Rav Shlomo Katz delves into the wisdom of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov zy"a
חודש טוב everybody, אמן כן יהי רצון. This is our last, our last שיעור for the month of סיוון, and the last time we're going to get yeah, this is זהו. Actually Sunday, one second, Sunday the kids are still in school, right? I'll let you know, I'll let you know, בעזרת השם. Um, so סיוון sponsored by the Silver family in memory of בתיה פיגה בת ישראל, by the Sassons לעילוי נשמת פנחס מנחם בן אברהם דוד, by the Aaron family לעילוי נשמת לוי בן יוסף, by the Paulsteins לעילוי נשמת פרידה סימא בת יצחק.
So if you ever ליקוטי מוהר"ן, if you could open up the תורה צ"א, but I do have pages here for whoever needs. I have the printing of, yeah, for whoever needs. And before we say, there's so many things I want to share with you. There's so many things I לבי לבי אומר לי that my heart is telling to me.
And I just hope בסיעתא דשמיא that a little bit of what the heart feels is able to come out in today's שיעור. I דווקא wanted to end the זמן, learning a very basic and important teaching from ליקוטי מוהר"ן, on אמונה, on faith. Because I'm sure you feel like me, that במה אנו אוחזים? What are we holding on to? So, I want to share with you briefly something that I said yesterday morning after דאווענען, that has been holding me. That I said it, I think I said it for me.
But I know that it also held on, it gave a lot of people a lot. And therefore I wanna I want to express it over here too. So, right now, I feel like we're all living in such a state of fog. And it is such a confusing time to be alive right now.
And I think that a lot of it has to do with that none of us thought we'd feel like this at this point in life. None of us expected that as a result of what happened, we'd we'd be feeling what we're feeling right now. Then you see people that they're screaming at you and saying, what are you talking about? This is the greatest, you know, this is the craziest thing in the world that's ever happened. You got to be dancing your brains out and saying, הלאל שלם three times a day and you know, scream out to the world.
This was the great, you know. And you want and those are those are people you can't stand being around either. So where where where is it? What what is the what is the blueprint of this? This is not the first time this has happened. Where when we thought we'd feel a certain thing, and we don't feel it.
This is not the first time. And yesterday we said that we have a reference to this in the תורה. It says that when עם ישראל were coming out of מצרים, the word that's used to describe the exodus is a word of of sorrow and of pain. And that's the word ויהי.
Where it says ויהי בשלח פרעה את העם. And everyone's asking, why does it say ויהי over there? It should say והיה because אין ויהי אלא לשון צער. When the word ויהי is mentioned that's a framework of of pain. והיה is a language of שמחה.
So what are you saying to me? ויהי when it comes to when it comes to such a situation of leaving מצרים should be the greatest joy in the world. So, ר' שלמה taught that and it's based on a the the the many צדיקים that we had a certain image in our mind of what it was going to look like and feel like when we would come out of מצרים. And even then the expectations weren't met. And this happens to us quite often in life when we know or we assume or we believe that good things are going to be happening.
We also assume that we know exactly how what it's going to look like, what it's going to feel like, what it's going to sense, everything. And that is קטני אמונה, it's a very lower low level of faith. Because we're basically telling the ריבונו של עולם, okay, this is this is the way that this is what miracles are. This is what joy is.
So where does it leave us? It leaves us to be in a place of a wonderful moment to say to השם, I not only did I have אמונה throughout this whole process, and I continue to, I even have אמונה that takes me away from saying and dictating to you and to myself השם, what it's supposed to look like and what it's supposed to feel like. Which leads us perfectly to our to our to our topic of today. ממש in a very, uh, very straightforward way. Because just to re just to reiterate a certain point, obviously had we known, had we been told a few weeks ago that everything that took place over the past few weeks would have taken place, right? Had all these things been told to us, what do you think you would have said? What's that? You'd say no way.
But if I told you that it was going to happen then what would you what would you say? How would you predict your experience of it? What would you say about yourself that you'd be in what state of mind would you be in? Miracle. Huh? Miracle. Miracle, which would lead to you feeling what? Grateful. Grateful.
