Full show transcript:
Yo. I'll tell you what I want. What I really, really want. What? So tell me what you want. What you really really want.
We were having a Spice Girls moment. Well, you said yo. Uh later on in the show, we're going to talk about some gross food that my mom makes. I want to know. Is there some gross food your mom makes? Yes. Because we kinda we kind of hammered about mom's food.
But I want to I mean a little bit. But I want to hear a little about what's something that your mom like is gross as Vienna sausages is what I'm going to do. Cream tuna over toast. That's not that's a good meal. I didn't do it with tuna fish. We do it with turkey after Thanksgiving.
You think that's good? No.
I haven't had it since I lived at home. That's how good it is. Soggy bread. Yes.
Oh uh. No way.
It's a poverty meal. A depression meal. A great depression meal. For sure.
She made that a lot. She also used to make the What about now? Raisin and Carrot salad.
Yeah, I was gonna say, what's that ambrosia? I like ambrosia. That's not carrot and raisin. What's the ambrosia?
That's the one with the marshmallows? Those different colored marshmallows. Uh yuck. I like that. No.
No. No. No. No. Listen, to be a good one.
Is it whipped cream or is it mayonnaise? If you go to any LDS function, you're gonna find ambrosia salad.
I don't care for it. That recipe uh marched across uh uh this is perfect timing since this weekend is pioneering. Right. That recipe came across the country with the pioneers. They were making marshmallow salads.
You think they had marshmallows in pioneer time?
Sure thing. They were settling in Utah with that ambrosia salad.
Don't forget the marshmallows. Put the marshmallows in the wagon.
Put them in But them in the trunk. We need to bring the marshmallows. You're gonna want that salad when we get to Utah. That's what they said. It was the whole reason. Yeah, I know. It wasn't it wasn't for religious freedom. No. It was for ambrosia salad. Come on now.
I like ambrosia salad. And so does most people.
So Okay, well good for you. Good for you. I don't. Does it have crab in it?
No, it does not. What are you talking about? What is it made of? It has marshmallows. A lot of people put coconut in there. Some people put pineapple in there.
Gross. Um you could put mandarin oranges. You could put cherries, maraschinos, and it's a few. So it's a bunch of fruits. Yeah. A bunch of canned fruits.
Yeah. So it's a fruit cooked panel. I think there's sour cream in there. I think it's like a whipped cream. I haven't made it in a long time. And then you could put some nuts in there too. It's good. Hey. Hey you. Why you it's delicious?
You know, there's a salad I like that I can get in town. That I like a whole lot. It's little cubes of cheese and broccoli in like an apple cider vinegar mayo uh kind of situation. Oh man, I love that salad. It's so simple. And I love it. It's so good.
You do like it. I could eat that right now. Go get some. Like a whole cup of it. It's so good. It's just broccoli and cheese. Yeah, I know. Yum. Well, how about today's show, huh?
It's inducer.
Hi. Hey, good morning. Good morning. How's that? How's it going? So good. Today is our Friday. That's right. Yeah. It is. Yeah. Sorry, everybody who's having a Tuesday.
Yeah, sorry, everybody. This is my Friday.
We're having a Friday. And that is because we have uh a kind of a big day coming up in a couple of days here. Two days from today. What is it? Two days from today is our wedding anniversary. Twenty-one years, you and I.
We've been married. I know. Yeah. Good job. That was a good high five. That was a good high five. Nice.
Uh with left hands even. I know. Yeah, well done.
That's how good we are. I mean, you know. What are you going to do? Uh, we've been married for 21 years on Thursday. We're celebrating our anniversary by taking the later half of this week off. So we will be uh out of the studio the rest of the week after today. But we're here live today, so we're hanging out, doing a show. Uh as usual. And um, that's about what I know. It's about what I know as well. Uh it's kind of weird when you have a Tuesday that's a Friday.
It's not weird at all. This is this is how it should be.
This is how it This is her shoe.
This is how weird it is. It's weird. I I what I mean is like I feel like uh barely got started. Yesterday was a hustle hustle kind of day because I'm trying to get a lot of stuff done. Same. And then today will be a bit of the same, but I got a lot done yesterday.
So today I feel like there's gonna be a little less pressure. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. We are gonna uh be live today. We will not be live in the studio Wednesday, Thursday, or actual Friday. Uh and so we I we've got some stuff we've got to prepare. We've got to get ourselves kind of uh some pre-recording stuff done. Um but other than that, seems like it's gonna be a pretty low stress day, I say right now before every computer in the building fails.
Yeah, why would you jinx yourself? Why not? You live dangerously. It's a fun party. You're so dangerous. Yeah, I know. Watch out. Watch out. As baby would tell Johnny, you're so wild.
Nice. It's a very nice dirty dancing reference. Good job, Josh.
Well, I'm not gonna mess that one up. That one's pretty easy. That one is an easy one. I mean, I've I know you know I've seen it at least three times. Three. At least.
I would have just guessed you've seen it once.
Oh, I've seen it at least three times.
Okay. I know that now. Yeah.
I haven't seen a lot of movies, but I've seen that one at least three times.
It's a great one to see that many times.
I've I've probably seen that one as many times as as I've seen Pretty Woman. Oh, really? Uh that's that probably falls in the same category. Okay. Uh Grease is probably another movie I've seen probably three times. Trying to think of some others that you've put me through.
Uh me. I am not responsible for it.
Singing in the rain, I've probably seen three three times.
That one you need to see more than three times. Yeah. Uh what's that? Perfect day for singing in the rain, Josh. Oh, yeah.
What's that uh what is that uh movie with the weird little cars? Uh the U. The Italian job. No, that's the Mini Coopers. I've seen that movie one time. Drowning Mona. Yeah, you've I've seen that probably three times.
That movie is great. Yeah. Now, if you'll let me introduce you to a fish called Wanda. Who? A fish called Wanda. Never heard of it. It's so good. No, you've never brought that up. I gotta write it down.
