Full show transcript:

I don't even remember

how this got brought up. Or why we were talking about this, but Emory just randomly said, How do you start a rubber band ball?

Well, we were at the store, and I was I was doing some silly voice or something, uh and I said something about a rubber band ball. And then she asked about it. Because I saw one at the store, and I and I said, Oh, look, a rubber band ball. Uh you need one of those? I don't even remember what I was making a joke.

I don't Oh, look at the rubber band ball. Yeah, who needs one? Like I felt like I was like selling stuff. Like I'm trying to remember what the voice. Maybe we're in the car. I think maybe we were in the car, and I was doing a character for some reason, and and he was he

is he was selling rubber band balls, and she was like, What? And then she was curious about how you even start one, and I said, Well, usually there's like a rock or a marble or something in the middle.

Uh which is a lie. Those rubber band balls are a lie. Why? Because it's not just rubber bands at all. Well, it has to have a core. Yeah, I know, but it should have a core of rubber bands. How? Roll one up? Yeah.

That's not big enough. It'll take you forever to build a rubber band. ball that big.

If you take like squish a whole bunch of rubber bands together, and then form your rubber bands around that.

Rubber band core. Yeah. But it's gonna take forever. Why? Because they're gonna try to do unrubber bandy things. They don't like to stay all in a ball. The second you put them in a ball in your hand, you open your hand and bloop, you got rubber bands. You don't have a ball sitting there. It's not malleable. They're made of rubber. Yeah. Yeah.

If you use a marble, like a big marble, or you use a piece of tin foil rolled up in a ball that needs something, settle down. It's not a lie. It is a lie. Just you need a core. You need a good core to wrap your first rubber band around. And then after you start wrapping them, and it gets bigger and bigger and bigger.

That's what I'm saying. You take rubber bands, A handful of them. Good luck. I'm gonna try it today. I have a whole bunch of rubber bands at work. Oh, you're gonna start a rubber band ball? At work, yeah. And then my boss is gonna say, What are you doing? I'm like, don't worry about it. Proven a point. This is for my other job.

Right. And you're gonna here's what's gonna here's what's gonna happen. So you're gonna go through this whole process of trying to start this rubber band ball. Uh-huh. You're gonna try three times, and it's not gonna work, and you're gonna go, forget it. I'll get a marble or a piece of tin foil. Uh-huh. No way, dude. Uh-huh. You don't know me at all. Uh-huh.

Yes, I do. I'm gonna I'm gonna see Neener Neener Neener. I'm gonna see this one through.

Yeah, you're gonna see it through four times. And then you're gonna go, no, it isn't working. But at least I tried one more time than he said I would. Mm-mm. So five times now we're up to five trials. Watch me. Okay.

Oh, now I'm so mad at you.

I'm gonna do it just to spite you. Yeah, I am. Except what's really gonna happen is you're gonna get busy or you're gonna forget, and I'm gonna go, where's that rubber band ball?

And you go, I couldn't be bothered. Or you're gonna try it, you're gonna fail and get frustrated, and then pretend like you didn't try at all because you lost interest in it. That's one of those two things is gonna happen. It won't be successful.

You don't know me. I do.

I do know you. All of the things I have said are 100% accurate to what is actually going to happen with this rubber band ball experiment. Tell me I'm wrong.

No, you are wrong. Really? Yeah, read about what part? All of it. Oh, yeah? I'm gonna make a rubber band ball out of rubber bands, solely. Solely rubber bands. And I'm not gonna give up. And I'm gonna try it, and I'm gonna keep going until I succeed, and then I'm gonna present to you a rubber band ball, and you're gonna be like, I'm amazed. And I'm gonna be like, I know.

You're gonna present a rubber band ball and take it apart and figure out what the core is made of. And it's not gonna be rubber bands. You go, see? I made it happen. And I'm gonna go, weird. Where'd you find the tin foil? And you're gonna go, no, no, no, I'm a rubber band ball purist.

I am a rubber band ball. Purist? Don't say that you're a rubber band ball and not be made out of rubber bands. Why are we arguing about a rubber band ball?

Because that's how we do. Ready for today's show? Here you go. Hi. Good morning. What's up? Hey girl. Hi. What's going on? Nothing. What's happening? Oh man. What's happening? I'm just happening. I got. What's happening? It was so smoky yesterday. Yes. I got that smoky voice.

Well, you got your smoky bear shirt.

Listen, because only you can prevent forest I can't.

There's too much pressure. I got too much to do.

Yeah. I don't even know how to put out fires. Do you know proper campfire safety? Yes. Yes. Okay. So where do you build a campfire?

In properly designated areas. Pre-existing.

Don't build your own just wherever you go. That's if there's one, you can use it. If there's one where there shouldn't be one, you shouldn't build one. You should disperse it. You should get rid of it. Thanks, Dad. Yeah. What about uh your car? What do you know about your car? Don't change the wildfire.

In togg dry grass.

Yes. And that counts for ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles. Thanks, Dad. Okay. What about trailer chains? Do you know about trailer chains?

Make sure they're properly hooked up so they're not dragging on the ground.

