Full show transcript:

You've been uh

really good about keeping up on the laundry. Like you've been really tackling the laundry every day. So when I come home, like the laundry has been done, and I appreciate it. I want you to know that I I appreciate it.

I told you I have chores. I basically set myself up because here's the deal. I get done with work a couple of hours every day before you do because you have a second job. You don't get done until five, uh, other than Fridays when you get done at the same time as me. So Monday through Thursday, I feel like it's important for me to spend at least an hour of that two hours working on stuff at home, whether that's prepping for dinner, dishes, laundry.

I always make the bed when I get home. Um I if I'm doing yard work, whatever it is. I feel like that's my time to focus on doing some chores to help around the house since you're working an extra job and a couple extra hours. That's my time to go do house stuff. So I try to squeeze in a little bit every day.

I appreciate it. Um I also do appreciate that you hang up my shirts to dry.

Right, because you don't like to put them in the dry.

No. So I appreciated that. Uh I had to give you a little talking to. Okay.

No, you didn't. You had a white shirt that you spilled.

No, no, no, no, juice on. Hold on. No, hold on. What? I took out a shirt and it was a little bit crinkled. It was like one that you had hung up to dry. And I said, Oh, hey, I appreciate that you're doing my laundry, but can you just like give it a shake before you hang it up to dry? That'll kind of give it like a it won't be so crinkled when you hang it up. And then you said, I thought I had done that.

Yeah, you think I don't do this.

You showed me that you really stain-treated my white shirt that I got beet juice on. Yeah. And then I felt very sad that I had even lectured you.

Just yesterday, you said, hey, if you're doing the laundry, this shirt has a stain on it. If you wouldn't mind taking a little extra time with this stain on this black shirt just because it's on there. Thanks. Like I'm some dry cleaner. Like this has an extra stain.

I just didn't want you to wash it and then not know that there was a stain on there, and then it would never get stain-treated. You did get the beet juice stain out. So I appreciate that. Thanks. Good job. I know how to do laundry.

You know what else uh is interesting? Uh I haven't had the unbalance issue with the washer since I've really taken on doing the laundry because I know the different settings. I don't just leave it on normal when I'm doing like blankets and towels. You gotta change it to bulky or bedding slash waterproof.

Because it does different things with the spin cycle. Anyway. Uh you're welcome. Thanks for doing the laundry. Is that the right you're welcome?

Yeah. Thanks. Keep on keeping on.

I will. And here's today's show. Mega morning. Oh, hi. I was just looking at my breakfast that I brought.

Um I'm thinking I made a healthy choice. I've got a banana. I've got a uh this is a like a blueberry kind of granola breakfast bar thing. And I've got some uh cottage cheese. I think that's great. Yeah.

What do I know? I'm not a nutritionist, but I think it looks good.

I was looking at uh a video you posted of some cereal, and I was thinking maybe I wanted that. Oh, I thought we left that at home. And that's when I realized we left that at home.

That cereal is so good. So I'm gonna have this.

Okay, but I'm gonna wish it was honeyos.

Is that the first time you had honeyos? It's so good, huh? Yeah. I know. Yeah. I know. It's really good.

I'd like to have that for breakfast, but I didn't bring it today.

No, but I think we do have some honey nut cherios.

I don't have uh I think the honeyos and honey nut Cheerios, for what it's worth, are both better with almond milk. Yeah, I agree.

But then you could throw your banana in there too. Oh no, man. I don't like that. You don't like that?

I don't like banana in my cereal.

Oh man, it's only good in honey nut cherios, honestly. Have you ever put any fruit in your cereal? Cyril.

No. I I'm I think I've probably sliced up a banana and put it in cereal before, but I don't like it. I don't like a wet banana. I think that's pretty much all I have to say about it. I don't I don't like it. I'm not really big on banana splits now that I think about it. Really? I like ice cream and I like bananas. I don't really like a cold ice cream banana. I don't mind it. Maybe that's just me.

I just think a banana split's too much.

Because you're gonna do multiple scoops plus all the different toppings and whipped cream and all that other stuff. Yeah, it's a lot. I feel like that's something you share. Yeah. You'd have to.

I mean, there's a lot of people who don't, but it's too much. If you eat. alone.

Who are you trying to convince? It's too much. Uh anyway. I'm I'm looking forward to eating this. I just wish it was something different. That's all.

My breakfast. What did I bring for breakfast? I brought yogurt. Okay. I spent a long time packing my lunch last night, and then I opened the fridge this morning. I had like leftover from dinner.

Yeah. I had some vegetables. I had uh your beets that you pickled are actually much better now.

Nice. So I packed some of those, but then I looked in the fridge this morning to get my lunch. And I remembered that I had leftovers from when we went out with friends. So you just got that.

So I abandoned everything that I everything? Yeah. Wow. I'll save it for tomorrow. I couldn't pack all of that stuff. Okay. Anyway, my breakfast is yogurt and also a banana. Wow.

And this has been What Are We Eating for Breakfast? Breakfast with the Tielors. Good morning. All right, let's get you some good news this morning. Uh minor league baseball player named Sawyer Stowsnyder or Stossny. Something, something like that.

