[00:02:18 - 00:02:24] Well, let me start by saying that this is my favorite piece of media ever like I love this universe

[00:02:29 - 00:02:33] These characters Aang, Sokka, Tof, Katara, and Zuko are like my favorite characters ever
[00:02:34 - 00:02:36] And it's my favorite show
[00:02:37 - 00:02:40] Severance is number two. So so got some taste. Yeah
[00:02:41 - 00:02:47] I doubt you. Well, let's see how it hurts, but yeah, I would do what's your third third show. Yeah

[00:03:10 - 00:03:12] I was in sixth grade. I was 12 and they were like, dude, you have to watch the show
[00:03:12 - 00:03:15] and I was like, I don't want to watch it cuz like it looks like anime and
[00:03:16 - 00:03:19] Watch it. I did and I
[00:03:19 - 00:03:20] I
[00:03:20 - 00:03:25] Just fell in love with it and it's so good and I probably
[00:03:25 - 00:03:27] rewatch it once a year
[00:03:27 - 00:03:32] Me and Grant watched it. We watched it this past year. Yeah, this past year slash like
[00:03:33 - 00:03:36] It kind of took us a long time to get through. It did take us a long time because I was kind of cooked schedule-wise
[00:03:36 - 00:03:42] Yeah, getting engaged and finishing school. But since then which we finished it when you think like a
[00:03:43 - 00:03:44] few months ago
[00:03:44 - 00:03:49] Like yeah, it wasn't that long ago, but since then I rewatched the whole thing with my wife
[00:03:49 - 00:03:55] Yes, and she loved it. Yes, so drew so now you have to watch it with me. No, I'm just
[00:03:56 - 00:04:03] Sure, I'll watch it with you. No, but look really quick. Yes, you had to sum up for maybe drew and then for our viewers
[00:04:04 - 00:04:09] One reason one brief reason why you love avatar the last day of the show. What would you say?

[00:04:16 - 00:04:22] Think it's the character arcs and the world building. Yep. If you if you have watched the show
[00:04:23 - 00:04:26] Zuko's character arc is probably the best character arc and
[00:04:27 - 00:04:30] Maybe ever it is so good
[00:04:30 - 00:04:35] You just really fall in love with these characters and this duo of what not duo like this
[00:04:38 - 00:04:40] Hamad's is that the right word?
[00:04:41 - 00:04:44] Well, yeah, so my words so my line
[00:04:45 - 00:04:51] But I don't know you just you fall in love with aang and like he starts out. It's just like a really goofy kid that
[00:04:52 - 00:04:54] Saka and Katara found in the iceberg
[00:04:55 - 00:05:01] And then you really start to fall in love with them three and like Zuko's the main villain and you like kind of like Uncle
[00:05:01 - 00:05:02] Iro and you're like I like this guy
[00:05:02 - 00:05:05] But he's still a villain and his character arc is great
[00:05:05 - 00:05:10] And so I think it's the character arcs and the world bending world bending world building. Let's go
[00:05:11 - 00:05:19] but the bending is like super cool element of that and like I think the avatar concept is a super interesting one and the avatar cycle and
[00:05:22 - 00:05:24] Yeah, so I would say that that's why okay
[00:05:24 - 00:05:30] I would say just to add on very briefly that I think the storytelling is built on
[00:05:30 - 00:05:37] Yes, the characters and their relationships with each other which that sounds like oh, yeah, of course it is
[00:05:39 - 00:05:45] How many pieces of media don't actually do that, but like it's such a core part of the three seasons of avatar
[00:05:45 - 00:05:49] Yeah, absolutely, and I think that's why it's held up over 20 years
[00:05:49 - 00:05:53] So that's my favorite thing and upon my second watch recently
[00:05:53 - 00:05:53] I was like man
[00:05:53 - 00:05:58] I love that about the show and I generally think it's one of the best written stories
[00:05:58 - 00:06:05] At least put the kind of the screen maybe ever so I'd be it might sound like glaze, but it's worthy of it