It's written down in like 18 places. I know. What are you writing it down for now?
I just keep forgetting about it. Fish called Honda.
Okay, well, pop quiz. What did we do last year for our 20th anniversary?
Last year we took a trip up to Montana. Yeah. And you went fishing, we did some hiking, we stayed in a tree house, Airbnb. Yeah.
Uh we we checked out the town of Darby.
Darby Moulin.
Uh we did go to Missoula, uh, which I enjoy Missoula a lot. Missoula a lot, too. Um, Darby is where they film uh Yellowstone, or at least parts of it. Uh so that was kind of fun. Darby fish on the bigger route.
Darby O'Neill and the little people. What?
What are you talking about?
There's a movie called that Darby O'Gill, Darby.
That is a movie I've seen or heard about zero times. No.
You are the one who told me about that movie. No, I don't think so.
I totally disagree.
Darby O'Gill and the little people.
Yeah, I know nothing about this.
That's a total lie.
I've never heard of this in my life.
It's 1959. Huh. I don't I've never seen it, but
somebody has told me about nothing about it. I have no recollection at all.
Well, I feel cute. Because you always go, Darby O'Gill and the little people. Nope.
You have me confused for someone else.
Maybe confused with my other husband. I guess that I've been married to for 21 years.
It's not me. I don't, I've never said that line of words in a row ever. But anyway, happy Tuesday Friday. Woo. Here's some good news. This is a really cool story. And I hope it doesn't make you uh super cry.
Uh it's it's a really, really good story. So just be prepared. Okay.
I know you're you're working on a on a makeup. I don't want to have to ruin it for you. It's okay.
Go ahead. This is a story about Dave uh Whitlow. He's a 73-year-old retired local government manager in Virginia. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, he uh spends his time working the best gig of his life. He is a volunteer cuddler in the neonatal intensive care unit at children's hospital of Richmond.
Uh this is amazing. For the past eight years, Dave has shown up to hold rock and comfort some of the hospital's most fragile patients. On a typical shift, he will cradle five to eight premature or critically ill infants, some weighing under two pounds, giving them human connection and comfort that they need while they fight for their lives. He works closely with the nursing staff, carefully tracking the baby's vital signs and monitoring their progress during every single cuddle. That's amazing.
Before placing each infant back into their bed, he quietly whispers the same heartfelt wish to them. Don't even say it. This is where I said it's gonna get you. Grow strong, grow smart, grow kind, he says to the little babies, and then he puts them down. Uh he's happy that he has the extra time in his retirement to do this important job.
He said it's the best gig I've ever had. It just feels right. I pretty much just want to be with them all the time. Uh it's very, very sweet. That is nice. What a great way to spend your retirement. I'm sorry I made you cry.
I'm not crying, I'm just a little bit watery. I just there's poked myself in the eye.
Is that what happened? Yeah, in both of them. Yep. Weird. I know. Anyway, uh, it's really, really sweet. Uh, what a great opportunity uh to help. And uh Dave, you're doing a good thing, man. That's cool.
So I didn't know that was a thing, but that sounds like an amazing way to spend two days of your week. Yeah. I know sign up. Yeah, I will say that.
Whatever that means. I know you want to do that. I do. I do. That sounds like an amazing time. Yeah, it does.
Holding little tiny neonatal intensive care unit children. Unbelievable. So uh anyway, way to go, Dave. That's good news. So I gotta get you caught up because I don't think you haven't said a word, so I'm pretty sure you are not keeping up with what's going on uh with our Big Bear Valley Eagles.
I have not been keeping up.
Okay, well, then your world is about to get rocked a little bit because um there have been days of like huge amounts of activity from what they call subadult eagles. Uh huh.
Uh don't uh why? Because they are trying to uh take over the territory and they are fighting mid-air with Shadow and Jackie, and uh they are uh you watch these videos, it's crazy because Jackie and Shadow's babies. No, oh Jackie and Shadow are being pushed out of their territory, they're being competed with uh Shadow is being competed with for Jackie. There's a lot going on.
And these so Jackie uh was with a different male eagle for a long time, Mr. B, they call him. Oh, yeah. And Shadow showed up and contested Mr.
B and won. Oh and Jackie and Shadow have been together for several years. Now they're sub adult juvenile like eagles that are contesting Shadow. And they are getting close to the nest, and they are aerial fighting. And what's have you seen the Eagles Aerial Fight?
Yes. Where they turn upside down and they go claw to claw. It's crazy.
I know it is like crazy to watch. So that's happening in the territory of this nest. Well, in one of these battles, Jackie got injured and fell. Oh no. And she is currently in a rehab center. No way.
Yeah. She was uh she was discovered, unable to fly, injured. Uh she actually amazingly found people and went to people, and the uh firefighters um have transported her Saturday afternoon. She was transported to the uh OHI Raptor Center. Um, they are taking care of her there. 11 hours ago they posted an update um that uh she is underweight, she is alert, she is perching, she is eating with assistance. They have not received test results yet, but they should within the next couple of days. Um, but a lot is going on. But Jackie is currently in rehab uh waiting to be you know healthy enough to be re-released back out there. This is crazy.
This is crazy.
I I heard about this yesterday, and I went, no way this is going on.
This is not your area, these other eagles.
I know. I'm so mad. This is nature doing what nature does.
Her fight in the sky is what they're calling it.
It's it is crazy. So anyway, I just wanted to give you an update because we watch Jackie and Shadow so much over the past few years. Yeah, she's currently at the at the Eagle Hospital.
I'm watching an uh video where she's kind of injured in the water.
That's the yeah, but she found people like that's amazing. She was like, I need help. I need to go find people. And so she was able to get to where you know, firefighters and people could actually get to her and uh and help her out, which is so mad at these eagles.
Yeah, the subadults.
Yeah, those subadult eagles are pretty gnarly. You know what? Subadult eagles means bunch of middle schoolers.
Okay.
All right. I think they're a little older than that. They're they're like uh two or three-year-old eagles. Uh yeah.