Because what happens when chains drag on the ground? They create sparks. That's right. And what are those sparks create? Fire. And half the freeway burns down. So thanks, Dad. What other fire safety tips do I have?

We're done. We're done with fire safety tips. All right.

It It's just it was so smoky yesterday.

It was very smoky yesterday.

And I'm glad it's a little bit more cleared up here today. Um I've been looking, if you believe this, I've been looking at smoke map forecasts. Wow. Want me to tell you about that?

Tell me more, please.

So I'm going on a big backpacking trip next week, and I'm gonna be in the Stanley area. And so I'm trying to look at uh what kind of smoke am I gonna be hiking in that part of the state because uh it's further west and it's higher altitude.

Uh-huh. So there's a good chance that it's not gonna be great hiking conditions with where smoke is concerned. You want to see a smoke forecast? Sure. Oh, I'll show you. It's pretty exciting.

Just tell me if you're gonna have a lot of smoke or not. That's all I need to know.

Well, as of right now, when I look at the 48-hour map, uh uh just the 48-hour forecast. There's uh there's a light haze over East Idaho. Um, and where I'm going, it's kind of more yellow. Oh but it's not bright red.

That's okay.

That's so that's positive. Let me let me just I've got to keep an eye on this as I get closer to the weekend. I leave on Sunday. So, you know, be careful with your stuff. Don't start fires, don't start fires. Are we in like uh red flag burn ban anywhere that you know of?

I do not know. We should be. I mean, yeah, we kind of should be. Anyway, be careful. And uh we're here.

Hey, good morning. Good morning. Hey, hey, hey, here's good news. You know Caitlin Clark. I do. So she is uh one of the most famous players in the WNBA. She grew up in Iowa. She went to college in Iowa, and she just returned to Iowa to make sure that hundreds of kids there head back to the classroom in style this fall. Caitlin.

Yeah, very cool. She has the Caitlin Clark Foundation. She teamed up with Des Moines Public Schools for the third annual back to school backpack event at Hoover High School.

About 500 local students walked away with brand new backpacks all filled with fresh school supplies, free books from scholastic, and snacks. Uh Caitlin uh said the following. She said, Reading and education have always been hugely important in my life. I remember picking out the books at the Schoolastic Flyer and how empowering that was for me as a child. a child. Why are you calling it Schoolastic?

That's what she says. Scholastic. Okay, whatever you elastic. Schoolastic.

It's the same word. Not school elastic. Yeah.

Scholastic. Go ahead. Keep going. Anyway, she said, I remember picking out the books from the schoolastic flyer and how empowering that was for me as a child and how motivated I was to read. She said, I want to help kids have the same experience to develop their reading skills and open their imaginations to dream big, which is really, really cool. So great. Uh yeah, that's uh it's pretty awesome. Um anyway, good for her and uh exciting for those kids. And uh that's good news. That is good news.

Our kids seem to think that we have put soap in their mouth for what did they say? For uh did they say naughty things, or we thought they said naughty things and soap in their mouth.

When I asked why, I didn't get a clear cut answer, but I know this did not happen.

I know this did not happen either because I didn't do that as a parent. We didn't do that as parents. Right. But our kids, both of them, I feel like they just watched it on TV or a movie. Yeah. Like the Christmas story, and they're like, oh yeah, that happened to me too.

So here's a little research I did on social contagion of memory and impaired source monitoring and a desire for consensus. I think they've made it up. That's what I think.

Uh it does say that uh sometimes there's a high emotional stress and trauma situation that can happen that can reduce the brain's activity to perform source monitoring, which is the process that uh that determines uh whether a memory came from personal observation or from hearing someone else talk about it. Yeah, that's what it is. I think that's what's going on. Now I don't know what the initial trauma stress thing was, or if they're just doing a goof, uh and they've just gone so far in on the goof that they now they believe it. Then now they believe it. Yeah.

Cause our son will do this too, where he's heard a story so much that he was like, No, I was there, and we were like, no, you weren't there. Right. He's like, I was. And I'm like, no, you just you've heard this story so much that it feels like you were there. Yeah.

And it says that if if a person or a a pair of people or even a full group undergo an intense emotional event, they often seek seek validation and a unified narrative, which causes members to unconsciously alter their own recollection to match the group. Uh, which I honestly I think something along the way happened and they got in trouble or something, and they decided, oh, they're gonna put soap in our mouths, which is not a thing we do. We did not. And uh and I'd like to ask them what kind of soap it was.

Let's get some details. Right. Was it bar soap or was it liquid soap?

Because there's no way bar soap ever happened. No. And liquid soap? Who does that? Taste this dish soap.

And how old were you? Like, give me more memories. They're five years apart. Uh-huh.

So the memory of even if Emory was five and Beck was ten, those are very different ages to remember something. We didn't put soap in their mouth. I know.

I don't know how I don't know what it's gonna take to convince them that that is not a reality. That's not a memory that's real.

Here's a real memory that neither of them will confess to. The thumbtack? The thumb tack in the pumpkin. You had a small pumpkin on display in the windowsill. Years and years. and years ago. Years and years ago.

