A space to settle in and listen, and see where the episode takes you. This inspiring, reflective podcast is an invitation to travel deeper, with compassionate self-enquiry.
Henny shares insights from her own life, alongside practices that help us connect with our inner wisdom, explore our relationship with change and find a greater sense of flow. Henny believes we all hold our own answers, so there are no one-size-fits-all solutions here. This is a space to be with what’s true for you, and to grow from there.
If you’re drawn to slowing down, listening in, and exploring what it means to live with greater authenticity, this podcast is for you. Guided by psychology, mindfulness, therapeutic coaching, flow journaling, and everyday compassion, we explore ideas that help us step further into our inner worlds, in order to shape the changes we seek in our outer worlds.
So here I am in a very different location. I'm actually recording this from a hospital. I found a Quiet Corner. It's Saturday morning and you might hear lifts beeping and trolleys and maybe some voices but where I am is tucked away. Welcome to the Henny Flynn podcast, the space for deepening self awareness with profound self compassion.
Henny:I'm Henny. I write, coach and speak about how exploring our inner world can transform how we experience our outer world, all founded on a bedrock of self love. Settle in and listen and see where the episode takes you. And, I'm here, seeing a loved one. It's the reason why there wasn't an episode last week.
Henny:And, if you're part of the mailing list, then you'll know that I shared that this isn't just my story so it's not something that I can talk about but I wanted to give you a sense of the context and the space that I'm in And I really just wanted to show up today to talk a little bit about how life throws curveballs at us. And it's the work that we do in the quieter moments that I believe is what supports us when we're facing into the bigger stuff. In so many ways this experience that I'm having right now has been the most beautiful painful reminder of why this work of compassionate self inquiry is so vital. Because for me it's the thing that enables us to hold space for ourselves within complexity and to be able to hold space for others. To step out of the place of judgment and criticism and wanting to fix and to be able to be with everything that's arising.
Henny:That's really at the heart of this first season of the field. The gate to the field for season one is now closed, But we are just beginning the work in there and I'm really, really excited to work with everyone that has signed up for these next three months. But I, was sort of also wanting to name the fact that you know we can have these tools and we can practice these tools and our humanness still shows up you know it's hard dealing with high stress situations it's hard dealing with you know times when we get triggered. It's hard when we find an old pattern of behavior reasserting itself and you know kicking back in and you know we think to ourselves oh I thought I didn't do that anymore but oh hey here we are doing it. And so the really important thing here is to also hold all of that with compassion and with that comes the kind of spaciousness around the response that we're having to something which then enables us to more quickly make the choice about well is this how I wish to respond or is there another way that I can navigate what's happening right now.
Henny:So it doesn't mean that we suddenly become this kind of Zen Buddhist you know esoteric you know perfection of you know of humanity and and you know soulfulness. It means that we're able to hold our humanness with so much love that we can then make choices about how we deal with the way that we're responding to something or the way we're reacting to something and then we can choose our response. Yeah, so I think that feels really important and it's, you know, this whole thing that I'm experiencing has really reminded me of that, you know. It's very easy to be, you know always calm always thoughtful always present when when we're not facing into something that feels particularly immediately and suddenly hard. And you know and at no point is the intention that we should ever think that we have to always be like that.
Henny:When I was working with the the IMMERSE group, IMMERSE is the year long programme of work that I do with a small group of people and we're at month eight. We've just completed month eight of this particular cohort, which seems amazing to me. The next cohort begins in in October when this one finishes and. Oh, my brain is just completely lost that thread of thought. What was I saying?
Henny:Well, that also is a really brilliant indication of, you know, a mind that is holding a lot of stuff right now. You know, I I have been very, very aware of my brain kinda going offline, be it really having to just narrow down my focus and only deal with the things that are absolutely priority essential. And then I've watched my brain, We know more of my brain coming back online and I've been able to think more rationally, creatively, more compassionately. And you know, and I have actually sort of, know, I feel resourced. I feel resourced and able to do the work that I need to do.
Henny:And also that moment just then when my sort of brain just went like completely empty. Well, that's a sign of, you know, a brain that's having to deal with a lot. And so I also hold that with compassion and, know, maybe at some point I'll remember what it was I was going to say and I'll put it into the email that goes out with this. Anyway, I think that's it for today. Need to go back and I just wanted to check-in with all of you really and just to say you know if you're facing into something that is hard right now know hold space for yourself resource yourself, reach out to the people who can support you and it is that way that we are then able to resource and support others.
Henny:I don't know if you can hear the lift in the background but please feels like a perfect moment to end this if you heard that. Alright, take care everybody and I send you love and a hug and a wave.