That are which translates because middle schoolers are mean. Okay.
Anyway, obviously we're hoping for the best for our for our eagle friends, and hopefully uh she can get back out there healthy and strong and everything will be okay. Oh, Jax. I know it's crazy.
Emory told us yesterday that she wants to shop for a steering wheel cover because when she was coming home yesterday, her hands were burning. Yeah. So we went to the store and looked and she couldn't find anything that she liked. And so then she was shopping online and then sent the family a link to what she was shopping for and said, is this a good one? Yeah.
Now when she sent that, I sensed that there had there was a little bit of contention between the two of you because it sounded like she'd asked you already and gotten your opinion, but it wasn't good enough.
No, there was some contention, but not because of the steering wheel cover. Okay. All right. Because if you have, if you're a mom and you have a teenage daughter, uh-huh, there are days where you are each other's best friends, and then there are days where you are mortal enemies. Okay. And it can fluctuate. Oh, it could be the same. Same throughout the day. Oh, yeah. Sure.
Uh depending on availability of snacks and refreshments. I get it.
So there was already like something that was a little bit amiss between the two of us. But she sent that link to the family, and I said, Yeah, I think that's a good one. And she goes. I appreciate you chiming in. But I really need Dad and Beck to chime in.
Yeah, that's what I heard from the back seat. And I looked over at you going, oh boy, what happened here. Uh do I need to be caught up on some details? What is uh what's the story?
Do you we do that a lot? I mean, not a lot, but there are times where we really do, and we're both passive aggressive people.
You and I or me and Emory. Yeah. Sorry, me and Emery.
So there are times where I'll say something passive, she'll say something aggressive.
Yeah, I just try to leave the room. You guys can handle that on your own. I don't need to be involved. I'll go wander in the garden and have a handful of peas or something. I don't need to be around. You you guys have something to deal with.
So good luck with it, whatever it is, and I'll be away from here.
I don't know if you chimed in on the link that she sent, but no.
Well, I did in person at the house. And I said, why don't we just go like you went to one store. Right. Like have you learned how to shop around?
And it wasn't even a car card store. That's what I'm saying. She is just an instant gratification kind of person. I know. She's like, I have this idea, I need to do it right now. And it's like, whoa, chill, chill, chill. Right. And maybe that's where it stemmed from because I had my own list of to-dos. Yeah. And I was like trying to furiously get finished with those.
And then she was like, no, I need the steering wheel cover right now. I need it. I need it. I need it. And I said, We you have to stop right now. Uh-huh.
So yeah.
No, that's exactly what happened. But it was very much like, we'll get to it. I promise you. You don't need it right this second. Do we need to milk right this second? Yeah, we do. Can we focus on some milk right now? We got it.
Yeah, well, she needs to go to a couple different places. Okay. And look at some stuff. Guess what? I can take her. It's fine.
I was going to say, guess who's taking her? Because she appreciates me chiming in. But I really need Dad and Beck to chime in. I'm like, oh, you don't think that I have enough to say about a steering wheel cover.
I think she heard enough. She didn't want to hear what you had to say about it. I appreciate your input, but I want other input. I need to know if this is a good one. And you don't know. So ugh.
fine. We separated the second we got home. Yeah, no, I saw.
I mean, you were both on the couch because that's when I was talking to her about the steering wheel cover, but then right after that, it was poof. Just quiet. Yeah.
We kind of both know that things are heated. So we each have to cool down.
Let's take a break from each other. I'll be somewhere else. You guys sort it out. we're We are excuse me.
Sorry. my What? My mouth stopped moving. Well, up we're up thought
you were starting to sing Cotton Eye Joe there for a minute. Well, hadn't been, you know what I mean? I get you. Yeah.
Okay. We were at a store over the weekend, and Emory saw a kickball, and she said, Dad, what is the sound of this ball? What is the sound this makes? She didn't drop it. She just wanted you to make the sound to see if you could do it. And you said point. Something like that. And she goes, That's pretty good. That's pretty good. Point. And then she made her own.
Yeah, I don't remember her noise. But I remember yours quite well. You want to share with the people?
I don't even remember what it was. Badonk. You said, Badonk. Yeah. That's the sound of a kickball, duh. That's the sound of a kickball. Badonk? Padong. Yeah. Yeah. Duh. Oh, yeah, same. Do yours again. Poink. Badong. Here's what's rude. Here's what's rude. Yeah, you guys always give me grief because I can't do sound effects very well.
I laugh with you when I hear you do sound effects. I don't think that's because you laugh and I laugh and we laugh together.
But Ba-doink. But now you've roped the kids into your make fun of mom sound effects game.
I never make fun of you. I'm I'm very encouraging. You do really great sound effects. I've told you you and everyone who I've ever told about your ability to do sound effects. I've always said she is great at them. She does amazing what she hears in her head is what she produces out of her mouth. She is so good, I say to everyone.
I think that's a total lie.
Because you hear it in your head and you've said it. You hear it in your head, and then exactly what you hear in your head is what comes out.
No. And it's bedoink. There's a total disconnect. I hear the sound in my head and I go, okay, okay, okay, okay.
Okay, like the what's the sound of a helicopter, for example. A helicopter? Yeah, what's a helicopter sound like? Sure. And what's the sound of a sprinkler? Because I feel like those are the same. Yeah. Okay. Okay. And what's the sound of shaking a can of coins? Because it feels like it's also the same. So I don't know how to help you.
I don't either. I do. I once checked out there was an audio CD from the library of how to make sound effects. When did you do that? Years and years and years ago. This was years. Okay. Years. Maybe like 10 to 12 years old. Did you actually listen to it? Yes.
I feel like that's something you would have checked out, like, oh yeah, I'm gonna learn sound effects, and then never listen to it. No, I did. Okay.
I don't remember anything about it. Did I listen to it?