Yeah, it's a long time ago. And you also hang up all your decorations with little thumbtacks. Yes. And someone stabbed your little pumpkin with thumbtacks. Uh huh. And no one will confess to it. And this has been a long time.

And they've each pointed each other out. Yeah, no, I didn't do it. Beck did. No, Emory did. Yep. Nobody will confess.

Someone put the thumbtack in the pumpkin, and I'm gonna tell you, when we solve that mystery, we'll figure out the soap thing. They're related, probably.

I think you put the thumbtack in the pumpkin. Nope. Everyone's a suspect.

I found the thumbtack in the pumpkin. Oh, did ya?

You found the murder weapon, did you? What? You found the dead body on the ground with the knife in her back. No.

I found the pumpkin with a thumbtack in the window.

Mrs. White in the parlor. Okay. A clue. A clue.

Anyway, I think they I think it started as a goof, and they've just uh honestly, they've had it running so long that they now uh they're convinced.

I know. Yep. Oh, look at us saying each other's sandwiches. That's so cute. No, Josh.

Saying each other's sandwiches. Quit saying my sandwich.

I don't know what started this argument, but we Oh, just me talking.

That's what that's what starts every argument. I start talking and you're like, no, that's not right. And I go, yes, it is, and then we're off work the we're after the races.

No, but really, you don't remember how it started.

I don't remember what we were talking about, but I was talking about all the many bread. And you said No. No.

because if you said that in that context, look at all of these breads. Yeah.

Yeah. See, now you're confused about whether or not I was right.

Because I said you said breads is the plural of bread. And I said, no, bread is the plural of bread. So I did some research. I knew you would. I knew you would.

And we're both correct. I know. I looked it up. If you can handle that. Because bread is an uncountable noun. So it doesn't have a plural form like the word breads. However, the word breads is used only when talking about different varieties or kinds of breads.

Right. Like look at all my breads. And my argument at the time was if you went to Great Harvest and you looked at all the breads, that's plural breads. And you said, no. No. That's all bread.

I don't think I sounded like that. You're right. You didn't. But close. It's a pretty close impression. If you had. Now if you had like a bag of bread. Yeah, those are slices. Slices of breads.

No. That's one bread. But slices of breads. No. So then if you had wheat bread, white bread, and jalapeno cheddar bread, and they were all sliced. Then you have slices of breads.

You can have a slice of different breads, yeah. Slices of breads. That's right. It's a variety. But if you just have a couple slices out of one loaf, that's slices of breads. No.

No, I'm just I'm gonna use it in plural form forever and always now. Two toasts. Two toasts. Two breads.

Two toasted breads. I would like two toasted breads. I would like raw breads, please.

That's dough. No. Yeah, it is. Yeah, I know. What kind of breads do you like? All breads. Oh, yeah? Yeah. What kind of breads do you like? Oh, rolls. Mm-hmm. Sliced sliced sandwich bread. Mm-hmm. French bread. Garlic bread. Mm-hmm. Brioche. Brioche breads. Yeah.

Hot dog breads, hamburger breads, pretzel breads.

We were just at a barbecue. Your nephew, five-year-old nephew. Yeah. Goes up to the onions, eats a big old chunk of onion. Yeah. And was like, he said it was too hot.

So he wanted it to be run underwater. Uh-huh. And then he ate the rest of it. Uh-huh. It was cooled off.

And then he just ate, he ate a hot dog bun and a hamburger bun. That's right. Two breads and an onion. It's a good podcast name. Two breads and an onion. Yeah, let's get a third person in here. And then two breads and an onion. Are we the breads? Yeah.

The third person's the onion. Yeah. That's fun. Two breads and an onion. Uh anyway. Yeah, it's breads. When there's multiple kinds of things. That's right. It can be. It can be.

The way you were using it was incorrect. I don't know about that. But it can be breads. If you go to Great Harvest. Look at all my breads.

Look at all these breads. If you go to the bread aisle. Lots of breads in that aisle. I want to go to the bread aisle. What do you want? Bread. Bagels? Yes. English muffins?

No, English muffins are no. No, thank you.

What about those uh those bagels with the raisins in them? Sure. I like those. No.

Stop making that face. I don't like it.

That's the raisins in my bread face. I don't like that. That's like pimento in my baloney. Who wants that?

Good guy Josh. Let's talk about good guy Josh for a minute. Sometimes you do things that are like nice. And I say, Oh, that was so nice, Josh. For instance, we're driving long in the car. Yeah. And we go to turn the corner and you take down your visor because you know the sun is gonna hit in your eyes the second you turn the corner. That's fact. And then you reach over and pull my visor down too. Uh-huh. Aw, indeed. That was so nice, Josh.

Well, I you were occupied, and I just thought I'm doing mine. I might as well do yours. It was nice. Oh, well. Good guy Josh. That's what I'm here to talk about.

What other good guy things? I don't do. Are there others? Give me a minute. Let me think about it. Okay. All right. I'll just be right here. You let me know when you're ready. Do you often do that where you preempt the visor? Or you go, oh, I can see that sun coming. Yes. You do. Oh, yeah. I never do that. You don't look ahead? Uh-uh. Only behind.

