Aftersight (00:00)
Thank you for joining us for Conexión Colorado. This is presented by Matos Law Firm and read by Jennifer here at Aftersight. You can also find more information on us at www.aftersight.org or call us at 303-786-7777 or also find out about Matos Law Firm at matoslawfirm.com. Let's get started today. Our subject is go all in on life, amiga.
You still can. Go all in on life because you still can. Life is too short to not be excited about where you are. Amigas, I have something to admit. I lost it on someone the other day, not in a mean way, in a very me way. Here's what happened. But before she goes into that story, there's a picture of a beautiful correction. There is a picture of
Feature below, it looks as if the photo is being taken from a balcony. You see the mountains and the way back with a sunset, beautiful yellow and orange colors, and in front of that is a large red tree. The trees are turning colors, so it is red. Below that it says, if you've ever talked to me, you know I ask everyone two questions. How's your day going? What are you looking forward to today?
I recently asked someone these two questions, they said nothing. Nada? Before I could stop myself, I said, Life is short. If you don't have anything to look forward to today, add something. A few minutes later I asked myself, did I overreact? It's none of my business how people live their lives. Who am I to tell anyone what to do? I know, I know, but hear me out. Life is short. If you live to 75, you get about 4,000 weeks.
That's it. Below in the newsletter there is a video, so if you have that email with you, you may play that video. Below it it says most people spend those weeks waiting, waiting for work to calm down, waiting for money to get better, waiting for life to change on its own. It won't, not unless you change it. This weekend is Dia this correction. This weekend is dia de muertos.
We set up our ofrendas, we light the candles, we put out the food our loved ones used to make. How you spend your time is how you spend your life. You don't know how much time you get, but you're spending it every day whether you plan it or not. The people on our ofrendas don't get any more time, but we still remember how they spent it. That's what I think about this time of the year. Not that their time ran out, how they used it. You can always make more money, but
You can't make more time. So here's my ask. Before Sunday, put one thing on your calendar that you're excited about. Keep it small. A walk with your mom, tacos with your best friend, one hour with no fun. Then the next time someone asks what you're looking forward to, you'll have an answer. Concarino Lissandra.
Three things we love this week. The Big A calendar. Most calendars show you one month at a time. This one puts your whole year on one wall. This one is a hyperlink that you can go to in the newsletter. 365 boxes for 365 days. When you can see the whole year, it's easier to plan the things that matter to you. Hang it where your family will see it every day. This week.
Fill in one box with something you're excited about. 4,000 Weeks by Oliver Berkman. An average life is about 4,000 weeks. That's where this book gets its get correction. That's where this book gets its name. Oliver Correction. Oliver Berkman says you will never get everything done and that's okay. His big idea: spend your time on what matters most and let the rest go.
It's a calm, honest read for anyone who feels like there's never correction. It's a calm, honest read for anyone who feels like there's never enough time. And here's your Spanglish affirmation of the week. Mi tiempo is mío, and I spend it on what I love. You can't make more time, but you can get to choose where it goes. This week, give one hour to something that makes you happy. No guilt, that hour counts.

Bring a photo of a loved one or even a pet to place on the community offrenda. It's free and open to all ages. Know of an event that Matos Law should feature? Just email them at MatoslawFirm.com and tell them what's going on in your neighborhood. La Vida Toolkit. Save your family's stories. This week many families will set up an ofrenda. Photos go up, candles get lit, and the stories come out.
But some stories never get told because nobody asked in time. The good news is your parents, abuelos, and tiaas still have their stories. All you need is your phone and one free evening. Here's how to start. Number one, open the voice memo app on your phone. Ask if it's okay to record them, then press the red button. Video is nice too, but most people relax more without a camera in their face. Number two, start with easy questions.
Where did you grow up? What did your mama cook? How did you and papa meet? What's the best advice anyone ever gave you? Then just listen. The best stories come out when you ask, and then what happened? Number three, pull out the old photo albums. Ask who is in each picture. Write the names and the year on the back or in a photo caption on your phone. One day you'll be so glad you did. Number four, let the kids ask the questions.
They learn where they come from and the grandparents love the attention. And number five, save every recording to a shared family folder like Google Drive or iCloud. That way one lost phone doesn't mean lost stories. If you've already lost someone you love, you can still do this. Ask the people who knew them. Their memories count too. Start this weekend, thirty minutes is enough. Someday these recordings will be one of the most special things.