No, there's no way you did. I know you well enough that you you saw it and you're like, I'm gonna get good. And then you never did. You never got the CD out. I did too. No. No, you didn't. I guarantee. And then you probably returned the book late. So those are the things I know about you. You were really excited to get it.
You saw it and went, no way. I'm gonna get so good. I'm gonna surprise these guys. I'm gonna get the sound effects book, and I'm gonna learn how to do these.
I'm gonna be so good. And then you went, I don't even know how to play a CD in this house. And then, so you never played it, and then you went, I gotta get these books back. They were due two days ago. I gotta get these books back. That's that's exactly how it went. Yeah, that sounds about right. I'm gonna one of these days. No, you're not.
Your mom sent you a text yesterday, or you were talking to her, and she said, I'm making my own uncrustables.
Okay, yeah. So apparently they make this thing. It's uh it's like a cookie cutter kind of thing that seals the edges of the of the bread. So if you want to use different bread, you can make your own uh uncrustables. And so in her head.
She got swindled. And let me tell you why. This is awesome. No, let me tell you why. Because you can crust off your own bread. You can take the crust off your own bread, and then you can seal your own bread like pie, like a pie crust. You just squish all of the pieces together, and then you could take a fork and squish them together. I understand what you're saying. But it's an uncrustable.
It's a spot on replica. It's perfect.
Yeah, you're showing me a picture. Okay. It's perfect.
So then she wanted to use wheat bread instead of white bread that they use for uncrustables.
And uncrustables have all kinds of preservatives.
Yeah, yeah. So she was like, I'm just gonna make my own.
Jelly doesn't. No, I get it.
It is a preservative. So anyway, uh, I think that's awesome. But then we were talking about all the different things, different kinds of sandwiches you could make, because she said she was making her own, and I went, so what? Like just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? And she's like, no, no, no, look. And she showed me this thing, this tool she's got that makes crustless sandwiches, which is cool. Yeah, I think that's great.
It is So you can your own. She proceeded to tell you all of the gross sandwiches you're gonna do.
Well, I thought for a minute I said, that's cool because now you could make egg salad sandwiches as an uncrustable. You can make uncrustable chicken salad, you could make uncrustable tuna fish sandwiches, you could make uncrustable whatever jellies you want to mix with different almond butters, like you could do whatever you want. Like how crazy, right? And then she said the grossest thing ever.
Yeah, we did get her permission. I said, Can I talk about your gross sandwiches on the radio? And she said, Yes. She's got no shame. She needs to have a little shame. Vienna sausage sandwich. Uncrustable. Vienna sausage sandwich. Like a meat pocket. No.
Now let's explore for a minute. No, I don't even want to. I don't, I don't like Vienna sausage. No.
No one does except your mom.
I know. She's keeping them. She's keeping them afloat. Listen, there's a lot of people that eat a lot of different foods. Uh what? other...
Your mom should branch out. What other terrible She is, I would say, is branched out farther than most. I I stopped at like it comes in a little tiny short can. I went, I'm not putting that anywhere. No. No. No. Uh no, thank you. Did she feed you Vienna sausages when you were little?
Probably. I mean, our kids liked them.
Yeah, because I ate them when I was little and I liked them when I was little, and then No. Yeah. I don't know how our kids try. I think they probably tried them because I didn't buy them for a long time. Oh, it had to have been a but it had to have been at either your mom's house or my mom's when they first tried them.
Beck at one point was eating them in the car. Just opened up a can and was snacking on them in the back seat and said, You can really taste the chicken in it. And I went, This is disgusting. I can't deal.
No, and then I think that's when I finally said we're not buying these again. Can't deal. Grossing me out.
Yeah. So I mean, you could do bologna sandwich in an uncrustable. You could you could. You could. You could do a little pizza pocket. You could do a little pizza sauce and some cheese and some pepperoni slices. That sounds okay. Yeah.
It's the bologna in the Vienna sausages. And the miracle whip. That's the part. I go, Yeah, because is that what your mom uses? Oh, yeah. Listen, we've been invited to a barbecue at her house on this weekend. Yeah. And uh I don't want to go. Why? It's rude.
She's not cooking up little smokies. You don't know that. No, if if but they could make you your own. Your own little skewer of Vienna sausages grilled up. No. Would you eat them? No. With some barbecue sauce on there? Yeah. Would you? No.
But I'm looking forward to hamburgers and hot dogs. That's awesome. Okay. I'm good with that. Yeah, me too. What?
I just don't know what they're gonna cook. Hamburgers and hot dogs. Okay. It's fine. Yeah. We'll go. It's fine.
Gross. There's not even gonna feed you. They're like, oh, weird. We're one short. That's fine. All we have is this skewer of Vienna sausages.
I was like, I brought my own food anyway. You're rude. I know She told She told me I could talk bad about our food. Yeah. Because we do it to her face. What? Your food is gross. No.
It's just the Vienna sausages.
Yeah, it's just your uncrustables. Your Vienna sausage, your pocket sandwich. Meat pocket sandwich. Vienna sausages. Yeah. And Miracle Whip.
A slice of lettuce or something. I don't know what she said. Oh. Pickle on the side.
Stop. There is a random knife that I pulled out of the drawer yesterday, and I said, Where'd this knife come from?
Yeah, I don't know what that is.
And he said, I don't know, but I really like that knife.
I do. That's a good knife.
I've never seen that knife before.
I don't know. Somebody must have left it at the house. I understand that. I like it.
The last time we had people at our house for food was Thanksgiving. And I have not seen this knife until just now. Yeah. I don't know where it came from. Where did it?
Where was it living for months and months? Uh uh. I like it. But whose is it? I don't know. It's ours now.
If you No, no one knows. My knife now. Stop trying to give away my new knife. I got a new knife in the house. If you've been to our house recently and you're missing a knife, we have it. No. No one is missing a knife.
I have a new knife. It's a very nice knife. What are you trying to give away my new knife? You didn't even ask. It's my knife.
Okay, listen to me. If somebody had left a not so nice knife. Yeah, oh, they could have that back. Would you try and figure out who it belonged to? Or would you just like throw it away?