What else? Joyous what? Awe. What else? מאוד. What else would you feel? Euphoric. Euphoric, right? Who's feeling euphoric? What other feelings? Traumatized, even if I told you that everything that happened beforehand would happen? All the all the amazing good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I just not knowing what was going to happen. No, no, no. I'm tell we're describing a situation of this is going to like we're going to come out the other side.
And we're going to come out the other side, then what would you say, how would you predict your feel like what would you say would be your probable experience of the whole matter? Unbelievable redemption. A lot, a lot, a lot, right? And you know, Neil Young has a song, it's in one of his early, early songs, it's called the title is, bad fog of loneliness. I remember I'm refusing to listen to that song right now, it's going to take me even deeper to a a place of fog. Bad fog of loneliness.
It's a very strange, strange, strange feeling. Um, very, very strange. So with zero judgment on ourselves or on others as to how they are experiencing what they're experiencing, this is the teaching I wanted to learn today to end the to end this man with. Um this is the 91st teaching in ליקוטי מוהר"ן, תורה צדיק א'.
in ליקוטי מוהר"ן. It's a short piece. It's very beautiful, it's very straightforward, but it's also very much me, I believe, at least for me, it's very, very much מחזק, very מחזק. And the רבי begins this teaching by quoting the פסוק that we have in פרשת בשלח, ויהי ידו אמונה עד בו השמש.
That's a reference to when משה רבינו as יהושע was leading עם ישראל במלחמה with with עמלק and then משה רבינו goes up to the nearby hilltop and uh פרש ידיו, and he lifts up his hands, right? And we know that and it's עד בו השמש means until literally it means until sunset, like the whole day, his hands were ממש up like this. So, there's a a lot to say on this, but it's all I want to stick to how ר' נחמן explains this. I mean, what else could שמש refer to? On a דרש level, what else could what else could the sun refer to? So, in ר' נחמן's teachings, שמש refers to חכמה, wisdom, actually. In many of the teachings, שמש refers to חכמה, which hopefully we'll have a chance to go deeper into that.
Obviously, שמש, עד בו השמש could also mean, you know, the the dawn of a new day, you know, גאולה. But there was an action that was done until whatever this שמש represents. And that's why he ידו אמונה that the hands were the hands were spread like this. ויהי ידו אמונה עד בו השמש.
Okay, now let's go inside. כי יש כמה מיני אמונה. There are various degrees of faith. יש אמונה שהוא רק בלב.
There is אמונה that exists, but it's only in the heart. והעיקר שצריך להיות לאדם אמונה כל כך עד שתתפשט בכל האיברים. For anyone that's read סלונים, you've seen this teaching many times in the נתיב שלום that explains that the highest level of faith is אמונת האיברים. Here, this is very much connected to it.
What does it mean that I only have what does it mean to have faith in my heart? What would you say that means? I have faith in my לב in my heart. When you could think of, you could definitely take yourself back to so many different moments in the last few weeks and uh and remember when your heart started to beat a little bit faster than what it did a second before that annoying That's the one thing, ברוך השם like only שמחה I have these days is that that horrific initial warning is not popping out of our phone, that sound that אוי just that. But what does it mean that you have אמונה only in your heart like it starts in the heart? What does it mean to have faith in the heart? What do you think that means? you have faith, you have faith. I don't know what so I think it means the little far from us.
Like it's like a theory. Right then the everything it's like a feeling. if I Right, so it exists. Now אמונה in the heart, does that mean that you have אמונה in the in the mind? But do you even need אמונה in the mind? I agree.
I I very much agree. I'm trying to just to understand. I want to like ממש on a פשט level ר' נחמן says there's a אמונה that's just in the heart, but the עיקר is that the אמונה has to be so great that it has to spread itself to all of its איברים. To all of its limbs, to to all of our limbs, to every part of us.
