Noon Hour Of Madness & Mayhem

The Noon Hour of Madness and Mayhem somehow managed to cover the complete collapse of modern comedy, whether Joe Rogan could physically defeat Marc Maron in a parking lot argument, and Peaches emotionally preparing himself to throw away a tiny fake fox planter like it’s the ending of Toy Story 3. Viktor and Peaches spiral through everything from radio promo disasters and aging DJs trying to make TikToks at age 75, to why people without TVs are apparently one bad day away from becoming serial killers. There’s also a genuinely hilarious deep dive into old-school radio production, fake contests, offensive promos buried in station archives that absolutely cannot see daylight, and the strange realization that vintage tube TVs now cost more than modern flatscreens. Peaches contemplates downsizing his apartment and becoming “Apartment Thanos,” Viktor tries to convince him not to throw every possession into the dumpster, and the two somehow end up discussing bathroom televisions, outdoor hot tub TVs, and seductive radio imaging voices that sound like they’re being lightly electrocuted while recording station liners. If you’ve ever wondered what happens when two radio guys are left unsupervised with microphones and way too much free association, this episode is basically that.

What is Noon Hour Of Madness & Mayhem?

The Noon Hour Of Madness & Mayhem can be heard live on KBEAR 101 weekdays at 12pm MST. Viktor and Peaches talk about a wide variety of topics depending on the day and you never know what to expect!

[upbeat music] The noon hour of Madness and Mayhem, the podcast

It's the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem. How's Peaches today?

I'm reading a post here about how, um, this guy's really upset that these roasts have sucked for at least a decade.

Like the, uh, comedy roasts?

Yeah ... No, like pot roast. What do you think, Victor?

Yeah, I know.

[laughs]

Every time I go out to this one restaurant, the roast is terrible. Um, I haven't watched a lot of the recent roasts. Um, I heard that, uh, you know the one that just happened?

With Kevin Hart?

Kevin Hart.

Yeah.

Heard it had some funny stuff.

Sure.

You know, I'm- saw that some people were getting butt-hurt about some of the jokes. Um-

Listen, if you signed up for it, I mean ...

It's a roast

... It also, comedy has

... D- Does comedy really have no limits? But I also think there, there should be some things that should not be joked about. I'm not gonna name them here because it's very morbid stuff.

Yeah

... But I also think, like, you know, if, if, if you're signing ... Not ... Well, the, the people that were joked about didn't sign up for the roast 'cause they're dead. Uh-

Yeah

... but also, like, they're public figures in a way.

Uh, yeah. True. True. And I don't know, a skilled comedian, I think can, uh,

make most jokes or, you know, deal with most subjects and, uh, not do it in a, an offensive way, I guess. But

I don't know. It, there's always gonna be somebody who gets offended.

Well, there was a thing with Anthony Jeselnik. He's turned into this, like-

[clears throat]

... massive hippie. His hair is real long. He's all like-

Yeah

... uh, philosophical now when it comes to-

Yeah

... his things. But, uh, he was talking about how, like, comedy is how you, like, push your art without,

like, explicitly saying what it is or something like that.

Yeah. I've seen a few good, uh, interviews with him lately. They pop up in shorts and things like that. But, uh, well, there's ... The ... Comedy's kind of split right now. You know? There's, there's like two different sides. There's like the Joe Rogan side and then the, the other side.

Like Marc Maron and-

Yeah

... yeah.

And they're all kind of battling ... Well, I wouldn't say battling, but, uh-

They're all pretty successful

... it, it's kind of like New York and LA versus Austin, Texas. You know? And

I don't know. Like,

I mean, I'm, I've been a big fan of Marc Maron for a long time. Think it sucks that his podcast is done. But I did think it was kind of funny that, uh, Joe Rogan waited to attack him 'til his podcast was done. [laughs] You know, when he's not putting out a new episode every week. But I, I like watching the, uh, the comedy smack talk. I like watching them go back and forth, YouTube videos, you know, breaking it all down, the state of comedy.

But I think that's just the nature of everything right now.

