And here’s today’s news from National Health Executive on Monday the 13th of May 2024.
NHS England has issued new guidance to dental practices encouraging them to take advantage of the ‘golden hello’ scheme which will see approximately 240 dentists offered up to £20,000 to work in under-served areas for three years. The programme will see dentists paid their incentive fees across three years, with 50% in the first year, and 25% in the second and final year.
The recruitment initiative is part of the dental recovery plan which was jointly published by the NHS and government in February. The government is aiming to deliver an extra 1.5 million dental treatments in the plan’s first year.

Patients with a rare heart condition are set to benefit from a landmark approval for a new drug that can significantly reduce risk of both hospitalisation and death. Following final draft guidance from NICE, tafamidis (ta-fa-my-dis) will be made immediately available to patients through NHS England’s Innovative Medicines Fund.
In clinical trials, the treatment – which is made by Pfizer – reduced the risk of death in patients by 41% compared to a placebo, with fewer hospitalisations too. The Scottish Medicines Consortium accepted the same treatment for use within NHS Scotland last November.

Thousands of people with sight loss in England will find it easier to participate in life-saving bowel cancer screening thanks to a new specially designed NHS tool. People who are blind or partially sighted will be offered an innovation to support them complete faecal immunochemical test kits, which can detect signs of bowel cancer.
During the innovation’s development, NHS England worked closely with the Royal National Institute of Blind People and the Thomas Pocklington Trust. The tool will be subject to a six-month pilot, with 500 people with sight loss participating – if successful, the tool could be rolled out to thousands more people to improve the accessibility and uptake of bowel cancer screening.