You know, I was learning a teaching yesterday that said like this. What was the whole point of ספר במדבר? ספר במדבר is a ספר that we're going into ארץ ישראל. And what did we know once we went into ארץ ישראל that we didn't know before? What is it that we know? What what changed? And what are we learning from all the people, big people that keep on falling in in ספר במדבר. And it's that, I think it's very connected to this.
קרח didn't have faith in his heart? Of course he did. The מרגלים didn't have faith in their heart? Of course they did. When מרים and אהרון did what however that's understood what happened to them in פרשת בעלותך speaking of משה רבינו, they didn't have faith in their heart? Of course they did. When משה רבינו hit the rock he didn't have faith? Of course he did.
But what's the עניין of of the דור that has to come into ארץ ישראל? Is that it has to be completely permeated. Like the קדושה and אמונה has to be completely completely taking you. All of you, everything. And we're learning all these different all these different עניינים all these different people throughout ספר במדבר that they are the greatest of the great, but even they had places where the קדושה wasn't מתפשט בכל האיברים.
Now, it seems even blasphemous to say this about someone like משה רבינו. But if there was אמונה in every איבר of משה רבינו, the חידושי הרים says that the only way we could even speak like this is because the תורה gave us רשות to try to understand this because it told us about this. not חס ושלום to speak by משה רבינו. If there was אמונה in משה רבינו's arm at the moment that he struck the at the moment that he thought of striking the the the rock, he wouldn't have.
If there was אמונה in קרח's it's again I'm only saying this because the תורה provides presents it before us to understand something from it. not חס ושלום to send any other way. If there was a in in in the vision, they had an in everything. Their heart, everything, but their eyes lack the.
By what would you say what part of him lack the? What do you mean? But everything else could be that he was completely you know's job was, right? What was his gig? What did he do? No say they carried the, right? they carried the. So you can even carry the and is still not completely permeated within so saying I I know that everyone's scared to attempt to become a perfectionist in things, out of fear of failure and then disappointment, which will then lead to self to to to to self uh persecution and so on. But the goal is to reach a place that the spreads to all limbs. Now it's there's something important here to realize over here.
When it says it to us there that put his hands up like this, right? Now, when you go like this, right? Where do you reach higher than? your head your head. So is going there's a big big deep that's going on over here just by this action. Okay, now let's go back inside. You could say that.
Yeah. Yeah. You could definitely say that. That's that's the this is the this is where this is the world we woke up to yesterday yesterday and so on.
time is this is the world we woke up. No, Tuesday morning we we were waking up in the bomb shelters. Yesterday morning. Yeah.
Yeah. Again, ויהי יד אמונה עד בו השמש כי יש כמה מיני אמונה. יש אמונה שהוא רק בלב. that's not enough.
והעיקר שצריך להיות לאדם אמונה כל כך עד שתתפשט בכל האיברים. כמו שמובא בכסבי האר"י, שצריך להגביע ידו בשעת נטילה נגד הראש כדי לקבל הקדושה. we can't go into this too much, but there's the explains how there is around every single food, any single מאכל that we eat. and in order for us to be able to attain a level of eating בקדושה, we have to eat with a certain level of higher higher consciousness.
So we lift up our hands before we eat and at that moment according to the we the that's around the food that's waiting for us back down here. It's a nutshell of all nutshell because I don't want to go too much into there, but the same action is taking place. When was waging war against as well. is the of all.
And was putting his hands up over there. נמצא שצריך לזה אמונה בידיים. Therefore you have to have a in your hands להאמין שמחמת שמגביע ידו כנגד הראש מקבל הקדושה. You know, as a I have to practice this every single day.
Because so there are mornings where I really I mean, I I I say myself I feel so bad for this because these are the this is the that's blessing them. if you're real with yourself, you don't wake up every morning saying how lucky are these people that who I hope I never feel like that, right? But there's a there's a process that one goes through when they go like that, right? Because the supposed to lift up his hands and do the same thing. So you have to kind of in a in a small way not a small way, whatever it is. you have to have in the in the in your.