Okay. He was the 66th overall pick in the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft. High hopes for a great career, and Sawyer is playing his first season as a pro player on the Milwaukee Brewers class A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers team. So he's working his way up to the bigs is what's happening. To the bigs. That's right. Well, last week he hit his first home run over the right field fence, which is kind of a big accomplishment. And the fan who happened to be standing just beyond the right field fence to catch the home run ball was Sawyer's dad Scott. Aww.

That's nice.

How does that even happen? Did he know? I don't. I mean, you're just playing baseball. How can you? I mean, no. Maybe the dad knew his son was up to bat. Yeah, of course he did. He's watching the game.

So who are you asking? Did he know? The son? What are you saying? Sawyer? You said did he know.

Not me. This is your question. I'm gonna continue with the story. Okay. Scott got the catch, uh, which was amazing. He snagged a historic ball while recording the video on his phone. No. So his son's up to bat.

He's hit ri hit re hits record, and his son smacks the ball right in the home run area, right toward his dad's dad snags the ball. Amazing. Amazing.

That's awesome. Uh Sawyer said it was uh quite a surprise that his dad caught the home run ball, but in hindsight, it all makes sense. He says, My dad, he can't sit still, so he loves to run around the stadium. I'll just be looking up at a foul ball or something. I'll see him on every different side of the stadium. I think he was just at the right place at the right time.

But his dad's like, I'm gonna go I gotta go. I'm busy. Yeah. Pretty ugly. so cute, though. I know, isn't that fun?

Proud dad. Yeah, Sawyer and his dad just playing catch like the old days. Yeah, pretty cool. That's good news. Do you want to ask your question? No. Okay. Do you ever have friends?

And then you say, hey, let's get together. We should get together. And then years go by and you still haven't hung out with them. All the time. And then you text and then you go, hey, we should get together. Mm-hmm. And then one day, plans finally make it a reality. Oh, yeah. Is that what happened? Yeah. Yeah.

That's pretty much what happened. And then you meet up with friends and you have uh dinner and you have like years of catching up to do. Yeah. It's been a long time since you've hung out. And then your friends say to you, I

don't really listen to you guys in the morning. I go, You kept me deep, dude. You kept me real deep. I said, we've talked about you on the radio. Yeah.

Talking about him right now. And he sent us uh a text a second ago and said he was listening. So thanks.

Prepare to be entertained.

Are you not entertained?

Uh I'm happy when plans finally.

I felt pretty good because we we'd had a conversation about getting together. There's like a group of five of us, and we said, We got it. We have got to get together.

Uh it's been a really long time. We used to be co-workers, three of the five of us, and so it was like, we gotta, we gotta do this, right? Like there's something's gotta happen. He recently had a birthday, so we said this is like an excuse now. We have an excuse to get together. Let's do something. And so we planned dinner. Uh I made a reservation once we got a confirmed head count.

Yes. That we were all gonna be there. We all showed up at the reservation time and had it it all worked. And nobody stood us up. That's what I'm saying. It all worked.

And then after dinner, it was like we didn't want to be I know.

Let's keep hanging out. So we kept hanging out. Like old time.

It was like we liked each other. It was like we had friends.

For for a moment. For a brief moment.

For adults to have friends. I don't know.

Sometimes I think it's just the busyness of everything. You got you got everybody has as a full life, you know. So it's really hard to schedule all that. I think that's probably thing one. Thing two is that uh it it takes work.

You have to put in effort to prioritize and make that time and give that attention. So that's all. I think it's just as simple as that. Meeting new people, very different. Very difficult. Impossible. It's very hard.

And that's okay. I sometimes I don't want to meet new people.

Sometimes I go I'm good with the friends I've got.

Yeah. I know I just have to make plans with the friends I've got.

That is true. That is true. So anyway, uh, thank you for listening. And do we call him out? You could you should.

Thanks for listening. Finally, Dana. Finally. Well, he used to tell us that he used to fall asleep to our podcast.

That's right. He has a uh like a pillow speaker. Have you seen these? No. So it's a uh I've thought about

how do you know what his pillow looks like?

I don't know what his pillow looks like. I know that he has a pillow speaker. I've never seen his pillow. Oh, okay. But it's it's a small uh like Bluetooth speaker, but it you put it under your pillow, and only the person with their head on the pillow can hear it. Oh, that's kind of cool. Yeah, so he would fall asleep to our podcast years years ago. I mean and then he was like, I listen to other podcasts now. Oh, sure. Sure thing, bud.

I can't even with you.

What is there more than just this show out there? There's other shows that exist. Fine, not as good. Fine, not as good. Be that way. Anyway. No, it was it was good. I'm glad we got that. Finally, we can check that one off the list until we put that back on the list and go, we should probably get back together with that group.

We should see everybody. When was the last time we saw each other? Um, 12 months ago.

It's been a year. How many grandkids do you have now? I know. That's exactly what happens. Anyway. Thanks for listening.

