Facts
Lizzo feat SZA – Special
- Happy birthday to one who is most special, born on this date in Detroit in 1988.
- Great tune to kick off the show tonight, that’s the remake of the original featuring SZA on the raps this time.
- Lizzo since breaking out has been a transformative figure for body positivity and just generally helping all the people out there getting told they’re fat or ugly or whatever that they’re amazing. Big up to Lizzo, happy 35th today, may there be many more.
Charlie Bereal – Get Ready
- Colemine Records just announced that this incredible musician is signing with their Karma Chief sub label.
- Now, this might not be a big name, but we’re talking about a musician who’s worked with some of the biggest heads in the game. Credits include working with Jay-Z, Aaliyah, Snoop, Missy, Raphael Saadiq and that’s just to name a few.
- This tune is from Bereal’s sophomore 2019 LP 11 11 11 if you wanna dig deeper.
Man Made Mountain feat LUCFR – Feels Right*
- This duo honestly slipped under my radar, but this is from their 2020 LP Average Man, which would be their 2nd LP to date after debut in 2016.
- The duo hails from Melbourne, and say they draw inspirations from the sounds of Brasil to both uplift and challenge the boundaries of hip-hop.
Object Heavy – Take You Home (To Mother)
- We’ve rocked this one on the show, but this block demanded we continue to turn the psyche funk up to 11.
- This group hails from Northern California, and this is from their new album just out early in this year called Love & Gravity, produced by Kelly Finnigan who is also in Ohio over the next couple of weeks at Colemine HQ in Loveland, ready to get down on some new material.
Snoh Aalegra – DO 4 LOVE (Black Coffee remix)
- This was originally recorded as a Spotify single, which is a cover of the original by Bobby Caldwell titled What You Won’t Do For Love, released in 1978.
- Go check Aalegra’s other original work, a very talented and tasteful artist.
Pearl & The Oysters – Pacific Ave
- Finally, we have a tune from the newly released Coast 2 Coast LP from this duo of French expats. The record is out on PB Wolfe’s Stones Throw, quality stuff.
Part 2
The Jamaicans – Ba Ba Boom
Lord Echo – Whoa! There’s No Limit (alt vers)
Misha Panfilov – Skyglow
Durand Jones – Sadie
The Teskey Brothers – London Bridge
MEB – Mellow Kisses

Facts
The Jamaicans – Ba Ba Boom
- Had to get in some roots stuff given what came after from Lord Echo.
- This tune was released in 1967 via the Treasure Isle label, and this was actually the trio’s breakout tune, which won a contest and record deal that same year in 67.
Lord Echo – Whoa! There’s No Limit (alt vers)
- From the Japanese tour record which The Black Seeds-associated artist keeps dripping out.
- The original of this cut was released in 2017 on the artist’s 3rd album Harmonies.
Misha Panfilov – Skyglow
- One of the most original jazz & soul artists out there is out with this tune recently, which is part of a 7” single released last week Tuesday.
- For those not knowing, Panvilov is originally out of Estonia, now based in sunny Portugal. Brilliant musician, check his other work, amazing discography.
Durand Jones – Sadie
- The latest single from Durand Jones’s solo debut is out as of last week called Sadie.

The Teskey Brothers – London Bridge
- The band out of where else, Melbourne, are out with their 3rd studio album on June 16 and it’s called The Winding Way.
- If this tune is anything to go off, this is gonna be a pretty special record. Great band, I feel somewhat slept on.
MEB – Mellow Kisses
- Formerly known as the Miles Electric Band, MEB just dropped a new EP this past Friday called That You Dare Not To Forget.
- The band is made up of Miles Davis alumni and contemporary hip-hop/jazz disruptors inspired and influenced by Miles and his music.

Foo Fighters – Rescued
Foo Fighters have announced a new album called But Here We Are, set for release on June 2nd. It marks the band’s first collection of music since the tragic passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.
Described as “the first chapter of the band’s new life,” But Here We Are is “the sound of brothers finding refuge in the music that brought them together in the first place 28 years ago, a process that was as therapeutic as it was about a continuation of life,” notes a press release. The album was produced by Greg Kurstin and Foo Fighters.
This summer, Foo Fighters will perform at upcoming festivals like Bonnaroo, Fuji Rock, Louder Than Life, and Ohana, as well as play a string of headlining dates with support from The Breeders. The shows mark their first tour dates after hitting the stage last year for a pair of transatlantic tribute concerts in Hawkins’ honor.

Bully – Hard to Love
In June, Bully (Alicia Bognanno) will release a new album, Lucky For You. We’ve already heard Bognanno’s Soccer Mommy collab, “Lose You,” and “Days Move Slow.” Today, Bognanno is back with another album preview called “Hard To Love,” which comes with a self-directed video.
Here’s Bognanno on “Hard To Love”:
Growing up never fitting into society’s constructed gender stereotypes and expectations, I often felt as though different equals bad or wrong. I was confused about my place in the world, not fully identifying with any one particular gender or sexuality. I was ashamed, and I blamed myself. Though I’m still in the process of understanding and accepting my identity, I’m glad to be surrounded by people who love and accept me for who I am regardless of the clothes I wear and the labels others use to define me.

