SimmBros Pod

In Episode 5 of the SimmBros Pod, Chris and Cam are back home for a special Memorial Day edition packed with real stories, laughs, and big lessons. From sprinting through LAX to risking pesto-induced allergic reactions abroad, the brothers share their craziest travel experiences — and what they taught them about adaptability. Then, they dig into the shifting landscape of sports media, reflecting on the loss of ESPN staples like Around the Horn and what’s next for Inside the NBA. Finally, they break down the difference between discipline and motivation — and why real self-confidence comes from following through even when you don’t feel like it. Plus: the challenge of the week, what “quality of life” really means, and why “later” doesn’t exist.

And welcome.

the Simbros Pod. Yeah, episode five, episode five. Memorial Day edition. Yes sir, we're back home. I'm Chris. I'm Cam. And together, we're the Simbros. And we're here to help you win your 20s, people. Obviously you can tell if you are watching this on YouTube. First of all, shout out to YouTube watchers. Hey, come on, always got to. Shout out to YouTube watchers. Those are the real hardcore ones. They're here every day. They're watching this. That's crazy. Our background is a little bit different. As I mentioned before, we are home right

It's Memorial Day. It is Memorial Day. Why not? Got the Monday off. Little barbecue, all that stuff. Barbecue never hurt nobody. Never. Except for the people. It might hurt. I don't know. mean, who, has a barbecue ever hurt anybody? I thought you were gonna say like the animals. I'm sorry I you Grills explode. Ain't true. And also, is Memorial Day like a firework holiday? It probably is.

So then fingers, Jason Pierre Paul. Shout out JPB. Shout out JPB, man. Got that Super Bowl though. He does. Eight fingers. Does he have two rings or one? I mean, could they even fit on all his fingers? That's what saying. Like Bill Russell.

Memorial Day good time to get back. Yeah needed this day off. Honestly, Monday off is always great I'm like having had one so long. It's been since like Presidents Day. Yeah, but to say I mean First of all, should we make st. Patty's Day holiday? You guys let us know but more presidents day Yeah

Nothing. There's a few coming up though. Yeah, no, it starts, you know, it goes, it goes Memorial Day for the July. Hey, listen, some people don't get it though. I don't get it. I don't know who I got to talk to about that, I ain't getting it. I work in that. Then it goes into right there. You're in Labor Day. then it's like, what's Labor Day hits your kind of already at the end of the year.

Because then it's just get to October, Thanksgiving, November. October is a good month because football is on. No one's complaining. And basketball and baseball. Yeah. Playoff baseball in October. October is the best month for sports for sure. Then you go October, then it's November. November you got Thanksgiving. November, what's your Thanksgiving? The year's already over. Game over. Because there's like two weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas break or whatever. So basically it's already December. Yeah. Right now. Once you get to Memorial Day, then...

You'll get through it. Those two months were tough. What did Jerry Seinfeld say? It's really just two weeks. Yeah, it's just two weeks. People don't know that though. Seinfeld, they'll get it. We'll loop the clip in some guess maybe. So, relaxing this week. What's this episode gonna be about, Cam? I don't know. We're just yapping today. I think so, yeah. We don't really have a script. We're kind of just gonna go with it. We're just gonna go with it. One of the things that jogged our memory, we obviously took a plane.

to get here, so we were in the airport. We have had some crazy airport stories. Crazy, I know. Actually, we jogged up every week. You forget, it's like crazy. Anything you had, anything crazy? I have a lot of stories, but the one that comes to mind most and most recent for me was your graduation last year. I let mom and dad come earlier because, you know.

I don't know how much I wanted to see you. wanted some more time here. Whatever this guy. So they left like a couple days earlier and I was here at this house. Yeah. Listen, I need the extra debt. No, you don't. I do. You don't know me. I have I actually do know you. I have routines that I need that you can't break for a graduate anyway. So yeah, you know, whatever I leave. It's a West Coast to East Coast trip and I'm leaving on a regular red eye like we always do because it's probably the best.

because you lose the least amount of time, at least you can sleep on that time. leaving the flight, the flight's at 1130 or so PM, right? And I leave in my regular nine ish or so to get to LAX, which takes like 30 or 45 minutes, even on a bad day, but at 9 PM, it's usually even less than that, probably like 30 minutes, right? I did the maps beforehand and I'm not checking a bag. All I have is a carry on cause I'm only there for the weekend. So again, the Uber, everything seems fine. The

Navigation saying I'm gonna get there at 937. I'm like, this is perfect. I'm gonna be there even earlier than I want it to be. Because I personally like to cut the airport close. You don't. So that's a whole different story. I get there and I get to like a mile-ish out, a mile and a half outside of LAX and traffic starts to back up. like not, there's traffic. No, traffic is legit standstill.

To the point where I'm in the Lyft and the Lyft app gives me notification asking if I'm okay because the car hasn't moved. I've never received that notification.

in my life. Yeah, that's like a safety thing. it's legit safety. thought you haven't moved. What's going on? That's how bad the traffic was. you know, thinking I'm saying, you know, I'm just going to wait it out. I'll be fine. I'm not checking a bag. But then 9 35 turns into 10 0 5 and 10 0 5 turns into 10 25 and we're boarding at 10 50. So now I'm like, we're still a mile and a half away from the airport. Anyone who knows LAX, we're right at that in and out.