Or would you keep it in the drawer and just be like, I hate that knife? That's it. That's it. And you never use it. And it would just sit there quietly.
There's stuff in the house like that. That people have left behind. Oh, or what? That's just stuff I don't like that I just leave alone. Like what? Oh, I don't know. There's stuff.
Oh. There's washcloths I don't like, towels I hate. I'll never use that towel. Which one? The black and white ones. I don't like those. I don't like those either. Why would you still have them? I don't know. Can't be bothered. No.
We have really bad washcloths I need to replace too. Can't be bothered. Yeah. The problem is that I just forget. And so whenever I'm at the store, I go, I don't know what I need here. I'm down the towel aisle, but I can't think of anything I need.
I don't need towels and washcloth.
And then I go home and I go, Oh, I hate these towels and I hate these washcloths. Right. You Write it down. Yeah, okay. I guess.
There's stuff like that that I'm like, nah, I'll never use that.
I want to know something else that you'll never.
I don't know. I'd have to look around. Okay.
Are there any kitchen utensils you won't ever use?
Yeah, there I don't like a lot of the spatulas.
I don't either. I like to actually use our rice cooker. Those are great. Yeah, the rice cooker we had came with like a little flat. It's not a spatula, but it's like a it's a rice spatula. I use that for my spatula my everyday spatula needs.
Yeah, sure. And somebody yelled at me once and was like, that's for rice. And I went, I don't even care. I'm gonna use it because there are no rules in my house.
Did the did the potato masher get put back in the drawer? I just realized it didn't get put back in the bin. Oh it's gonna live in the drawer forever now.
And then you're never gonna be able to open that drawer. I know. We gotta get that thing out of there before it starts causing havoc. That mashed potato masher, get it out.
Listen to me. I did try to use an actual spatula yesterday. No, the day before. I don't remember what I was trying to flip. And I was like, a spatula.
A spatula. You took a spatula out of the out of the drawer just over the weekend and went, is this even ours? Who's is this? Did we get this a new one? Like, I don't know.
That's the one I tried to use. Oh it's terrible. I hate it. I was like, where's my rice spatula? Got it. We have two of them, and when they are dirty, I get so sad. Yeah.
I know I stayed in an Airbnb a while ago, and the Airbnb didn't have cookie sheets. It might have not had a spatula. So it might have been one I picked up at the grocery store we went to. And I like the cookie sheet a lot. But uh that spatula might have been one that I picked up for for cooking.
Every time you get that spatula or that cookie sheet out, you go, I like this cookie sheet.
It's so good. It's non stick, it's the perfect size, a good cookie sheet. I like it. Okay, but whose knife is that? Mine.
Do you ever think about like the random dishes that you've left at other people's house? No. And if you'll ever see them again. Oh, I don't. Like they're just longing for you.
Not a sweet channel. stranger's counter. Never, ever, ever thought about that. I Oh.
I wish I could go back with my other Tupperware friends. No. Not once have I ever been like, I hope that dish doesn't miss me. No.
No, but if there's like maybe you've left a knife that you liked at somebody else's house. I would never. No, if it was a knife you liked, you would make sure you got it. You are good about that stuff. Oh, you're so annoying sometimes. I'll never leave any. I always take my library books on time. I'm so responsible about everything. My rocket straps are perfectly rapped.
Whoa. Settle down on the criticism of me. And quit trying to give away my new knife.
We were texting with some friends, and I made a joke in our text group, and the text back was FBL. And you and I both went, What does that mean? What? Yeah. And we looked it up and it just provided a lot of acronyms that made no sense. Right. And I didn't want to ask because you don't want to be the dumb one in the text group.
It clicked in my head pretty quick. It took what? I don't know, 15 seconds. Yeah. And I went, ah, I got it. I got it. Full belly laugh. Full belly laugh. Yeah.
I produced a full belly laugh. Yeah. That's pretty good. That's different than an LOL. I agree.
A full belly laugh is like, whoa, you really you made me.
Oh Yeah.
you you made Santa Claus happen.
I was so happy. Yeah. That makes me nothing makes me happier than making people laugh. A full belly laugh. I like it so much. Yeah. Do you? I do. I told a joke at work the other day and the whole office laughed. And I went, aww Yeah. I felt like the queen of the world.
Where you're like, uh you felt like a clown fish up there, like with friends like you, who needs an enemies? And they were like, oh, good one, Chantel. That's so good.
Yeah. And then you kind of have to do that smug little thing where you're like, Yeah.
You're squinting. You're like, I'm just working.
I just swear. Nothing, nothing to see here. I just laid that funny joke down. Like it's everyday business. Oh, yeah. Is that what happened? I was so excited to produce a full belly laugh. Yeah. Full belly laugh. And I said my text response back was, yes. High fiber for me. Job well done.
It's a it's not often that you get to learn a new acronym. Right. Right. Right. I mean, you know, you work in one job for a while, you learn the lingo. Uh-huh. You get all the acronyms down. Yep. And then, you know, texting stuff is is like, you know, pretty basic. LOLs, B R Bs.
You know, all those usual things. T T FNs. People are still using that. W T G.
Way too go. Oh, okay. SMH. Shake of my head. Yeah. Anyway.
So learning a new one. Full belly laugh. Uh-huh. We're in it now. That's a wonderful one. We're so cool. It's a winner. It is. Have you come down from the uh high set yet? Never. Like you're still really up there excited about it.
Especially because these are some newer friends. And so we're still trying to like.
Yeah, and you're making people full belly laugh. Look at you.
I'm like, you just wait. This is you just wait.
You don't even know me. This is the new version. Oh, is that right?
They're not all nuggets of gold, but ain't that the truth?
My algorithm sometimes feeds me things that I go, oh, I didn't need I didn't know I needed to know about that. But I needed to know about that. And one of those things is Jimothy. Jimothy. Are you familiar with Jimmy?
