Under The Radar (indie/underground)
Part 1
Geese – Killing My Borrowed Time
- Just out the past weekend is the new EP from the Brooklyn-based band, titled 4D Country.
- Five songs but getting really positive reviews. Kind of similar to boygenius and their EP out the same day last week, 4D Country would be the left on the cutting room floor follow-up to the very solid 3D Country LP.
- Go check it out if you liked that opener, good stuff once again from a very very good band.
PawPaw Rod – Bonafide
- Another quality mini record out last Friday is the latest from the Oklahoma-based PawPaw Rod titled This Must Be A PawPaw Rod EP.
- All of the EP’s out during Rod’s career have been nice so far, this being no exception. Stylistically the arrangements are an interesting meld of old school instrumental sensibilities and biting lyrics. Check it out if you dug that tune.
Provoker – Little Ghost
- This is a veteran band out of San Francisco out with a new LP called Demon Compass as of last weekend.
- Demon Compass would be the band’s 5th album overall, and as you may have surmised from the title, is a rather dark experience, but if you dug that tune, why not dig deeper all the way to the coffin?
Bombay Bicycle Club feat Chaka Khan – Tekken 2
- Pretty surprising collab here, as the Chicago soul royalty and the London-based indie group teamed up for this single on the band’s latest album My Big Day.
- The 10-time Grammy winner was merely teased previously as a “secret special guest” previous to the album dropping in full. Interestingly, the collab came about when the band was working on the track with Damon Albarn, who just couldn’t quite hit the vocals right, and Albarn suggested Chaka Khan, who agreed to do it.
Wishy – Donut
- In the 2010s, Indiana native Kevin Krauter played in Hoops and then launched a solo career.
- Now he’s back in band configuration with new project Wishy in partnership with fellow singer-songwriter Nina Pitchkites. This would be the band’s debut single, just out over the weekend, so congrats to all involved on that.
Squirrel Flower – Stick
- As discussed on previous shows, this is the solo project of Ella Williams, who’s originally from Boston and is now based in Chicago.
- The artist last Friday just dropped a third album as Squirrel Flower if you wanna take a deeper dive, and that is called Tomorrow’s Fire.
Celia – Taxes
- This is the project of Celia Babin, and congratulations to the artist, as their debut album just dropped over the weekend.
- The album is called Complete In Box, and per the artist’s bio this was written when Celia was on the cusp of adulthood, with the main message being all that we need is already within us.

Part 2
MUNYA – Koko
- One of our favorite artists out of Montreal just dropped a new album as of last Friday called Jardin.
- T/n Jessie Boivin’s 2nd album is right up the chill city pop alley of previous works, and if you’re like us and you’re a big fan you gotta give it a whirl.
Maple Glider – Do You
- Also out as of Friday is I Get Into Trouble, which is the sophomore effort from Aussie singer-songwriter Maple Glider.
- The artist in a statement last week prior to the album dropping said about this song, “For me this song holds the feeling of being frustrated by someone who refuses to see who you are, no matter how much you put yourself in front of them, until eventually, you retreat.”
Paris Paloma – drywall
- This is an artist that truly feels on the cusp of something big. March earlier this year saw a tune called Labour dropped to rave reviews and huge numbers, so we’ll see what happens with this latest tune.
- No announcement yet as far as maybe an EP or album from the Derbyshire-born artist, so we’ll have to wait and see, but already a huge amount of streams on just the spot with all the music every month after only making debut in 2020.
(Crosses) – Last Rites
- In what is without question our favorite album to drop on Friday if we’re only talking about titles, Crosses are out with their sophomore album titled Good Night, God Bless, I Love You, Delete.
- Interestingly, this would be almost a full decade on from Chino Moreno of The Deftones and Far guitarist Shaun Lopez’s debut self-titled record, released in 2014. Good reviews from what I’ve seen thus far, so give it a shout if you dig what’s on deck.
Holographic Haunter – Coco Say Less
- Now, this is a band totally new to nearly everybody, as I got nothing on the biographics aside from the fact that this is the band’s debut single.
- Interesting raw & jangly distantly morose little number coming up here and congrats to the band on this first release, whoever you are
Kate Gregson-MacLeod – September
- This is an artist out of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands who is just out with a new EP called Big Red over the last weekend.
- The EP is highly anticipated after the artist’s 5 track debut EP last year called Songs from the Piano got rave reviews at the end of last year, and I’m sure I’m late to the game in getting a full listen, but it’s been a busy weekend.
A Beacon School – Middle of Winter
- One album we have checked out already and discussed in eager fashion is from this artist, t/n Patrick J Smith, who’s based in NYC.
- This would be Smith’s sophomore album after dropping a debut LP in 2018 called Cola, and there’s a lot of other smaller releases smattered in the discog. Very interesting indie artist to give a deeper dive, we can’t recommend it highly enough.

