Hey, guys. Welcome back to Flip of the Scope, the only MIPA run podcast about music off the beaten path. I'm MC Mark, and I'm here with the MIPA crew. Let's get into it.
Speaker 2:My name is Alexander Vello. I picked wooden chips by zero sun. The drummer of this band is the drummer in the cover band I'm in in Kalamazoo. I've I've been talking with him about this album that came out today, and it's kind of like a compilation of a lot of a couple of the singles that they've already come up with and then I think six or seven songs that are original that were first on this album and I listened to it on the way here in the car. I have no idea what wooden shifts means but I I really like the song.
Speaker 3:I feel like it kinda sounds somewhat similar to the song I picked. Not the same thing, but, like, kind of, like, with guitar intro kind of. So my name is Ava, and I chose Knockin' on Heaven star by Sophie Thatcher. No. It's a cover.
Speaker 3:Bob Dylan. Just kind of like relaxed more like laid back.
Speaker 4:Sophie Thatcher she's the chick from Yellow Jackets right? Okay yeah yeah okay okay I was like I was like this sounds familiar. Have you heard any other covers of Knocking on Heaven's Door?
Speaker 3:One of my personal favorites is the Guns N' Roses. They cover that as well. I'm sure there's a lot, but those are, like, these are, like, my two favorite.
Speaker 5:My name is Miles, and the song was Ensenada by Sublime. I don't know a lot about the song since it only came out recently, but Sublime is one of my favorite bands and has been for a while. So I found out they came up with a new song, and I always had a hard time listening to some of their new music because I don't necessarily like the way his son sounds compared to him. So the lead singer died and years later his son took over and started singing for the band. I think it sounded a lot more like their older songs.
Speaker 5:I think in some of the songs that he's released, he doesn't capture their old songs in the best way. Like, he's done covers of some of his dad's songs, and I just don't think he sounds the best sometimes. But I think as he got older, his voice sounds better in the music.
Speaker 6:Yeah. This is the first time I'm hearing this, but like straight away, I feel like I would if I if this turned on in the radio, I would be jamming along to it just like because it's something that like you just bop your head to. It's very has rhythm. It's nice. I like it.
Alex:My name is Alex and I picked Nightmares Are Real by Cordae. I don't really know like a whole lot about it but it has like a very like interesting message off just the start of the song and it kind of like explains his story going through like his journey and music creation as well.
Speaker 4:Yeah, it kind of reminds me of I think it's Dreams and Nightmares by Meek Mill, the name too. But even like in the production and the lyrics it sounded kind of similar so that's cool.
Speaker 6:I'm Bohm and I chose Francesco by Hosier. Okay so this song isn't like super new but it's relatively new and I like it a lot. It's, it's about like Dante's inferno like I'm not an expert on this it's gonna be if there's some deep literature literary like thing like really something deep but basically it's there's someone named Francesca someone loves Francesca and their love was so great they got sent to thing about this song is like I think like Francesca and like her lover got like sent to hell for like lust but the song itself is so like warm and like rather like like not like kind of like romantic in the sense that he just wants to hold her hand and be with her and you know it's like really more like not necessarily cozy but I guess it's just warm it's like
Speaker 3:a hug. Even if it's like kind of like a really deep subject or like most of his songs are either like they have a lot to do with like literature or concepts or they're like really political but I kind of like how it's not like it's a different story at the same time.
Speaker 4:I'm Tess and that's images by Mani and Tori Moe and someone I think four sixty five was on this too. I was watching old Nardwar interviews on the way down and there's this one with Tyler the Creator where he mentions Tori Moe and I was like I haven't heard Tori Moe in so long and so I looked Tori Moe up on Spotify and this cover he was featured on this song and I listened to Amani I think like in middle school with like Lil Yachty like broccoli like 2016 and I was like I haven't heard that in a hot second. And so I started listening to this album on the way here. Was like, wait. This is kinda good.
Speaker 4:I've never actually heard of
Speaker 5:these singers or the song before, but it was actually really good. I think the the vocals in the beat to it were, like, really nice. I think if I heard it on the radio, definitely be, like, be added to my playlist.
Booyah:Booyah.
Alex:And that's that. Thank you for listening to Flip a Descript brought to you by Impact eighty nine FM and the Moolca Crew. Catch y'all next time.
