This week's question comes from my husband Justin and what he calls dream prep
So this week we're kind of just going to start it off with something random. This all comes from my husband Justin, and what he calls dream prepping.
Oh.
So, okay, he likes to dream prep, which means that he thinks of something while he's falling asleep. So that he tries to fall asleep and dream about that thing. I don't know, he's explained it a couple times. It really just sounds like he's trying to do lucid dreaming, but I don't think he does that either. so with that, he opened up a question the other night while trying to fall asleep and said it was part of his dream prepping. And I have the question for you.
Wait, before you get into this question.
Okay.
Are you saying he asks himself the same questions before he goes and sleeps?
All I know is I've never been involved in his dream prepping. And he rolled over and this was like one of the last things he said to me because obviously we tried to discuss it and then I needed, to think about it, and then I think we both fell asleep and I don't know, we didn't follow up with it ever again.
Oh, my gosh. I don't know what's gonna happen.
It was an interesting question. So.
So this is the question.
This is the question I have for you.
Great. Can't wait.
If I were to shrink down to, honey, I shrunk the kid's size, like this happened to me. What do I need to do to get your attention? And how would you take care of me once you found out that I am that size? Oh, my gosh.
What goes in his head?
I don't know. Here's the thing. You can think about it and we can touch base at the end of the episode. Or if you can really, because like I said, I needed a minute and I fell asleep. And I don't know if I really came up with what I would do, but I thought it was interesting. And I was like, I'm going to ask this to some people now. so you can take a couple minutes to think about it, or you can think about it and ponder it over the course of the episode. And we, can circle back later.
I think I have an off the gut reaction of what I'm asking as me, right?
Not, not us, not as Jake.
So that you, my sister. Only because we've now had this conversation and it's like, hey, this is how you save me. Or figure out where the heck I am. Because everyone will think you've disappeared. And only because I'm now currently looking at this lampshade in your room.
Okay.
Recording it. I'm like, potentially, you could carve a message into the lamp. Into the lampshade.
With what tool? When I'm m. The size of an ant.
Okay, the size of an ant. 1. If you're as cool as, What is it, Ant man. You could become friends with the ants.
Oh, my gosh.
But you're. Let's face it. You won't be that cool.
I'm not an actual ant.
No, I know, I know. I'm just thinking. I mean, you'd have some. You have some limbs, and a lampshade isn't completely. You know, it's not a brick. It would be hard when you are smaller. But I'm just thinking you could. You could start slowly chipping away at the lampshade.
Chipping away? That will take me days, and I'm gonna die of hunger.
Well, you get to ride with one of your cats. Hopefully to jump up onto the. See, onto the table.
So I thought about the cat route, but then I felt like I would be mistaken as a flea or something.
Yeah, Girly would kill you.
And girly would kill me instantly. Tibs. Tibs might know it's me just because he loves me so dang much and he is my cat.
Yeah, he'd have a sense of your presence somehow.
Kovu would be afraid of me as a tiny bug. Probably either that he'd bat me around. But that's the thing, Tibs. Lately he's been finding lizards and he's been playing with them. And I'm like, one, where are these lizards coming from? The outside? And two, Well, I would hope they'd.
Be coming from the outside.
I know. I just never see lizards in our house. But there's been two, and he's caught them both. He never kills them, though. He always just bats them around and plays with them. So Tibs would be my only hope. But if I run into Girly first, I could be food.
Yeah, that's true.
And then if I catch a ride with Tibs. So you're saying I catch a ride with Tibs, and then I come in this room into a lamp that would always have the door shut?
Well, I don't know.
What would you do to get Jake's attention if you shrunk down
And then I'd start chipping away at this lamp. This is where you'd go.
It's the first Thing that came to me, if I think on it a little bit more, something a little bit. I don't know this. At least you don't have high traffic. You're not likely to get hurt.
It's very true. But if I'm so small, it's just. I feel like the carpet's gonna slow me down.
I just. I have so many questions for Justin in his thought process. In this hypothetical, like, if you shrink down, the clothes that you last wore are like, are you shrunk and almost suffocating in those clothes and trying to get out? Like, will we know that there's a pile something that you just wore? And will Justin, who will likely be the one to have seen you last, remember that those were the clothes that you were last wearing?
He is oblivious to detail. However, I think in Honey I Shrunk the Kids movies, their clothes shrunk with them.
M. In which case that's a little. It's a little harder.
I would just like to say for the record that Justin and I haven't watched Honey I Shrunk the Kids together nor recently. So I don't know where he came up with this question.
