From The Torch Podcast Network, This is The Chimes Weekly. I’m Matthew, and welcome to our bonus episode. It’s Tuesday, March 17th.
Tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., the 96th annual Clyde and Annabelle Cook Mission Conference will kick off with its theme “Children of Light”. The conference, which was renamed last year to honor the life of former Biola President Clyde Cook and his wife, Anabelle Cook, seeks to educate, equip, and inspire students to embrace their role in the completion of the Great Commission.
Mission Conferences require a lot of preparation, which needs to be planned out and enacted. Mission Conference directors are essential to deciding the theme, overseeing coordinators, and managing the logistics of the conference. This year’s directors are journalism major Katie Regains and Biology major Gaby Cole. They sat down with reporters from the Chimes Media Group to talk about this year’s Missions Conference and the behind-the-scenes planning that went into it.
First, the directors discussed this year’s theme, which is Children of Light. Cole said that the theme …
Regains expanded on Cole’s thoughts, explaining the importance of being “children of light” before being sent out for missions…
Based on the theme, the directors shared their hopes for how students will continue to reflect on this theme after the conference.
And even if you are a student who doesn’t have a calling to go into traditional missionary work, Regains believes that the theme applies to all students. Fulfilling the Great Commission is not limited to overseas missionaries.
The directors then talked about their experience of planning the conference, which was a process that began last summer.
Regains said that the idea of missions is changing for this generation of students, so they hope through the theme…
And for those interested in local missions, the directors suggested resources for students who feel called to that area.
