Micah 7: 18-20
A weekday morning devotional series written by Aaron Marcarelli and hosted by Chad McBeam
“Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love. He will again have compassion on us; He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes, You will cast all their sins Into the depths of the sea. You will give truth to Jacob And unchanging love to Abraham, Which You swore to our forefathers From the days of old.”
Micah 7:18-20 NASB1995
A little history lesson on Micah: As a contemporary of Isaiah and Hosea, Micah prophesied during the momentous years surrounding the tragic fall of Israel to the Assyrian Empire (722 BC), an event he also predicted (Micah 1:6). Micah stated in his introduction to the book that he prophesied during the reigns of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah in Judah…(Insight.org)
Micah also predicted the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2-5)
Therefore, in Chapter 7 Micah speaks these words. Israel is in the midst of calamity, there seems to be little hope, yet Micah preaches hope. The hope that, God will not forget us, God loves us, and He will forgive us. Once again we have a prophet relying on God’s promises. Micah also knows that these promises may not come to fruition in His lifetime. In fact Jesus would not be born for 700 years. And Israel would not become a Nation again for 2600 more years.
There are So many lessons to be learned here in these 3 verses in Micah Chapter 7. Here are the most important lessons:
1. God is who He says He is!
2. God will not ever leave us or forsake us!
3. God’s forgiveness is forever!
4. He will follow through on His promises!
5. The fulfillment of His promises may not be in our time, but they are always on time!
Therefore, we must be all in. We can’t just look at God as a vending machine. Only going to Him when we need or want something. Serving and loving God is not a part time deal. It’s a 24/7, lifetime deal.
Our relationship with Him, and our prayers to Him should be about How to serve, how to get through the struggles of life, how to help others get through their difficulties, and how to grow in and through those struggles.
Lord, thank you for prophets like Micah. Thank you that you left a record of His great faith. Help us to have faith like Him and the other prophets, disciples apostles, and followers of Christ. Help us to be refined through the fires of life. Help us to show others how to trust in you through life’s difficulties. Thank you Lord for your forgiveness and for your strength and your promises. Help us to rest and trust in you in you each and every day!
In Jesus Name Amen…
Shalom, Blessings and Press In and Press On!