You have to have an in your hands. But the in the hands, hands usually represent and when I go like that, what does it represent? I say I So therefore again, you have to have in your hands. you receiving a certain world of. כי בלא אמונה אינו כלום.
without faith it's nothing. Now what is it referring to over here? What do you think the is referring to over here? כי בלא אמונה אינו כלום. So I'm just going to read for you a footnote here from Kramer. It's a very important one.
It refers to lifting the hands to the head in order to draw holiness. In more generally to all performance of. If someone observes a because they have faith in its because they have faith despite your inability to understand its rationale, you're rewarded for this action. In the case of lifting of the hands, you're blessed with greater holiness.
But if a person a person lacks this faith, and so does not believe that by raising their hands they incur holiness, raising them in deeds brings no holiness. Or as our lesson has it, it is nothing. Okay, this is an amazing, this is an amazing thing we're try to extract this, unfold this a little bit. But I'm going to read we're going to read one more line.
כי בלא אמונה אינו כלום, כמו שכתוב כל מצוותיך אמונה. Every מצווה that was given to us was given to us in order to bring down faith into our hearts and into our beings and into into our understanding of how the world works. Faith on its own, just to believe that this is something קדוש is very very holy. I believe that what I'm doing right now is a holy action.
The world of rational tells you that's it's nothing unless you understand why you're doing what you're doing. And this is a lot of tension over here. There's a lot of tension over here. Because many people think when they hear statements like that that if you don't understand what you're doing, it's nothing, you laugh at that side and you say, you don't know what you're talking about.
It's really just about doing what God wants. But the, there's a merger between those two worlds. But the the the the place that you're supposed to be operating from is to understand that the more that I the more that I have in the that I'm doing, the more I will understand and not להפך. that the more that I understand what I'm doing, the more I'll believe in it.
This is very important. Should I repeat I repeat that again? This is very important. and are two key elements in our. There a lot of people that they don't understand, they get very offended when they hear people that say you have to, you know, you have to understand what you're doing, if you don't understand it it's worth nothing.
Because and that just triggers a side that says, you and your. It's all intellect by you and academics. You don't need to know anything. It's doing is wants me to do it.
Of course, that's there's a lot of MS in there too that I'm doing because wants me to do it. But the is like this, the more faith that I have in the that I'm doing and the more that I learn about it, the more that I believe I will understand in a deeper level what this is to me and that will grow my faith or intellect. in the bigger picture. Huh? Both.
Both. Both. You're you're you're you're a you're a you got to be you got to be a little bit careful over here. No, no, no, it's true what you're saying.
But no, no, no, no. I I have to be there's You see what's interesting that sometimes does sound like when he speaks about and and, it does sound like the and sometimes it really doesn't sound like the. So therefore I don't even want to try to attempt to uh But here below, like this is choosing these words all the that you're doing, basically are all these different opportunities now to to to found our faith even deeper and deeper, but it's through rising through all the that we're learning. and not to shut it down.
Yes. Yes, because over here will be and then will be. I think that's very good, actually. Yeah.
when a person has an like this, a, this opens up the whole thing. you understand what did over here? When a person has such a in the, what is the reward that a person then goes like what what then you? So, what do you mean? Right, right, right. You're coming to from more place which which which makes you appreciate even that much deeper. It doesn't it doesn't that's what people are so nervous about it.
doesn't degrade intellect. But when you're coming from that place of the then the that is then gifted to you. Oh my god, it's a it's a different world. It's a with that you beat.
With that you beat the greatest enemies in the world which we'll see in a second. the more you strengthen your faith the more you attain. You would think that he would say the more you have, the less need you'll feel for. right? How's that working for us this year? How's it working for us in this? That's not really helping us.
that that's a when we have these imagery of when we when we when we think about like about like very holy people then I would say like simple, like. We're always like, oh, they they just believe they don't have any need for for. It's not true. What do we know about what's going on in their minds, right? Where says, the more you yourself with with pure the more that the more that the more intelligence you're attaining.
