Welcome to today's enlightening discussion on the second Aliyah of Voira, found in chapter six, verse 14 of the Torah. In this portion, we witness a profound interaction between God and Moshe. God's nostalgic yearning for the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, provides us with an insightful contrast to the leadership of Moshe. Unlike the forefathers, whose journeys were often personally driven, Moshe's mission transcended personal ambition—it was a quest for the collective freedom and welfare of the Jewish people. Continuing to verse 15, the Torah provides us with a genealogical snapshot, mentioning Shimon and Levi and their respective lifespans. Levi lived to the age of 137, while Kahas reached 133 years. The mention of these years introduces a question: why does the Torah state that the Jewish people spent 190 years in Egypt? The answer is not straightforward, but it serves as a reminder of the complexities and nuances woven into our history.