And I'm just thinking, why the heck is he trying to dream prep that question so that that's what happens in his dream so that he shrinks.
Maybe it's one of those apocalyptic dreams where we all shrink from radioactive activity. I have no clue.
Now this is a new one that I have not heard of his.
Okay, so it's a little. It's a little bit more tough because we don't live together. So maybe I do ask the question, what would you do to get Jake's attention? And what would Jake need to do to get your attention? Because let me tell you, Stella. Stella would kill you.
Yeah, but I got Bailey there.
We also have Emma, who also puts everything in her mouth at the moment. Do you think, though, if you like, spit her or something, if she. If she'd let you go, I could just see little Emma, just coming around and finding little mom on the floor, picking her up, looking at her mouth. And then you, like, don't want to be bitten, so you are eaten. So you do something to try to get her attention. And she just looks at it like, why is my food biting me?
The thing is, for my own self protection. I just would not go near food if I knew my kid was gonna be there. Because, guys, my kid, she eats everything.
She eats everything.
And she will put most toys in her mouth. M. Mainly because we have dogs. And she sees that the dogs always put things in their mouths, so.
So I never thought about that.
Yeah, I feel like it's a thing with kids who have dogs. Not necessarily so much cats, because your cats don't play like with toys.
Yeah, that shows cuz girly to see girly's overweight need to exercise that girl.
No, I. I just. Emma, my child would not have the self awareness to be like, dad, mom is a mini, mini person. So I would have to get Jake's attention.
Yeah, I mean, that's true. Ace.
And to get Jake's attention, Ace would be like mama. To get Jake's attention. I think honestly, first I would go for the phone, see if I could type a message.
Your phone or his phone, I would.
Go, well, I guess I could go either way.
But his say it's on the desk and you're on the floor. How do you get there?
So on the desk and I'm on the floor. I mean, I got some good upper body strength. You think it's easier for the proportion of me? I, mean, I was always great at the hang. When I was.
I was awful at the hang.
It's because you're taller. I mean, your arms are also just pathetic. Pathetic arms. I, mean, I'm just. My arms. I got a little more build than you, whatever. And my proportion, just when you're a shorter person, I feel like I can easily. I don't know if it's life or death. My adrenaline's going and, I'm trying hard to climb up the.
You'd think the adrenaline would stand, would kick in. You'd really try to do that. Let's say this is the scenario. Jake is working from home. You are playing. No, Jake's not working from home. Because then, he would be like, where the heck did she just go? And he'd know something is amiss. So coming home from the gym.
I don't know. I know.
I just. I'm like, what is the scenario? Because if you're just playing with Emma in the living room and you shrink down to this size, you know, I really just have more questions for Justin.
I have so many questions for your husband.
If he wasn't playing video games right now with a friend, I would bring him in here. so we might have to revisit this one later on.
But it's an interesting question.
I do need to know in which scenario. Like, because if I were to just shrink down inside in front of Ace's eyes, I feel like he Would definitely be like, dada, Mama.
Jake asked me a weird dream prepping question before going to sleep
And he'd point, mama tiny.
Mama small.
Mama small. That's what you say.
Mama small. Emma would just be screaming, mom, Mom. Poor girl. Until Jake comes running in. But, But do you think she'll point to you? My question is just like, am I initiating this and it accidentally happens and therefore I am by myself? I don't have a kid around me, and therefore it's just truly crazy that it shrank me, whatever this thing is.
Yeah, I mean, I guess that's what happened in Honey I Shrunk the Kids, right? He was in the basement or something and science experiment went arai.
Yeah. Or in your case of thinking apocalyptical or some kind of body hijacking, someone just shrinks me. Let's just be real. This is never going to happen.
I want to go with this. If this helped his dream prep, actually prep his dream, I don't know if.
I want to know the answer. I just, I like, I just. So many questions.
But again, this was. He has never asked me a dream prepping question. At least that he has said openly. Like, I was just dream prepping. But I think I said, what made you even think of asking me this right now? Because we were literally drifting off into sleep and he had said this and he was just like, oh, you know, just dream prepping. And then we just. We fell asleep.
Matter of fact, I mean, maybe there's a reason why he doesn't ask you these questions, because they're all as bizarro as this.
I don't know.
Let me tell you, Jake is not thinking of those things before he's going to bed. Random, hypothetical, weird questions.
Oh, I know there's for sure, like, other nights that he is not. But this night he was on the dream prepping train. Because other nights he just, like, can't fall asleep and shut off his brain from work or whatever is going on.
