I'm Rick, and today Emma, Lars and I are sitting here in a cozy café talking about something that might seem a bit technical, but trust me, it's everywhere. We're breaking it down in super simple Dutch so you can follow along. Let's dive in!
Rick: "Hé! Moet je horen. Ik lees iets op NOS."
Emma: "Oh nee. Rick heeft weer de hele NOS gelezen."
Rick: "Nee maar serieus! India doet een volkstelling."
Lars: "Een volkstelling? Wat is dat?"
Rick: "Ze tellen alle mensen. Alle mensen in India."
Emma: "Oh. Hoeveel mensen zijn er in India?"
Rick: "Heel veel. Heel, heel veel mensen."
Lars: "Hoeveel dan?"
Rick: "Meer dan één miljard mensen."
Emma: "Eén miljard?!"
Lars: "Dat is veel."
Rick: "Ja! Het is de grootste volkstelling ter wereld."
Emma: "Wauw. Echt waar?"
Rick: "Ja echt! Het staat op NOS."
Lars: "Oké. Maar hoe doe je dat?"
Rick: "Wat bedoel je?"
Lars: "Hoe tel je één miljard mensen?"
Rick: "Tja... goede vraag."
Emma: "Dat is een heel groot probleem."
Rick: "Ja! Precies. Een heel groot probleem."
Lars: "Ik tel mijn sokken al verkeerd."
Emma: *lacht* "Hahaha! Ja jij wel!"
Rick: "Jij telt twee sokken en je zegt drie."
Lars: "Dat klopt. Ik ben slecht in tellen."
Emma: "En India telt één miljard mensen. Wow."
Rick: "Nee maar serieus. Hoe doen ze dat?"
Lars: "Met een computer?"
Rick: "Ja misschien. Maar het is heel moeilijk."
Emma: "Er zijn ook mensen in de bergen, toch?"
Rick: "Ja! En in kleine dorpen. Overal."
Lars: "En in de stad?"
Rick: "Ook in de stad. Overal mensen."
Emma: "Uhm... hoelang duurt dat?"
Rick: "Lang. Heel lang."
Lars: "Een jaar?"
Rick: "Ja, of langer."
Emma: "Dat is veel werk."
Lars: "Ik wil die baan niet."
Rick: "Hahaha! Nee jij niet."
Emma: "Jij telt al niet goed."
Lars: "Precies. Ik ben niet goed voor die baan."
Rick: "Nederland heeft ook een volkstelling. Maar die is klein."
Emma: "Ja. Nederland is klein."
Lars: "Hoeveel mensen zijn er in Nederland?"
Rick: "Zeventien miljoen."
Emma: "Dat is veel minder."
Lars: "Ja. Zeventien miljoen is niet één miljard."
Rick: "Nee. Dat is heel anders."
Emma: "En Nederland is zo klein op de kaart."
Rick: "Ja! India is heel groot. Nederland is een stipje."
Lars: "Een klein stipje."
Emma: "Hahaha. Ja, een klein stipje."
Rick: "Maar goed. Nederland is goed. Het is fijn hier."
Lars: "Maar jij woont in Azië, Rick."
Rick: "Ja. Ik woon in Azië. Maar ik lees NOS."
Emma: "Jij leest altijd NOS."
Rick: "Ja. Dat klopt."
Lars: "En NU.nl ook?"
Rick: "Ja, NU.nl ook. En meer."
Emma: "Je bent verslaafd aan nieuws."
Rick: "Tja... misschien wel."
Lars: "Misschien? Zeker weten!"
Rick: "Oké oké. Ik ben verslaafd. Maar dit nieuws is goed."
Emma: "Het is wel interessant. Één miljard mensen tellen."
Lars: "Ik snap het niet. Hoe begin je?"
Rick: "Gewoon beginnen. Één, twee, drie..."
Lars: "Tot één miljard. Dat duurt lang."
Emma: "Heel lang. Jaren!"
Rick: "Ja. Misschien twintig jaar."
Lars: "Dan zijn er al meer mensen."
Rick: "Ja! Precies! Meer baby's."
Emma: "Oh nee. Dan begin je opnieuw."
Rick: "Hahaha! Ja! Opnieuw beginnen."
Lars: "Slechte baan."
Emma: "Heel slechte baan."
Rick: "De comments op NU.nl zijn nog erger."
Emma: "Wat zeggen de mensen?"
Rick: "Van alles. Heel veel van alles."
Lars: "Nederlanders hebben altijd een mening."
Rick: "Ja. Over alles. Ook over India."
Emma: "Typisch Nederland."
Rick: "Typisch Nederland, ja!"
Lars: "Nog koffie?"
Emma: "Ja! Graag."