[00:06:43 - 00:06:48] Well first I thought it was did a and this might have been annoying if you are an avatar fan
[00:06:48 - 00:06:55] But for someone who is not I got all the information I needed about the world in about seven minutes
[00:06:55 - 00:07:01] I was like great. I'm on board. Yeah, I have enough lore understanding to be like I get why everything matters
[00:07:01 - 00:07:03] Yes, so that was super helpful
[00:07:05 - 00:07:08] But I enjoyed this movie a lot I thought the animation was great
[00:07:08 - 00:07:13] Yes, it is very good. Visually this movie looked phenomenal. I thought the characters
[00:07:14 - 00:07:21] Were good. There was a lot of inside jokes. I didn't get but that's probably because I haven't seen the show

[00:08:03 - 00:08:09] I saw it in the fridge when I filled up this water bottle doing like a lunchbox for your senior year
[00:08:09 - 00:08:14] Yeah, so it's like my class is getting like a lot of people have spider-man my girlfriend is getting plenty the poo

[00:08:31 - 00:08:37] I've seen every piece of avatar media put out except the second season of the live-action show

[00:09:33 - 00:09:37] I loved it the inside jokes warms my heart
[00:09:37 - 00:09:40] It just made me really happy to see my favorite characters on screen again
[00:09:40 - 00:09:42] and to be together and to face
[00:09:44 - 00:09:46] evil together
[00:09:46 - 00:09:48] and
[00:09:48 - 00:09:52] I still thought like I agree with Drew that this movie is very accessible
[00:09:53 - 00:09:59] For people who haven't seen the show and I think that's the point and why a lot of avatar fans have gripes with it
[00:09:59 - 00:10:01] Which we can get into later
[00:10:01 - 00:10:03] But overall I thought it was great
[00:10:03 - 00:10:07] The animation was just gorgeous. It finally got some animation that the show deserves
[00:10:08 - 00:10:10] and
[00:10:11 - 00:10:17] Yeah, so it was great. I loved it and it was fun because I went over to Grant and Pauly's house and they made me like a
[00:10:18 - 00:10:20] Ghibli slash avatar
[00:10:22 - 00:10:24] It was great
[00:10:24 - 00:10:30] Was I not invited well, you know, you probably had something you did you were like I have work and so you wouldn't buy

[00:10:31 - 00:10:38] No, but I agree with everything you said Luke and you drew like I think I have issues with this movie from like
[00:10:39 - 00:10:41] There's smaller issues and they don't ruin the movie. I had a great time
[00:10:41 - 00:10:46] I think the animation is genuinely incredible like I this might sound like glaze
[00:10:46 - 00:10:52] But if we're talking about modern animation, I think it's kind of on par with something like listen boots or absolutely
[00:10:52 - 00:10:54] I even say spider-verse and like that sounds crazy
[00:10:55 - 00:10:59] It's not the same type of animation, but I think I think it's very high quality. I agree. It's very high quality

[00:11:02 - 00:11:07] But it is a shame that this was leaked and also we didn't get to see it in theaters
[00:11:07 - 00:11:10] I did think that I was like this movie would have been sick in theaters

[00:11:14 - 00:11:19] This wasn't put in theaters because like I watched this movie as like my 12-year-old self
[00:11:20 - 00:11:25] And I really would have loved to see this in theaters. So and it's really sad. I got leaked online
[00:11:25 - 00:11:28] I didn't watch it when it got leaked because I wanted yeah, I didn't either came out
[00:11:29 - 00:11:35] Simitation was there because it was and everybody was watching I was like now I feel left out and I saw clips of it

[00:11:38 - 00:11:42] Yeah, I think that the issues that I have are not they don't break the movie for me

