Speaker 2:So let's get into what this episode is about. Today, we are talking about ET tapping. So you might be tuning in. Maybe you heard or maybe you saw the title of this episode, and you're like, I've heard about EFT tapping. I'm a little bit more curious about what it is.
Speaker 2:Maybe you've tried EFT tapping before, and you're just like, the does this really work? Trust me. Y'all, it works. Okay. I've used this on myself.
Speaker 2:I've used this on Praxis tutoring clients. I've used this on other coaching clients that I have outside of the speech pathology industry, and I've helped a lot of people, including myself, make leaps and bounds in building their self confidence and attracting what they want in their lives, y'all. Let me give you a great example. So I was really hesitant to join a coaching program. It's called DCI, Dharma Coaching Institute.
Speaker 2:And right now, I am actually learning how to be a dharma coach, which is essentially a life purpose coach. Now I knew that my soul was calling me to this. At the same time, I was a little bit nervous and hesitant because the monthly payment was a large number. At the same time, I prayed about it. I meditated on it, and I'm just like, God, give me a sign.
Speaker 2:God, give me a sign. And I reached out to my previous classmates from another coaching cohort and just some close friends, and I asked for prayer and well wishes. Well, I ended up meeting up with one of my friends for a mock coaching session, and she did EFT tapping with me. And when I tell you, I kid you not, 2 days later, I just felt the the ease in my spirit to be like, okay. This is something that I can invest in and that I trust that by investing myself, it's already covered.
Speaker 2:So I want y'all to have that same experience when you're studying for the SLP practice exam. So let's get into it. What is EFT tapping? EFT stands for emotional freedom techniques. It's acupressure based technique for emotional well-being and stress relief.
Speaker 2:I don't know about y'all, but I need some emotional well-being and stress relief, like, every single day. Okay? So I already know that you might be experiencing some emotional distress if you're still in graduate school and if you're like, oh my gosh. I don't know where I'm gonna go for my clinical fellowship here, and and then I have to worry about my finals and then my externships and class projects and the practice exam, and I have to pass, that can take a toll on your emotions. So that's why I really want to introduce EFT tapping to you today so that way you can release a lot of that anxiety out of your system.
Speaker 2:There are 3 ways that you can use EFT tapping for your practice test preparation that I'll introduce today. One of them is to release your test taking anxiety. A lot of us have test anxiety. I was one of them. And what EFT tapping does is it releases the tension with affirmations just to help you ease your nervous system.
Speaker 2:There are studies you can find 1. I'll include that link to the show notes as well. And they found that over half of the participants of the study documented a lot of ease and released anxiety when taking their exams. So this is definitely something that you should check into if you have test taking anxiety. Another way that you can use EFT tapping for test preparation is through battling imposter syndrome.
Speaker 2:So if you are someone who struggles with imposter syndrome or maybe you don't exactly know what imposter syndrome means, I'll give you a good example of how imposter syndrome manifests when it comes to taking the SLP practice exam. I had a client a couple years ago, and she came to me, and she was so used to being the star of her class. People would come to her for anatomy and physiology advice, which I know personally, AMP was something that I had to go to my classmates for for advice. So she was that classmate, but then she noticed that she just could not get over the hurdle of passing the SLP practice exam. So when we went through our first session, I always like to do the visualization goals and writing down affirmations that really resonate with us.
Speaker 2:And, intuitively, I felt to say I deserve to be in this field. So I wrote that down for her to recite, and then she starts bawling crying. And so I can just imagine how many more of you who might be listening to this, like, wow. Oh my gosh. I've gone through so many trials and tribulations already, and I haven't even become certified yet.
Speaker 2:Am I really supposed to be here? Am I really that smart? Am I really that cut out for it? Am I really worthy? And the answer is yes.
Speaker 2:I'm here to tell you that if you made it this far, then you are supposed to be here. I guarantee you that. Of course, your purpose or your why in the field might change the way that you show up as a speech language pathologist might change, but you are supposed to be in this space. That's just a side soap box that I wanted to give y'all. But yes, using EFT tapping to navigate your imposter syndrome is a great way to own your success and build your confidence and send love back to yourself and back to your system, affirming that you do deserve to be in this space and that you can get through anything that you desire to accomplish.
Speaker 2:The last thing I want to mention that you could use EFT tapping for is to build yourself confident. So I know the first time I took the SLP practice exam when I got the 159, which of course was so annoying because it's just a few points off, I did not have a lot of self confidence. I was kind of being very lackadaisical with my studying. I it was a lot more comforting to me to go out and party than be disciplined and sit and navigate the whole test preparation process. I just I I subconsciously didn't actually believe I was capable of passing the exam.
Speaker 2:Now, of course, when you have those limiting beliefs, what happens is you think about past programming or past traumatic experiences where you come up with that limiting decision. So for me, it was when I took the I mean, shoot. What just came to my head was, like, benchmark test in the 3rd grade, and it was the mathematics benchmark test. And I did not do well with those, and I remember telling my teacher, I don't think I'm good at I'm just not good at math, and she nipped it in the bud. She wasn't very gentle about it, which I think traumatized me a little bit more.
Speaker 2:She's like, don't say that. You know? But still, maybe that was something I needed to hear. But then fast forward when it came time to take the ACT, thank God that Howard University looks at the holistic application and not just the standardized score. Same thing, I went to Howard again for grad school, and my GRE, I honestly don't remember the score because I just I just knew.
Speaker 2:I just knew. So that is one thing I will say is, again, you are not alone if you can resonate with what I'm saying to you. And no, I did not use EFT to build my self confidence. Thankfully, I used my intuition, which is a whole other series using your intuition. But I use EFT on my coaching client, so that way they can build their self confidence.
Speaker 2:And I use EFT on myself so I can build my own self confidence as a clinician and an entrepreneur. So use EFT so that way you can recognize your own self doubt patterns and use EFT to foster that self assurance. So ways that you can navigate or integrate EFT into your routine is by doing it before you go to bed, doing it first thing in the morning, or taking steady breaks. Those are all ways that you can use EFT tapping. So if you liked this podcast episode or are watching this on YouTube, understand that EFT tapping is truly a secret sauce to regulating your nervous system and releasing that anxiety that you might feel around the SLP practice exam.
Speaker 2:I have used this on clients. I use this with my private coaching clients and clients in my group programs, and I always receive great reviews that EFT tapping has helped them enter into this practice journey with a clear head. So if this is something that you believe that you are interested in, you can go to the YouTube channel and find different EFT tapping videos that are already up.
