Welcome to another edition of The Daily Darshan with Ezina. Today I am going to share a quote with you that it came across my mind while meditating this morning, and I had to go look it up because I wanted to give it to you exactly as it was written. And the quote is, I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as Making a Life by Maya Angelou. This quote is packed. It is pretty heavy because we all are still recovering from hustle culture.
Ezina LeBlanc:And this quote highlights an important distinction between earning money and truly living a meaningful and fulfilling life. While making a living refers to working in order to meet basic needs such as food, shelter, and financial security, making a life That involves pursuing happiness, relationships, personal growth, and purpose. And most of us in this community have been hustling so hard that we kind of push that to the wayside. And this quote reminds us that although work is an important part of life, it should not become the only focus. In modern society, many people spend a large portion of their time trying to make a living.
Ezina LeBlanc:They work long hours, they chase promotions, and focus heavily on financial success. While these goals can provide stability and comfort, they do not automatically lead to happiness or fulfillment. A person might have a high paying job but still feel stressed, lonely, unsatisfied, or worse, making themselves sick. And this shows that earning money alone, it just doesn't guarantee a meaningful life. Now, making a life, on the other hand, involves investing time and energy into all the things that bring you joy, happiness, and purpose.
Ezina LeBlanc:This can include building strong relationships with family and friends. We all know someone who's got a very fractured family and who's mad at all their friends. You could spend more time building those building stronger relationships and pursuing hobbies and passions that you've had on your to do list for years. Or what about volunteering and helping others? And most importantly, maintaining physical and mental well-being.
Ezina LeBlanc:These aspects of life create memories, personal growth, and a sense of belonging that money, it just can't buy it. For example, spending time with loved ones or contributing to the community can provide deep satisfaction that goes far beyond financial success. You know, this quote also encourages us to find balance. And I hear over and over again, there's no such thing as balance. There is.
Ezina LeBlanc:Work is necessary, but it should support life rather than replace it. When you focus only on making money, you miss opportunities to enjoy life and connect with others. By balancing career goals with personal interests, relationships, and that trendy thing, self care, individuals can create a life that is both stable and meaningful. So as we think about this quote, again, I've learned that making a living is not the same thing as making a life. It reminds us that financial success and a fulfilling life are not the same thing.
Ezina LeBlanc:While making a living helps us survive, making a life gives us purpose and happiness. And true success comes from balancing work with experiences, relationships, and passion that brings you true happiness and joy and make life worth living. So today I challenge you to look at your life and say, where can I pull more life out of it? Where can I pull more joy out of it? How can I work a little less?
Ezina LeBlanc:How can I restructure my life so that I can experience more joy and feel more happiness? Just not on the surface happiness either, that deep happiness that you feel in a soul level, that you feel in a gut level, that you feel in a root chakra level, that happiness, that true joy. How can we restructure our lives to allow more of that in? For some of you, it may be taking some of your PTO. I know I've talked about it time and time again, but it's so important to take that time off.
Ezina LeBlanc:It's there for a reason. And for some of you, it may be switching jobs altogether or asking for a flex schedule at work. But think about how can you have more time for you to live. This past year when everyone was going to all of the Beyonce concerts and the Taylor Swift concerts and the Kendrick Lamar concerts, I saw so much joy in those posts on online. Just people just generally having a really, really, really good time.
Ezina LeBlanc:And I thought, we need to have more of this on a daily basis and not just when our favorite performer comes to town. So as we get back into real life, as I get off the mat and get some water because my throat's dry, I invite you to tap in, Tap in to your true joy. Tap in to what really makes you happy. And start to balance the scales in your life. It can't just be all work and no play.
Ezina LeBlanc:We've heard that quote too a billion times, but it can't be. Life is too short. We have to balance the scales more. So how can we do that? How can you do that in your life?
Ezina LeBlanc:Because as miss Maya Angelou said, making a living is not the same as making a life. Until next time. Sat Nam.