Right? Not many people know it, but if you do know, we're right at the in and out. So I don't know. I'm like, I'm not going to make this flight. And also it's a, last flight of the day. So if I took another flight in the morning, I would miss all Friday of your graduation ceremony, which you had a lot of family there. And I know you kind of needed me there. You had a lot of family there too. Yeah, but it was your day. wasn't, really matter to me.

And like a rational human being, I got out of the car and was like, I gotta start running. I gotta figure this out. And I'm full hoodie, full sweatsuit, cause I like to wear a sweatsuit, full sweatsuit, backpack, back. And I'm like, I gotta make this plane. So the adrenaline hit me like nothing before. I run, I've done a couple of marathons. So I at least was in some sort of good enough shape to start running.

I've never felt this way before in my life. It was kind of like, you know, when they say a mom gets this extra mom strength when her kids in trouble. That was the adrenaline I felt because I was like, if I miss this thing, I will never live it down. If I miss your graduation, I will never live it down ever in my life. So what pace were you running? I don't know. I put I turned my watch on though. It was one point eight miles. But you had to if you had to ask me, what did you think? I think I was around like 745. So you're going was sprinting. And the thing is, there's so many hills at LAX. There's one

big hill too. So I'm up this hill. I'm sprinting up this hill with the bag on. It's also 11 PM at night. I to cross streets. There's like cars horning, you know, but I listen, I know what I had to do. I had to get to see you. I almost died there. You know, I almost did. I almost did. So I'm running and the best part about LAX. So here's the other thing. I was on United, right? And LAX like any other regular airport has terminals one through seven or six, whatever. United.

happens to be terminal seven. I'm like, this is not gonna work because even if I got up to the terminals, I would have to run all the way to seven. This is not happening. But thankfully LAX, I don't even know by the grace of God has a terminal seven connector from terminal one, like to get automatically to terminal seven. It's like a shortcut. So you don't have to go through two, three, four, five, six. So I took that shortcut, but again, it's a car shortcut. So I'm running in like the car areas.

Right? And like there's cars behind me, trying to like get me out of the way, but I'm like trying to run on as small towards the shoulder as I can. But like, I'm like, dude, I got a bag on like, don't hit me. You know, I'm going to sue. So I ended up getting there in time, right by the time I group boards. But like the craziest part is that of course the flight was full, full and I am drenched in sweat, drenched and chafing from my pants on my

I was like, why am I like inner thighs hurting? And I take off my pants when I land in DC and I have like all these burns from the chafing, dude. And this was legit just for your graduation. Oh yeah. It's almost like you could have left earlier and avoided this whole situation. but I didn't, there was no, like no one said I checked the traffic. I wasn't dumb in this situation. What happened then?

What you mean what happened? what like why was the traffic? They didn't say maybe it was a protest Maybe it was something maybe a street was closed because it was late I don't know but no one gave me the like idea that this was gonna happen and I left at 930 It's not like I left so late like so I don't know but I made the flight I was sweating and I think I was actually in a middle seat or a window. I was in a window seat

And then the whole flight, couldn't even pee, but I had to pee so badly. I didn't want to wake the people up. ⁓ And when I got off the plane in DC, legit, like the person, and this is not even a joke. The person next to me was like, are you okay? Because I was like holding my pee in so much that I was going to die. And I made it to the bathroom. like, you know, this was like, it wasn't like, ⁓ I'm holding in my pee, whatever. No, this is legit.

Like was going to burst and it's an avoidable, but I was just trying to lock in. was just not trying to like mess people up. I was like, I can wait. And then I was like, no, I can't wait. And then everyone then, then when they're getting off the plane, you're like, can you go any slower? Like this guy up here is like measling around the overhead bin. They're not. I'm

dying back there. I dying in like row 38 because we don't got that like that yet. So, you know, airplanes and airports. I got a lot of other stories, including a bad one coming back after Thanksgiving, which is a little gross here. Oh, that was that's a fun one. But I'll let I'll let you take the mantle. Now. I know you have a couple of great stories. Anything comes to mind immediately.

Yes I do in fact have a story. Of course you do. Classic right? ⁓ I know I mentioned this before but I studied abroad in Rome. Wait what was your name? And ⁓ it was fantastic but I almost didn't make it there. You almost didn't make it to Rome? Yes. Okay. Okay so I was flying from

l a to new york and then new york to ro that's a couple trips right there it a lot has to go right into the case but still is it it's an all-day affair it's a little bit of lot of things the worry all day fair i so the connection i had in new york was too would have out yet more than enough time should be more than that's what i think

So we land in New York a little bit late, probably about 30 minutes. I'm like, whatever. You'll still be fine. I already checked all my bags. They're already done. then we were all hungry because it was like New York time. It was probably around 7 PM, 4 PM LA time. We're all hungry. We haven't eaten anything all day. We've been in a plane for the last six hours. We've been in a plane for the last six hours, right? There's a Shake Shack. If people know this, man.

If you know what I'm talking about, know what talking about. There's a Shake Shack in the Delta terminal that has like an automatic order system. Yeah, like you just do it yourself. Yeah, it's like, it's like a, yeah, it's like a self check. Self serve. Yeah, basically. So there's like three employees at the Shake Shack. Two of them are just talking, hanging out.