Yeah. This is why I think we were all super shocked that dream prepping even.
Existed when we found out.
Yeah. Apparently he has been doing this, guys, for years and years.
I've been married to him and I never even knew until like last year.
Like, here, and we're like, hold up. Come again? Dream prepping.
What is, dream prepping? And really, the more I think about it, it does sound just more like lucid dreaming. Trying to be a lucid dreamer.
Yeah. Which, let me tell you, when I want to go to sleep and fall asleep, I just want to hit that pillow and pass out. Yeah, I'm not trying to think about what dream I want to dream about.
Have you had any interesting pregnancy dreams lately
But have you had any interesting pregnancy dreams lately? Because those are interesting.
I know. I should really write them down.
I really should too.
The last one I did have that I vividly remember was the gender of my baby. But then I think I had shared. A week later I had another dream where it was the opposite. The gender was the opposite. So I know I have dreamed something since. Because Jake is always the one to listen to my dreams. I should really be the one to ask him what did I last tell him about. Cause I have so many.
I know I've something and I've texted it in the group chat. I don't remember what it was, but.
I do have one. You had an alligator dream?
I have a lot of alligator dreams. They attack me or people I love. And that happened when I was pregnant with Ace too.
I had alligator dreams. Yeah, you have alligator dreams when you're pregnant.
It's very strange. I don't have them otherwise.
You know, I had. So everybody says water dreams are very common when you're pregnant. And I definitely had them when I was pregnant with Emma.
I've had water dreams. I don't know if they were while I was pregnant, but I very vividly remember crashing into water while Justin was driving. And I was so angry at him. Oh, I did have a really. I did have a really crazy dream. I don't remember. I have to think about what it is. So I'll have to ponder while you talk about it. But I was like livid.
You're mad at Justin again?
I was livid at Justin and it was something over. It was over something ridiculous. I told him too.
I have to remember while you ponder. Yeah, for this pregnancy, I had a. I. The difference with my dreams is I had a lot more dreams about ice. Like it. It was. It was a water based dream. But things were frozen.
Frozen.
So I never googled to see what potentially that could mean. M. Because I never really look into. Look into the meaning of dreams. But I. I'm curious if that means anything is some type of trend of meaning.
I've definitely looked up alligator dreams and what they mean, but they do only occur for me. One, when I'm pregnant. I had like two or three of them when I was pregnant with Ace and now I've had two, I think.
Yeah.
And they're ridiculous. I mean this one involved me getting carried away by a bird. I feel like while the city was attacked or the town was attacked by an alligator. And you didn't believe me in my dream that there was an alligator.
Did I die in this dream?
No. No one ever dies. We all just get attacked.
Mauled by alligator goodness.
I do remember the one that I was living at Justin for. I don't remember who we were celebrating with, but we were celebrating Christmas in my dream, and we were opening presents, and it wasn't Christmas yet, and so we were just celebrating with someone ahead of time. And I said, it's fine that we open gifts, but I want to keep the stockings for Christmas Day. And I was adamant, and he did not. He didn't.
Justin went straight for the stockings.
He opened the stockings still. And I woke up livid. I was so mad, and it's just so ridiculous. I told him.
I was like.
I was so mad at you because you opened your stocking before Christmas Day. So Christmas Day, we had nothing to open.
Yeah, that. Well, I. I feel like in your dream, was he just looking at you smiling while he's opening the stocking? No, it's just some.
I don't think so. I remember him delivering them and was like, if you do it, I'm gonna be so mad. And then he did it. That was so mad.
As you said, ridiculous. No.
I, haven't had for as much dream prepping as this kid talks about. I never really hear a lot of dreams from him.
I know. It makes me think his dream prepping is not working.
There has only been a couple times where, like, it was at our first property, that we lived in. Our first house that we lived in when we first got married, where I woke up to him laughing in his dreams, like, in his sleep. And I was looking at him giggling. Yeah. And I looked at him and I was like, are you awake?
I have never had anybody die in my dreams, I feel like
Like, your eyes are closed? And he could. I think he could just tell that someone was looking at him. Or maybe he, like, opened his eyes a little and he was just like, yeah, I know. And I was like, what? He started talking to me, and he's like, I'm, like, you're laughing right now. And he's like, yeah, I know my dream is funny. And later on he told me it was something with chickens.
That is so random.
That is literally the only dream I can ever pinpoint back to. And that was almost 10 years ago.