כי הדבר שהיה צריך מתחילה להאמין, עכשיו כשבא אל אמונה יותר גדולה, מבין הדבר הראשון בשכל. Because that thing which initially required me to just rely on faith in order to get through, now that you attained a higher level of, so you understand the first thing now even rationally. Can can someone give an example for that? The more say the more I have in something, the more that I believe in something, more and more, and my grows, then like, why do I need? I need many times in places where I can't understand anything, right? Then I strengthen my says then you reach a higher level of and what happens to the thing that you couldn't understand before so you needed for it, what happens to it says? Now you understand it. So I want to give a I want to bring down an example for this.
But but give an exact I want to like like a in within parenting, an actual example. When you have the you open your heart and your soul to it's open. So when you have the it's close space. Yeah,.
So so when you're open, so you like you said, I have in teaching. I believe he's an I believe in this faith that then you're open to to allowing his to go into you. It's when you're closed and you don't have an I don't believe in. I don't believe in this in that.
I don't I don't believe at all. And the moment you have the that you that it's going to help you, that it's it's going to improve you. Then you start to understand what he said. And you're open, you're open.
You open up. It's very it's very true. I want to ask you guys the following question. Did you ever ask yourself, why do I have to go through this right now? Anything, not now, not this.
I'm saying in life, did you ever ask, why do I have to go through this right now, right? Now, did you ever look back parenting could be a very thing. Did you ever look back and say, oh, that question that I had about that thing, why I had to go through that. I do I really do understand now why I had to go through it, right? So says, you know, when a person the way to the way to uh climb this ladder of more and more connected to things that I don't understand and then reaching a higher level of then that thing that I don't understand, I understand, it comes from the it comes from the from a person screaming out in a moment of what is going on. where's your covered in this in this moment in life that makes me feel that you deserted me and that I'm and that and that you deserted us.
So again to go back to a teaching we learned from many times if a person asks for what am I do I have to go through what I'm going through instead of why do I have to go through this? All the for what questions, versus it deepens the you go more and more greater and greater with and then you're able to look back and realize there's more and more that was. I didn't even realize it. But all those so many times I have the questions of why did I have to go through this? Like like I think most of the arm is stuck right now and saying Why did my children have to go? Why do my children have to go through this right now? Forget us. for us parents we go to our children.
Why is it that my children's experience of growing up as Jews in after all we've been through, has to be so much so correlated to to verbage such as missiles, you know, hearing words they never heard before. a lot of words we never heard before either like So, I can't answer that up now. It's also not the it's not also not the Indian right now. The Indian right now is חזקה that what? that I will be able to go back and attain שכל to understand what just happened, but I'm not going to get to understanding what happened and what's going on initially through שכל.
בדיוק. בדיוק. But you're still using your שכל to make that understanding. Like what you just did now, you used your mind to say, okay, I don't understand now.
I need to wait. That's a process. No, it's called actually זריקת המוחין. I'm using my I'm using my mind to chuck my intellect away for right now.
To because to solve this won't lead me to anywhere greater. It won't lead me to anywhere more positive. With I understand what you're saying. I used שכל to make an אמונה choice.
The process is still going on. Yeah, maybe for two seconds, but then but then it stopped. Yeah. Because now now.
There's a fine line. Huh? There's a fine line. Yeah, but definitely there's a has to be. There has to be, yeah.
Just cause אמונה feels like it's almost like a like, all right, I give it up. It's on you. And there isn't really any action that you're doing. It doesn't feel like there's something What am I doing? It's almost like a cop out, right? Like okay. That's the that's one of the greatest uh failures of Jewish education that this is something I learned from Reb Zalman.
He he said this once, he said it it really stuck with me. He said that אמונה, is אמונה a noun or a verb? Verb. Verb. If it's a noun, then you're right.
Right? If it's a noun, then it's a cop-out. It could be a cop-out. אמונה and we're going to see in a second from רבי נחמן, it's amazing. It was השגחה because רבי נחמן's going to show us it is the verb of all verbs, huh? אמונה is a muscle.
It's a muscle. It's a muscle. But that's a noun. It's not a muscle.