Uh you introduced me to Jimothy, so now I am familiar with Jimothy.
So Jimothy is this raccoon in the Seattle area. Um he has a spinal condition. So he he has a strange look about him. But apparently he's healthy. He just has a lot of spine. Yeah. And so he is not a normal typical shaped raccoon-shaped raccoon. Correct. Uh he is a Jimothy-shaped raccoon. And if you uh are unfamiliar, you should look him up. It's like Timothy, but with a J. It's Jimothy.
Uh and he is been kind of adopted by the neighborhood where he lives.
People are taking care of him. A lot of people share pictures and videos of him when they spot him. People have begun creating art and sculpture of Jimothy. Yeah. One person said how cool would it be if the Avengers Doom Day post credit scene is Rocket Raccoon saying, Hey everybody, I called my cousin from Earth. Everyone meet Jimothy. I think that would be fantastic.
That would be awesome. There's a video of Jimothy as a baby that I've seen. People are getting tattoos of Jimothy. People have been making all kinds of fun stuff about Jimothy.
I just like that every so often, every couple of months, there's a new animal who takes the internet by storm. Yeah. So I just had to look up Punch. Yeah, Punch Punch.
He has Punch Doing. Because I haven't heard anything about Punch in a really long time. Yeah, That's right. He is he's still hanging out at the zoo in Japan. He is successfully integrating with his troop, and he's even making friends. He had a girlfriend at one time. I don't know if he's carrying around his his stuffed monkey anymore.
I don't think he's probably he's got a yeah, like a girlfriend there for a minute.
That's what I said.
You weren't listening. No, I was reading about Jimothy, so I could tell you more about him. Okay, what else do you know? Well, uh the space station posted on their um Instagram that uh photo of the Seattle area. Um it is an astronaut photograph taken from the ISS showing Seattle, Washington. And then they also said the iconic raccoon Jimothy has been spotted in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood, which is the top middle of this image. So just in case you wanted to know what the ISS was up to, they are also on the lookout for Jimothy.
Okay, here's what I know about Punch. Here's an update. What'd you find out? He doesn't, he's rarely seen holding his stuffed monkey, but that's okay because he's becoming an independent monkey these days. So he doesn't need his cuddle buddy anymore.
But it says that he's kind of grown into a big brother to a newer baby born in the troop. That's exciting. Isn't that nice? Yeah. Punch has become like uh older brother.
Isn't it? Isn't it fun how you become what you needed? Oh. As an adult, you become what you needed as a child. He's he's a buddy. What have you become? I don't know.
What did you need? Let's let's dive in. I don't even know.
People are making songs about Jimothy. Oh, yeah? Yeah. AI written. Uh no, like an actual band. Good. Uh we are going uh to a concert tomorrow.
Tomorrow for our anniversary. What's the band we're seeing? Jimmy World. Jimothy eat world. I mean, he's he's uh at the Seattle Mariners baseball games, they have uh a big thing up on the screen that says get loud for Jimothy. Jimothy's a celebrity.
And he doesn't even know it. I bet he's like I'm just out here trying to dig in some trash.
That is true. He's just just trying to be Jimothy. So anyway, if you don't know, now you know. If you don't know, now you know. Jimothy to the rescue. Gotta get him a cape. It'd be fun. He's like a superhero. He is a superhero. Anyway.
Jimothy and Punch. I hope they meet someday. Wouldn't that be fun? The adventures. It's a big trip for one of them. Unless they meet in the middle. Josh, on Thursday, we will have been married for 21 years.
Yeah. Here's the 21 more. Just kidding. What's up?
What uh I was just gonna say, I was gonna ask you what is one thing that you remember about our wedding. About our wedding? Yeah. Okay. I remember a lot. What do you remember?
Well, I you said one thing. Okay. So I'm just trying, I'm just trying to remember the better things.
Oh, it's remind me of some things.
Just tell me what you remember. Because There were gnarly mistakes. No, no, no. And that's what I said. I trying to try and put that away.
Nothing was gnarly.
It's not like it's gnarly enough, it still frustrates me to this day.
You it does not bother me, but it really does bother you.
I just I'm going to move on past that. It's been 21 years. I really need to let that go. But it until I get a chance to do it right or something. I need a I need a do-over on that part. That part really frustrates me.
Are you gonna share that part?
I don't want to because I'm just hanging on to it.
on to it. You just brought it up, though. Now everybody's wondering what it is. Now you have to. Listen.
We uh did our wedding on a budget.
Very big.
Our entire wedding was $1,500. I'm talking everything. Venue, catering, your dress, my tux rental, cake. Every bit of the wedding was $1,500.
Now we had some I'm proud of that. I'm proud of that too. But we also we had some help with our friends who were amazing. Yeah. Our friend offered to do our pictures for free. Right. Our friend offered to DJ for free. Our friend offered to, I mean, we had a lot of assistance. That's correct.
And on the point of the DJ, I had set up the rig because you like when you DJ weddings, which I've done and don't enjoy that much. You have uh the sort of a list of this is the wedding procession. This is, you know, this is the song the bride will come out to. When the ceremony is over, this is the song you walk back down the aisle to. I had two CDs, because this was 21 years ago. Why am I even bringing this up?
You're going to be able to do that. I had two C. You take it a long way to the well.
This is not the long way. This is the part that frustrates me. I had one that said wedding march and one that said processional, right? Like that's it. One is cued up for when you walk out, one is cued up for when the ceremony is done. All you have to do is hit play. It's super easy. Yeah, you had said it that's super easy. It's set up, it's done.
These only songs on these discs are these two songs. You walk out beautiful. Dad's walking you out.
You look amazing. The everything's playing. You it was a Canon D you walked out to the traditional thing. It was great. It was awesome.
You look great. We get up, we do the ceremony, we have fun. I do, I do, I do. Kiss kiss. We go to walk out. Some random country song. I don't know what it is. But we don't know. I've never heard this song in my life.
You had it set up for the beach boys. Because you really like the beach boys. Yeah.