There's one guy actually flipping burgers, respect to that guy. I noticed that a line starts to form and like, actually not really a line even, because it's very quick with the self-checkout. But I noticed a lot of people are doing it. A lot of people, like I would say like 10 to 15 people have put in their orders. And since me, so then there's people before me as well. So I see one guy flipping like six burgers.

That can't be enough. I got a double. I know it's not enough. You're probably the lowest of most people. I see that and I start to get a little bit worried because I'm like, I'm starving. I just want to eat. I'm not even thinking about my flight. And again, these two employees are just talking, hanging out, one guy flipping six burgers. About 10 minutes go by and he gives out the first order to three people.

after 10 minutes and I see people just keep clicking and keep pressing. he puts on like six more burgers and these guys are still talking and I'm like no no no this is not It's not good. The clock starts ticking 30 minutes later nothing's happening. that long? No no no it's terrible and we realize because it's an international fight you have to board

Like everything is done earlier. You to board earlier, the plane, they shut the doors earlier. ⁓ Everything happens earlier, right? So we're like, okay, know, two hours kind of turned into hour 10. Yeah, still good though. Still good, but we should- Hour 10 before boarding or hour 10 before the flight takes Hour 10 before the flight takes off. okay. Well, now it's like, you didn't say that. And guess what? Guess where the terminal is. I don't know where the terminal is. Neither did we.

Was actually in the international terminal which in JFK you have to get there by bus. let's let's let's let's stop for a second

JFK if you know you know having Terminals in different areas having to drive from Delta to American terminal is two and a half miles Like how is that possible? They should be in the same place. That's besides the point get back to it. anyway, I see our like our 10 left and we're all just kind of chilling at the Shake Shack like We're not too frantic. Yeah, and then we all look at each other like We gotta go. Yeah, you gotta get out of there

left the Shake Shack there because they called out a new order and it still wasn't me. like, it's gonna be another 20 minutes before they even get the next order out and it still might not even be me. I ordered food, we left that Shake Shack and we didn't walk to the terminal. We were sprinting. Funny story, as we're sprinting to the bus to get to the international terminal, we see Tracy Morgan. Oh nice, shout out Tracy. He was just chilling at the airport. Go Knicks. Anyway.

We're sprinting. mean full on sprinting. All of us have a backpack and a carry on and a big carry on bag, right? Yep. Sprinting to get to this bus. We get to the bus. We have to wait 10 minutes for the bus to show up. Crazy. We have to wait 10 minutes for the bus to show up. Crazy. And when the bus shows up, it drops us off at the wrong time. No, it didn't. I didn't hear that.

It dropped you off at the wrong. What do you mean the wrong or did you guys get off at the wrong term? Whatever happened? Yeah, there you go. Whatever happened, we were not at the right spot. I see. Listen, I know him. I do. And then we've later learned you have to go to security again. Oh, Going through. Wait, you already did. You to go through security again. go international flight. So what?

We're at the wrong terminal, about 50 minutes before the flight takes off. Yeah, like boarding is usually on domestic flight takes 40 minutes before, right? So you're already done. Then we go outside. Mind you, it's January in New York. It's freezing outside. We have to go outside to sprint from one terminal to another.

You know, I was carrying my bag and I had to carry one of my friend's bags as well. I'm carrying like three bags full on sprinting in the dead of winter in New York. you a jacket. I didn't, I was wearing a t-shirt because I was in the airport. It was fine. It was terrible. was actually, I literally felt myself getting sick. You know that feeling where you're like. Yeah, bro, the cough is not going away. The short throw is not going away. You're already there. It was that cough that just doesn't go away. You already know you're done. Terrible. Anyway.

finally get to this place they have to like check our passports and do all the you already did that that's it all of it they're doing all the due diligence all over again we're like please please like we're late we're late yeah and they're like okay wait we might have to like do this I'm like no no no no no just like just stamp it let's go yep all right let's go you guys got it they finally push us to security and they knew that we are flight was late so they push us to security and they say

You can skip, you kind of skip the line. Thank God for those JFK employees. ⁓ We skipped the line. It was the four of us, right? Two of our friends made it before us. They go and they hold the plane. ⁓ so you guys are a little far back, so the people went ahead. You said, don't stay, go, go. My other friend, there was some toothpaste in her bag or something and it was...

Yeah, you know and then they gotta open everything they gotta see they got to open everything I'm like, please like just one time bro. Just yeah throw away the bag. We'll buy a new bag Oh my god, so that was that was terrible. Anyway, they literally hold the plane doors open for us. Wow They hold the plane doors open for us run right in they said we've been waiting for you guys Close the door right as we walk. Wow. Hey, at least they at least they waited at least they waited I'm just saying we barely

barely made it and like you I was drenched in sweat. Drenched, drenched, drenched. You can't like get out of that situation. And then I was also so disoriented because in the flight the flight attendants were speaking to me in Italian. Yeah, that's crazy. was like wait. We're not, we're not, if you were going from Italy back to New York that seems like it make more sense. But it was, was the airline though. Italian Air? Rome,

Romare. It was an Italian airline. Oh, so you guys you already you already messed up but the food seemed we were cooked. You gotta get good food on there, huh? So yeah, so I you would think I was starving. I'm starving people. Again, I didn't get my Shake You left the Shake Shack. You're probably still down $80 from that day. And Shake Shack is already expensive. Yes, it's already expensive. It's ridiculous. You're done. Ridiculous. $25 for a double cheeseburger. Oh my god. Anyway, they give us the

food options on the plane and it's like either pasta or like some vegetarian thing. was like come on now. I was like Italy pasta. It's a made in heaven. It's perfect. It's perfect. It's an Italy airline. I'm literally dying but I'll take whatever I can get. We get our pasta. It is a pesto lasagna and that sounds great. Sounds great to me right now. I could eat that right now.