[00:15:17 - 00:15:23] I want to hear all your thoughts to hear about what you really liked about yes, please after I think I liked
[00:15:24 - 00:15:28] I really I mean again, I kind of said this in the non-spoiler portion, but I like the tension between
[00:15:29 - 00:15:32] Taga yep, Taga. Yes and ang
[00:15:33 - 00:15:37] um, again, this is this movie establishes the
[00:15:37 - 00:15:45] Culture of the airbenders enough to understand why there is tension. Yes, and
[00:15:46 - 00:15:48] Yeah, just the whole tension of like
[00:15:49 - 00:15:52] The earthbenders kill Taga's people the firebenders kill ang's people
[00:15:54 - 00:15:57] Like that's super interesting. You completely understand where Taga is coming from when he's like
[00:15:59 - 00:16:02] Hey, I'm gonna do everything I can to protect my people. Yeah. Oh, absolutely
[00:16:02 - 00:16:06] And like restart his people right and he wants the same thing right it's like
[00:16:07 - 00:16:09] They come from different backgrounds a little bit
[00:16:09 - 00:16:14] I think in general in storytelling when you have your antagonists and your protagonists want the same thing
[00:16:14 - 00:16:16] That is an incredibly interesting
[00:16:17 - 00:16:23] Thing I would just to watch yep, and then when ang makes the ultimate sacrifice of breaking the stick
[00:16:23 - 00:16:31] Not the ultimate sacrifice, but well sacrifice in the movie. It is an ultimate sacrifice. Um, I thought that was super good
[00:16:32 - 00:16:36] So themes and plot. I was super on board with okay
[00:16:36 - 00:16:39] That's cool. Yeah grant. I want to hear your thoughts
[00:16:39 - 00:16:43] Well, I guess starting with likes because I have a lot of likes obviously talked about the animation and stuff
[00:16:44 - 00:16:46] I think you'll probably talk about this too, luke
[00:16:47 - 00:16:52] But the gang feels like the gang like zuko feels like older zuko
[00:16:52 - 00:16:57] Um, I mean same with by steven yun, right? Yes shout out. Yeah
[00:16:57 - 00:17:01] Um, and then soca feels like older soca top definitely feels like older top
[00:17:02 - 00:17:06] Every moment top is on screen. I'm like that is top if she was 25 like yeah, that's that's accurate
[00:17:06 - 00:17:10] Um and say with aing guitar and you know, I think everybody
[00:17:10 - 00:17:16] Feels like the same characters. They didn't break the universe. They didn't do a disservice to any of the characters
[00:17:16 - 00:17:19] So like from that aspect, I really appreciated this movie
[00:17:20 - 00:17:24] Um, I think also there was a lot of talk kind of before this movie came out
[00:17:25 - 00:17:32] Or was leaked or whatever like is this voice cast just gonna ruin it because like the voice cast from the show is so distinct and has
[00:17:33 - 00:17:35] Is very like zuko for example
[00:17:35 - 00:17:41] Has a yeah very set distinct voice. Yes the voice cast here still it still feels like the characters
[00:17:41 - 00:17:43] Like steven yun is a great job as zuko like yes
[00:17:43 - 00:17:46] It still feels like zuko if he was a little older same with aing and guitar and top like
[00:17:47 - 00:17:52] Everybody still feels like them. So yeah, I appreciated that a ton. Um, I think
[00:17:53 - 00:17:58] As someone who like isn't super in the avatar universe. It still feels like
[00:17:59 - 00:18:03] An expansion of the world where they could um like
[00:18:03 - 00:18:09] They expanded it at least from the initial show, which I think more people have seen avatar than kora
[00:18:09 - 00:18:14] Um, it still feels like an expansion there a little bit. Um, so does a good job there. I mean
[00:18:15 - 00:18:17] Did the the music's great?
[00:18:17 - 00:18:22] Technically this movie's incredible. Yeah, same guy who did the avatar school
[00:18:22 - 00:18:27] Which is cool. It is awesome. Um, yeah, and then again visually it was like every single frame
[00:18:27 - 00:18:30] I was like, this is so beautiful. Um, I have some gripes
[00:18:31 - 00:18:37] But I want to save those when we talk about gripes. So luke any likes that you had? Um, yeah, I would say
[00:18:38 - 00:18:42] The gang for sure. I mean I these are my favorite characters
[00:18:42 - 00:18:48] I thought it was so funny when ang sends out all the messenger hawks and uh, well two of them
[00:18:49 - 00:18:52] Well, I guess all three of the interactions were super funny
[00:18:52 - 00:18:57] But socos was really funny when he starts talking about like, yeah, me and avatar ang like oh my gosh
[00:18:57 - 00:19:02] I was so impressed and it like does like the montage of him like super jacked and like kids are like this and like
[00:19:03 - 00:19:06] I was hilarious. Um, I think my favorite one was when
[00:19:07 - 00:19:12] Zuko gets kids and that might have been the funniest thing in the whole movie straight out. That was so funny
[00:19:12 - 00:19:13] and he's like