Part 3
Beirut – The Tern
- Starting with Ben Condon and company here in part 3 tonight, another engaging new single from the upcoming Hadsel LP, which drops Nov 10.
- The record is named after an offshore island in Norway where Condon wrote the songs, and this would be the 2nd single out from the record.
MyKey – Burn
- This is artist Mikey Ambrosio, who’s originally from Maryland and nowadays proving quite popular on the spot with all the music at over half a million monthly streams.
- MyKey is an interesting blend of pop, rock, and folk as you just heard there, and this is part of a real quick-hitter album just out over the weekend called Auto Repair, available everywhere now.
The Beths feat Pickle Darling – Brand New Colony
- Unleashing a surprise collaboration for the 20th anniversary of US indie supergroup The Postal Service’s self-titled album Give Up, NZ natives Pickle Darling and Silver Scroll winners The Beths released this joint over the weekend.
- The song is a cover of 'Brand New Colony' by The Postal Service, and this all is out via Sub Pop.
Karin Ann – favorite star
- Interesting on-the-rise artist out of Slovakia right here, with 2020 seeing Karin Ann drop a first English language release titled 3AM. More recently was the highly acclaimed side effects of being human EP.
- Now we have this as the b side to a new 7” just out over the weekend, and a tune called a stranger with my face graces the near side.
Bad Books – The After Party
- This is part of another 7” that came out last Monday with a tune called It Never Stops on far side.
- For those unfamiliar, this is a project between Manchester Orchestra’s Andy Hull and solist Kevin Devine, who made debut as Bad Books back in 2010.
B77 – Invincible
- This is the latest tune from the Swiss electronic-indie duo known as B77, which is Leopold Schwaller and Luca Carbone.
- Per their bio, the band by exploring their own emotions, twisted thoughts and somewhat childish desires confront us with unconventional melodies and unclear messages, but still achieve connection and resonate.
Shallow Alcove – We’re All Doomed
- Another duo to finish off the hour right here, this being Grace Kirchbaum and Dan Harris, who started out in upstate NY but are now based down south in the city.
- For those who love DIY folk and stacked harmonies, this one’s for you tonight.

Part 4
Adam Melchor – BIGTIMEGOODTIME
- This is part of a self-reflective EP that just dropped on Friday from Melchor, which is actually named after the street the artist currently resides on.
- Melchor in a social media release called the songs “from the heart, for you. i have a lot of conflicting thoughts about promoting music rn, but i hope it gives you some peace and calm in this strange strange time.”
Marika Hackman – Hanging
- This is the 2nd single out from an upcoming album announced with the single’s release.
- For those unaware, Marika Hackman is from Hampshire in England. This weekend Hackman announced Big Sigh, the artist’s fourth album and first in four years, which will be out January 12 via Chrysalis.
- Hackman co-produced the record with Sam Petts-Davies (Thom Yorke, Warpaint) and long-term collaborator Charlie Andrew of Alt-J, playing every instrument except for brass and strings therein.
Husbands – Vangelis
- One of our favorites out of Oklahoma just dropped another one over the weekend.
- Not sure how or if this is related to the singer-songwriter Vangelis, but we’ll just have to leave it at that for now. Definitely a very good band to follow on your streamers.
Stray Fossa X kelz – Playing Strangers
- Very good dream pop trio out of VA & long-time friends on the former artist credited right here, and kelz is another artist we’ve been following rather avidly since first hearing their sound, the project of Kelly Truong.
- Kind of a perfect dreamy east & west coast team-up with these two, as they both like surfing on the waves of your mind.
Late Night Therapy – Fallin’
- Big shouts to Jez Ryan down at Mammal Sounds on the first pair of these last three cuts tonight.
- Late Night Therapy is the completely DIY moniker of Harry Suttor, who’s based down in Australia, with the artist’s bio stating that the end product is the result of an obsessed perfectionist whose only mission is to craft the sounds in their head.
1tbsp – Moth Love
- For those who’ve listened to this show, you’ll know the ARIA-nominated Golden Vessel, also out of Australia, and this is t/n Maxwell Byrne’s side project.
- Byrne states that 1tbsp creates a sound that can be likened to a mix between Daphni, Four Tet and DJ Koze
James Supercave – Still Feel It
- And finally tonight, to keep the bump going well after dark, we have James Supercave’s Still Feel It, which off the LA-based DJ & producer’s album GIMMICK, just out last Friday.
