Hopefully we’ll hear about that soon.
Dinner! - Connection (feat Molly Burch)
- Dinner is the moniker of Andres Rhedin, who is an artist from Denmark.
- “Connection” is his latest single taken from his forthcoming new project entitled “Dream Work” which is due out October 22nd.
- It will come via Captured Tracks. Molly Burch, who is also signed to Captured Tracks is featured in this tune, providing some nice, albeit very light-handed vocals.
Separation Anxiety - Day & Dream
- This song just “feels” good. Separation Anxiety is a band from North Carolina. The song sounds like it could be a love song for a partner and it is, but more specifically if is about love for your dog.
- Lead singer Abby Amaya wrote this song for her goldendoodle, Zeppi.
- The song starts off sad but it has a happy ending when Abby and Zeppi are reunited. I love how the band infused sounds of birds chirping and a dog panting at the end. It just puts a smile on your face.
Dylan Meek - Sweet Summer
- I’m a little late bringing this one to the show but I had to play it this week. We’ve had kind of a long summer here in Gwangju. I mean it’s October but it's still pretty hot out during the day time.
- Dylan Meek is from Texas and he makes some really good, soulful music. He’s totally legit when it comes to having the pedigree for jazz and blues. He’s worked with artists such as Questlove and Post Malone.
- Even without the name drops, the quality of his music is evident in this new single. It’s been a sweet summer, so I wanted to sneak this one in before it actually starts feeling like fall.
