Good morning and
welcome to Morning Cereal.
Okay, good morning and welcome to
Thursday and welcome to Cairns, France.
You can see it if you're
watching this on YouTube right now.
That's Cairns right behind me where the
sunset shimmer like film
reels and every cobblestone
feels like it's red carpet ready.
Now shooting from this glamorous slice of
the French Riviera means we're surrounded
by palm-lined boulevards, luxurious
yachts, and the ghost of
every celebrity who's ever
climbed the steps of
the Pause de Festivales.
But beyond the glitz, Cairns is a seaside
town with a soul in its bustling markets,
its buttery croissants, and its sea
breezes that might just
whisper relaxing tones to
your heart.
Not a bad spot to
call on location, right?
Alright, well let's glide from those
Cairns vibes into a
little dose of perspective with
our quote of the day from someone who
brings sunshine everywhere
she goes, Kristin Chinoweth,
who once said, "If someone doesn't like
her hair, ignore them.
If someone doesn't like
your smile, ignore them.
If someone doesn't like your personality,
well, they can walk the other way."
And I love that one.
It's a perfect reminder that your value
isn't determined by
someone else's preferences.
As someone else once said, they can go
and love themselves.
Well, today's news facts and
birthdays are for July 24th.
And we're going to start back in 1911.
That's when here in Bingham, he
rediscovered the ancient Incan city of
Magu Picchu in Peru,
bringing global attention to one of the
world's most
breathtaking archaeological sites.
Then in 1969, the Apollo 11 astronauts,
well, they safely
splashed down the Pacific Ocean
after their historic moon landing.
Then in 2005, Lance Armstrong, well, he
won his seventh
consecutive tour to France.
And we all know how that one turned out.
Then finally in 2019, on this date, Boris
Johnson, he officially
became the prime minister
of the United Kingdom.
Well, happy birthday to you.
Today's your birthday.
You share a birthday with singer and
actress Jennifer Lopez.
She's 55 today.
Conservatist and TV
personality, Bindi Erwin.
She's 26 today.
Tony-winning actress and
singer, Kristin Chinoweth.
He's 56 today.
Barry Bonds, baseballer.
He's 61 today.
Karl Malone, former jazz man.
He's 62.
And finally, the late Emilia Earhart was
born on this date in 1897.
Well, the number one song on this date
back in 1999 was Wild Wild
West by Will Smith featuring
Drew Hill and Cool Mo D.
Now this was a hip hop slash a cowboy
fusion born from the
movie of the same name.
And the song sampled
Stevie Wonder's I Wish.
And it gave some a radio
and unrelenting earworm.
Wow, the film may have been well, I don't
know, I never saw it, but this all became
a nostalgic gem of the late 90s.
So now let's pivot from Wild West antics
to wise life strategies
with today's book segment.
And we're continuing our journey through
Steven R. Kobe's The
Seven Habits of Highly
Effective People.
And today we cover a deceptively simple
yet powerful section
of habit three, right?
P problems are PC problems.
And as you recall in Kobe's world, P
stands for production and
PC stands for production
capability.
And it's all about balancing those
results with the ability
to continue getting those
results over time.
And Kobe explains it with the classic
tale of the goose and
the golden egg, right?
Remember that one?
If you're only focused on the golden egg,
the results, and you neglected the goose,
your capabilities, then you eventually
will lose both, right?
So remember, Kobe writes, quote, if you
adopt a pattern of life
that focuses on golden
eggs and neglect the goose, you will soon
be without the goose
and the eggs, end quote.
Now this metaphor applies everywhere.
If you burn yourself out at work, your
performance tanks, if you ignore
relationships like we've
been talking about lately and chasing
success, the
connections will start to fade.
And Kobe argues for
effectiveness over efficiency.
That real progress comes when we care for
the system, not just the outcome.
And Kobe emphasizes the need for self
renewal and balance in
areas like physical health,
emotional wellbeing,
relationships, and mental growth.
It's the long game that matters.
And Kobe challenges us to ask, quote, are
we neglecting our PC
while obsessing over our
P?
End quote.
So here's your takeaway.
It's not just about working harder.
It's about working sustainably.
Invest in the people and the habits and
the systems that support your success.
After that, not just the success itself.
So a little bit of a
reminder of course today from Kobe.
So today, whether you're walking the red
carpet that's just over
those hills or you're vacuuming
it, take a second to
check in with your goose.
Balance, consistency, and a little
kindness, they go a long way.