I think if it was a, uh-

Everything's divided

... a verbal fight between Joe Rogan and Marc Maron ... Now, I don't really care for Marc Maron, and I don't really care for Joe Rogan all that much either because his podcast is literally just two stoners having a conversation. But I, I would say if it was a verbal beat down or a verbal face-off, Marc Maron would win. But if all of a sudden-

Well-

... it turned physical, Joe Rogan's gonna kick his butt. [laughs]

Yeah, yeah. 'Cause I think Marc Maron's a little more ... I, I think he's smarter than Joe.

He's also been around for 10, 15 more years than-

Yeah

... than Joe.

But-

I think

... you know, it would, it would be great to see them just, just sit down and hash it out.

It would be great if they could get him on the podcast-

Yeah

... but I don't think Marc would do it. I think Marc's just kind of done.

Probably not. Yeah. Same, same with, like, uh, Anthony Jeselnik. I, I doubt he'd go on there again. But that's what, that's what Rogan needs is more comics on that aren't just the same ones over and over.

Well, that's what's funny is because I was listening to a lot of the, the recent episodes, 'cause I've been doing walks around the greenbelt, and, um, I, I was listening to these different types of guests, like a former, uh, uh, SWAT member or stuff like that.

Yeah.

And m- people in the comments were like, "Please have more episodes like this. Stop with the comedians."

Ah. Well, uh, 'cause it's always the same comics. It's always the same guys in. It's homies. Um, and that, that is one of the things I miss about the old show is he'd bring on all kinds of weird people, you know? And I think the fact that he's stuck in Texas, it probably makes it harder to get guests, you know? When you're in LA, you can bring in people all day

'cause that's where all the celebrities live.

But I also feel like ... I mean, no, because L- most people have, most celebrities have left LA.

You think so?

Oh, yeah.

Where'd they go? New York?

Uh, heck if I know.

[laughs]

I'm not, I'm not a celebrity. I can't call them up.

Yeah. Call 'em up, Peaches.

Yeah. [laughs] Just because I lived out there, doesn't mean I know them.

Tom Cruise, where are you at?

Oh, please.

[laughs]

That'd be the last guy I'd be a friend with.

[laughs]

Starts recruiting me for his church.

He w- he would.

[laughs]

He would.

I'd run away.

[laughs] [upbeat music] It's the noon hour of Madness and Mayhem. I'm Victor.

I'm Peaches. Do you have something here?

Yeah. W- well, there's a lot going on this week, Peaches. You know, it, it seems like more and more stuff coming up for us to talk about day by day. You know, uh, of course, elections are going on today. Get out and vote, fools. Get out and vote. Uh, we've also got, uh, your live broadcast Friday, 3:00 to 6:00 PM, Al's Sporting Goods, signing people up to win Papa Roach tickets and telling them a- about all the great Memorial Day sales. Um, Sludge Metal Fest is happening on Saturday at the gym.

I might be going to that, too.

I, I'm hop- I'm hoping to go to that as well.

Yeah. I re- like, the Memorial Day weekend for me is, is not gonna be a fun one. I can, I can tell you that, 'cause I used to look forward to the weekends. Now I'm just kind of like, "Ugh." I'm back to, like, dreading the weekends because it-

That sucks, Peaches

... there's nothing for me to do.

You need to game. Sit down and game or read a good book.

[sighs]

Just sit down and relax. Enjoy the peace and serenity. Read a good book or go to Sludge Metal Fest, and we are giving away tickets to that all week as wellAnd it seemed like there was something else we were supposed to talk about too

Um, there's something tomorrow I think we have to talk about-

Oh, yeah

... that Jade sent an email about.

That's right. Yeah, that's right. That's tomorrow. But yeah, day by day, just more and more stuff going on. So-

And I, I've been all over the place just tossing stuff. Victor's like, "You're spiraling, Peaches."

[laughs]

And I'm like, "No, 'cause I'm planning for the future. I'm thinking ahead of the game."

[laughs]

As the brand ambassador of these channels-

[laughs]

... I gotta think months ahead of time.

That's right.

And I gotta think, if I'm gonna move somewhere, like even if it's in like d- within like a mile away from my place, I- I'm gonna probably downsize to a one-bedroom, one-bathroom-

Mm

... 'cause I don't need a second bedroom because it's just too much money.

Yeah.