I've been using Emery's shampoo because I ran out and I just haven't bought more of mine. Um, so I've been using hers for a couple of days, and I got a big lecture.

Well, I saw part of that because we were playing with the dog. She's afraid of the bathroom scale. So we were standing in the bathroom, and then apparently she looked into the bathtub, the shower area, and saw that the lids on the shampoo and conditioner were up, they were open, and that is not okay.

Apparently not. And I got in lots of trouble because not because I use them, but because but because...

Okay, do you normally you normally share shampoo and conditioner. Okay. No.

I have like a special one that I use, but uh I just haven't I have to get it from a special place. So you're out. I'm out, and I just haven't gone yet.

You have to get it from a special shampoo place. Yeah. Is it just like the hair salon place?

It's just where you go to get your hair. your hair done? Or via my cosmetologist That's what I was assuming. No, you can also get it at CosmoProf.

Oh. But you have to have I see. So, but it's special. It is special. I see.

Because my hair has some issues, and so it was been prescribed by my two cosmetologists.

My hair has some issues. Like it doesn't like to grow.

Okay. So she clicks the lids closed, all kind of like annoyed.

With some attitude. I saw it. Yeah. She definitely was like, oh and

then said, I'm not mad that you're using my shampoo and conditioner that I bought, by the way. That you bought. You paid for. Yes.

She claims is hers. I'm on it.

It's hers. I bought it for her. Yeah, I understand. Yeah, I think I could use it a couple of times. Well. And then she says, I just, if you would just close the lids when you're done. That's all I ask. That's really all I asked. That's all I asked. And I went, okay. I I hear it. I understand. I'll make sure that happens.

And that's a that was the end of the thing I saw. Yeah.

I appreciated you telling me, and I will, I will, I will obey your wishes. But now, if we're gonna have another conversation.

Now, okay. Did this conversation happen, or is this a hypothetical you wish you would have had this comeback, but you didn't want to kick the hive type thing. It was that. Okay, I just want to make sure I understand that the what we've talked about so far actually happened from now on, it's make believe. Got it. Okay, go ahead.

What I wanted to say, but I said to you in the bedroom with the door shut because my teenager scares me.

Was I have a few things that I'd like to ask. Yeah.

Like maybe unload the dishwasher before I prompted ask you. Right. Uh here's another thing that I ask. Just put the toilet paper back on the Yeah.

If it runs out, put a new uh roll on. That's all I asked.

Oh, something else. Maybe get all the dishes out of your bedroom. That's all I asked. That's all I ask.

Maybe vacuum somewhere other than just your room once in a while. That's all I ask.

I mean if we're making demands here, I've got a few of my own. Kid.

It's not a lot to ask, but it is all I ask. You know. You're on summer break still. Lectured. Yeah.

By my teenager. Can you even believe the nerve?

I can, and it'll probably happen today too about something completely different.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. It will. I'm excited for you.

I mostly get eye rolls. I don't get a lot of uh a lot of that.

A lot of attitude. I get a lot of attitude. Mm-hmm. The mom and daughter relationship is a slippery slope. It's different. It is.

Yeah, I get a lot of like, oh, dad. Like that's the stuff I get. Oh, this guy. This guy trying to tell jokes again. Oh.

But there's a lot of times I go, I can't. You have to go because if I go in, it's gonna blow up. I know.

I go to the same thing. And I'll go say the same thing that you would say, and it gets a different response. It's fine. That's why we're a team. We are a team. You have to be. If you're not a team, you you'll get taken advantage of. One on a one-on-one with a teenager is a bad idea.

Especially if it's a mom and a daughter. a daughter. That's what I'm saying. Yeah. Oi.

It has a real short fuse on it.

When it's good, it's really good. Sure. When it's bad, it's horrid.

But can be fixed with a refreshment, usually. Yes.

So you know how Facebook will pop up some memories. Yeah. Thirteen years ago, our son was eight. Eight. And I posted something that he had said to me. He told me that my belly button looked like the pit that the sandworm lived in from Star Wars. So that memory popped up. And I said he was eight.

He was eight when he told you that your belly button looked like the sandworm pit. Yeah. Wow.

Feeling pretty good about myself then and now. Yeah.

Because I said you bring this up.

He's 21 now. And I said, hey Beck, 13 years ago, this is what you said to me, hoping I would get some sort of apology or what was I thinking, or that's crazy. No, he goes, still true. Wow. We raised a jerk.

Well, that's uh I was just trying to look up a picture of it. That's terrifying.

Okay, to be clear, it's not the sandworm, it's the pit.

Yeah, look up sandworm pit Star Wars, Star Wars, sandworm pit Star Wars. That's harder to say. And the very first image is just horrifying.

I don't think my belly button looks like that. No, it doesn't.

What do you mean I don't think it looks like that? No kidding.

No, I'm gonna be all self-conscious about my belly button. Thanks, bud. And thank you, Facebook Memories, for making me remember that.

No kidding. What a thing.

Man. Well, uh, one, it's not that deep. The Sarlac pit.

It isn't that deep.

