Welcome to Bessie B. Knowing!
This podcast is where I keep it real, raw, and unapologetically honest. It's all about being authentic, talking about the stuff people usually avoid or gatekeep, and most importantly I keep things relatable to real life. I’ll be sharing my personal journey—lessons learned, experiences lived, and gems I’ve picked up along the way.
If you're tired of the fluff and just want real talk that hits, you’re gonna love it here.
Is this thing on? This thing's on. It's on. Y'all, this thing is on. I'm on.
Bessie B.:I am so excited because I have been wanting to do this podcast since I'd say 2019, '20 '19. I've been wanting to do this podcast and here we are. Here we are. So I know, I know there's a lot of people out here starting podcasts. I know you have a bunch of questions.
Bessie B.:Bessie, what is this podcast about? Why are you starting a podcast? How is your podcast going to be set up? Are you bringing guest speakers on? All these questions, right, that everybody has about podcasts.
Bessie B.:Okay, so let's get into it. As you can see, the name of the podcast first and foremost is Bessie B. Knowing. Now, if you know me, you know that my last name starts with a B. So it was a play off of my name, Bessie B.
Bessie B.:And then knowing. The Bessie B. Knowing part comes from, let me just tell you, I'm full of knowledge. I am full of knowledge. I always have some person asking me something and somehow I'd be knowing the answer y'all.
Bessie B.:Don't ask me why I'd be knowing the answer. Don't ask me where the answers be coming from, but I'd knowing the answer. My thing about this podcast is I may know a lot, but I don't know everything. Okay. I've always been raised.
Bessie B.:You don't know everything. You need to be receptive to learning. People are always going to teach you. So with that being said, I was like, okay, Bessie be knowing. Because people be like, yo B, yo Bessie, you be knowing.
Bessie B.:And I was like, okay, this is going to be perfect. That's where the play came off of instead of B like B E, it's just Bessie B. Knowing. That's where the name came from. Y'all, the the focus of the podcast.
Bessie B.:The focus of the podcast is going to be It's structured to get to know me, but it's also structured to obviously inform. Whatever I be knowing, I want to share with the world. First and foremost, I am an open book. If you don't know me, I am an open book. I really don't believe in the fact that there's TMI and all that stuff.
Bessie B.:Yes, there's the right place and the right time, so I'm not saying that I'm one of those people that just spill out everything anywhere we are because like, you know, right place, right time, But I can say, I don't believe in life that there's something someone's facing that another person hasn't faced. A lot of times people are afraid to speak their truth. A lot of times people feel like they're going to be judged, they're going to be misunderstood, and they also don't know how to receive just like that energy, that overall energy that society has when it comes to putting out your quote unquote business. And for me, y'all frankly, I can care less. I am going to express myself.
Bessie B.:I am going to be true to who I am, and I always remember, even if there's billions of people in the world and you may feel like you're not connecting with every person out there, there's at least one person that can connect with you, there's at least one person out there that heard you. That's what's important to me with this podcast. The structure of the podcast will be more of a solo tip. It will be me chatting it up with y'all and let me just tell y'all, I'm quite the entertainer, I am, I'm very entertaining, just naturally. I feel like some of us just, it's built in us to be that person.
Bessie B.:Obviously there'll be some serious tips, but just who I am, I naturally entertain. So it'll be more of that. Down the line, I'll consider if I want to bring on someone and guest speak and interview and ask questions. But for now, y'all are getting all of Bessie B. That's going to be the structure of it.
Bessie B.:Some of the topics that we'll be discussing, just to give you a little touch and a little taste, I won't give too much because I already got a little line up, but some of the things that we'll be discussing will be experience. I want to talk about experience, especially for me in the last year and a half. It has been complicated, I'm not going to lie to you. It has definitely been complicated. The economy, as you all see in the nation, is rough and tough and it ain't playing fair.
Bessie B.:I unfortunately am one of those people that was affected by job search and trying to find a job and all that in this economy. So you'll get a little bit of that. In the midst of that, right, what I was doing to make money, you're going to get a little bit of that and the T on really what happens with doing stuff like rideshare or whatever the case may be. You're also going to get a little bit of like upbringings, lifestyle, like I said, and just what you foresee in the future for you. I say that because again, I know what I foresee for myself may be very well aligned with somebody else that foresee their future that way.
