What do you think about when a creator says, I manifested my first brand deal. Welcome to the Muthership Creator Strategy. I want to focus today on what manifestation really is because the stories that are told online don't give the whole picture. They don't give the background to how did that brand deal actually happen. Did the person just sit in their apartment or their house and think about getting a brand deal and then suddenly it landed in their lap?
Helen:Probably not. They're probably leaving out a whole lot of information about what led up to it. All the work they put in, maybe the DMs that they sent to brands, maybe they posted on some of these brand websites, maybe they sent media kits out, They took the time to make a media kit. There is motion involved in manifesting. You cannot just think about something and it happens, and I will caveat that by saying a lot of times I'll think about a person and then they call me and I always think, oh my god, I just made that happen.
Helen:And I believe in it. I believe that we have higher powers that we don't always tap into. That's for sure something that I am, strongly a believer in. But when it comes to making change in your life or thinking about something and then thinking it into existence or thinking about getting well when you're not well, and then you slowly start to get well because you start to believe you are gonna get well. So I do think manifestation is absolutely real, but I think what happens on the online, on the Internet, on videos, when people just talk about manifesting, like all you have to do is say these words every night and this thing is gonna happen.
Helen:I don't think I'm gonna get behind that as a strategy. I don't think manifestation really is powerful and possible without motion. So I wanna talk about that and how you can manifest something by not just talking about it, by making steps even if those steps aren't directly related to the thing that you're manifesting. So I'm gonna go back to this is a very weird, couple of things I wanna speak personally on. When I first thought about making a creator community, long before I even did it, when it was just like a rum a ruminating thought, I was like, oh, I'd love to have my own app.
Helen:I remember specifically thinking, I wanna have an app in the App Store, but I didn't even know what that app could be. And it was just like a fleeting thought, and I I don't know. I I remember it clearly having it because I actually said it out loud to someone at the time. So do I think that I manifested it because now it's happening? I am gonna have an app as in mid August it's gonna launch?
Helen:I don't I didn't even connect the dots. I barely remembered that I said this back then. But I didn't sit and wait for the option to land in my lap that an app was happening. I have taken the steps. I have started a community.
Helen:I tried one platform. I didn't really like it. I moved to another platform. Julie and I worked together tirelessly to make the studio what we wanted it to be. Okay.
Helen:Now there's too many things. Let's, like, simplify it. All of the things we've been doing to lead up to this opportunity of having an app was not I was not just sitting at my desk thinking about it. That's not how manifestation works. So I think what we are subject to is a lot of Internet, like Dululu is the salulu.
Helen:Speak it into existence. There's people that do vision boards, and it's Manifestation Mondays. And there's success stories that are retold almost backwards. They didn't just sit there and manifest it. They probably posted 400 times.
Helen:They maybe they got lucky with the algorithm on one hit. Maybe they knew somebody, and so that led them down this path. There's things that are happening behind the scenes with manifesting that we are privy to necessarily. It just doesn't sell as well on a video. The video that's gonna hit is like the surfboard guy.
Helen:Oh my gosh. This was actually a crazy manifestation that I thought I won't say I didn't believe it at all because I believed it, but I was like, okay, even in this case, I'm gonna tell you the story, even in this case, he didn't manifest it just by sitting still. So here's the story. There was a surfer. He's out and he's surfing and he's having catching waves on his board and he thinks about, I really wish I had a better fin on this board, the fin on the bottom that sticks out and helps you steer the waves.
Helen:And he's like, I'd really like a blah blah blah fin. He he and a blue blah blah. He thought about the color, the brand, and the type of fin and the whatever. And he thought about it. He's like, really wish I could get one of those fins.
Helen:So now this is a story he told, I'm going on his word right now. What happens next? He starts to either overheat or something or needs a break from surfing. The waves didn't weren't weren't great. He got out.
Helen:He decided to go back in for a swim. He's swimming. He's swimming. He's going in up and under the water. And then he's as he goes under, something glistens under the water, and he decides to dive down and see what it is.
Helen:And supposedly, according to his story, he dives all the way down. He moves some rubble out of the way, and he had to really struggle to get this thing because it was, like, glistening, but he couldn't really see it. He's like, is it like a shell? Is it what what is it? Is it some kind of treasure or whatever?
Helen:He pulls up this exact fin that he was just thinking about. Literally. And he holds it up in the video. Now I'm not questioning, did that actually happen at all? Because I'm I took him on his word.
Helen:I'm like, that sounds like a very crazy cool story. And I believed it, and I do believe it still. But I also realized that he didn't just surf and think about the fin. He actually got out of the water, got back in the water, went for a swim, saw something, dove, did the work. He did the steps to get the fin.
Helen:So even though it was there, he had to swim a bit and get it. Even in his case of manifestation, it wasn't without movement. You get it? So I just thought that was cool. As I started to think about this whole thing, about how manifestation is so popular that you're going to sit and you're going say these words every morning, you're going wake up and you're going to say these words, the people are doing more than just saying the words.