Because it turns into sandworm. My belly button's not that deep, is what I'm saying. Right. Right.

The actual pit is just the the rim on the outside, but then it's sarlac mouth after that. Oh, uh-huh. That's why the teeth the teeth and all that stuff is part of the mouth of the sandworm. I see. The actual pit is just the area directly around it. Okay. You know what I mean? I yeah.

I'm just looking at it, going, golly. Yeah. Now I'm looking at my belly button. Oh, cool. No. That's so rude. At work. It's so rude.

Don't look at your belly button at work. That should be a rule. No belly buttons at work. Why? Why?

Why can't I look at my belly buttons?

I don't know. I feel like that's there's got to be in a handbook somewhere. No belly buttons at work. I just know it. There's gotta be a rule.

Is it just because mine is gross?

No, you don't have sandworm pillows. You don't have a Sarlock pit belly button.

No. You do not.

I don't think I do either. I'm gonna not listen to his words. Boing flip.

Oh, you haven't boing flipped in a long time. I didn't Isn't that from Scrubs? It's from Scrubs. Yeah. It's the I'm rubber, you're glue. Yep. What what bounces off me sticks to you kind of idea?

Yeah. And so uh they say boing flip because it bounces off of me and flips back to you. It's a boing flip. Yeah. You haven't boing flipped in a long time.

I'm not gonna listen to the hurtful things you say. Boing flip. Flip it away. Okay. Cool. There is a trend on TikTok. It's called the Hades Town Challenge. And if you don't know the Hades Town Challenge, it is essentially uh a challenge that gets sent to a character in the play, Orpheus. Yeah. And he he has to he has to walk, and he can't look back at his his woman following him.

Yeah. So this is I mean, this is a Greek love story. This is not new info. No. Like this is this is Orphan's. That's a new story. And Eurydus. You're a DC. You're a DC. Is that how you say it? I never know how to say her name.

I know. And every time I do, Emory gets mad at me. I know.

And she goes, that's wild, bro. Uh anyway. So the idea is that you uh yeah, you have to walk and not look back and trust that your partner is going to make it to the destination on their own in step with you. Here's the problem with you and I. I can stay on task.

Yeah. You get distracted by a butterfly and disappear. The grocery store, the mall, it doesn't matter, the park. We could be walking through a street. You're like, oh, what's over here? Wait a minute. And then I'm gonna be at the destination waiting.

Okay, but listen to me when I say that we've already played this game in airports. Oh, I know. You've already and I make it to the destination. Yeah, but I always walk.

I have to check. You will.

Sometimes you don't check, though.

If I didn't check, would you make it? Yes. I don't have the strongest of faiths that you bro. No, I'm not being mean. I'm just telling you. If if we went from airport parking lot to gate. Yeah.

And I couldn't look back at all. Yeah. From parking lot to gate. Okay. You're gonna stick close enough and not I I'm not gonna look back. I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna, I'm gonna act like I don't know you. Yes, I could do it.

Do I know all the information? I don't I know what gate I am supposed to be at. You should. Okay.

Or not, because you're just supposed to follow. me. Yeah, I could. Stop looking at me like that. I'm gonna move at my own my own pace. When my shoes are on, I'm out. I've got to reach the goal.

I can't, you're gonna have to hustle. I hope that the person that's telling you to take your shoes off, which I understand is not necessarily a thing right now. But if they're telling you shoes in one bin laptop in another, and you're getting yelled at and you're not moving in step. I could do it. You might get lost.

No, no, I could do it. I can't even believe you. I can't even believe you think that I can't. You don't know at all. Hang on.

From landing airplane. Okay. Back to parking lot. Fine. Easy. Done.

Easy. I Oh no. I could do it.

Big big airport with bus shuttle to parking lot. Josh. I'm I'm just trying to make sure.

I know that like I've become super codependent since I've met you. Yeah. But I used to be an independent woman.

You used to be? You used to be an independent woman. I see.

I can do stuff.

I know you can do stuff. I'm not saying you're incapable or that if I'm not doing it for you, you will fail. That's not what I'm trying to convey at all. I'm just saying in this particular scenario. The airport scenario. The airport scenario.

You don't think I can navigate an airport on my own? Is that what you're saying?

I'm saying if your job is follow me and keep up. No. You don't have the information. Okay. You literally we park. We have to get the stuff out of the car. We have to get on the shuttle. We have to take the shuttle to the departures part of the airport. We have to get through security. We have to get to our gate. We have to sit down.

And that's when we can talk to each other or look at each other at all. Okay. I can't look or interact with you until I'm sitting down and you sit down next to me at the gate. I will be there alone for a while. That's what I'm saying. Wrong, dude. You I want to do the challenge. I want to do that challenge. I do too. I I also just want to fly somewhere. Me too. There's that.

I think I could do it. I do. I'm sad that you don't have enough faith in me.

I have faith that you'll find me. There might be a phone call. You might have to go, I don't, I'm I I don't know where I am. And I'll be like, look to your left. And you'll go, oh, there it is. You'll be close. But you'll eventually be like, I can't. Where'd you go?