Working out, yeah. like in אמונת איברים, you have the the heart is opening and closing. It's the state of opening and closing. But but when you, what's flowing through? Everything is flowing from from that heart, from our ability to be open and our ability to close, to turn inward and and be open like Dalia was saying, but it's then for for the איברים you have to be open enough for that we have to let go of that tension of fear, right? When when we're fearful, we we literally block that that flow in the entire entire organs into every part of our body.
But when we, that's an action though. Actions of flow. That's a verb. That's yeah.
Yeah, training. We're going to see all this. I just want to read for you another important חצי footnote that he brings here from רב נתן. I'm sorry I didn't have it out here to everybody because um this I think this will help us.
רב נתן has a commentary on this and he writes that רבי נחמן teaches that listen listen closely, it's very easy English. רבי נחמן teaches that faith is applicable only to something whose logical reason one does not know. Whereas that which the mind knows and comprehends is called שכל. Both are indispensable for worshipping God.
They are complementary elements that together form a single whole. And although the more essential of the two is faith, like we said כל מצוותיך אמונה, it is not possible to perfect one's faith in God without intellect. Right, it's like you can't do מצוות without the גוף. In this world, that's בדיוק.
Actually מצוות are only for this world, there are no מצוות in the next, right. Which strengthens and refines faith. We do not say that an animal because it lacks intellect has faith. Only humans can be said to have faith because only a human being can perceive when to exercise intellect and when to rely on faith.
And while it's true that one can attain faith even without great intellect, the more a person develops and sharpens their intellect, the greater their capacity for אמונה truly is.So right now like to go back into the the state that we're in right now, like right now, עם ישראל, we we don't, this is always happening, you understand? Everything we're describing now is constantly happening on a כלל ופרט level. It's it's always happening. But I feel like if we had to pause and be like, where's the כלל right now? Where's עם ישראל right now? What what do we understand? We don't even know who to believe and what to believe what they're saying to us about did things change, did they not change? And if they didn't change, oh my God. And if they did change, then what's wrong with me? Right? If they, huh? It's a constant.
Constant. Every day, right now, we could see and follow news items with faith or follow news items with just like looking at exactly what's in front of our eyes. So it's we ingest it in a different way when we see it through the eyes of faith. Yes.
And and that's how and that's where you see that the faith can bring you to an intellect that you understand a what's going on much better, that everything's in Hashem's hands. If you follow the what's going on without that faith, you think that the world is תוהו ובוהו. Right. And but you know that's and so you need the intellect to you need to follow the faith up with intellect in this time I feel, rather than just backing off.
Right. You need to know but it's the faith that will get us through minute to minute. That that maybe is why your husband's my candidate for משיח. When you watch the news and the anchor says that something, right? The army...
Yes. You know that... Yes. With the eyes of אמונה.
He's the he's the only one. Your husband is the only one. No pressure. No, באמת.
That's he's an he's the... You should only watch when he's on. And I tell him that. And he's a כהן.
So he has to do the whole thing, you know. Okay, so now he ends off here like uh, sorry. Can I have the page that I gave you? I want to make sure just that everything's in here. So, נכון.To get back to what Marilyn or Lori said, I forget, um, and we're still because everything is the story, everything is for sure that we're in right now is still the story of פורים.
I mean, if we had any ספיקות about we don't know exactly who מרדכי היהודי is, or אסתר המלכה, or even המן. But we definitely know who אחשורוש is. But if we if we go back into the story of פורים, the לשון that speaks about Mordechai and Esther's relationship is is exactly this, ויהי אומן את הדסה. So, אומן, אומן is an active verb of raising her.
That's the פשט is ויהי אומן את הדסה, obviously the פשט is that he raised her, right? גדלה. But everyone's speaking about it, the Megillah could have easily said, ותגדל אסתר אצל מרדכי. ויהי אומן את הדסה. I once saw a מפרש that said he taught her all the כוונות of the word אמן and that's how she got through everything she got through.
ויהי אומן את הדסה, he taught her everything that's in the word אמן. ויהי אומן את הדסה, that means he really he raised her, he was he he took אמונה, he showed that's a faith, faithing. That's basically what faith is a noun unfortunately in proper English, right? But when and if you said to someone are you faithing lately, right? So... It's the same idea that love is a verb, faith is a verb.