You know, I'm lucky right now, knocking on wood, to be paying what I'm paying for a two-bedroom, one-bathroom, even though the building's complete and utter garbage.

Yeah.

But at the same time, like if I go to one of those copy-paste apartments, I'll probably have to get one of those roommates for sure.

Probably.

And I won't do that in a one-bedroom though, 'cause, huh.

What, you're not gonna share your bedroom with some dude, Peaches?

Come here, Bryson. [laughs]

[laughs] Come on, buddy.

I know your girlfriend's living with you, but-

[laughs] That's different

... why don't you dump her and come live with me-

No. [laughs]

... the Peach moon cave. [laughs]

[laughs] It's the noon hour of madness and mayhem. I'm Victor.

I'm Peaches, and I have this [laughs] little fox that has like a dumb fake plant in the back of it.

Okay.

Right? My parents gave it to me for Christmas a few years back.

Mm-hmm.

I kinda wanna get rid of it, but at the same time, it's so cute that I might cry-

[laughs]

... if I put it in the dumpster and say like ... You know, it's ... E- every single time I throw something away, I envision it like the Toy Story 3 ending.

Why don't you take it to the thrift store?

It's like, "So long, partner."

Why are you throwing it in the dumpster? Take it to the thrift store.

Long spike it right into the bottom of the dumpster-

[laughs]

... just watch it shatter.

Goodbye to the old me.

Yeah, Peaches is, uh, you know, literally cleaning house, getting rid of, uh, I guess all his possessions.

I'm turning into a, a Thanos. As, as, as I keep telling people, I'm just snapping.

[laughs] He's going full minimalist style. Pretty soon he'll be one of those dudes that doesn't even have a TV in the house.

[laughs]

You know?

By the way, if you ever-

I only listen to vinyl records. It's all I do to entertain myself.

[laughs] I got a phonograph in the corner. [laughs]

That's right.

That's all I need. But if you ever meet someone who doesn't have a TV, you better run.

Yeah. I, I think that's a, it's a red flag-

I dated a girl once that-

... if somebody doesn't have a TV

... no TV at all. Craziest psycho-

[laughs]

... I have ever dealt with.

Uh, my friend Nick doesn't have a TV. Psycho. [laughs] He's a nut. Now, he does have a computer, and I think he watches stuff on that.

But see, that's a screen. This, this girl had-

That's a screen

... nothing.

Nothing, not even a computer.

No.

I ... Yeah. Like, you've, you've seen my house. I got a ... I got TVs everywhere.

Right. Yeah.

You know. TVs are cheap nowadays. You can, you can put a TV in every room for-

Would you, would you put one in the bathroom? Realistically, would you ... If you could-

If I could, if there was a spot for it.

If you had a t ... a, a bathroom big enough-

Yeah, I would

... to put ... You'd be the guy in the bathtub just-

Dude, for sure

... yeah, yeah, Grey's Anatomy or something like that. [laughs]

Yeah. I would absolutely put one in the bathroom. I've thought about it, but there's just nowhere to put it. [laughs]

What about outside by your hot tub?

I've thought about that too, but, uh,

I guess you, you can get, uh, ones that you just like kinda take in and out of the house, right? The, the-

Well, there are, there are outdoor TVs that are s- me- like set for, uh, weather-

Yeah

... that are protected a little bit more, but I don't know how much those run.

Yeah.

I've just seen the, uh, celebrities show off their homes.

Mm-hmm.

Like Scottie Pippen, he's like, "Here's my outdoor TV-

Yeah

... in front of my giant pool."

Yeah, I'd put one in my kitchen. [laughs]

[laughs]

I'd put one in my dining room.

Just get one of those like classic like, uh, '90s ones or however-

Oh, yeah

... old they are but-

Yeah

... the like little, the little tiny one.

That's what my grandma had in her, uh, her kitchen, little tiny TV.

Didn't they have one of those in, in Home Alone?

You know what? Let's go to the Facebook Marketplace and see if there's any old TVs, 'cause you b- you can't really find old TVs at, uh, like thrift stores. They don't accept them. It's gotta be a flat screen.

There are people who-

But old TV

... are trying to go back to that analog technology-

Mm-hmm

... like we've talked about before, and there was this one lady who was really, really proud of her, uh, radio that slid underneath the kitchen cabinet.

Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, I've seen those. Radios, uh, they're ... Th- that radio subreddit, I've seen a lot of growth in that and people asking about radios. You know, "What, what's a good quality radio for me to get?" And that's cool.

It, it's really weird how people can listen to radio and then stop listening, but then we get new people to come in and then repeat the same cycle.

Mm. Yeah.

We get people who stay here for their lifetime. We get people who just come and go. It's really odd.

Yeah, there are some old TVs on, uh, Facebook Market, and it's funny, they cost a lot more than the flat screens that are on there as well. Like, there's a flat screen TV, 32 inch, 10 bucks, but then if you wanna get yourself a, uh, you know, vintage 27-inch gaming TV, Magnavox, looks like the one I used to have. Oh, and it's got a built-in VCR, 100 bucks. Oh, there's an old black and white nine-inch TV, Peaches.

That's the one I was talking about. You gotta get that-

Yeah

... for your kitchen.

$100, and it's black and white. Oh. Oh, here's a- another ... They got some pretty weird little TVs.

I, I, I don't need to be buying more TVs. [laughs]

Pretty soon I'll be giving you mine. [laughs]

[laughs] You know, t- Peach, I gotta get rid of my TV. I gotta get rid of all my stuff. I'm getting rid of all my dishes and my clothes.

I'll have my [laughs] I'll have my underwear on the floor.

[laughs]

That's where it belongs.

[laughs] It's the noon hour of madness and mayhem. I'm Victor.

I'm Peaches.

And Peaches and I, we've thrown together a lot of radio promos over the years.

You a lot more than me.

Probably, just 'cause I've been at it longer. And there's an article from a website called barrettmedia.com, it's a radio website,

uh, talking about the lost art of the radio promo. I gotta find it on their website 'cause they didn't link it in the comments.

Oh, that's lame.

Yeah.

You think for, uh, so-called experts-They would s- they would-

[laughs]

... you know, maybe just know what they're doing.

You would think, but we are talking about radio people. So-

[laughs]

Let's see. There it is.

I just thought about that one station. I always show you their videos, and it's-

Dude, those guys-

This-

They are so ridiculous

... they're so ancient, and they're so out of touch.

Yeah, and they're trying to do TikToks, and I mean, these guys are old. They gotta be 60s, 70s.

Uh, no, seventies.

Seventies, probably.

I'm guessing 75.

[laughs] 75?

One guy's neck droops so low.

[laughs]

I, I swear he's part turkey.

Oh, geez. So let's see here. Okay, they're blaming it on attention spans shrinking, blah, blah, blah, 'cause... And I've, I've made some ridiculous promos before that were long, like a minute and a half, and you throw in all kinds of crazy stuff, and I think that makes those fun. You know, if they're just short and brief, "Hey, listen to win," blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,

th- th- they're just kinda boring. You wanna get people's attention.

That's why we had Maddie do her, "What's happening, toots?" voice for, uh, Papa Roach.

Yeah! And, and, like, in the past we've had, uh, a character named Douglas Baldwin-

Yes. Yeah

... you know, voice some of our promos for-

Rad Chad.

Rad Chad.

We had Josh go, "Yo, what's popping, squad?" [laughs]

Yeah. Um-

Ticketpalooza Jamboozle. I remember that one.

Ticketpalooza Jamboozle.

That was a good one.

Yeah, I, I think it's just, you know, that a lot of radio people don't have any time, you know? We're, we're all doing so many jobs now that to sit down and work on a production piece for, like, an hour or two, uh, that's, that's a lot of time out of the day.

We do have two separate contests getting announced on Friday that both involve pretty fun games.

Yes. They're gonna be cool. They're gonna be fun. Um,

and i- I mean, I think radio management just doesn't know how to have fun either.

Well, they're all old, too.