I'm allergic to pesto.

But I was so hungry that I was like, you know what? If I die, I die. What a way to go out. Hey, listen. mean, you too much. You did too much to not eat the pesto. I was starving. Like, what were you going to do? I I'm like, please don't kill me. Please let me not die on the way over.

So after eating pesto lasagna that I'm allergic to...

and sprinting for god knows how long. At you got carbs in though. You just ran. I only had a minor allergic reaction so let's go. that's a win for me. That's a huge win. Throw us a little scratchy but we made it through. You were already getting sick anyway. What's another allergic reaction on top of that? It was bad. It was like a double. But either way, I'm trying to get some sleep after this ridiculous time.

I see a guy to my left, he's walking down the aisle and it's a double aisle plane, a 232. It actually was a 242. One of my favorite planes. 242? A lot of aisle space, bro. He's got a lot of planes. I'm a big-plated guy. But anyways, was a 242 and I'm sitting on the aisle seat of the middle. Yep. So I see this guy walking in the left aisle and literally he's walking, no problem, no problem.

Faceplants in front of you in front lights all right up lights off like sound or no? That sounds lights off like it's like probably about 1 2 a.m. Every strength sleep. Yeah, I'm really thinking am I hallucinating?

maybe you just were done. Maybe that's maybe you saw the light and that was what that was. Hey, I really thought I was hallucinating because this guy face planted.

I thought he was gonna get up because I was like, you know, it's fine. That's embarrassing. But I tried to look away to give him his, you know, his piece. like I said, it was dark, so maybe he tripped or whatever. And he's not getting up. Yeah. I mean, you were saying giving him some space, bro. Faceplanting on a plane is like pretty hard to do. Like, it's not like he just like slipped. Like faceplanting. It was dark. I was trying to give him... was dark. Okay. But he didn't get up. And I'm like looking at my watch. One minute.

Two minute, three minute, he's not moving. It's like the boxing ring. One, two, three. Get up bro. I'm like, I'm thinking, my God, please, if this guy's dead, do we have to like divert our play? How selfish of me to be thinking like that. Divert to Chicago, get some more, get some Chicago deep dish cause you missed out on Shake Shack or something.

finally thank God he doesn't get up but a planet tenant walks by and she checks in on him she's like my god are you all right are you all right and I don't hear him say anything I don't see a move I think he after a little bit she was he like turned and he was like what happened yeah in Italian this is all in Italian so you don't know what's happening I no idea what I'm just reading body language yeah and

The guy, again, so he fell in the aisle, so it was between me and obviously another guy on the other side. She wakes up the guy on the other side and slaps him like an Italian, you know, like a love, like a, you didn't tell us that this guy fell, she was mad at the guy. Meanwhile, I'm sleeping. So I gotta click the flight data call button or something. Yeah, that guy was fast asleep. I was awake, I actually should have said So it was your fault. It was my fault.

He ended up being okay, thank God, but I was literally, I was actually so worried because I was like, oh my God, if we had to divert this plane over the Atlantic Ocean right now, I don't even know where we would go. I mean, I'm not good at geography, so you gotta tell me. But anyway, God, after all that, finally made it into Rome,

And because of all that, I knew it was going to be a great trip. Yeah, for sure. I mean, you went through all of that and...

There's no doubt it couldn't have been like a good trip. That was like the universe testing you. Can you make it through? Because if you can, it's going to be a great trip. Literally. You got to make it through that first part and then smooth sailing. Actually. So would you study abroad over again? you, know? Oh, a thousand percent. So that was the right decision you made. A thousand percent. Anybody else like to people who are thinking about studying abroad? Do it. If you're, if you're thinking about, if you're like, I'm not going to do it, that's fine. Yeah. But if you're thinking about maybe I should do it, maybe I shouldn't do it. It's,

Nothing can ever compare to like what the day to day you have now and for the rest of your life will never be anything like that. Yeah. And so it's just it's really great to kind of just like immerse yourself in a different culture and learn a whole different ballgame. Really. It like it just makes life so exciting. So interesting. I feel like it like opens your eyes up to a lot of different things. And yeah, one of the greatest things I've done. Do you you made a lot of new friends from like because don't you when you do it, you do it in a place where.

You're with a lot of different students from different schools, right? It's not just students from your school. Dude, I've made some of my best friends from abroad. And even people that I went to school with. now, because I was closer with them, it was fantastic. Some of the best friends I've made, we were abroad together. it's kind of like... You're bonded. It's a family. You're banding together. You're like...

trying to achieve a common goal. You're being Americans in a foreign country together. Yes. And trying to navigate a different language, different routines, a time change like no other. Yeah. All that. lot of different things. That brings a lot of people closer together. So 100%. That journey, super cool. I wish I was unfortunately not able to travel abroad for extenuating circumstances. But ⁓ at some point, I definitely want to get to those places and do a lot of different traveling things I can.

