Thousands of doctors and nurses are calling on the government to implement a full immunisation programme for the RSV vaccine this winter. Evidence has shown that rolling out the RSV vaccine to infants could save tens of thousands of GP appointments, A&E visits, and hospitalisations.
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health’s president, Dr Camilla Kingdon said the launch would be a game changer for both the NHS and general public. She said: “Together with 2000 of my colleagues, I urge them to seize this opportunity and not wait until after the upcoming election.”
A new clinical trial is set to be launched to test the efficacy of an mRNA vaccine for mpox. The trial is being delivered by the NIHR Clinical Research Network and researchers are hoping to see the same support as Covid-19 studies received.
The trial on mpox, which was previously known as monkeypox, is being sponsored by Moderna as part of the organisation’s 10-year partnership with the UK Government.
The Department of Health and Social Care is launching a new campaign to strengthen the bond between parents and their babies, to improve future mental health. A survey revealed that many parents don’t realise that a child’s mental health impacts their development before they turn two years old.
The government is also launching new guidance for frontline clinicians advising them how to start conversations with parents about building their relationship with their baby.