If it was a longer challenge and we had to like walk and walk and walk. Yeah. And I I absolutely would get distracted. Okay. By something. For sure. But then I would also, if it was days and days and days.

Yeah. That you were just walking and you couldn't look back. I'd also be like, you gotta give me something. Throw me a lifeline. What am I following you for? Do you even know I'm following you? Have you forgotten all about me?

You you have so many emotions tied to we're on a task. I know.

I know. This is why I'm on task.

I will fulfill my end of the bargain, which is don't look back. Keep walking. I'll see you at the end.

And I'm like, no, just look back. Yeah. Skip. Now I I do think that

he had to walk ahead and trust that she was following in the shadows without looking back. That was his whole deal. Correct. But I feel like I would have questions. Before I went, yeah, I'll do the challenge. I would say, what's the finish line?

Like I just said. I'm gonna sit in that chair, and I can't look at or for you or whatever until you sit down next to me. Like I would be like, okay, I will reach the destination and I will sit and wait. You would. And that's what I would do. And then you would show up and I'd go, you did it.

And we would celebrate, and it would be very fun. But I like that they're they're doing the trend on a smaller scale. Where it's it's like TikTokers. Yeah. Yeah.

And they're just like, I mean, the the ones of like she's just trying to keep up in step and she's got little legs and he's gone. That's fun. Like, I tried, but I can't keep up. And now I don't know where you went.

I I will try my hardest. But I won't let you down. You I just want you to know. I might lollygag, I might be distracted, but I'm not gonna let you down, dude. But I don't want to disappoint you.

You're not gonna disappoint. me. More than anything else. I will do whatever it takes to make it to the end because I'm like, I can't I can't disappoint him. I guess I gotta get there. I'm gonna miss the flight. No. I'll get there. Don't even stress. All right.

I'm gonna be on the airplane.

Like then I'll show up. I'll be like, I'm here. I'm here.

As the door is closing. Oh no. I did it. Barely. It'll be that close. I think you'll do well. I will I will. Let's do it. Okay. Book an airplane. Book an airplane. Where are we going? I somewhere. Okay. You let me know. And then we'll go. Okay.

I think we determined my competitive spirit.

I think so. I think we had a good conversation about it over the weekend. I think it was a healthy conversation. And I think we're ready for you to uh to just concede all competition. How do you want to uh proceed? You let me know. I'm just I'm just here to go ahead and uh accept whatever kind of stance on competition you'd like to present. Go ahead.

So typically it's been I'm not really competitive unless it's against you. That's right. And then I just want to beat you. You just want to beat me. Whatever it is. And then I never do. That's not true. There's been a couple of times I've beat you.

Yeah, and you're real humble about it.

That feeling is so sweet. Yeah. Is it? Yeah. Yeah, I like it. Uh and then there's been some talk before on the radio where I've said some things that sound like I don't care about winning and I never will.

And then I can say something like Mario Kart. And I'm better than you, and Luigi is faster than Yoshi. And you just are like, I know you're better at Mario Kart than me. And you've known how to play the game since you were born, and I didn't treat you or uh teach you anything. Uh you knew all of the things on how to drift and how to launch uh quickly off the line. You knew all of those things before you put a controller in your hand, and that's why you're better than me. That's what you said.

I never said that. No, really. You didn't even know how to play the game until I showed you all the tricks. You don't know anything about Mario Kart. Mario Kart's the best game ever.

Nobody's better than Yoshi. You don't know anything. That's what you usually say. And then I go, Oh, yeah? You want to have a competition? And you're like, kinda, because I like playing Mario Kart, but you can't win. Something like that.

I don't even don't even get me started. Go ahead with the competition. I think we determined that I get competitive when I think I'm good at the game. So we start playing the game, and I go, oh, actually, I'm kind of good at this. I'm gonna smoke you.

And then my competitive spirit gets ramped up on it. Right. I bet I can win at this. Right. But two minutes in, if I know that I'm terrible at the game, I'm like, I'm not gonna win, so I'm just here to have fun.

And then you just start goofing off.

Yeah, I do.

And then you're like, I'm just here for a good time. And I don't know. And then everything. You were very competitive until just now. And now you're here for a good time.

Now when you know that you're losing and there's no chance that you're gonna win.

going to win. Which is frustrating because I was hoping for a good competitor. But instead, I got a goof. I got a jester. I said, bring me a knight so that I can battle. And they went, how about this one? And you went, look at me, juggle.

That's what happens. This is not a night. You've brought me a court jester. But did you have fun? See? And then that's I mean, sometimes. Sometimes is the answer. Sometimes. Yeah. Sometimes I wish I had a competitor.

Then present a game that I can win. Be a better competitor.

Rise to the challenge. I try.

I think I put a good effort in when we first begin. And then I go, hmm. Yeah, I don't know how to play this game. And also I'm not good at it.

So I'm not going to practice and learn controls. I can't just button mash my way through this one.

Now I'm going to ruin it for everyone.