Oh, what? I only look where I've been. Never where I'm going. What does that mean? Look ahead. Uh we had been driving and uh and I had noticed that the sun when we went past some roads and some houses where there are gaps in between. I'd noticed it was kind of flashing me in the side of my face. Uh-huh.

And so I I was aware that when I turned to face it, it's gonna be in my eyes. Yeah. And so I just said, I'll just put the visor down now.

Then you thought, I'll put gentles down too. That's exactly good guy. That's a good guy thing to do.

I didn't think that's a good guy thing to do. I thought my hands already up, I'll just hit that one too.

You did it without even thinking you'd get any accolades for it.

That's how you're supposed to live life.

You really are a good guy. You're just supposed to do things that are nice for other people. But what about people who don't recognize that you're doing nice things? They are all over the place. I know. That's the only reason a lot of people do anything nice.

Well, I was just trying to keep the sun out of your eyes.

Success. You did it.

Great success. Look at that. So I I suppose you're welcome. That's that is a thing I did.

And I said, when you put it down, I go, Thanks, Josh. That was so nice. And Emory goes, What'd he do? What'd he do? I said he put my visor down. Yeah. So the sun wouldn't get in my eyes, and she went. Oh. She thinks we're gross. I know.

How gross that we like each other.

Stop it. Yeah. Stop hugging. So she says all the time. Stop hugging each other. Go away. Yeah. No. Look away.

Mind your own. That's what we always say. I do not. You do. Mind your own. Anyway. Uh I'll look for more little common courtesy things I can do like that.

You do stuff like that all the time. I really can't think of any right now. But I know you do. Them.

I like to uh drive away a little bit when you're trying to get in the truck. That's a nice thing they do.

You haven't done that in a long time. That was a fun time though. The kids always liked that. They thought that was hysterical.

They do it. Drive away, drive away. I go, No, I'm not driving away. And then you would. Sometimes. Occasionally. And they'd be like, yay, he's doing it.

Leave Mom by.

Yeah, She can't get in.

I wasn't there for this, so I don't have all of the context. But uh apparently something happened, and Emery said, peeping Thomas.

Oh, it's the funniest thing. I think she told it to the dog. Because the dog just sits there looking out the window all the time. Watching the neighborhood, alerting us of squirrels. This morning there were two squirrels in the front yard that were chasing each other around the tree, and she was having to come apart right after you left.

Okay. And she was barking like crazy at these squirrels. And then a dog walks by, you know, with a with a human uh on a leash and they walk by the city.

The human was on the leash. You know how it goes. And uh she goes crazy. And then if there's kids outside on their bikes, she goes nuts. She's just constantly peeping out the window. But go ahead.

I was gonna say Emery called her the peeping Tom.

Yeah, because when at night we draw the curtains in the living room, and she sticks her little head between the curtains, and she won't go to bed. No, she's she's just watching the neighborhood all night.

Making sure everything's safe. And so we have to put uh a pillow up to hold the curtains closed so she knows like it's bedtime. Quit watching your show. Go to bed.

Oh, turn off the TV. Right.

Uh and so I think at one point the dog was just standing there with her head between the two curtains and um and every said, quit being a pot a peeping Thomas. I said, a peeping Thomas.

You used his full name. Peeping Tom. What do You mean a peeping Thomas? I like peeping Thomas. I do too. I think it's hilarious. So I don't know where that came from if she made it up or if it comes from something, but it made me laugh.

Always calling. That's what we keep saying. We keep calling everybody a peeping.

Anytime you go for a walk around the neighborhood and you're trying to see inside people's houses. What are they watching on TV? Quit being a peeping Thomas. Stop it. Thomas J. Oh. Oh.

That's my girl. Yeah. That's a different one. He was not a peeping Thomas.

You don't know that. Might have been. Well, he couldn't see without his glasses. I know that much. So if you didn't have his glasses, he was he was a not a peep in anything.

It was an unpeeping Thomas. That's right. Where did Peeping Tom come from? Oh.

I'm sure it's a long time ago. There was a guy named Tom who was a little bit of a peeper. That's probably where it came from. I know where it came from. Lady Godiva. The chocolate? Lady. Yeah. Okay. She rode her horse through the town. Right.

To force her husband to lower taxes. Right. And she told all the people in the town to stay inside and close their window shutters so that no one could see her because she just was unclosed.

Nude, yeah. You know this? Yeah. I don't think I've ever heard this. Yeah.

And then there was a local tailor named Tom.

Oh, Tom.

Who couldn't resist. And he peeked through a hole in his shutters to watch her pass. Tom. And he was instantly struck blind. This is what the legend says. Okay. For breaking the rule.

Well, it's what you get for being a peeping Thomas.

Thomas.

Don't be a peeping Thomas. That's the rules.

Um, okay. So we had a barbecue over the weekend. Yeah. Uh at your mom's. And she you said this is all of my comfort foods.

These I haven't had a like a lot of the barbecue foods in a long time. So there was homemade macaroni salad, there was homemade potato salad, there was uh pork and beans, ruffled chips. There are so many things that I was just I was like, this is a barbecue from my childhood. I felt real at home. Yeah. It was nice. I liked that for you. Yeah.

