What is ...But God?

A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”
John 14:26-27 NASB1995

This was the scripture verse of the day for the Bible App. It is a very appropriate follow up to yesterday’s devotional.    There are two items that Jesus expressed in these two verses. He spoke about The Holy Spirit and The Peace of Jesus.
The first is clearly one of the parts of the Holy Trinity, it is The Holy Spirit, “whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”
The Holy Spirit was left for us, it is in us, and if we lean on it, will help us to overcome our obstacles in our way. The Holy Spirit, also will guide us through our difficulties and lead us to, the right words in scripture that will give us encouragement in times of great struggle.
As if that were not enough Jesus also left us His peace. In both the Catholic and Anglican churches they set apart a time in the service to spread this news of peace. The priest or pastor during the service says to the congregation “May the peace of Jesus be with you”.  The congregation responds “And also with you” and the congregation spends 5 minutes going to each person saying “May the peace of Jesus be with you.”
This peace in the Hebrew is called Shalom FirmIsrael.org  describes the meaning  in this way; “an inward sense of completeness or wholeness (a majority of biblical references refer to an inner completeness and tranquility)”
As I mentioned yesterday God made us in his own image and if he cares for the birds of the air and the flowers of the field how much more does He care for us? So much more! The evidence is Him leaving us The Holy Spirit as our guide and protector and The shalom of Jesus which gives us tranquillity, inner completeness and the sense of being whole. God did not design us to do this life alone. If we are relying on ourselves to pick ourselves up by our own bootstraps that’s insanity. If we do that we will be overcome and overwhelmed.
“But God” again in His infinite wisdom has a different plan! He has left us help in the form of The Holy Spirit and The Peace of Jesus. Rest in those two!
Lord, thank you for knowing that we would need the Holy Spirit and The shalom of Jesus. Help us to rest in these. Help us to Draw strength, peace and wisdom from the Holy Spirit. And have joy in our circumstances through the peace of Christ.
Blessings and Shalom. Press in and Press On!
