Charted

What is Charted?

Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.

No calamity can befall the least of His children, no anxiety harass
the soul, no joy cheer, no sincere prayer escape the lips, of which our
heavenly Father is unobservant or in which He takes no immediate
interest. – Steps to Christ, pg. 100
I watched my breath as it condensed in the gelid night air. My
numb, frostbitten hands strained to hold onto the slippery rocks in a
constant effort to avoid holding onto false handholds. My eyes tried to
make out shapes in a night that seemed to be painted in the blackest
ink. Stopping to catch my breath, I observed my surroundings. All I
could make out in the pitch black were treetops and vague shapes of
massive boulders. “Wait!” I beckoned my friend. “Are you sure this is
the right way?”
There I was, on an expedition to an awesome mountaintop.
A few friends and I had planned to hike Blowdown Mountain and
spend the weekend exploring the surroundings. My friend Hajoon and
I decided to go to a nearby stream and collect water for others in our
group. We started hiking in the already advanced twilight toward the
direction of the stream. Others who were returning from the stream
directed us, and without much difficulty, we reached a fountain that
ran beneath a steep boulder field. Carrying a few bottles filled with the
pure water, we started to make our way back to camp.
It was complete blackness. The phone we were using as a
flashlight was the only illumination. Suddenly, we came to a steep
ravine of which the bottom, enveloped in deep obscurity, could not
be reached. We didn’t come through here. My friend must have been
thinking the same, for he shone his flashlight around with a confused
expression on his face. Are we off the trail? As time went by, panic
slowly crept upon as as we came to the realization that we were lost.
Right there and then we turned to God and prayed for His
guidance to help us find our way. As soon as we were finished praying,
I immediately felt relieved because God was in control. He would
certainly know the best course of action and inspire us to take it.