I did not like the pork and beans and chips.

You at least you tried it.

When we were first dating, the first time I went to like a barbecue at your house. Yeah. You guys had cold pork and beans.

and ruffled chips. Not baked beans. Let's be clear. This is pork and beans from a can and ruffles potato chips.

And I went, oh no. And it's just like a dip. Like a dip. That's right. Just say it like that.

Using ruffles potato chips with pork and beans is a popular budget-friendly comfort food combination, prized for its salty sweet flavor and contrasting crunch. This is a real thing.

I know you loved it. That's not my favorite snack.

That's a it was a good one. But I'm happy that you got to have that. Yeah.

We also had there was uh pasta salad. There was like a macaroni salad, and I was like, ooh, that looks good. I put it on my plate, and I saw some little hairs in there, like some little fibrous hairs. And I go, I looked at it and I went, They're not hairs. No, there wasn't hair. I go, is this tuna fish? Yes. And her mom goes, yep, it's for the protein. And I went, no, the eggs are for the protein.

And that's a good salad.

And then I got real sad because I didn't want tuna fish in it. It's very good. But I had already put it on my plate, and so I did like a sad thing with my spoon.

But then you ate it. It was good. It is good. It normally, I it normally I I said out loud, I said, doesn't this have peas in it normally? And she's like, it has veg all, so whatever.

You get what you get. It's like fruit cocktail. That's like you you know, if you have the fruit cocktail, somebody gets the one cherry. So I didn't get I didn't have peas in my spoonful, but they were

probably I didn't have peas in my spoonful either. Yeah. My family, my sister specifically loves onions, and so they she puts gods a ton of onions.

and everything. Your mom does not like onions. Correct. And so as we're sitting there eating, you said not an onion in sight.

No, there's not a single one. There's no onions in any of this. So you know, it's not your sister's barbecue. It is not. Nope. It was fun, though. That was kind of cool to have some of the I gotta I gotta look up that uh macaroni salad, see if I can find that that recipe. Yeah, let me see if I can find it. Why why? Why, Josh? I don't know.

Josh, are you gonna make it? Could you leave out the tuna fish?

Josh. It's a it's a classic veg all salad. Classic. Yeah, it's it's just uh it's just like a tuna salad with the macaroni in it. It's good stuff.

And no onions. Correct. Not an onion in sight. No. But I was real at home.

I it really, I was like, this is this is backyard barbecue.

Yeah, yeah. I was very familiar. Very comforted. Yep. That was fun. It was fun.

And thanks for trying the beans and ruffles.

I did try them. I've tried them before. Yeah. And I didn't like them then.

Beck didn't like it. Emery wouldn't try it. I'm not sure. Beck went, no. I went, you're missing out. More for me.

He was turned off that it was cold. You should try it. He goes, pork and beans need to be warmed. I said, no one should be eating pork and beans. They're good.

Plus, similar to fruit cocktails, somebody gets the one pork. Oh, stop it.

I was watching a TikTok a couple of weeks ago, and there was a dude that was riding his bike, and he was kind of like a surfer, dude. And he was just chill and relaxed, and he was on the beach. But it goes, I'm here with my hottest homie.

And he pans to his girlfriend, wife, whatever. And I loved it. Hottest homie.

You're my hottest homie. Yeah. And so I made a post about our anniversary on my uh social media pages.

Yeah. And I said, Emory, what do you think about this? I think I said, uh, I had the best time with my hottest homie. And Emory read it and she went.

Your hottest homie.

Your hottest homie? Yeah. Who's that? I go, it's dad. Right. Dad is my hottest homie. And she goes, Did you post that? And I said, Yes.

Look, I'm proud to be your hottest homie. Oh. That's nice. That is nice. I have a lot of homies. Well. I have a lot of hot homies. I was gonna say, if I'm the hottest, you're hanging out with some questionable folks.

From some with some Uggos.

Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah. I wasn't gonna say it. I was not gonna go mean. I just was saying, if I'm the top of the hot list, you got some you got some bad looking peeps.

Nope, that's not it at all. Okay. I got some hot hotties. Some hot hottie homies. Yeah. But I am the hottest homies. You are the hottest homie. Okay. Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool.

I don't hang out with no Uggos. Hey, hey.

Take it down. Notch. That's aggressive. Doing too much. I always do. Hey, hey, easy. Yeah.

She didn't like it. She didn't like that. I called you my hottest homie.

I think uh she's embarrassed by how much we like each other. Like each other. I think I think she has a hard time with that. I don't know why. I don't know why. Can you imagine if I didn't like you? It'd be terrible time. Why? I'm just glad I like you. Same.

It would make some good radio though.

If if we didn't know, if we did like each other and we had to hang out.

That would make terrible radio. Every four hours. Everything would be fake. We'd have to like mm like mud our way through everything. Ugh. Just to have a conversation. No way. No. Be terrible.

We always be nitpicking each other. I mean, we kind of do that anyway.

Not in the same way, though. Not if we not if there was dislike. Yuck. I dread coming to work all the time. Not just because it's early in the morning, but because it was with you.