Is right, but love is love a verb? According... הלוואי. To love, love could also just be this thing you either do or you don't, but it's not that. You're right.
It is active. It's active. It's the pulse.Okay, so so now he ends off here and he says וזהו שכתוב במשה, this is what's written by the war with עמלק, ויהי ידב אמונה, שהיה לו אמונה כל כך גדולה עד שנתפשט בכל האיברים, שאפילו בידיו היה האמונה כל כך גדולה. His his faith was so extensive that it spread to every every part of him that even his hands had his hands contained אמונה, the אמונה was so great, עד בוא השמש.
היינו, לשכל של כל דבר. Now really we have to we should have learned how רבי נחמן equates חכמה and שמש in another place, it's all over ליקוטי מוהר"ן. But here he says what does it mean עד בוא השמש? She was אמונה, it was אמונה until what? Until that thing that needed אמונה in order to get through, then became a level of שכל. And right? Which is the which is supposed to be like that, until the next until the next שלב of life where אמונה is leading the show and שכל is coming after it.
That's that's the rhythm. It's not שכל, אמונה, שכל. It's אמונה, שכל, אמונה, שכל, אמונה. עד בוא השמש, היינו לשכל של הדבר, ושמש הוא בחינת חכמה, כמובא אצלנו.
Here it says כמובא בסימן א, it's even in the beginning of of ליקוטי מוהר"ן. רבי נחמן says like the sun, the inner intelligence shines for a person in all his ways. Just as the sun lights a person's way so that they can see where to go and where not to go, inner intelligence enlightens a person's way so that they can see which path to follow and which to avoid. משה רבנו's faith was so powerful, so pervasive that it extended to his hands.
Through this great faith, he attained a deeper understanding, the inner intelligence of the battle the Jewish people were then waging against the evil nation of עמלק. Like, does anyone understand what Iran has with us? What does anyone understand this? What is this obsession? What is this ענין? Like what what is this ענין? So do you think that if you sit long enough and understand, you'll feel calm? Right? But the more אמונה that you have and the more that you learn all the סוגיות that have to do with ישמעאל, ישראל, אדום, like it's a big things, these are very big conversations. There's a lot to learn here, there's a lot of חכמה פנימיות to attain over here and to learn over here. And דוקא פרס.
דוקא פרס. These are big these are big סוגיות, but it's not going to happen, this is what רבי נחמן is saying, it's not going to happen from the way of of intelligence which will then lead me to a calm heart, right? It doesn't happen like that. And these things are happening constantly all the time, all the time, all the time. עד בוא השמש.
היינו לשכל של כל דבר. והשמש הוא בחינת חכמה כמוהו אצלנו. So this is a little bit hard to understand in light of the פסוק ראשית חכמה יראת השם. But when you think about it, that doesn't mean that the beginning should be חכמה, it just means that the beginning of the world of חכמה should be יראת השם.
Not ראשית אדם חכמה. No. ראשית חכמה, but when you do approach this world of intellect, humble you, like יראת השם, be in awe of the world that's opening up in front of you. Be in awe of it.
Yeah. Just want to share something that I'm saying that, I came across someone yesterday completely not religious, not religious, nothing to do with not not observing מצוות. It's like nothing. And she told me שלא נדע גמורה.
That's what she said. She says, how do you explain this? So simply like there's so many we've seen on the that you can't even, you can't deny it. My אמונה is getting stronger. And it's like I feel like it's exactly what you're saying.
Like that's how it comes. Like השם is like forcing us into into the process that it should be. Like where we're thinking it might be intellect first, He's saying, no, no, no, I'm going to push you into a place where אמונה has to come first. So then you could get on the same Right.
At one level as a... You know ידע from the you know you don't shop here but the the מכולת guy, yeah ידידיה. So you know he's he's like a very, very holy person. You know you know anything about him? He's been through a lot, fought many wars, lost a brother.
