Hello, listeners and hopefully space explorers, and welcome to our space mystery. I’ll be your captain, and today we have a mission. Our space robot, Robo, is lost! Can you help me find him?
Join me in a special mystery story. Our story has 4 parts, and so our story needs four titles. Titles help us imagine what each part means.
Are you ready to take off? Here we go!
Three… two… one… Blast off!
The Problem
Can you believe it? We ‘re flying in a rocket through the big, dark space. Wait. I see something on the control screen. There’s a small red light. Let me get a closer look. It says: Robo has left the space station.
Where did he go? Maybe he is on the Moon, or maybe he is on Mars. We need to look for clues.
First Clue
The moon is quickly approaching. Let’s land on the moon.
The Moon is white and very quiet. I see little robot footprints in the dust! Footprints are a good clue. Look! They go behind a big rock.
But—oh! The footprints stop here. Robo is not on the Moon.Where could he be? Do you think Robo is on a planet? Hmm… let’s fly again!
Second Clue
We are coming up on Mars. I think we should touch down here. Mars is red and dry and dusty. The wind is strong here.
I hear a sound. Is it Robo? No, it is only a small space bird. Let’s look around. Hold up! On the ground. There’s something shiny on the ground. It is Robo’s screwdriver! Another clue! Robo must be close.
Mystery Solved
There’s a faint trail here by the screwdriver. It leads to that little hill over there. I’m surprised the trail is here at all with the wind. Let’s go explore that hill. It’s not so easy to climb over this hill and get to the other side in this wind. I hope we’re on the right track. And guess what? There is Robo! He is building something. He sees us. He’s waving.
“Hello, Robo!”
“What are you building? What is that small silver box?”
There’s a new rocket engine inside the box. He wanted to surprise us. What a nice robot.
Thank you, explorers, for joining in on my space exploration - mystery solved! We found Robo! Now it’s time to get us all home, all washed up and rested. But first, I have some questions for you.
True or False:
We look on Mars first for Robo. – False, we look on the moon! We find a screwdriver on the moon. – False, again. We find footprints.
We see a little red light in our spaceship that tells us about Robo. – True! (It says Robo has left.
We found other life on Mars. – Also true – a space bird!
Robo is in trouble when we find him. – False, he’s not in trouble. He’s building a surprise.
Your homework: Draw a book cover picture – maybe with Robo or a rocket. Write a title for this story. Show your picture and book title to your English coach or family member.