Bloc Party – High Life
Bloc Party return today with the single “High Life,” their first new music of the year.
“High Life” is a mid-tempo groove that recalls the dance-punk movements of 1970s London and New York. It’s fleshed out with a dynamic, percussive beat and layers of angular guitars, as vocalist Kele Okereke attempts to lure you into the world of hedonistic glamour: “Are you ready for the high life? For things to go our way?” he sings. “We’ll take a car to the West End, to catch a Broadway show/ Call ahead to book our table, we’ll find a place to go.”
Lyrically, “High Life” does at times feel a bit more shallow than some of Bloc Party’s better songs. But it certainly doesn’t take itself too seriously, fully leaning in to its playful funk aesthetic. While the band have yet to announce a new album, all signs are pointing towards more fun to come.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds – Council Skies
At the beginning of June, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds are releasing a new album called Council Skies, whose title was inspired by the artist Pete McKee’s book of the same name. “That’s when the whole concept of the thing started to take shape,” Gallagher said in a press release, per NME. “When I’m back in Manchester you see great swathes of your youth boarded up, gone… it’s a stark reminder that you should try to take it all in while it’s still there.”

We’ve heard a handful of tracks from Council Skies already — “Pretty Boy,” “Easy Now,” and “Dead To The World” — and today Gallagher has shared the album’s title track.

Spotlights – Sunset Burial
4th album Alchemy of the Dead is out this week. There're plenty of great reasons to pay attention to Spotlights. They're signed to Mike Patton's Ipecac Recordings label, and the Deftones and Melvins have handpicked them as tour mates in the past.
Folding together elements of post-metal, doom and hooky, spectral alt-metal not unlike Deftones, Spotlights build "Sunset Burial" up from a minimal breeze into a full-force gale of destructive heaviness. It kicks ass. Listen while you watch its ghastly music video above via YouTube.
"'Sunset Burial' is a self-reflective story about what goes through our minds while waiting to die," explains guitarist-vocalist Mario Quintero of the song and video, directed by John Pope. "What it's like to deal with feeling something as inevitable as death, and the last minute hope and fear that goes with it. All the while, feeling the calm and relief of passing on."
"Sunset Burial" is the latest single from Spotlights' upcoming album, Alchemy of the Dead, out April 28th via Ipecac Recordings

’68 – The Captains Sat
Noisy rock duo ’68 have found a new label home with Pure Noise Records. A music video for their new single “The Captains Sat” has just gone up online to accompany the news. Look for the band out on the road next month as part of the following trek with Sparta (performing “Wiretap Scars“) and Geoff Rickly (Thursday/No Devotion).

The Damned – You’re Gonna Realise
“You’re Gonna Realise” is the last single prior to the release of “DARKADELIC” on April 28th… the day the world will see the dark in a whole new light.
Its sound is trademark Damned… a little punk, a little goth, but this time with a lot of other goodies mixed in. The mood is darkly psychedelic with nods to their influences and history. Sonically and lyrically, though, it blasts away at any notion of nostalgia.
David Vanian’s lyrics vow “You’re Gonna Realise the past is just the past.” Captain Sensible brings infectious charm and modern guitar crunch. New drummer Will Taylor adds a new kinda kick. Paul Taylor on bass neat neat neatly propels things along. Monty Oxymoron wraps it all up with madman keyboard runs and flourishes.
“DARKADELIC” catches the band once again evolving and expanding upon their unique universe and features some of The Damned’s sharpest song writing and genre-bending performances. Alongside Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Paul Gray and Monty Oxymoron, William Granville-Taylor joins the band on drums.

The Used – Numb
The Used have released another new song ahead of the release of their new album Toxic Positivity on May 19. The song, Numb, finds singer Bert McCracken in melancholic, reflective mode, as it goes from melancholic verse to surging chorus.
“I just wanna feel something," explains Bert. "Anything is better than this. I just wanna feel something. No different from anyone else. Wanna waste my time but not like this at all. I just wanna feel something. No different from anyone else. Cause I feel numb. Does anybody else feel numb?”
The band recently released two singles, Fuck You and People Are Vomit, which won't be included on the record.

Des Rocs – Never Ending Moment
New York rocker Des Rocs has shared his thrilling new single “Never Ending Moment” to celebrate his signing to Sumerian Records. Stream it below.
Co-produced by Des Rocs with Alain Johannes (Queens of the Stone Age, PJ Harvey), “Never Ending Moment” is an arena-ready jam looking ahead to heartbreak while still in the midst of a relationship. “Forever together/ Through fire and rain, I’ll wait for you,” he sings. “I’ll never surrender/ When you ask me to.”
In a statement, Des Rocs explained the meaning of “Never Ending Moment,” saying it’s about “the nostalgia for losing something before it’s gone.” He continued, “I’ve always found a kinda darkness to the best moments in life. It’s born from that unnerving reality that all love will one day end. We have this instinct to eternalize the sweetest moments we experience — to me it’s one of the most humanizing experiences we share. I wanted to create a song that was larger than life itself… A never ending rapture.”
The track is Des Rocs’ first new music since last year’s “Manic Memories.” In 2021, he released his debut album, A Real Good Person in a Real Bad Place.

James and the Cold Gun – Something to Say
With two months to go until the release of their self-titled debut album, James And The Cold Gun have unleashed a new single.
The band’s latest effort goes by the name Something To Say, and lives up to frontman James Joseph’s promise that this record as a whole is a “no-frills rock’n’roll ripper”.
“We can’t wait to get this album out into the world,” he says, adding that the band recorded it “ourselves in the garage where we first started jamming as a band. We think it’s a great introduction to what we’re about at our core: loud, energetic guitar rock...”

Silver Moth – The Eternal
Back in January, Silver Moth — a project that involves Mogwai’s Stuart Braithwaite — announced their debut album, Black Bay (which came out last Friday), and shared its lead single “Mother Tongue.” Here’s another song from that album, “The Eternal,” a touhcing track that was written as a tribute to a close friend of Braithwaite’ and Silver Moth bandmate Elisabeth Elektra that passed away.