We just spent from a coworker. We had a coworker stop by and he said that he was talking to you yesterday, and he goes, I don't know, go ask that chick that you work with. Yeah. And I went, oh, really?

He goes, she's a lot. And he's like, I don't know how you do it. You gotta live with it and you bring it to work. I didn't appreciate him calling you it.

Did you stand up for my honor?

No, I sat here and listened to him and let him get his whatever out and then let he walked away. And it was fine. I'm sure there was nothing to defend.

I'm sure there's a lot of people that are like, you have to live with her and work with her.

I get to live with you and I get to work with you. It's a treat. Yeah. I know. You're my hottest homie. Same, buddy. Same.

We went to see Hades Town in the theater. Yeah. Because they are doing uh similar to Hamilton where they've recorded the stage production of the musical.

And turned it into a film. Uh and uh here's here's this one was a little bit different uh than Hamilton in that you got a little bit of kind of behind the scenes stuff before and after, which was kind of neat. Um and then it it ran the whole thing. I was thinking about it as we were sitting there. I was like, normally when you go see a theatrical performance, it's two hours or more, and they take a 15-minute or 20-minute intermission in the middle. And I was thinking to myself, are they gonna do that in the theater? Um because that would be like go get a snack, use the restroom, whatever, get ready for act two. But they didn't, they just transitioned end of act one into act two. Um so I like that they kind of signified where that break would be.

In Hamilton, they actually stop for a time. Um, and I think maybe they've removed that, do you think? Or do they still have the intermission in the middle of it? I don't know. I don't I just you get the big Washington's coming home thing and then intermission, right? Is that where that's at?

No, I think it's uh I can't remember. The rumor happens I think it's a rumor happens.

Yeah. Anyway, the the point is I was a little bit like uh the I'm in the theater mode in my head watching the performance, so I'm expecting theater things, and I noticed that like even in between like in theater acts uh or in in uh in theater etiquette, like when scenes happen and there's a transition, like people will clap for that scene, and the audience in the film was clapping, the theater wasn't, but there was one person in the row, like couple in front of us that was like quietly like I know doing the city.

Well, and I kind of wanted to too, because there were times I was like, this feels like a theater like a live theater. Right. You had never seen it before. Emery and I had seen it for the first time. There was a uh local teen production that had put on Hades Town, I think back in February. Phenomenal. They did such a phenomenal job. And I had never seen it before.

And you knew nothing about the story or anything, right?

Blown away by these teenagers, these they who did phenomenally, and so then I was super excited to see professionals do it.

And this is the original cast that uh was in the film, right? Some of them. Oh, okay.

I don't know if it's everywhere. I don't know.

Okay. No, that's fine. But it was it was really, really cool. A cool story. Uh the I would like to see that live because the way the production works and and some of the tech. I'm like, this is amazing.

I just love that they're recording, they're doing live stage recordings and putting them out so that people like us who can't afford to or don't have the time to go to New York to see. No kidding. Live theater all the time. Right. Have access to it.

Right. The next one that we're going to see is six, which we have seen live. Correct. We saw that in Boise a few years ago. Um, and now we're gonna uh be able to see that one in theaters, and six is awesome. It's about the the six wives of Henry the Eighth.

VIII. So good. Uh so that's a lot of fun.

Really looking forward to that. But that one is the West End cast. Yes. Uh so that will be the London's Broadway cast, which I think will be it'll be good. But they they sing some of the songs differently than the US cast does. So it'll be cool to kind of see some of that. Um, but anyway, uh I really like that they're doing this too. I do. Like there's so much great theater that people don't necessarily have access to.

So uh this is an affordable way for people to get access to it. I agree. And I love it. Yeah. Um, also, I had taken a nap before we had gone to see the movie, and then as we were going to the theater, Emory told me that I had a rat's nest. Yeah, you had like a ponytail thing, and your hair was a little bit

all over the place in the ponytail. And she said she tried to like help you, but her hand got stuck, so she just gave up. Is that what she said? Yes. So you you had Rat's Nest Ponytail for Hades Town?

And I went to the theater a little bit.

Yeah, that's right. It's dark. No one knows. Nobody knows. You look great.

No, I look like I just gotten out of Hades Town. Oh, is that right? Yeah.

Yeah. I've been there. Uh really, really good show though. I know. Yeah.

Would you look back if I had to follow you? And you couldn't look back.

I told you I would have a lot more questions. I wouldn't just go, ah, it's a deal. Let's shake on it. I would have a lot more questions about the the particulars.

You absolutely would. You would find it.

The very first question is where's the finish line? Yeah. When I cross the finish line, we're done, right?

And do we both have to crash the cross the finish?

Right. I would have many, many logical questions before I walked out of there with a handshake. Anyway. I'm just I'm just that kind of guy.

You don't make deals with Hades.

That is correct. You never do it. You never do it. House always wins.

We have a five year old nephew. And part of my job as an aunt, and I've done this for all of my nieces and nephews, is to teach them the bad stuff. The terrible behavior. Yeah. Mostly.