It's important. I know we're planning a lot of different things down the road, of course We were just talking about Japan, but we can't go to Japan until we got money like that Yeah, you want to do it right? We want to do Japan, right? So yeah, that's cool. You traveling is gonna be everything but another thing we want to talk about today is the state of sports TV nowadays interesting, yeah Interesting. I don't know if a lot of you guys

grew up in the same era that we grew up. But we grew up with the Sports Center top 10. We would watch it every day in the morning. Don't forget about Friday, not top 10. not top 10. The gray sort of ticker on the screen, it was just straight sports highlights. Stuart Scott, whoever it was, we would know that when the top 10 came out, it was like we had to go to school because it was usually like $7.55. At that point, we had to get up and go. So we were like,

We wanted to get to the top 10 to see the plays from last night because he went to sleep so early. And, but then also we didn't want to see it because that meant we had to go. And one of those, you know, within that early sports center days or OG sports center days, there were all these other shows like sports nation, highly questionable and more specifically around the horn. I think, you know, around the horn is a staple ESPN show.

A staple show and I know it's not the most glamorous you're not gonna have these high-level athletes talking and doing different things But what I think and what we've all grown up on is just being a good show It's kind of like a show you can just tune it on and see new perspectives about the day in sports because a lot of times you might be seeing athlete perspectives or personality perspectives, but these people were just straight writers, right? They were in the locker rooms. They were covering this team following these teams and

giving their perspectives. I thought being able to see four different people every day give their perspective on different topics was amazing. And this past Friday, May 23rd was the last episode of Around the Horn. It's a shame. 23 plus years. It's a shame. Shame. I think shame. It's a shame. And I don't know, I'm just upset about

losing that show and about where the state of sports media in general is sometimes. You know where it's going now? Where?

Hiring athletes and celebrities. Yep. That's all I see Athletes and celebrities sometimes both. Yeah people like Shannon Sharpe. Yep perk. Yeah What do they say? They don't say anything their takes are not Great. Yeah, no They're media personalities. Stephen A Smith is an actor. Yeah He's he'll tell you he's an actor when he's on General Hospital. Yeah brick brick. He's an

He's acting. Yep, when he when he has to like prove his point on first take he's acting and just screaming He doesn't make any sense and it's like making a point to make a point right and Listen, I get it. There's room for that. That's what you know kind of where we're leaning in the world and that's fine But you can have that but you also should have a show that has a breath of fresh air like around the horn I think it's almost like It's so essential. Yeah

It is. Because you have all these media personalities, which I hate that term. Yeah. You have these media personalities talking about sports and not the media. No. And it's becoming like a reality TV show. They're not in the locker rooms. They're not at the press conferences. They're not covering things every day. Like, that's what it used to be. And look, believe me, sometimes I can agree journalists are in are in too much. They do too much. I get that. Delicate balance.

Which is why you have one show with journalists. Yes. That's all we were asking for. not. There's how many debate shows now? It's all sports one has like 30,000. It's all debate. Literally. I think it's besides cowherd who he does sometimes debate. Then it's like Nick, right? First things first, which I honestly like, but then it's like the Paul Pierce, LaShawn McCoy. What do they even, they don't even know anything about basketball.

They're debating basketball and the Sean McCoy like has no idea what he's talking about. He doesn't even know what's going on in football. know that's what you do like seriously like

Just what happened? What happened? It's become a clix. It's all clix now. It's all about what will get you the most amount of views on social media. And look, around the horn, journalists giving their opinions, doesn't get you that many views on social media. it was still, like ratings wise, was still one of the more...

Popular shows on ESPN. Yeah, everyone looks forward to it. It was kind of like a stable, you know, we're going into after NFL live It's around the horn in the interruption like two o'clock. Yeah, two o'clock five o'clock Eastern Yeah, so it's it's just it's just sad to me and I really just don't like it I don't like where we're going. I don't like the state of TV. I don't like any of it and What I really feel for you know, the journalists at the end of the day will be fine, right? They're still working on their own

things, but they showed all the crew, all the people behind the scenes who you don't even see who have worked on this show only for the past 23 years. They're just out of a job now. They're done. They're just out of a job. It's It's terrible. Like for no reason, pretty much, right? The show was doing fine. It's always been good and they're out of a job now. So those people have to go figure out a new thing after doing something the whole time for 23 years. The same thing. It's like, could you imagine trying to find something new?

And they weren't even told why it was taken away. It was just like, oh, it's taken away. And we don't even know what's replacing it. It's probably going be some podcast, bro. Maybe this one. Yeah. Not after that. Yeah, it's the same thing, dude. Around the Horn loss, we just lost Sports Center in Los Angeles, too. think, you know, it's kind of going the wrong direction. Wrong direction. Maybe we are becoming old. I mean, you think? I just know that old people don't like when...

There's change happens, but I don't think this change is the wrong change. That's what they say to. Maybe I should just stop talking. The iPhone came out. This is wrong. I'm to help anybody. But I just like, you know, the scene that people get out of a job and all that stuff that just hurts me. And you know, it's just, you know, I guess it was our childhood and maybe we're being a little extra about it. But I don't know. It means something to me. ⁓ Me. So it really does.

do love the Pat McAvee show, so that's great. is great. But everything else, used to look forward to ESPN. It used to be the flagship channel. Everybody would watch this. This is the show for sports. This is the channel for sports. I mean, I I don't know anymore. I don't know. And we're also coming up on the end of Inside the NBA as we know it. There's actually a lot to be so.

