Shalom and welcome, dear friends. Today, we delve into the Pirkey Avot, in particular, Chapter 1, Mishna 6. It reads, "Joshua the son of Perachia said, 'Make for yourself a mentor, acquire for yourself a friend, and judge every person favorably.'"
Life, as we know it, is a journey of learning and growth. Joshua the son of Perachia urges us to seek a mentor, someone who can guide us, correct us, and enlighten us. This mentor could be anyone, from a spiritual guide to a teacher, or even a friend. It's important to find someone who can help us navigate life's complexities with wisdom and insight.
The second part of the Mishna tells us to 'acquire a friend'. Friendships are not just about companionship; they are about mutual growth, support, and accountability. A good friend challenges us, supports us, and inspires us to be better versions of ourselves.
Lastly, the Mishna tells us to 'judge every person favorably.' In today's world, it's easy to pass judgments and make assumptions about others. However, the Torah reminds us to give others the benefit of the doubt, to see the good in them, and to treat everyone with fairness and kindness.
In our daily lives, let's remember these three pieces of wisdom: seek mentorship, build genuine friendships, and see the good in others.