It feels like that's the thing. You're you're like, you know what? What's real fun is to is to not listen to your parents. Yeah. You know what's real fun?

I'm kind of always like a lot of people. All you're doing is getting them in trouble. Like, what are you doing? He's there. My sister's there. His dad's there. Everybody's around. And you're like, hey, you know what? When they tell you to do something, you just say no. You know what's more fun than doing the thing they want you to do?

Is to tell them no. He had like nothing to do with you. He went. He was like, why are you telling me to do the bad things? He really recognized the behavior and went, Why are you telling me to be me?

Yeah. We were we were, it was getting later in the evening, and I said, Oh, and we gotta go to bed. And then I went, I don't want to go to bed. And then I said, Hey, hey, Isaac, come here. And I go, When your mom tells you to go to bed tonight, you slam your fist down and he said, No, I'm not going to bed. Yeah. And I don't want to take a bath either.

But he was like, no, that sounds like a good time. Like I would like a bath and to go to bed. I like going to tire. I'm tired.

And then he turned to his mom and said, I want to go to bed, mom. Yeah. I'm not gonna say that. And she was like, good job, buddy. And I was like, you're the worst kid I ever met.

No way. He's the best kid. Because he was not being influenced by your bad behavior.

Right. And then I said, and then Isaac, you can slam your fist down and say, You're not the boss of me. And he said, No, I'm not gonna say that. And I went, oh. Right

Why are you trying to make me say mean things? Which is funny because if you did this with your nieces, they'd be like, okay, I'll go do it right now. Yeah, I did. I did that.

I'm gonna go to the table. when they were little I'm going to go tell them right now Good kid. He's a good little kid. He's he did everything he was supposed to. And he wasn't impressionable. He was no, I know exactly what I'm supposed to do, and I'm gonna do it. Yeah. Oh well. All right, good job. Good head on him. He did.

No, you're trying to peer pressure me and get me in trouble. He recognized it. He was right away. He's he's like, I gotta keep an eye on you. You're trouble.

You are trouble. Yeah. I'm gonna see myself out. Yeah. I can't hang out with you anymore.

Yeah, nope. You're a bad influence.

I am a bad influence. No.

He puts his hand up. No. We are not gonna be friends. You are not a good friend. You're trying to get me in trouble. Yeah.

I said, Yeah, you're right. We should all go to bed, but going to bed is the best.

I mean, sleep is awesome. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Did you see? Uh I don't know. This is completely uh a tangent. Did you see they were talking about uh like aliens? This was Neil DeGrasse Tyson was talking about aliens.

You totally went on a tangent. This has to do with sleep. And he said, like, we know nothing about other potential life forms. And he said, What if they don't sleep the same way that we do?

And they don't know about sleep. And so we we go, well, hey, I've got to go lay down. I gotta power down. Go into like a coma.

Uh I'll be unresponsive for like six or eight hours, and then I'll be back and we'll continue where we left off. Like, what a weird, strange thing. I gotta how do you explain that? Like it's the the sun went down, like we it's dark, so I'm gonna go lay down.

Yeah, we power down.

I'm gonna go, don't try to talk to me because I won't hear you for like six or eight hours, and then I'll be back. It'll be fine.

And then we can play again. Right. We'll be up and at him.

Like, that's gonna be weird. Anyway. It's funny. Going to sleep's the best. It is the best for human life forms. Yeah, like going to sleep. Now, however, they recharge, it could be something else. Maybe like, oh, we just have to look at the sun for 15 minutes and we go, I'm good to go. Like, okay, cool. I want that. Give me that. You imagine the stuff I could get done.

If you just had to stare at the stun for 15 minutes and then you were energized again for the whole day. That'd be awesome. Wouldn't that be cool? Yeah. Yeah. You could get so much done. But then what? When the sun goes down. On that part of town. Yeah, then what?

Well, no, I would have recharged during the sun times. And so then you're just awake all night? I was awake all the time. Oh. I had a 15 minutes to recharge my entire self. I just had to stand there and let the sun do its thing. And then I went, okay, good. Good to go. I'm solar powered. I like sleeping. I do too. Sleeping is the best. It is awesome.

Hey, little kids, listen to your parents. Don't listen to your crazy aunts.

Yeah, don't listen to your crazy hand. She's trying to lead you astray. Would you rather this or that?

Would you rather our children inherit your best quality or my best quality? Okay.

What's your best quality? Here we go. No. This is gonna take 45 minutes. What? Let's settle in for a 45 minute long conversation because I we gotta get to the bottom of qualities before we can pick.

I'll tell you what they inherited from me.

Punctuality is a great no, I'm not saying they inherited that. Our daughter, certainly. Yes. But that's a great quality. Yes.

Um I'll tell you what they did not inherit from me. Okay. Uh, and I wish that they had inherited from you is uh from me. No, they inherited it from me, but I wish that they had not, and I wish that they had looked at you. Okay, just say I will just say they have anxiety, they're a little bit fearful of a lot of things. Okay, and they definitely got that from me. Whereas you are just like, you're cool as a cucumber in most situations, and you're just like what happens happens. If it doesn't, it doesn't. If it doesn't, it doesn't.

feel a little A little like why worry about stuff you can't control.