[00:25:48 - 00:25:53] Um, I grew up a little bit more on clone wars, but like so same-ish time period
[00:25:53 - 00:25:56] I grew up on the show even though it I didn't grow up on it coming out
[00:25:56 - 00:26:01] But like the people who are like grew up on the show and our fans of it are in their 20s and 30s at this point like
[00:26:02 - 00:26:05] I mean, I'm in my 20s. Um, so
[00:26:05 - 00:26:08] Who do you think this movie is for like do you think it's for
[00:26:09 - 00:26:11] New avatar fans because it kind of feels like it's for new avatar fans
[00:26:12 - 00:26:17] But I have a feeling most of the people who are going to be watching this are old avatar fans

[00:26:38 - 00:26:45] Shout out macguffins. We lost all my line macguffin. Um, the the staff of sonam. Yes, we have to go get this staff

[00:26:50 - 00:26:51] avatar
[00:26:51 - 00:26:55] It in the show it's all about these inner character dynamics and like yes
[00:26:55 - 00:26:56] They go on different adventures and stuff
[00:26:56 - 00:26:58] But like what makes the show good is when
[00:26:59 - 00:27:01] Ang and Katara have tension or toffin Katara
[00:27:02 - 00:27:04] Whenever he has tension with Katara. No, I'm just
[00:27:04 - 00:27:06] But like with Zuko
[00:27:06 - 00:27:11] Yeah, really, but when like Zuko and iro like they have a whole relationship there
[00:27:11 - 00:27:18] Um, obviously Zuko and Azula Zuko and Katara Zuko and Ang like Zuko and his dad
[00:27:18 - 00:27:22] And the show really gets good when you get into these inner character dynamics
[00:27:23 - 00:27:26] There's a moment in this that stuck out to me that like kind of frustrated me
[00:27:27 - 00:27:31] And it's when ang chooses to go with taka and he's like hey
[00:27:31 - 00:27:35] Even though we've like almost crashed our ship and this adventure really sucks
[00:27:35 - 00:27:40] We're gonna keep going and Katara's like no, I don't want to do that and ang's like we're going anyway
[00:27:41 - 00:27:45] That would have been a great moment to start getting into this inner character tension between ang and like
[00:27:46 - 00:27:49] Literally the mother of his future children. Well, I think they're married at this point
[00:27:49 - 00:27:53] Yes, but like this is the person that ang is with his whole life and has kids with
[00:27:53 - 00:27:57] and said we can't just gloss over that and they keep going and
[00:27:58 - 00:28:02] Katara just hugs him later and and when she follows taka
[00:28:03 - 00:28:05] She's like, I know what type of airbender ang is
[00:28:06 - 00:28:08] And then like kind of forgiving him in that moment
[00:28:09 - 00:28:13] Which I didn't hate because like she cares a lot about ang and she start
[00:28:13 - 00:28:16] She starts talking to talk about hope of course
[00:28:17 - 00:28:19] Which they poke fun at but
[00:28:21 - 00:28:21] No, no, no, you're great
[00:28:21 - 00:28:23] I think like
[00:28:23 - 00:28:29] And then with some of the main characters of avatar get sidelined like I'm glad that toff gets her moments zuko gets
[00:28:29 - 00:28:33] His moments, although I would have loved more zuka didn't really get that many moments
[00:28:33 - 00:28:36] I know and then although when he said face your death with honor. I was like, yep, let's go
[00:28:36 - 00:28:42] There's there's the honor. Um, that was sick. And like, yeah, like socket gets moments like it's great
[00:28:42 - 00:28:46] But I really wish they would have been more involved in the story itself and like
[00:28:46 - 00:28:51] I wish they would have gotten into arguments as the gang like I wish they there was tension between them and there just wasn't
[00:28:52 - 00:28:54] Um, they kind of just felt like they were along for the ride
[00:28:54 - 00:29:00] So I think that's where my biggest stripes are and they they maybe stem a little bit from like the show is
[00:29:01 - 00:29:03] Like
[00:29:03 - 00:29:07] Yes, it's important. But for this movie, it's not actually that important. It's not

[00:29:10 - 00:29:14] Because to me being completely green in this world

[00:29:21 - 00:29:25] If hypothetically this went to theaters and did well and whatever and maybe we'll still do this but

