FIGHTING AMALEK

The Holy One, blessed be He, swears that His Name will not be complete nor His throne be perfect until the name of Amalek is entirely blotted out! (Rashi, Shmos 17:16)

The Shabbos before Purim, we read parshas Zachor about Haman’s ancestors, the nation of Amalek. Amalek represents the essence of evil, the very antithesis of G-dliness and Moshiach. Today, the nation of Amalek is lost, but the spiritual qualities it embodied remain, sadly, within each of us. Only Moshiach will completely eradicate the spirit of Amalek. However, all of us must prepare for Moshiach by battling the evil within and around us.