And I wish that they had inherited that. They inherited mine that was like, uh what if this happens?

Yeah, they spend a lot of what time doing what ifs. Well, what if what if they say no? Well, then what happens? Well, then they said no. Okay. And it's gonna be okay, isn't it? They got that from me. Yeah. I wish they hadn't.

I wish they and I tell them all the time, I'm like, don't do that. Look at dad. Go follow dad's traits.

Okay, so let's let's just to keep it easy and short. Sure. Because this could get out of hand. Yes. Let's put your punctuality. Okay. It's a great trait. Yes. That uh my sort of uh we get there when we get there, drives you crazy. Yeah. Uh so let's put punctuality next to uh not overthinking things. Okay. Which would you rather the kids have? Not punctuality or not overthinking.

I would rather they not have the overthinking. I'd rather they be late than not overthink everything. Okay. Because I do that, and it's a terrible place to be in your brain. Okay.

So well, I will go with you if we're comparing these two things. Okay. Because I'm sure there are many others. But let's uh let's keep it easy breezy. It's already been three minutes.

It's not really we could spend a long time picking this one apart. We always do. I know. I'm gonna go with you on that. We're gonna go with uh don't overthink. Got it.

Would you rather this or that? So I am uh headed into the Sawtooth Mountains next week for a uh big long week-long backpacking trip. It's gonna be a lot of fun. I'm I'm super excited. I've been doing a lot of planning for this one for a lot of months, and uh and this is gonna be a good time. I'm just hoping uh the smoke isn't so bad because hiking in the smoke is gonna be a struggle.

Miserable. It's gonna be a great week. So as I'm kind of getting prepared, uh, we were out of town uh a good portion of last week and over the weekend. We were just uh I really disconnected from social media a lot.

Me too. I didn't kind of just was hanging out with you. It was good times. It was awesome.

And uh, and so one thing that I missed that I got caught up on yesterday, I just sent it to you on Facebook. The Boise County, the Boise County Sheriff's Office posted um this whole thing about the grand gene campground and trailhead area. Now, this is part of the sawtooths, but this is on the boisey side of the mountains, not the Stanley and uh and Ketchum side. So this is not where you're gonna be. Well, so this is a trailhead system that leads to Sawtooth Lake, which I am going to, but this is on the other side of the mountain on the west side of the mountain range, not the east side.

And I'll be on the east side, uh hiking in. But they had a crazy fire back in 2024 that removed a lot of the trees and and foliage and stuff, and they got hit with flash floods um on like on our anniversary on the 23rd. Um, they got hit with a major amount of rain. And because of all of the burn area in 2024, these massive mudslides came through in this flash flooding, and people had to evacuate the campground in the trailhead area like immediately. And uh you can see in these photos, there are trucks and campers and side by sides.

And they are pictures. Look how buried they are.

They're buried to like the like the tops of the doors. Like they are it's crazy.

Because more than 12 parked cars and trucks belonging to backpackers were smashed or buried in mugs and logs. There were no injuries or fatalities. So that was great. Holy moly.

Yeah, a lot of insurance claims coming out of this one. Uh, really, really wild. Uh it's so crazy to see. Um, but anyway, uh, that campground, the Grand Gene Campground, is closed until further notice. It will be a long time before they're able to get this all cleaned up. But it's so crazy to see.

I mean, they're just like there's there's a really nice looking Tacoma here with the roof rack and like it's a good looking truck buried, just buried and broken and uh it's just wild. I can't believe it. I know that's insane.

Yeah, isn't that wild? When did this happen? Uh on the 23rd. Okay. Yeah.

On our anniversary. Yeah. And it just came through and pushed everything around. And uh it's the pictures are just astonishing to me. Yeah, that's I mean, I know water has power, but look at the boulders that were moved. And like it's powerful. Very, very powerful. Um, but that's in the area that I'm going to be backpacking together.

Did say that they finally did reopen the Grand Gene and Banner Summit. So they have reopened the State Highway.

Yeah, the highway was closed too because of mudslides. They had to move a ton of dirt to get that highway open. Um, but that reopened. And again, I'm just I'm fortunate that we'll be on the other side and that this has already, you know, happened and passed. And uh, as of now, there's no rain in our forecast. But uh, that is super super crazy. I can't imagine being caught in that flash flooding like that is pretty pretty crazy. So anyway, be careful out in nature. It's a lot of fun. I like going on adventures. Uh, but boy, is that a scary one.

Well, it everything can change in a matter of seconds, just like the wind at the art festival of the weekends.

No kidding. It's crazy. Uh, anyway. Wrap up the show, huh?

Jeez Louise. Wait a burn down the moon.

I just thought it was kind of fascinating. It is fascinating. Yeah. If you haven't seen the pictures, they're on East Idaho News.com. You can see them. Um, have a great rest of your Tuesday. We'll be back tomorrow. What's tomorrow? Wednesday.

Wednesday. Yeah. We're almost halfway through the week. Yes, we are.

Isn't that cool? All right. We'll see you back here tomorrow. Have a good day. Goodbye.