So there's a lot there's a lot of pushback actually I've seen from even my own friends who don't love inside the NBA. That's crazy I know I mean look again Here's another thing the inside the NBA guys besides maybe Kenny.

Kenny the Jetsmith is not a Hall of Famer. He was a very impactful role player and he knows that. Yeah. Because he's still an impactful role player on the show. He knows his role. He has to like

coming with analytics and facts. because they're not going to respect him. Because Shaq and Charles Barkley are the other two guys, two of the greatest basketball players of all time. Yeah, all time. Easily. And they can say what they want. And what are you going say they're wrong? You're not one of the 22 players better than them. So if Chuck, Charles Barkley says, oh, this kid isn't playing hard enough,

Like, you know, you can't really like you can debate it but only Shaq could really do it. He only would respect Shaq for saying Shaq like at the end of the day like so they come in with opinions and not facts or not analytics with nothing behind it. It's all what they see what they feel, which is respect again. They're two of the greatest ever do it. But I definitely see why people don't like the show. Yeah, I can understand it. I love it. I think it's very I think so. Yeah, I think I could see what people understand it. Yeah, because

Yes, I get it. Like we made a joke. We make a joke sometimes that Shaq watches doesn't watch the game at all when the game is going on and then he reacts live to the highlights. Next time you're watching inside the NBA, watch how Shaq reacts to the highlights. It's like he's seeing them for the first time. He's always like, Whoa, Whoa. Like Tyler, you hit the three. Oh, bro, did you not see that? Were you not watching that No, not. said he wasn't watching. Yeah. so I think

Like, they're kind of, you're probably like, well, those guys are kind of the same way. They're just takey, right? They do a lot of hot takes and they don't really, you know, have a ton of journalism background. The one thing I'll push back on is say, like, that is a good show. I think it's really produced well. Like, they do a lot of funny bits. They did like a fake sponsor about Chuck trying to lose weight. Like, they just do funny things. Like when Shaq had to pee during one of games.

They brought out a TNT branded porta potty the next day. It's just funny stuff. And that stuff you don't get. And I think especially with the post game show, you don't get that on ESPN right now. And I hope maybe with Amazon and NBC they have better post game shows. honestly, and here's where it's bad for the ESPN post game show. It's core center. ⁓ right. They don't even have post game So for like halftime show, pregame show, when it is those

four guys, like Bob Myers, Perk, Kendrick Perkins, and Stephen A. Like, they're, it's both, they're not funny enough to make it entertaining, but their takes also are terrible. So it's like, what am I watching this for? I'm not gonna learn anything new. Maybe Bob Myers might give me some GM Insight info. But like,

Perk has no idea what he's talking about and he's not funny. Why would I watch? No, we literally, if we're watching the game and it's a halftime, if it's on TNT, we'll watch the halftime show because we want to know. And they're funny and they're entertaining. Whether on ESPN we're trying to go find another game or you'll go shower or something. Like that's the difference. So the fact that Inside the NBA is leaving TNT, you know, it's the same thing. It's, I don't know what it's going to be at ESPN or whatever it's on right now.

a lot of lot of greed a lot of things going on but I hope it ends up being somewhat of a show maybe 80 % I don't know if it will be they say they're gonna have all the rights but you know they just say that yeah it's gonna look so weird I can see it already yeah like it's gonna be like new and fresh yeah they might even have like Stephen A on there and like they don't I don't know if they want that yeah yeah exactly and first of all shout out Charles Barkley he'll never see this but Charles said it that

He was actually going to retire at the end of this year, but once TNT didn't keep the NBA and ESPN was sort of going to take over inside the NBA in order to make sure the show stayed alive, Chuck is going to stay for at least one to two years. And it's actually not even about Chuck himself. He doesn't care. He doesn't really even want to work. He'll tell you that himself, but he said it's for the crew. It's for the people who do things behind the camera each and every day. The people we just talked about on around the horn. So

You know, that's the type of person Charles Barkley is. sometimes we forget that like, oh yeah, if we fire, if we cancel inside the NBA, yeah, Shaq, Kent, they're all fine. Yeah. that's true. They will be. But the crew, man, this is their job. The people behind the scenes, is their everyday They're getting credit for it. They're not getting paid as much as those Oh, not even a fraction. Yeah. I mean, so obviously you just got to like think about them sometimes. And shout out to Charles Barkley for doing that. Yeah. People say he's selfish and he definitely is.

push somebody out of a window. But he is caring in this particular situation. It's a great move by him. No, definitely. And I think all of this stuff we're talking about can kind of be on a bit of a broader theme that change is inevitable in your life. like the only thing you can do is get used to it because

you're never going to be ready for change. Like look at us, we're talking about, we don't want, you know, around a horn to leave. We don't want inside the NBA to change owners, right? Like all that stuff. We're not ready for it. We don't want it to happen, but the only thing you can do with change is get used to it. Being adaptable is one of the most important skills.

and characteristics that you can build for yourself because the lights are never too bright for you, there's no problem too difficult if you're adaptable. You have to be able to change your strategy and just be able to fully adapt to the situation. No, I think that's totally right and it actually hits me on a point. What was the documentary called that we just watched? ⁓

We watched the American Man Hunt on Osama Bin Laden, just came out on Netflix. is right now, last time I checked, was number one TV show on Netflix. Really good. Highly recommend that. Fantastic. We won't go too deep into it for any spoilers, but pretty much- It already happened. Well, no. I mean the show, but yeah. Go on Wikipedia. spoilers. my God. But I think that kind of hits on the change part. They talk about the Navy SEALs when they are preparing to do this mission.