He has his own נץ minyan, he has a ספר תורה, he's the guy just pounds תהילים. It's all because he doesn't wear a כיפה you you don't think you wouldn't normally think like this. And ידידיה has come to me so many times asking me if certain people that he knows that are here or from here need anything that he could just, and many times he's given thousands and thousands and thousands of shekels worth of צדקה. So I like ידע is my my ל"ו, like when I when I need to get inspired, I ask Bina if there's anything I can go get from the מכולת, you know.
He's really something else. He's mama he's something else. Over the last two weeks, I don't know if you've seen him when you've noticed him in the מכולת during the frenzy, during the hours where we all thought that if we don't stack up now on everything we're we're going to starve our children, חס ושלום, and all these different besides Avi Miller of course, who waits till the... one o'clock.
Everyone's like eight 8 a.m. they're going to the... ידע has been walking around with with with this with this like face lately, like... say 'ma'. Ma, he's like, אני מתפעם מהבורא.
I don't know the right word in English for that. Amazed, I'm amazed. It's even not מתפלא. מתפלא is...
Yeah, it's more like אני מתפעם, and... astonished. He it's like... blown away.
He's like he is just awe, that's what it is, you know. Awe. He's a person that sits with the Torah. He does it's all his all of a sudden telling you, he's a big, big ייאד.
He's an amazing, amazing ייאד. And every every time I went to the מכולת during the last few weeks, I knew that I was going to be in the presence of someone that really has אמונה שמתפשטת. And being and when you're like that, when the אמונה מתפשטת בכל האיברים, you're you're just in awe. Now granted he doesn't have little kids in the house.
I don't want to make anyone feel bad, חס וחלילה. We didn't necessarily feel like this. He's not taking infants quiet, you know, going three two flights of stairs and have, נכון. That's a different, that's a very, very hard עבודה to keep that composure when when there's immediate need of your extensions in front of you that are dependent on you for everything.
It's true, it's a different it's a different story. However, we do live amongst people that live like this. And I think that like you just pointed out, we're noticing that there are more and more people that that are like this. Um they are less and less heard because you have to seek them.
You have to seek them. They're not going to be people that are making sure they're in your face with their words or their videos or you have to seek out these people and but they're there and we live amongst, it's not just him, there are other people as well. So I just want to give us a strong ברכה right now as we as we continue to delve into the unknown, which by the way was always true. It was just our illusion that thought we were going into knowns.
It was always, everything is always unknown. מה יולד יום, it's like whatever we're feeling right now could be not at all the experience we have by שבת. Because what we're feeling right now is not the feeling we had on Monday or on Tuesday morning. So in that world that I recognize that that is the reality, this Torah is everything in the world that I need to know.
Hashem, what did you give me? מצוות. כל מצוותיך אמונה. I'm going to do them, I'm going to believe in them. I'm going to believe in them as like I'm actually going to be thinking about זמן קריאת שמע in a bomb shelter? Yes, because that's all I really could do at that moment.
That's the only מצווה I had to to think about at that moment. And there were a few times where actually the זמנים were were like that if you if you remember. And if you didn't, it's okay. We have to always remind like if that's not what you were thinking about, that's also, Hashem we're all good, okay? כל מצוותיך אמונה.
We will, one thing's for sure because it's the nature of the world, we will look back and understand on some level what the ענין was over here. We will. And then we'll be raised up to an even higher level of intellect. Just Hashem please higher level of אמונה which will then raise us to a higher level of intellect as well.
Just Hashem we ask of you please אל תביאנו לידי ניסיון. Like everything we're saying over here is in light of fear of war of פחד but this also works also when things are not necessarily presenting themselves in states of terror. It's about every stage in life. Every stage in life.
You brought up parenting. Marriage is one of the the the the biggest ones in this parsha. All things that are meaningful and all things that matter, this is the ladder that it climbs upon. So I give us a ברכה that our אמונה and our שכל should dance together in a in a perfect unison, find its way, the rhythm should flow very, very smoothly and bring us all to the greatest greatest מאמינים בני מאמינים and also תלמידי חכמים that we could be and there's no סתירה between the two at all whatsoever.
All right.