I mean, I've never had. I have never woken up to Jake laughing or really doing anything in his sleep that I can think of. I don't know if I have. I wouldn't be surprised if I did laugh in my dreams.
I've laughed like once or twice in the last year, actually recently. But I don't because. Justin, remember what? No, I remember waking up and getting like.
Woke up laughing.
it was interesting. I was like, that's never happened before. I couldn't tell you what the dream was though.
Interesting.
And then I've definitely woken up crying. I texted our brother Jason.
Oh, yes, I do remember this one.
Yeah, I don't remember. Was I pregnant for that one?
No, I don't think so.
Well, I woke up and I texted Jason because I had our older brother. Yeah.
Oldest brother.
Oldest, yes. And he, I think had been in a serious accident in my dream and he had died. Like I've never had anybody die in my dreams, I feel like. And that was the first time. And I woke up crying. And so I texted him and was like, you all good over there? And he was. He's still alive and kicking.
Woo. And, hey, make sure you wear your seatbelt today.
Yeah. For real? Yeah.
I haven't. I don't think for siblings I've had anybody die in my dreams.
I don't think Jeremy's ever been in my dream. I've dreamed about you and then I've dreamt about Jason dying.
I'm positive I've had Jeremy in my dreams. Our other older brother.
Yes, our other older brother.
But, now in my more recent dreams where ice was involved, like, I want to say we were ice skating or something with Jason and you were there. this is where I wish I had written down some of my dreams because it's like we were skiing or on a hill with snow and I'm just like, I'm not dreaming about water, but this is frozen water. Like frozen H2O, so.
Well, you know, alligators come from water, so maybe those are my water dreams.
Totally. You totally influenced some of my early beginning dreams with Emma when I was having some water dreams. Because my very first one that I really do remember was I was on an island.
Oh, was it a shark?
No, I was on an island by myself and we were surrounded by three alligators that were definitely going to kill me.
Oh, well, if I told you about the alligators, then definitely influenced you.
Totally.
So sorry.
Yeah. But that's really the only alligator dream I had with Emma that I vividly remember.
Yeah, mine were only ever pregnancy. Otherwise, before that, I had very interesting dreams as a child and I always dreamt of twisters. I always had tornado dreams.
Ooh, that was my last dream.
Justin and Ashley live in Florida and experienced Hurricane Milton last month
I feel like you did talk about a tornado Dream. And I brought it up earlier.
So, you know, guys, I was thinking in my head, you know, we're really close to Halloween when we're recording this podcast, and I was thinking, you know, should I take this turn for the scary. What scary dreams we've had? And we just. So we live in Florida, and we just experienced Hurricane Milton. Hurricane Milton's passing through.
Yes.
Of, Florida. And fortunately, we are okay. We only. Between both Ashley and myself, our houses and our properties, we experienced very minor damage, if anything. Yeah.
I mean, you had one broken tree, and I had a fence that blew down that I put back up the next day. Yeah. Outside of. Very fortunate. Unlike some other people around us.
Yeah. So, But it definitely. I could tell my mind was on it because I. I was dreaming the night before Milton was supposed to come through, I was dreaming about tornadoes. And I had, Jake and I had lived in Alabama, where we were in Tornado Valley, and also experienced the stress. It was a little more stressful than when we grew up in Illinois, where there were occasional tornadoes. And, I mean, one time there was even a funnel cloud. I know. That definitely passed over our house.
Yeah.
And, so once in a while, I have had some very vivid tornado dreams when I am, worried about tornadoes. but with a hurricane, I honestly. And this was my first hurricane experience, truly, after moving.
Yeah. We've all literally had tropical storms since you've moved.
Yeah. So for Jake and me, we are probably a little more high, stressed out about it than others because it's also this category five that is still heading toward landfall, and we suspected it was going to be higher than a category one, maybe by the time it hit us, even. So, regardless of all of that, I'm just. The night before, I have a dream about. I'm walking outside, not even in an environment that I recognize current state, but I'm walking down this town that has buildings all up. And Emma, my daughter, and I, we are walking into a restaurant. Oh.
I was going to ask if there was a yellow brick road.
No yellow brick road.
I'm going to ask if it was Oz.
There. There were brick buildings around me, but no, no yellow brick road. We're on a sidewalk. And all I remember is we're about to step into this dining restaurant. and I turn around and I look at the sky. I'm like, that doesn't look good. And I'm just thinking, oh, maybe we shouldn't have left the house at this point in time. And I don't know if I have Enough time to make it back to Jake, back wherever my house is in.
