Avanti West Coast has introduced a new fleet of trains as part of its summer timetable change.
Hitachi has supplied the new fleet of 23 trains, named Evero, which consists of 10 seven-carriage electric trains and 13 five-carriage bi-modes.
The fleet will initially operate on routes from London to the Midlands, Chester, North Wales and the North West.
The electric trains will primarily operate on the routes between London, the West Midlands and Liverpool. Meanwhile, the bi-mode trains, which switch between electric and diesel power, will operate largely on the London to North Wales route.

The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has published the statistics for freight rail usage and performance in the UK from April 2023 to March 2024.
The total freight moved by rail over the year was 15.76 billion net tonne kilometres, very similar to the previous year. However, this figure does continue to reflect a general decline in movement of freight by rail over the last ten years.
In total, over 194,000 freight trains ran on the UK rail network between April 2023 and March 2024, covering over 700 million kilometres.

A new rail operator has launched in France, becoming the country’s first independent high-speed train operating company.
Proxima will receive an initial investment of around €1 billion, which will fund rolling stock, operational launch costs and working capital requirements.
It has ordered 12 Avelia Horizon high-speed trains from Alstom, which will connect Paris to several other major French cities, providing more than 10 million seats a year. The fleet is expected to begin dynamic testing in early 2027.