Bessie B.:That's pretty much what you're going to get on this podcast is getting the real uncut. I'm not filtering anything about how my life is, what I've experienced in life, and I don't get key. That's another thing that I hate. Y'all, I really feel like today, especially with the social media era, everybody want to get on top. Everybody want to be you know at the highest peak they feel like they can be and social media is so like widely accessible and people just want to turn on the camera and they want to do whatever.
Bessie B.:Shout out to you. But for me, it's very important to make sure that I'm putting out authentic stuff and that I'm really giving you the real tea behind what it takes to get to these different levels and steps in life. So that's really important for me. I'm really excited about this. I think the reason why that I honestly procrastinated with this launching since I wanted to do this maybe like 2019, '20 '20 is because y'all, I am a perfectionist.
Bessie B.:Let me know, hit me up social medias, whatever, comments, whatever, DMs, whatever, let me know. There's got to be people and that's another thing, I want to communicate with y'all. I'm not that content creator, podcaster, whatever the case may be that don't communicate with my community. Cause at the end of the day, you need community to be where you are. At the end of the day, people need people.
Bessie B.:Let's say that again. People need people. I don't care how you slice and dice it because if you don't have people, there's a lot of things in your world that will not go around. I need my community, I need my people, so feel free to comment on the episodes that we do and to just in weight in your input and we can just have that back and forth dialogue. Now, there's some things that I also want to mention.
Bessie B.:Another reason why it took me so long to start this podcast was because, like I said, being a perfectionist, I felt like I needed to get it perfectly right. I felt like, oh my god, do I have the right mic? Oh my god, is my camera going to be great quality? Do I have great lighting? Do I have a great background?
Bessie B.:Do I need to get dressed up and put on this makeup and then this and that? That was something that I struggled y'all with when I first started my YouTube channel back in 2020. I felt like initially I was getting up, fixing my hair a certain way. I don't wear a lot of makeup, but I felt like I was like putting on makeup y'all. I felt like I was putting on makeup for what?
Bessie B.:I don't wear makeup naturally. Like occasionally, yes, but I am not a makeup girly. What am I putting on the makeup for? You know what I'm saying? Like to me, it just didn't make any sense to be sitting here, putting on a face full of makeup, getting dolled up.
Bessie B.:For who? For what? That's not authentic to who I am. Right? So that's where that came from.
Bessie B.:And then eventually I was like, oh my gosh, I know how to get on YouTube, I know how to start videos but do I really know how to engage with an audience? Do the audience want this? Do they want that? Like you just y'all basically you start to overthink a bunch of crap that you don't need to be overthinking. You need to turn on this camera and get started and if people want to rock with you they will.
Bessie B.:So that is something that I thought about and so with that being said I'm gonna be very authentic okay. Here's some of the real tea, which you can expect from Bessie B. I live in an apartment building in a 1920s building. Okay. I live in one of them areas where right across from me is three, four different apartments, apartment buildings, and sometimes you may get a little background noise.
Bessie B.:Sometimes you may hear the dog barking. Sometimes you might hear somebody car alarm going off, somebody kids in the background jumping around playing, some cat getting into a scruffle with another cat, or the neighbor just yelling because they want to be yelling. Sometimes that's just what you're going to get. However, it is what it is. I don't need to be perfect as long as I know that you all can hear me and we can interact, we're good.
Bessie B.:For those of you all that's watching, obviously I've decided to make this a vlog cast because that's where I originated from with the content and I wanted to do videos, but I also didn't want to limit myself because I know there's listeners and there's people that I like listening to podcasts, so I want to make sure that I'm reaching out to the wide range and just chatting it up with people. With that being said, this episode is the very first episode. It will be a shorter episode because I just want to tell y'all why am I here, why I feel like this podcast is going to be a little bit different than somebody else's podcast, and just introducing myself, introducing Bessie B. KNOWN. Let's go on to some get to know me.
Bessie B.:So getting to know me. Let's see, how do I sum this up so as not to she's telling me all of this and I don't really want to know all of that. Like we not on a date or something girl. We on a date y'all. We here, we here.