So this isn't just video games. We've kind of used that as the analogy here, but there are plenty of times where it's anything. Hey, you want to go golfing? I like to drive the cart. No good at the game. I'm not going to practice my swing and actually like try to be better.

But I'll drive the cart like a maniac and run your ball over. Because I think it's funny. So, you know. You're right. I am zero amounts of fun. No, that is not what I'm saying at all. You're heaps of fun. Sometimes I want a competitor. Sometimes I'm like, hey, maybe uh play the game.

Maybe just try a little bit harder.

You're like, can I just sit out this hole? And then And then you're just like in the cart watching me golf. Yeah. Yeah.

And then I go, I wish I had brought a book.

Yeah, right. This was this was a good idea until it was 18 holes of hours long golf. Yeah.

Bro, 18 holes is too many holes of golf. I don't like golf. I don't.

But to like driving the cart. I do like driving the cart. Said I don't really like golf, but I like the go-kart part of it. Oh, yeah. I like driving the go-kart.

Yeah. I like that part. Uh huh. Don't go on the green.

Okay, let's go go kart racing. Okay. Will you be a good competitor? No. Why? It goes too fast. It's dangerous. And your middle name is Avoids Danger. So mitigated risk. I'm sorry.

Emery did say that she's. Within my limits. She likes to ride with you in the go-kart because I go too slow. It's Scary.

It's not scary. You know what really gets my goat. Is that the thing? Is that the right thing? What's that, dear? Oh man. You know, I don't even know where I saw this. Probably on a commercial or something. I don't like it when people talk in unison. I don't. I think it's uh it's a weird thing.

Like if it's a pre-planned Yeah, it's a scripted thing.

It's a scripted thing where they're like, we're gonna say the our individual parts, and then at the end we're gonna say it together. I don't like that. Ugh. I don't know why. I just am not a fan.

There's not, we've been together for a very long time, so there's not a lot I don't know about you. Yeah. But that was one I did not know. When you brought that up for the weekend, I went, huh?

I'm trying to remember what I saw. The that sort of thing. I think it was a commercial. I'm pretty sure it would have been.

And the yeah, it was two dudes, and they were working at like a construction job or something. Yeah.

And they were speaking in unison.

Let's do it together. I don't like it. What about it makes you upset? Um all of it.

Mostly? Mostly all of it. Okay. I don't really know. Um, other than to other than to say that like it's icky. It gives me the ick. Okay.

I don't I don't care one way or another about it. Okay.

Maybe it's I'm I'm really trying to figure out. Like, is it uh? I don't know what it is. I why don't I like it? I'm really trying to soul search here. Like, what is it about it that makes me go, oh I would like to never hear that again. What's the problem? Like, what's broken in me that says, yeah, I don't ever want to do that. And I don't know the answer. Well, most of all of our

neurosynapses happened when we were children, right? So these these core memories happened when we were kids. So I wonder if you heard something when you were little and it just possible. That's possible. Now I kind of just want everybody around you to talk in unison. Please don't. I want everybody to call you pistol, because that's your nickname.

It's not, and no one calls me that.

Everybody. Oh, I want a big group of people to greet you. Oh, you do you have a meeting today? No. You you don't. Are you just saying that because you don't want me to there's no meetings on the calendar.

You usually have a meeting on Mondays. Not today. I'm gonna gather all the people in your meeting and say, hey, listen, when Josh enters the room. No. All of you in unison. Hey, what up, pistol? No. I gotta go coach them. No.

Why? Why would you do something you know I don't like? Like, do something awesome. Like everybody bring him brownies. Like, do something awesome.

I do I do awesome stuff all the time. I gotta do stuff that makes you angry some of the time. Right.

That's it. That's healthy. That's that's a thing. What's wrong with me? Why don't I like it? I don't know. But I'm never telling you what I don't like ever again. No, get out of here. I'm gonna get everybody to do the thing you eat. Get ready.

It's Because it's funny. It's harmless. Yeah. It just makes you a little bit crazy. And then you walk away, you go, that was funny. Oh, yeah? Mm-hmm. Okay. I won't do it. Mostly because I don't know who attends the meeting. That's right. Good answer. I don't know why I don't like it. It just weirds me out.

Like it, like if there are there are several like radio commercials I've heard over the years where people do that. Come and see us today. And they'll say in unison. And I go, stop it. Stop. One of you could have said it. That would have been fine.

What's the point of you both saying it?

I also, you know what else I don't like? What? When people try to do sing song-y or poetry type radio commercials. I don't like that either. I do sing song-y stuff. No, I like when you when you do your silly uh like made-up jingle thing.

That's fine. But like when they when they try to do like fall is in the air and come and see us because we care. Stop it. Stop. It's it's hokey. I don't like it. What are you doing?

Now I want every radio commercial.

But they'll do that. Fall is in the air and then in unison and they'll go, come see us cuz we care. And I go, ugh.

There's a double way on me. Yuck. We did a surprise um clean of our bedroom, like uh Yeah, it was definitely not prompted.

No.

I said, let's let's work on shampooing the carpets because I wanted to do that. Right.

