Hello before get into today's episode of WORDTheatre Weekly, we want to take a moment to say how deeply affected we are by the devastation being wrought here in our home city of Los Angeles. So many friends and members of the WORDTheatre community have lost their homes along with everything they have created their entire lives. This situation is ongoing and the fear is traumatizing. Our thoughts are with everyone who is suffering from this tragedy.

At WORDTheatre, we believe great stories bring people together and so we will continue our mission to do just that by sharing a new story with you each week here on WORDTheatre Weekly.

Today we bring you "Oiga," a story by the 2014 Los Angeles Poet Laureate, Luis Rodriguez.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE WAS A TECHNICAL GLITCH IN THE AUDIO AT 22:53 AND ONE SENTENCE SOUNDS GARBLED. IT SHOULD READ ––

"I didn't know what to do. I wanted to yell, but the sergeant looked at me, telling me with a look that I'd better not say nothing."

Here now is Luis to introduce his story.
