Welcome! Page 179, chapter 17, verse 16. We are going to establish the authority of the high priest, that it’s from God, not man-made. God tells Moses to get twelve staffs, one from each tribe’s leader, engraved with their names. Aaron, from the tribe of Levi, is included. Even though Levi has subgroups, they are one tribe. This is a test. Place the staffs in the tabernacle, before the Ark of the Covenant. Whoever God chooses, their staff will blossom. This will silence the Israelites’ complaining. They brought their staffs, Moses placed them before God. The next day, Aaron’s staff blossomed, producing ripe almonds! This teaches us to be careful opposing the priesthood, as it’s divinely ordained. The retribution is swift. All the Israelites saw this and took their staffs home.
