Practical lessons from my own journey of imperfection as a man, husband, father, corporate and business leader, emotional intelligence trainer, and leadership coach.
Do you ever ask yourself the question, "What am I doing here? Why am I getting up every day to do what I do?" I know that there's been times in my life when I've definitely done that. If you're not excited when you get out of bed, then you could check in with what we're gonna talk about today.
Because it can get to a point where you just exist. Same stuff, different day. The day turns into weeks, the weeks turn into months, the months turn into years, and then all of a sudden you look back and go, "What happened?" Now my aim is not to get into a doomy and gloomy feeling with you today. But this is something that I am experiencing a lot with people right now.
There's stuff going on all over the world, and it's impacting the standard of living for lots of people. Now, I'm not just talking about financially, and that's what we normally look at with standard of living. I'm talking about the environment that they live in, particularly between their ears, whether or not they feel happy with where they're at And the reason why we get there, and let me tell you, I've been there, and I've had to get some support to come out of there.
So if that's you as well, let me know. I can either help you myself or help you find the right person to do that. However, step number one is to get clear on your why. Get clear on your purpose. Understand where it is that you're going, what you stand for, who you're becoming, and when you need to do that.
When you've got that clarity and that all comes together, that's called intention. And then you're able to set some plans and some actions that are intentional. So instead of just doing stuff, there's a purpose behind everything that you do, every decision that you make, every bit of energy that you give to other things.
And then when that's aligned with who you are, what your calling is, what your purpose is, your vision, your mission in life, whatever of those things fits for you, then you get out of bed happy. Because you know that even though everything's not gonna go how you want it to go, right? We all know that, but today I'm gonna make another step closer to that, and my life has purpose, and I have purpose, and I have value, and I have meaning, and I'm becoming.
I haven't arrived yet, however, everything that I do today is going to move me that little bit closer. How would your life be different if that's the way that you thought? And by the way, if you're listening to this and you already are at that point, get involved in this conversation. I never want to be the person at the front that knows everything, 'cause I don't.
This is a journey of imperfection that I'm allowing you to come on with me. Right? I haven't got it all together. Far from it I have down days. I have days where I question myself, "Why are you doing this, Grant? Why do you travel the world helping other people when you've still got this area in your own life that you could do some more work on?"
And I've got to reconcile that and make sure that I'm aligned with the overall purpose of who am I, who am I becoming? Who do I need to be so that I can do those things that I need to do that have the results that I wanna have? Who do I need to be in terms of my top priorities? And that's my family.
And looking at anything that's out of alignment. It's just like a car. If you don't take it in and get the wheels aligned every now and then, when your intention is to go straight, if you let go of the steering wheel, it'll run off the road So I want to start a conversation with you this month, and I really want you to get involved.
Ask me questions, give me insights, get involved in the whole conversation. Let's help each other with, are you taking intentional action to fulfill your purpose, or are you just getting up and doing stuff? So the first thing that you need to be able to do so that you can say yes to that is you need to have clarity around what is my purpose?
Why am I here? Now, that's a pretty deep question, and you might be thinking, "Well, I don't know. I was just born. It was not my fault. I didn't ask to be born. Here I am, and I'm just doing my best." And that's great. However, deep down inside you, you have dreams, you have desires, you have things that you don't think you're good enough to deserve, things that you don't feel that you're good enough to achieve, but they're still in there, and we need to bring those out.
And you might be thinking, "Wow, I'm gonna turn this guy off, he's getting too passionate." You cannot understand how much this means to me to be able to work with people to bring that inspiration, to light a fire or reignite a fire within them rather than what they're used to, and that's people lighting fires under them.
I love this work, and you can see that this is my purpose because it lights me up, it excites me. I'm not going to bore you with the content, but I'm going through some stuff in my life right now- And I could just be down about that. But no, I can serve you. I can have intentional action that comes out of my purpose, and I forget about all that stuff until I need to deal with it.
I'm a real person, just like everybody else. In fact, I'm probably more real than you are. So anyway, I've rambled on because my passion took me off track. So the first thing, as I said, you need to understand is: what's my purpose? If you need some help with that, get in touch with me or someone else who can sit down with you and help you with that.
Then, once you understand that purpose, you need to also know: What do I stand for? What are my values? What do I truly value? Not what do I pretend I value because that's the rhetoric and that's what people expect of me and all those things that we do. Not your Instagram reel. No. What do you really value?
Do you value your family, your health? What is it for you? What are your highest values? What do you stand for, and what will you not stand for? If you weren't worried about what other people think, what would you stand up against? They're your values. Once you know the values, then you have to have a vision for how you're going to fulfill your purpose, making sure that you stay aligned with those values
And then you can work on your priorities. Your priorities are, where do I need to put my energy, my focus, so that I can, in the time that I've got on this earth, achieve, fulfill my full potential, my purpose? What do I need to shift and adjust so that I'm not working against my values and I'm working for them and with them?
So the message I wanted to get across to you today, and I hope that in all my ramblings I've helped you to get some sort of idea of what we're talking about here, is instead of existing, let's fulfill our purpose. Let's do things with intention. People spend more times, more time planning a two-week vacation than they do their life.
Yes, things change. We're not able to put things in concrete these days. However, I wanna help you, as others have helped me, to get a clear understanding of the journey that's ahead, where it is that you're heading, so that you can then learn, with my help, to do and change and shift what it is that you need to do so that you can become who you need to be at the helm of that journey, so that you can get where it is that you really know that you need to go.
Anyway, that's it for me for another month. I'll keep dropping in some posts and different things in the places that you and I connect together, and, get involved in the conversation. Wherever it is, connect with me on, LinkedIn, subscribe to that newsletter. You'll get this stuff all the time, coming into your inbox once a month.
Whatever, get involved in the conversation with me, and I look forward to working with you and catching up with you again real soon. I'll see you then.