And that became okay. Well, let's start in the bedroom. This was Saturday morning. Yeah. Why did why do we do that? I don't know. But we the project was let's take everything out of the room because you've got to get to the carpet. So that means you gotta take the dresser and the nightstands and the bed all out of the room.

We really know how to live it up on the weekend.

I mean, look, it was hot outside. Yeah. And uh it wasn't like, you know, a bike ride would have been nice, but that's fine. We did this instead. So we took all the stuff literally out of the room, shampooed the thing.

We washed the walls. We did.

Which has never happened in the 14 years we've lived there. Who even are we? Normally we just paint them. I'm not washing this, but we did, and we dusted everything. We took all the art off the walls and dusted that. Like everything in there got like clean. Yeah. Which was it was a nice deep clean. I thought of us.

I know. And then we put the room back together, and for half a minute I thought, well, if everything's out, this is an opportunity to turn things to different walls, and maybe we want to rotate the room around. And then I went, I can't be bothered. Because then I'm gonna have to move the TV, and it's just I don't want to deal with all that. Like I've got to move the wall mount. No, thanks. So I just said uh no.

I agreed. I was like, I like the the room the way it is. I'm fine.

So uh put it all back together, and uh and off we go with like a very deep cleaned room. We didn't wash the curtains. You thought maybe we should. I might still. Okay. Um I'm sure they'll fall off the curtain rod at some point. You can just do it there. They will. Because I'm always doing that. I know.

We decided that we were gonna like put in minimal amounts of stuff because the room became kind of a catch-all for everything, and so we're keeping it very basic.

Yeah, I didn't want like a whole bunch of stuff on the dresser because like I'm a piles guy. Yeah. And currently my pile is sitting in multiple sorted out piles that need to go to different parts of the house on the dining room table. I've got uh a pile for the garage, a pile for the basement, a pile for scout stuff, a pile for camping gear. I've got all this stuff because when I got done with anything, I go, oh, I'll just put that there and I'll put it away later. And then I don't. So I wanted to make sure that like the bedroom's gotta be a nice little sanctuary. Yeah.

Somewhere we can go and we can like relax. And so I I was trying to solve my piles issue. Uh I'll get it cleaned up today, I hope. Because it's been tough trying to find somewhere to eat dinner. We ate outside last night because we couldn't. We were like, what is going on? Somewhere to eat.

My favorite part of the bedroom clean out though was you put together the bed. You had to take the bed apart to take it out of the room. Right. And then when you were putting it back together, you said, hey, look, locate. what? Go ahead. You said locate that squeak.

Right. Like I was putting it together and then it went and I went, what is that? Because we have we have like a uh adjustable platform that the mattress sits on. I knew it wasn't that. It's the actual like headboard bed rail thing, and it's squeaking like my chair.

It's driving me nuts. Okay, but when you say to me, locate that squeak, did you see my face? Yeah, you went, what? I How?

don't but then you did put your ear down by the ground. Like you were trying to check if a train was coming. You went, okay, let me look. We did find it. It was it was a loose screw.

I think that up. That's right. That's a that's a game show. Yeah. Find the squeak. Tonight on Find the Squeak. That was the job you gave me. I walked in the bedroom and you said, hey, locate that squeak. And I'm I What are you talking about? Yeah, listen. How?

I don't know, but find it so I can fix it. Like, is it a door? What is it? That's actually it could be a good game. Tonight on Find the Squeak. Locate. And it's the living room. What is squeaking in the living room? And you have to figure it out by moving stuff, trying doors on things. You go, you go, I found the squeak.

And you have like a certain amount of time. Squeak located. And then you have to fix it. Fix the squeak. That's round two. Yeah, that is. You have a time limit. Uh-huh.

You have a minute and a half to locate and fix the squeeze.

Yeah, the one in the studio is my chair. Okay.

Step one, you've located.

Yeah, I don't know what to do to fix it. I don't know what's causing it. Do you have a little bit of grease? Grease. This is not a wheel. It is a chair. Grease. Yeah. You got grease. No. I don't have chair grease. Thanks for asking. Hey. Hey. Would you rather this or that? I like today's.

Okay. Because I don't want to do either one of them.

Oh, great. Well, then you get to pick first.

Would you rather be the PTO president? Yeah. Or in charge of the school Halloween carnival.

Is the is the carnival worse than field day? Yeah, I Yes. guess. Yes.

Let me be clear. I was never in charge of either one of these things.

But I'm not sure. You were the you were the assistant PTO president for a year.

Close enough proximity to this stuff that I knew.

Vice president. Is that the word?

I didn't do anything. I was very, very bad.

PTO vice president for a year.

That I was very, very bad at that job. But I know the amount of effort and work required to do both of these things. And they are both awful.

Ugh. So that being said, we need PT. I already know what I'm picking. I know, and I appreciate the parents that do step up and do this stuff. This is a big deal. I know which one I'm picking.

I'm going to pick the carnival because it's a one and done.

That's exactly why I'm picking the carnival as well. I'm going to suffer through uh a a week or two of organizing and the day of event, and then I'm done. Yeah.