This environment, Justin's worst nightmare, being separated from me or us, me and the rest of the family while an apocalyptic thing or disaster happens. Yeah.
So that's my circumstance. And I'm with Emma and I'm like oh my gosh. I can, I can just see the slightly dark blue clouds start to become uglier in color in just purple, greenish. And I'm like oh my gosh, it's spinning and I'm panicking in my heart. I can feel it. And I'm just like oh my gosh. I'm grabbing Emma. she's still as small as she is in my dream. You know, this almost two year old and I'm picking her up and I'm just going into one of the buildings. I can't even remember if it was the restaurant that I was going to be going into originally or not. But all I know is I'm running into whatever next door business that I can step into. But then I do this final look and it's way more than one tornado and I'm just like, oh my gosh, how do I protect my baby in this? And I'm pretty sure we're just gonna get lifted up and die. Apocalypse tornadoes.
And then I wonder if Justin's thought of that one.
well I, it wasn't in my dream. It wasn't apocalyptic feeling. It was just, this is natural. But there's at least three tornadoes that are going to touch down around me and I am not safe at all. And it's ghost town. Nobody's around me. I, there's nobody. They, they knew all to just stay inside and stay away from whatever weather was coming and impending. But anyway they had the warnings.
You did not.
I guess not. But I m make it into the building and then I wake up and next thing I know I'm talking to Jake and I'm just like, Jake, I think I might be a little worried about the tornadoes in this hurricane situation because I just dreamt about three of them.
Just to say during Hurricane Milton, that was the most in all of the time that I've been living in Florida. And I think even Justin said, and Justin grew up in Florida that that was like the most crazy amount of tornadoes weather that has ever been brought on by a hurricane. Yeah, we're like, I think I sent you guys whatever statistic it was.
It was like over 40 or something.
Yeah, over 40 touchdowns. And like I think most of the damage from the hurricane was most tornado based. Yeah.
Yeah.
And there was a tornado that touched down in our town.
In our town.
Yeah.
I did not read about this.
It was over by the road that leads to Jeremy and Callie that you get no service.
Oh, yeah.
Jeremy and Kelly say they were fortunate with no damage from tornadoes
So there was luckily nothing really out there, but there was one that touched down. It was pretty much when we were texting you guys, asking if you guys were good.
To Jeremy and Kelly.
Yeah.
If they were good. Which they did not respond to.
They did not. But they're good.
Yeah, they are. They are good.
luckily the rest of our family was also fortunate with no damage. I think my in laws, my, parent in law's parents in law, they lost power for a little bit, but it was back on pretty immediately.
Okay. Yeah, We. We prepared to have the power go.
Out, and I was very surprised that we did not.
Yeah, just had one power bump.
We were very. Like we said, we were very fortunate. The storm moved north. North. Which for us meant that the eye went over our town. And unfortunate for people north of us, they got the brunt of it.
Yeah.
But, yeah, the, the tornadoes were crazy.
Yeah.
There's like the most warnings too, of all of the U.S. i, think it was top two or top five or something.
Yeah. Which for me and Jake, we had nothing to compare it to because this was, like I said, our first hurricane to experience. So Jake and I were just paying attention to the local news and we're seeing all of the tornado warnings, and in our mind, we couldn't compare it to anything. To be like, is this normal? Is this a lot of tornadoes, whatever? Because to us, we just came from Alabama and, Tornado Valley. So we're like, well, this just seems like a typical stormy weather day in Alabama, plus the hurricane. But with the, with the stress of thinking, okay, we just have to know where these tornado warnings are happening. That didn't seem too different to us.
Yeah. I think the only main thing that we had already discussed was that at least with a hurricane, you can expect there to be crazy weather with the outer bands as it moves in inland. Whereas with some of the hurricanes and. Or not hurricanes, tornadoes in Tornado Valley and everything, sometimes they just pop up and have no warning.
Yeah.
Have you watched Twisters yet? I have not. I totally binged on the other TV show
Speaking of, have you watched the new Twisters yet?
I have not.
I keep telling her, guys, it was so good.
I totally binged on the other TV show with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. Okay. I couldn't remember if that was his episode.
Nobody wants. I, still have not watched a single episode. So you know, but it was renewed.
I think you're gonna love it.
It was, it got a season two.
So I'm happy about this.
I do look forward to catching up on that TV when I get there.
Yeah, what's fun about, what's fun about it is, it's also about some, some sisters who are podcasting.