Yeah. Like this guy, Rick, he was talking about one of his old promos they did, and it, they, they didn't have any prizes to give away, and then competition was giving away a bunch of money. So they copied their promos almost word for word, but they talked about how they were not giving away money. They're like, "All right, we are not giving away 1,000 bucks on Thursday. We're not giving away 5,000 bucks next Thurs-" And they just kept going each week till they got up to, "So we're not giving away $100,000," and I guess it got to the point people, uh, started calling to ask when the next time they wouldn't be giving away money would be. [laughs] You know? So they're getting the listeners involved. I, I could imagine most radio management would be like, "No. You can't do that. That's silly. It doesn't make any sense."

Well, I know you guys ran a promo-

[clears throat]

... where, uh, Brad Royal died, or, like, it sounded-

Well-

... like he died

... it sounded like he did.

But he really was just becoming the st- the, the company engineer.

Yeah, he was just changing positions. Uh, th- uh, Brad has... We will be missed, [laughs] and it was all sad. Uh, l- yeah, that's another one that I doubt a lot of places you'd be able to do that, 'cause people did think Brad died.

I've pulled up, uh, his previous sessions, 'cause his public folder's still there.

Yeah.

And I love hearing his, uh, concert promos. I go to them for inspiration to keep mine wacky.

Yeah.

Even though I'm not nearly as talented as he is, but there's just, like, that sense of like, "Okay, if he can do this and does this with these filters, I can do the same thing."

Yeah. Yeah. No, he d- he did a great job with, uh, with promos. We had a lot of fun. We used to make promos just for fun that were really offensive, and we [laughs] like wouldn't air 'em. [laughs]

[laughs] Did you have, like, the voice guy Brian doing them? Did you waste pages on that?

No, no.

[laughs]

We, we did 'em ourselves, but-

[laughs]

... they were, they were pretty bad. I'll have to tell you about some of them, uh, off-air.

Uh, I think we deleted 'em. I think we got 'em out of the system.

Oh, yeah, I was gonna say p- we might need to-

Yeah

... that might need to be, uh-

I think we did

... archived.

Yeah, I think they're, they're... I mean, we never put 'em in next gen, but I think even in the, uh, the NAS-

No, yeah, yeah. That's what I was meaning, like-

They're, they're, they're gone, 'cause [laughs] we're like, "We can't ever have anybody find this."

Well, there were, there were two bands that just an- recently announced a tour, and I so badly, so badly wanted to do some over-the-top contest.

Mm-hmm.

But I know for a fact some mom was gonna get very upset about it.

[laughs] Oh, yeah?

It involves, uh, two of the most extreme metal bands there, there are.

Okay.

One, uh, Sanguisuga Bog, and

I, I don't even wanna say their name-

Okay

... 'cause it would give a hint into the contest I was thinking about.

[laughs] Well, you'll have to tell me about it off-air. Sorry, listeners. We're vaguebooking on the air.

Some of them would understand what I'm talking about if they're into that-

Yeah

... type of music.

Yeah. [laughs] Well, again, uh, it's good these articles are making the rounds. Maybe it will encourage people to put a little more effort in, 'cause most national ones are awful. It's just text to win, text in.

Well, do you, do you get people sending you their, uh, their, their demo for imaging?

Yeah.

Uh, I just got one lis- recently from a lady d- by the name of Lisa, Lisa Kays or something like that.

Every once in a while I'll get one.

[laughs] She sent it over, and it was just g-... I, I love how for rock radio it's always, like, the dude that sounds grizzled like this, and then it's always, like, like, the sexy girl like-

Yeah

... "You wanna listen to rock with me?" Like- [laughs]

Yeah.

Why, why is it never just some normal dude?

[laughs] No.

It's like, "If you like this music, you're hot," and it's always like, "If you like this music, you're a fat loser."

[laughs]

Kbear101. [laughs]

Maybe you should [laughs] work on, uh, your imaging reel, Pete. Just you could be a voice guy. [laughs]

What's that one? The, like, the, the, the X has that one weird guy. It sounds like he's, like, slightly, like, like, uh, he's... It sounds like he's getting tickled for fu- not, like, tickled, but it sounds like he's getting pinched.

Huh.

It sounds like he's in, like, slight pain, but he likes it.

Hmm.

He's like, uh, "The morning after." [laughs] Like, he's just like-

[laughs]

He's like all, like, devious.

[laughs]

"Oh, yeah." [laughs]

Maybe we need that voice guy. [laughs]

The X marks the spot. [laughs]