Bessie B.:So let me see, let me see some things. My journey, Bessie B is my name, okay. I am born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. Shout out to Beantown. I like to also acknowledge the fact that I was also raised in South Carolina as well.
Bessie B.:Some people actually don't know that. I feel like some people that's close to me, like friends might not know that. I was born in Boston. My family from my mom's side originated from South Carolina and they came up from South Carolina to Boston when my grandmother was like 15 and they pretty much just never went back. My grandmother stayed up in Boston with her older sisters and that's pretty much just how that went.
Bessie B.:My mom's born in Boston, all that good stuff. But one thing that my grandmother stayed true to was she like, Y'all gonna learn your roots, y'all gonna know where y'all from. She would always take us back to South Carolina to know where we from, our family because look, my grandmother y'all, there was literally out of her and her siblings, there was literally, I don't know the number gets a little twisted, they said it was somewhere between 19 to like 22, 20 three kids, somewhere around there. Let me just tell y'all, that's a lot of kids. My great grandma, my great grandpa, they was doing what they do, you hear me.
Bessie B.:And so I appreciated that. I appreciated going back to South Carolina, growing up, being in my roots and fun fact, at a point in time I actually grew up and lived in South Carolina. Another story for another day, but I actually lived in South Carolina at a point in time in my life. So I always considered myself like a city southern girl. I've coined that as who I am because you could take a girl from where they may have grown up, but you're never gonna take that out of them.
Bessie B.:So yeah, born and raised in Boston, raised in South Carolina as well. I finished high school and I've always been a creator. I professionally am an interior designer and a fashion designer. I left Boston after high school, went to school in Virginia, and there I obtained a degree in fashion design and merchandising. Then I finished in Virginia, moved to New York City to get my master's degree in interior design for commercial work.
Bessie B.:I just like to emphasize that because a lot of people I say interior design and baby, they be like, oh you can come to my house and zoom my house. No, I have no desire y'all. Unless you family and friends where I'm just doing you a little favor, I have no desire. I do commercial design so anything outside of residential, I got you. If you design a hotel or restaurant, hit me up.
Bessie B.:I am your girl. That is me. So that's my profession, that's my career. I also found out y'all in March that I am officially a PhD student. I will be starting my PhD this fall.
Bessie B.:It is focusing on architectural studies, focusing in human and environmental sciences, right? So you take architecture and you take human and the environment and you focus on how human species are interacting with the environment around them, obviously architecturally. We're going to take that, I'm going to break that down and really decide where my focus is. So far I feel like for me going into this, my focus is to really make sure that humans are being treated properly, treated fairly, understand their environment, and know what they have available to them. I feel like a lot of people don't know what they have available to them, so that's an important tip for me.
Bessie B.:Hopefully, goal could be to work with the government, making sure that rules and codes and regulations and fair acts are really implemented because I feel like it's just not. That is something that I'm interested in and I will be starting this fall twenty twenty five. I'm really excited you all. I didn't go straight after my Masters because I was like, Girl, you've been in school since you was in kindergarten all the way until you finished your Masters? I was like, Yeah, no, you need to take a little breaky break and you need to make sure that you get you some work experience, and that's what I did.
Bessie B.:Now I'm going back, I always felt like I needed to do this, always wanted to do this. Even when I was in grad school, I already knew that I wanted to be a part of this program at this university doing this exact thing. So here we are and that is what I'm going to be doing. I'm a Libra. I'm a Libra.
Bessie B.:That's a little more of a little fact for you. I'm a Libra. Shout out to us Libras, a September Libra. My birthday is September 27. So yeah, my birthday is coming up soon.
Bessie B.:I am in my mid thirties. Mind your business, don't be worried about my exact age, but I'm not a spring chicken. I'm kind, I'm not 20, I am in my mid thirties, thank you very much. I have a sibling. She and I, it's so funny.
Bessie B.:I'm not going tell you how old she is because then if I tell you how many years we are apart, you're going to try to do the math. No, that's not a big secret, but my sister and I are sixteen years apart. Actually, fun fact y'all, my sister, my mom, and I, all three of us are sixteen years apart. Okay, sixteen years apart. So it's always funny because like me, you see what I mean, y'all hear that horn, that's the stuff y'all gonna be hearing, the real, okay, the real.