I don't know what that song was. I can't let it go. I've held on to it for 21 years.
You really have. And you do not hold grudges, but that is the one grudge. It drives me nuts.
So every time, what do you remember about the wedding? I go, I had a great time. The whole thing was awesome. Everything was great. Now say except that one part.
What are some nice things you remember? How much how long did that take? I know. Jeez.
No, I loved everything. Everything was awesome. The every bit of it. Uh was fantastic. I just hung up on that one.
What I remember is that we really just wanted, we didn't care about anything else. We wanted to have fun and we wanted good food. Yeah. And we were like, that's where we want to focus our money.
We want dancing and we want really good food. Yeah. And we had that. We were so busy having fun. Like, I don't even remember seeing you a lot during our reception. That was a strange bit. Because you were off like
yeah we were mingling
with chatting with your friends, and I was dancing with my friends, and then every now and then I'd be like, Where's Josh? yeah but Yeah. But it was awesome. And then I do remember when we finally left and we went to our hotel for the night. I was like, I'm starving.
Yeah, well, then come to find out that we didn't eat anything.
I know the venue had actually prepared to go food for us. We just didn't know. And we were like, we're out of here, and the car had been decorated and whatever. So yeah, anyway, it was a really good time. I would I would do it again. I just would fix the one thing. Everything else was great. Everything else was. Everything else was awesome. Even the wood paneling inside the venue was great. Because it it's not there now, but it was great then. It didn't matter, did it? No. It was awesome.
None of that matters. We had good food, I think.
Well, we picked it up the next day. Yeah, our guests said it was good. Yeah.
And we had a lot of fun. So that's all that mattered. Right. Our two-year-old nephew danced his life away.
Yeah, he was he was the star of the show. I mean, just all night on the dance floor. It's awesome. Yeah. It was really good. Anyway. 21 years. Congratulations. Congratulations. Thanks for putting them up. 10 out of 10. We'd do again. You would? Yes. Nice.
We do this thing when we're together. Um I don't I don't know what you'd call it. You we just make voices for other people.
What are you talking about? We create. Oh, are you talking about Bev? I'm talking about adventures with Bev and Curtis. Bev and Curtis. Listen, we went on a walk around the Green Belt the other day. And there were uh what was this Sunday? Saturday? Saturday. Saturday. Saturday. And then Friday. Whatever day it was. We were walking around the green belt.
Yeah. And there were large groups of out of towners. A lot of families that were visiting and stuff, which I love to see. I think it's great. People go to the green belt, they wander around, they look at the falls, they're they are visiting.
I think it's cool, taking pictures, whatever. Uh there was a couple that were looking at all the little sculptures and stuff. And uh, and listen, I nicknamed them Bev and Curtis.
And I don't know why. I just I looked at them and I went, that's Bev and Curtis. And then uh we wander around pretending to be Bev and Curtis and talking about all the things that we see uh in different little voices. Yeah. Hey, Bev.
Bev and uh Curtis were from Arkansas.
That's right. We don't know them. The story we made up. We made up that Bev and Curtis were from Arkansas, and they had never seen the mountains. and they were really excited.
You are doing a great Bev. Go ahead with your Bev, and I'll be Curtis.
Curtis, you gotta get over here to look at these sculptures.
Beverly I just wanna sit down. My gout flair is acting up.
Curtis was not as into the sculptures as Bev was, clearly. Bev really wanted to look at all of the amazing uh we uh around the green belt, they have these uh animals, the sculptures, the sculptures of animals that have like greenery growing through them, and she's taking pictures, she's very excited, and she's like, Curtis, they have one with three bears, you gotta come see it. You're not gonna believe it. It's three bears.
Again, we don't know them. I don't know these people. Their names are probably not Bev and Curtis.
I have no idea where they were. they were from.
And they're probably locals. But we made up a whole Yeah. all Curtis wanted to do was go sit down and have dinner, but Bev was having heaven.
Curtis had his t-shirt tucked in his pants and his shorts, his jean shorts, and he had on tall socks. So that's why his name's Curtis. And he had on a little trucker hat, and he's a shorter guy, and he's just that's why I say he just looks like an Arkansas guy. Yeah. And uh and Bev really loves the art. But Curtis had had enough, and all he wanted to do was sit down in the shade or have a lunch. But Bev's like, no, we got 15 minutes till the reservation, Curtis, we're gonna be okay.
But Curtis was like, I can see the restaurant right there, Jalisco's is right there.
Jalisco's. We need to go sit down at Jalisco's. Look at all these cool benches, Curtis. They have all this art you can sit on. Look at it. This one is a fish and lure. Like that's how they are. I like them.
I love Bev and Curtis.
Bev and Curtis have a good time. They're on the town. So, you know, that's fun.
I have no idea who these people are. Meanwhile, we didn't have a single conversation with them. They were probably not from Arkansas. They were probably from Colorado.
I bet they were from Arco. Yeah. They're they're pretty local. They're regional folks in town for the weekend visiting family or something. But I love Bev and Curtis. Yeah. Bev loves sculptures.
I mean, we you and I were doing these voices, and Emery chimed in a couple of times. She was with us, and she chimed in a couple of times, and she was she was both Bev and Curtis at differing points in the story. Yep.
Could not believe the three bears. Anyway, if you're ever uh bored walking around the green belt. Just make voices, people. Pick a couple of people and make a story. It's fun. It's way more fun than people watching alone.
It is you go like, wait a minute. Let's give these guys names and a backstory. What are these two of us? Yeah, how did they meet? Bev and Curtis. I'll tell you how they met. Bowling league. Would you rather this or that?
Would you rather have a spouse that always steals your fries or always steals your blankets? I have that. Both. Hello.
How are you, Chantel? Nice to meet you. First of all. Oh, here we go. We're married. So what is yours? Is mine.
I don't always steal your fries. Uh-huh. I ask if I can have them. I don't steal them. Right. Second of all. First of all, if you want fries, order fries.