The Navy SEALs didn't know what Osama bin Laden's

compound looked like inside, right? They had an outside view, not an inside view. So they had no idea. they had to practice. It could have been open space. It could have been many walls, many rooms. No idea. There could have been no floors at all. It have been like a warehouse, right? So they had no idea what it looked like. So they had to prepare for all these different situations. So many, they said they practiced maybe 150 different scenarios of a wall being here, a person being there, right? You think, you know, that you're prepared.

You think at that point, I'm good. can't, there's nothing that's going to happen that I won't be prepared for. Until it happens. Mission comes and the first thing is already off. It's already off. wrong. Like they had to land somewhere else because something else happened. Right. And now they're already, some guy was supposed to be on the roof and now he's actually on the like even step one of in a hundred part plan that you've planned out 500 different scenarios for.

doesn't even work and that is what change is all about yes and shout out to admiral mccraven yeah who was it was his job to make sure they were prepared yeah talk about being a good coach and a good leader yeah he said even when because okay so there are two helicopters that went in ⁓ on operation neptune spirit of killa soma vinladin yeah and the first helicopter crashed yep

And everybody's like, my God, what happened? We're done. We're done. We're done. That's It's over. McRaven's like, don't worry. We had a plan B and C and D and E. He was ready. He was ready. He was ready. He was ready. He sent over another helicopter. They were good to go. He said, let's keep going. That was just the start. Then they get inside and everything changed. Like, that is just the point. You need to be prepared for change. And you're never going to know when it happens. You have to just get used to it. You have to continuously plan for

other contingencies. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. mean, it's it. God, it really is. Change is everywhere. Change is inevitable in our lives, in your lives, in every single aspect of your life. What happens one day might change on a whim the next day. How are you going to respond? are you going be ready for it? Are you going to be ready for it? Are you going to be upset that

sports centers leaving or where you gonna find a different show to watch right like are you going to you know be upset that the helicopter landed over here or are you gonna finish your mission you got right gots are you gonna pout about it are you gonna figure it out are you training for a marathon and your first mile doesn't go as well as you wanted to what are you gonna do you know quit you're quit are you gonna figure it out no that's change that's change you have changed everywhere you gotta be for it man

will always be there. It will always be present. It's all about how you react. How many times, how hard can you get hit and still get up? Was that Rocky? Something like that? mean, things are going to change every day. It's all on you to figure out how you're going to improve your life and still roll with the punches. And you know what? Kind of speaking on that, I always see in comments on posts about people who ⁓

post their workout splits or post their what I eat in a day. The comments are always like, how do you stay so motivated? And those comments aren't even for us, but they're for other people. What do you say to that? I think motivation is fleeting. It's not everywhere. think you're thinking the wrong way. They're already asking the wrong question. It's not motivation. It's discipline. Yes. Because you're not going to be motivated pretty much.

most of the time. There's usually, you're usually motivated maybe once a week, if that, right? Like maybe, I would've made a video about not liking to run, yet I still run. I'm running sucks a lot of the times. You don't wanna do it. We're training for half marathon, which you know, that's a whole different story, but you don't wanna run, right? And the discipline of it all is what will actually carry you more than your motivation. Because if you have the discipline, if you know that, hey, I have to do this regardless of how I feel,

and you do it anyway, when you do it when you don't feel well, when you're not motivated, you still get it done. And then when you actually do it when you're feeling motivated, it's like a 10X exponential feeling because you're motivated and you know you've continued to do it, right? That is the difference. People are saying, how do you stick to this? How do you do anything? How do you get a tech job? How do you do that? You have to be disciplined with it all because you're not gonna wanna study different.

tech problems. You're not going to want to go to the gym four days or five days a week and stick to that split and really progressively overload. You're not going to want to run four to five times a week if you're training for a specific time for a half marathon. You're maybe going to want to run once. But the motivation is not what you should be looking at. It's the discipline of it all. Getting yourself to a point where, hey, I don't feel great, but I know I got to do this anyway. And that's the mental fortitude you need. That is how you actually

become motivated is by just being disciplined because as long as you're disciplined on the days you're unmotivated, you will get to one day where you feel motivated and that motivation will and should carry you through those next however long days it takes for you to get motivated again. So you're saying people have it backwards. yeah. Motivation then disciplines, discipline then motivation. Discipline the motivation. I love it. You're going to have to do things when you don't want to do them. And here's another thing about doing that consistently.

things that you don't want to do but you still do. It builds self-confidence. It is self-confidence. If you can prove to yourself that you are what you say you are and you do what you say you're gonna do, who's gonna tell you anything other than No one can stop you. Literally, you can't tell me nothing. I know what I do. I know me better than you know me. How are gonna tell me something? You know what I mean?

