And here's today's news from Rail Technology Magazine in association with Trans City Rail on Friday, 19th April, 2024. GB Railfreight, one of the country's largest rail freight operators, has signed a 2 year contract extension with Network Rail to provide critical services for engineering works and renewals. Under the agreement, GB Rail Freight will continue to provide possession trains to facilitate the movement of network rail wagons and will continue bulk services for the transportation of stone from quarries. The operator will also continue to operate 3 network rail logistics delivery centers at Whitemoor, Eastleigh, and Bescott. A report by the Office of Rail and Road has revealed that some disabled passengers experience accessibility difficulties with the rail complaints process.

Speaker 1:

A cross section of disabled people participated in research commissioned by the ORR discussing the experience of complaint handling by train operators. Many had a positive view of the complaint's process and its outcomes. However, there were also some reports of very poor experiences. A third of disabled passengers said they chose not to complain because they didn't feel their concerns would be addressed. And network rail engineers have completed embankment repairs following a complex operation to recover the railway after a train derailed in Grange over Sands on the 22nd March.

Speaker 1:

A void was found in the ground around a 150 meters from the site of the derailment, and engineers have worked around the clock to repair the damage. The next phase of the repair work is to replace the ballast before services resume again next week. And that's the latest.