Rather than go the whole year still trying to keep up with responsibility. No way. It's a big job. It is. And it's a very thankless job. Absolutely. And you don't get paid. So it's just a volunteer thankless job. You are correct. It's often what volunteerism has turned to. A very thankless. You're absolutely correct. In a lot of ways.

Yeah, but I'm picking the carnival because that's a one and done. Same. Yeah. Good logic on that one.

Good luck, PTO people this year. You're in the PTO. We see you. I see you. It's a lot of work.

Would you rather this or that? Okay. What's up? Sorry. What happened? You're choking. Do you need do you mean to run around? No, I'm good. I'm C P R A E D certified. What do you need? I'm good. Do you need me to get help? No, I'm good. I said I'm good. Okay.

Uh I was just thinking about dinner last night at how oh delicious it was. Oh. Yeah? You made steak.

I made steak bites. I made roasted potatoes. I did asparagus and I did uh summer squash and zucchini. Roast I made yeah, roasted, and then I made a uh uh salad with cucumbers and cherry tomatoes and some shallot and stuff. Yeah, it was good. It was a good dinner.

The zucchini, the summer, the yellow squash, the cucumber and the tomato. Yeah, all came from the garden that you grew. That is correct. Listen to me. Right now, everyone. The Josh grows a garden. Yes, makes me pickled beets. That's right. Cooks dinner from the vegetables that he grew. Right. And washes my laundry and stain treats my clothes. And I make the bed. And you make the bed. Right. You're pretty great.

Still sometimes go like, I wish somebody would help around around here. I know. I still get told that. So just in case you also wanted to know.

Same. It's never good enough. You can do all of that stuff. And your wife will still be like, can you do more?

Why are you sitting down?

I would really like some help around here.

You're always on your phone. I go, okay. I guess so. You're right.

We were eating dinner last night, and I go, I really am very, very lucky. And I said marrying you was the best decision I ever made. And the kids went, uh. ugh. Enough. And then it was shortly after that. They got up and left.

Yeah, no, they did take their dishes. They did the dishes last night. I was like, let's go. That was awesome. Uh, but they were pretty stoked about dinner. Uh our daughter in particular, I think ate more steak than anybody else at the table. And every bite, she's like, This is amazing.

It was really good. Yeah, well. Glad I could provoke it. If you made an here's the thing, my steak is not the steak that everybody else likes to eat.

Yeah, no, you like it a little more well done. But I think it's just because you haven't really been exposed to like really well prepared, good steak. So that's why like I when I do the steak bites, I'll just do them all the same because I'm just gonna cook one batch um of those rather than like if I was making everybody their own steak, I would do yours differently because it's a whole steak. Yeah. Um, because it's how you like that, like a hockey puck.

I don't even care. I don't I don't like the pink in there. And everyone right now who likes steak is like, you're wrong. Yeah, I am.

But I I also don't like prime rib like at all. I don't care for it. Everyone's like, you're wrong. I don't like it. And the fact that you have to cover it in horseradish to make it edible should tell you everything you need to know. Because horseradish is very overpowering. And it's good, but no, prime rib's not my thing. The other thing I thought I should have done. I had some carrots, and you and you were gonna take some of the carrots for lunch, but then change your mind. Uh last minute of the stuff. I'll take it until tomorrow.

I know. I'm just I should have maybe roasted up some carrots. That would have been good too.

That would have been good. Um, and the kids don't like cooked carrots, so that would have been just for you and me. I love cook cakes.

Those would uh I've got some more carrots growing, so if they turn out, I'll get some roasted carrots. I'm just impressed. Yeah? Yeah. I've made homemade pickles, which is good. Um, those are growing.

You're gonna make some pickled okra. Oh, yeah, I gotta get that done. So I did try the beets a couple of days after you pickled them. Right.

And they were you said they weren't ready. You were like, these need to go. You have a video of you when you spilled the beet juice. You said could they stay in there longer? Yes, they could. They've stayed in there longer.

Yeah. I tried them yesterday. They were really good. Good pickled beets. Good pickled beets, babe.

I'm impressed. You're welcome. Just doing my part. I did my part. Thanks.

You're welcome. Uh you can grow a garden and you can harvest food from it and you can eat it. And it's like that's that's the lesson everyone should know is that you can grow your own food. And it doesn't have to be an elaborate garden like what I have. You can do it in like a couple of pots in an apartment on a balcony.

True. Like you can grow your own food. If you want to make your own salsa, you can grow tomatoes and onions and peppers, and you can make your own salsa. You can do that. You can even grow garlic. I can't.

Mine didn't make it. But you can. Other people can. Mine didn't survive.

But you know, you win some, you lose some. My cilantro's dead too. Oh no. It dried up. Something happened. It's a brown, very brittle stick. Oh. Oh well. It's easy.

It's just salon all of the other stuff you made was awesome. We're gonna have corn soon. Yes. It's gonna be awesome. Squash for days.

It's gonna be uh it's gonna be a big fall.

Thanks, Josh. Thanks for doing your part.