So the biggest key when it comes to actually building real lasting self-confidence, set realistic goals, lofty but realistic, and actually follow through.

Chris (43:10)
If you're having the worst day at work, you have to follow through. you're having the best day at work, you still have to follow through.

You can't let what happened to you earlier dictate to what you're gonna do when it comes to upholding your goals. It's motivation is fleeting. And if you're relying on motivation, you will never succeed. You'll never make it. Because we're humans, right? Our body's like chill, relax, sit down. I would just lay down for the rest of my life. That's literally what is human nature, And so if you're waiting to feel motivated, it doesn't happen.

I always see like, how do you stay disciplined? How do you stay disciplined? What do you think? I mean, discipline is just knowing the promises you're going to keep to yourself and sticking to them, knowing you have further goals in the future that the only way you're going to get there is through that discipline. 100%. I think that's what it is, right? It's never going to get you anywhere, or you're never going to even want to be disciplined the rest of your life, but you have to just know that if you keep at it, the more days you stack,

the less people who can stack those days. And if you can just keep going, at some point in your life, you will stack so many days that the people behind you would never have made it. person is mining for gold, right? I don't know if you've seen it, right? Yeah, where the guy is one pick away.

One more day of work away from getting all the riches he ever wanted. Yep. Stops. Yep. On that last day. Turns around. It doesn't know that one more brick, one more pick, one more would bring him all the money he ever won. All the success. And the other person kept going. Yep. Didn't stop regardless of how they felt. Was able to get all the money. I bet you that person enjoyed the journey. Probably did towards the end. That's how it goes. It was worth it because you always enjoy the journey when you make it to the place you want to be. Yeah.

You know, at end of the day, motivation, we have to throw that out of the vernacular, man. We're not talking about motivation anymore. It's all about discipline. It's all about staying committed to the goals that you gave to yourself. And here's another thing about these goals, is that if you tell yourself, you know what, I gotta go to the gym seven days a week. I have to read and go to bed. You're never gonna actually do that. It's not gonna happen, right?

The importance of setting realistic goals is, it's understated because people always are trying to overcompensate by setting goals that are unachievable. 75 hard, do this, all this, all that. Like, no. You don't have to do all that. Just literally just go to the gym, exercise however much is applicable to you, however much you can handle. And do it every time. So that's the thing. If you do it every time,

Maybe you'll add another day or whatever, but you have to actually follow through. And that's where you start building the confidence in yourself because, oh, I did that. I like, instead of saying I want to go to gym, for example, three days a week, say I want to go to the gym Monday, Wednesday, Friday. You got to make it granular enough to I think when it's granular, because then look, your brain's telling you, oh, it's Monday.

and was so good to to the gym three days a week. I still have six extra days. Yeah. days. I'm not gonna go today. No, dude. That's like, that's how you know you're too, you're too deep in it. Yeah. Make it granular, relatively granular. You're going to go to sleep early these days. You want to read a, read 10 pages of a book, which days? Put it down. Don't say I'm going to do it. You're not going to. Cause then if you,

I'll do it tomorrow. I'll do it later. Later is all the same thing. Later doesn't exist. Later doesn't exist. Tomorrow will always be tomorrow. You know what I mean? Even tomorrow, you can say I'll do it tomorrow. Yep. Every time. There will always be a tomorrow. That's why it's so like, ⁓ no tomorrows, no maybe laters. Put the days you want to do the things you want to do. this is again, this is not workout seven days a week. Eat healthy seven days a week.

It's all about moderation, all about what's sustainable for you. So figure that out, and then you can kind of keep it going from there. think that's totally right. That's discipline for you. Discipline will always take you further than motivation.

Discipline is freedom. It frees you to do everything you can. It frees you to do everything you always wanted to. Discipline with your money allows you to do everything, have the greatest house you wanted, have the greatest life you wanted. Discipline with your fitness allows you to live longer than most people and be freeing from diseases. That's it. Live longer but also live better. Quality of life is the most important thing. It's a QOL. I always talk about...

Whenever somebody has a new job, I'm always asking hey, what's a kill? Yeah, what's your kill? Like if you make a lot of money great, I know a lot of people who make a lot of money who aren't happy I don't people a lot, you know, I mean so like it's all about Qo. Mm-hmm Try to get the max of everything that you can do. Yeah, that's a goal in life. That's a goal Any challenges this week? You know, I actually don't challenges I hope you did that's your day over the week

If you currently tell yourself you want to go to the gym X days a week, you want to read X days a week or go to bed early X days a week, make it granular. Actually choose the days you want to do it. Force yourself to believe in yourself. Build that self-confidence. You'll be nothing like nobody will be able to stop you after this.

I love how you said force yourself to believe in yourself. That's the only way. If you don't believe in yourself, you have to force it. Yeah. Force yourself to believe in yourself. Keep the promises you make to yourself and then you'll have all this confidence because you know, hey, I do what I need to do when I need to do. I do what I need to do when I need to do it. Yep. That's it. And who's going to tell me anything otherwise? Nobody. I wish you would. Yeah. So that's my challenge for you guys.

Put days on the calendar, stick to it, and that's all you gotta do. That's discipline. That is discipline. Follow through, people. It isn't easy, but it is simple. And with that, that was episode five. Thank y'all. See y'all next week. Stay locked.