I don't want all the fries. I only want one or two fries. And you have fries. Yeah. I want all my fries. The place sells lots of fries. You can have all the fries you want.
If you order your own fries and only want one or two, you can take them for later. I'll heat them up. That's fine. Go ahead. Second of all, I don't steal all the blankets. Second of all. Prove it.
I don't know how. We were gonna record ourselves one night, remember?
Yeah, you wanted to, and I think it's creepy. You're like, uh, let's see what happens when we sleep. Do we like Toss and turn who has the blankets?
Who steals all the blankets? Right. Yeah.
And I went, no, I don't want to know.
Because what? Are you afraid of ghosts? No. I ain't afraid of no ghosts. Ray Parker Jr. What are you afraid of? Uh I don't know.
I mean, it's just feels weird. I don't I don't want to see myself. You know, the sped up like sleepy videos where they're all jittery. Yeah. I hate that. I don't want to see that. Then don't do that. But I feel like that's I'm not watching eight hours of tape in real time. No way. I'm gonna watch that on like 16 times speed, and it's gonna look all like that.
Hey Josh, what do you want? What are you watching? Uh just myself sleeping.
How long you've been watching this? Four hours. I'm halfway through. I'm not watching it in real time.
Four hours, you've got eight hours of sleep. I'm just assuming. Wow. Yeah. But I don't want to see that. The jittery. Oh, no way.
And then watch you like hitting me in your sleep. Like, hey. Gentleness. And then there goes all the blankets, and then I go, I just sit over there. And then I'm really shaken because I'm so cold.
That's exactly why we need to record this, because you would see once and for all that it's not a shove. It's not a push. It's a gentle, like a hey.
Oh honey. Come on. Honey. Sweetheart. You've never gross. You don't ever do that. Honey, sweetheart. No. I don't like the idea. Okay. Grosses me out. Okay, what are you picking?
Let's say I could get rid of one.
If you could get rid of one habit, fries.
You want me to not steal your fries?
You'd rather instill the blanket. I would rather you order your own fries. Oh, right. You can handle getting an extra blanket if I have to, but I can't get those fries back.
Yes, you can. Worse when it's tater tots. I go, oh. I Guess I didn't want that one. But you can have it.
It's fine. Would you rather this or that? Look at what I just got. I'm just scrolling along, minding my own business, and then my phone is like. I'm like, what is going on? And it's this uh it's this really nice snowy Christmas light scene with Christmas music playing. Why is my algorithm like here? Have winter. What's that about?
Because it's already in stores. I've seen it in stores.
Why is it in my phone? I didn't ask for that. I didn't say, hey, what's a winter feel like? I miss it. No, can't keep it away. I know. Shoo shoo. I know. You and your Christian.
Can I please just enjoy the season that I'm in? Yeah. I'm in this season of life. Oh. Let me stay here for a minute and enjoy it.
I'm in the season of life.
Dop pushing me to the next season of life. It's crazy. Looking at you, gray hair. Whoa, whoa.
Uh we were at the store, uh, and I and there were school supplies out, which I have no problem. It's school supply time. Yeah. Uh that's fine. All the barbecue stuff is getting put away, and all the school supply stuff took its spot. Yeah. Which bums me out because I'm not done barbecuing.
And all the garden stuff is put away too. Yeah.
Well, it's like, oh, it goes on clearance almost like some money. Yeah, true. Uh, which is fine. But then uh, as I as I'm wandering around the school supplies, I'm seeing hints of pumpkins and ghouls and ghosts and skeletons and all of that stuff. And I'm like, what are we doing?
And look, I worked on the planography team at Target, which was very cool. Uh set in shelves, and we would do the full resets for the seasonal sections. And so I know how it goes. Like all of a sudden, all the products in the back, and you're like, it's time to do the reset, and here comes all the stuff. And uh, and then you reset everything and you go, okay, it's Halloween now. Boom, and it just is like here.
Yep. So I'm saying, like, it's the 21st of July. I would imagine back to school stuff is gonna be done within three to four weeks tops, and it it will it will be full on Halloween in a month from now.
And that stuff will sit there. I agree with you until mid October and it'll get pushed. And before Halloween is over, we will have Christmas.
Oh, for sure. And I know there are like I know craft stores and stuff already have moved into Christmas. I've seen that. And that's that's because people want to make the crafts ahead of them.
All of the influencers and the crafters and the bloggers and they've got to like start preparing for that stuff now.
So I get why the craft stores are so far ahead, but just general retail, like they start pulling out the winter sweaters and the coats and stuff. I'm like, dude. Let's chill down. Settle down.
I just want to be.
to be in this season of life. I'm in shorts. Me too. Don't make me watch snowy winter scenes. It looked nice. I'm gonna, I'm not gonna lie. It was nice looking. It gives you the warm cozies. Yeah. I'm not ready.
I'm not ready either, but I've already vowed to myself that I'm gonna be nicer about winter this year. Are you? Yeah. That's nice. I'm always a little bit mean about winter and the cold, but I'm gonna try and enjoy it a little bit more this year. Okay. I get a little bit cranky during winter, but I'm gonna try and be nicer.
But like I'm still in like very much in my garden phase. I'm in my camping and hiking and going outside phase. I'm excited for fall fishing. That's when it really cranks up. Really excited about that. So there's a lot going on. I'm just hit the breaks a little bit. Exactly. It's still July.
I know. Let's just enjoy July. Yeah.
Let's go ahead and wrap up the show. Okay. Today is our Friday. We will not be in the studio for the rest of the week. We will be back on Monday. Uh, we are gonna celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. Happy anniversary. Happy anniversary. That's coming up on Thursday. Um, and so we're gonna we're gonna uh be out of town and enjoying our time together and all that fun stuff. And uh then we'll be back on Monday.
Plenty of stories to share, I'm sure. And uh, and that'll be fun. But for now, have a great rest of your July week, not December, whatever that was trying to show me. And uh we'll be back on Monday.