[00:29:34 - 00:29:36] Late group of people from what's the city called?
[00:29:37 - 00:29:42] The republic city yeah from the republic city or whatever and that feels very like

[00:29:45 - 00:29:49] Not that this has to be PG-13 or whatever, but like this is a PG movie

[00:29:53 - 00:29:58] The younger generation. Yes, just based on kind of feel and vibe. Yes, so this feels to me like

[00:30:39 - 00:30:42] Zuko really trying to like pull the fire nation together
[00:30:43 - 00:30:49] Even a decade later like I mean we still do that in some areas with aang trying to restore the airbenders
[00:30:49 - 00:30:55] But also we know the aang doesn't like in core aang has not restored the airbenders through the staff
[00:30:55 - 00:30:57] Like we know this doesn't work
[00:30:58 - 00:31:01] So I don't know like I I think that's where my issues lie a little bit of like
[00:31:02 - 00:31:05] I might have preferred a little bit more mature serious movie
[00:31:06 - 00:31:09] Also, I low key would have loved this movie 20 minutes longer. Yeah

[00:34:25 - 00:34:28] I feel like that's wild. That would be crazy. That's crazy. That's funny
[00:34:29 - 00:34:34] No, but they meet this old lady named hama and she's from the southern water tribe
[00:34:34 - 00:34:39] Which guitar is from and the whole thing with the guitar is that she is the only water bender in the southern water tribe
[00:34:39 - 00:34:42] And so she's like, oh my gosh, I met another water tribe person
[00:34:42 - 00:34:45] Kind of like with ang and tauga, which I didn't make that connection until now
[00:34:46 - 00:34:51] And so guitar really looks up to hama, but there's this dark thing about hama. Oh my gosh
[00:34:51 - 00:34:53] Just kind of just the same episode. Um
[00:34:54 - 00:34:55] hama is
[00:34:55 - 00:34:56] has been
[00:34:56 - 00:35:00] Taking people like taking out her revenge on the fire nation because she was in prison for forever
[00:35:00 - 00:35:05] And she learned how to bloodbend and that can only do this was a yes, and she could only do it
[00:35:06 - 00:35:09] On um a full moon when the
[00:35:09 - 00:35:12] Water penders powers must strong, but katara
[00:35:13 - 00:35:17] Is so goaded that she can do it at any time that and also show. Yes
[00:35:18 - 00:35:20] Well, okay, she doesn't do it often at this point
[00:35:20 - 00:35:26] In her bending journey when she's 25 in the movie, but she does do it outside of a full moon in the show
[00:35:26 - 00:35:30] No, it's staring a full moon and no not on the southern raiders episode. Yeah, it is
[00:35:31 - 00:35:36] Oh, I guess I didn't know that because that night and I'm pretty sure it's only or it's like close to a full moon
[00:35:36 - 00:35:39] But I'm missing a set detail. Um, no, you're good. Um
[00:35:39 - 00:35:45] But yeah, she is a very powerful waterbender and hama taught her that like you can take water of anything
[00:35:45 - 00:35:50] And there's a scene where hama like weighs her hand and her fingers start to freeze out of like the humidity in the air
[00:35:50 - 00:35:52] And that she freezes that water. Katara bends her own sweat
[00:35:53 - 00:35:58] Like there are multiple instances of her pulling water out of things when she quote unquote runs out of water
[00:35:58 - 00:36:00] Yes, but I think why
[00:36:01 - 00:36:03] Because if someone's not
[00:36:03 - 00:36:06] Thinking like drew him like oh, there's water in humans
[00:36:06 - 00:36:10] Then like a kid is going to be like, oh, she's out of water. She can't bend anymore
[00:36:10 - 00:36:14] Yeah, if like I think that's why I don't have left field. Katara just started pulling water from the air
[00:36:14 - 00:36:19] She'd be like why can't you do that? I would be like what like that's kind of random. Yeah, but

[00:36:25 - 00:36:29] If when soca comes in that's a great moment. By the way, it's super funny. Um
[00:36:30 - 00:36:33] But he like comes in and saves them and drops the water and then they all three strike

[00:36:36 - 00:36:42] If like Katara like did something just like there was water around her and like was still fighting but they like

[00:37:26 - 00:37:32] But seasons one and especially three I would say that season three of course just as good as season two of avatar