Helen:They're doing things as well because the words should trigger you into movement, and the movement is what gets you closer to the thing. And then that's how the manifestation works. This is what I believe. You can take me on, you can call me out on this. You can I mean, we'd love to have a discussion about it?
Helen:Be happy to have a discussion about it. There's times where I've sat and thought, gosh, I would love to manifest a trip to LA. I haven't seen Julie in a while, and I want an excuse to get on a plane and go out there. Now, do I need an excuse to get on a plane and go out there? No.
Helen:But it would be really fun if a shoot or a production was like, oh, we're shooting in LA, and they got paid for my flight, they paid for my hotel, and I could fly out. So and it has happened. I have had that thought, and within a couple of weeks, a print a reduction will come. And I'm like, wow. I manifested it.
Helen:And I I believe that if I think about something enough, I believe it can happen, but I'm not sitting still. I'm on I'm out there. I'm putting myself online. I'm do making videos. That person who hired me for that job potentially saw a video I posted, and it brought me top of mind.
Helen:And then that was able to happen. That manifestation was able to connect. So if you are thinking about something you wanna manifest, I think what my message for today is, if you're sitting still and doing nothing but thinking about it, that's only what is it? A quarter of the battle? Maybe a third of the battle?
Helen:You've gotta be in motion in some way. And I don't care if it's in motion towards that exact thing. I don't I don't care. There has to be motion in some direction because you don't necessarily know what's gonna lead you towards that thing. So another wacky example, but but I'll go for it, is sometimes I'll think, oh, it'd be nice if I had another social media client.
Helen:Let's say I'm thinking about that. I'm like, oh, things are quiet. It'd be nice to have another one on one booked or another private consulting gig booked. So I might think about that on occasion. I'm like, oh, that'd be nice.
Helen:I wonder who I wonder what maybe I should post more on LinkedIn about it. Maybe I should this. Maybe I should that. But I continue to post. I'm always posting.
Helen:I'm always sharing. And then yesterday, get off the subway, someone recognized me and said, oh my god. I see your videos all the time on my For You page. I'm looking for somebody for consulting for my social media. And I'm like, now, I could say I manifested it, but I'm posting every day.
Helen:I'm sharing my expertise. I'm making content so that I do show up on this potential client's page. He wasn't even following me. He said that plainly. He's like, I'm not even following you, but I always see your videos.
Helen:And I was like, thanks, I think. But the point is that if you don't have emotion, you manifestation alone isn't going to just solve. So for any manifested story that you hear, this is what I kind of urge you to do. See if you can think of three concrete things that might have happened to lead up to that person's manifestation. And then on your own, flip it around and say, if you're gonna manifest something, what would be three things you could do to take steps towards it so that you're not sitting and just thinking thoughts and saying words.
Helen:You're making movement. So I love that manifestation and movement both start with an m because I'm a big alliteration nerd. I love that. I love when things are, you know, ma ma ma. Ma, ma, ma, ma, mothership.
Helen:A lot of m's. But I think that we can should always tie it together. Keep manifestation in your thoughts with the idea of motion and whatever that motion is that's gonna get you towards your ultimate target that you're going for. One more personal story, and I hope this person I'm gonna make sure she listens to this episode. But my friend Grace Mccarrick, who is also a corporate culture expert, and when I first started the idea of the business of teaching on social media, she I I had a a meeting with her, and she's very I love that she's woo woo, so she does a lot of like, she lights candles, and she gives you makes you think about your thoughts.
Helen:And that day, it was actually a very emotional day, Grace. I don't if you remember that, but I got I did get a little emotional. Because she was like, what do you what would you wish? Like, what's your perfect vision of if you could make something, with the people that you're teaching and what it would be? And I remember thinking, like, getting people together and making them feel a part of something and having them feel seen, like they're not alone in this.
Helen:And to me, at that that visual was a physical space. It wasn't virtual. It was because she said, oh, where do you picture it? And I said, somewhere in the city with a view of the water. I can remember having this conversation with her so clearly.
Helen:And I visualized, you know, an office space, and it was like city, and it was bringing people together and teaching them and having like a big it's crazy to think about it now, Grace, because now I'm doing the retreat, and it's like that thing happened even though that discussion was four years ago or so. Maybe three? Yeah. I think it was almost four years ago. And I haven't really thought about it much, but that thing that we talked about in that meeting, it kind of is the retreat that's happening, which is so weird that it's it's almost, like, emotional to think about.
Helen:I didn't even realize it as I'm until I'm recording this now, and I'm really seeing it so clearly. Because she was asking me a lot of questions, and they were very specific questions. And I was picturing and I was like, oh, I could see what I was seeing. And now I think what I'm doing with the retreat is what I was seeing back then. So even though that was such a pipe dream back then, it really was.
Helen:It was almost absurd, the things I was saying. And I look at it now, and all of the motion that happened from then to now answered that manifestation, answered that wish that I had. So manifestation without motion is gonna get you nowhere. Manifestation is your vision for your clarity of the situation, but motion is what's gonna get you results. That's what's gonna get you towards the thing that you seek.
Helen:Manifest, but keep moving. See you next week. Thanks for listening.