Bessie B.:Yeah, me and my sister, we joke around because we're always like, oh my gosh, you're like my, like I'll tell her, you're like my sister daughter because y'all, I pretty much help contribute raising her, right? Obviously she's my sister biologically. So there's that. I have a dog. I do have a dog.
Bessie B.:His name is Obama, Obama B to be exact. He is my world. I have had him since he was four months. Okay, four months y'all. He will literally be 10 y'all.
Bessie B.:He will be 10 this year, actually in two weeks he'll be 10. And it's bittersweet because obviously, you know, once dogs start getting up in age, they're considered seniors, blah blah. And I don't like to hear it because that's my baby, y'all. That's my baby. I had him since I lived in New York and moved to LA and he's just my world.
Bessie B.:So I have him, maybe he'll do a little bit of appearances and stuff in the little vlog cast. But yeah, I have him and yeah, I think that's enough. I think that's enough to get you all to get to know who I am if you already don't know these things. I'm really excited. I know this episode is just the first episode.
Bessie B.:It's just getting your feet wet, giving you a little bit of who am I, and that's okay, right? It's a start but I promise y'all stay with me really truly, truly stay with me because what I can tell y'all about who I am for those of y'all that don't know, I am a person that's very in tune to my feelings y'all. There will be some episodes where when it gets deep into my spirit and I start speaking, my emotions start flowing. Yeah, look, let me tell y'all something. Let's just make this clear right now.
Bessie B.:Just because people cry don't make them soft, don't make them a punk, don't make them weak okay. There might be some episodes where I'm doing a little bit of But let's not misinterpret that because there need to be more people that can just be who they are. If that means that you're more emotional and you show that, then that is okay. Because some of these episodes are going get real deep y'all. Like I said, I'm laying it all out on the table.
Bessie B.:I'm filling y'all with information and knowledge that you may have always wanted but you didn't research on your own. You may have not known that you needed it, but I'm giving you that T anyways. Information that you feel like you can just carry on with you, right? And it may encourage you to share that information. So with all that being said, thank you for tuning in.
Bessie B.:Tell a friend to tell a friend, tell your family and tell them to tune in. I'm going to try to stick with, I believe I'm going to try to stick with Thursdays, right? I feel like Thursday is a sweet spot. It's right before the weekend. Y'all can tune in and listen when you drive to work.
Bessie B.:You can tune in after work on Thursday evening, check it out on YouTube because that is the option as well. We're to get this party started y'all. I'm really excited the most because I just feel like I feel like it's been too long and I think what really pushed me and I'm a end it on this note, what really pushed me was the constant drive that my passengers gave me when I was doing Lyft in Uber. Complete strangers only getting to know me within however long, right? Five, ten, fifteen, twenty minute drive and them just getting to know a little bit about me, they're like girl, do it.
Bessie B.:Make that happen. And I'm like I gotta make this happen. Like if you got complete strangers cheering me on and they don't know a whole lot about me, but they know just enough to be like, yo, you're going to be great at this. You are made for this. This is the sort of thing you need to be doing.
Bessie B.:Then I'm like, baby, who am I to go against what God got for me here on this earth? Who am I to go against it? I can't. Okay, so I'm really excited about it. This is going be real good.
Bessie B.:Also, out to some of my passengers that are subscribed to this, right? Y'all been waiting for this because when we were talking about it, I told y'all that this was going to happen and I'm committing to it. I'm getting up and baby we've also make it happen. So welcome, welcome, welcome everybody to Bessie B Knowing. And I may know what I know, but I don't know everything.
Bessie B.:But what I do know, I am always willing to share. So thank you, thank you, thank you for tuning in to this week's episode. Episode number one, episode number one, number one, number one, and I'm really excited. I'm gonna come back and we're gonna jump right into what I be knowing y'all. And what I know, I know.
Bessie B.:But what I don't know, I don't know and I'll go and learn some more about it and then I'll come back and let you know what I know. Thank you for tuning into the first episode. Hopefully you learned a little bit about me and I am so elated to have you along on this journey. Until next Thursday. Okay.
Bessie B.:Come back next Thursday and we'll be chatting again. Okay.
