[00:01:11 - 00:01:17] My whole family went and saw the Odyssey together. That's true. And that was a lot of fun dope very I had a movie
[00:01:17 - 00:01:20] themed birthday a little bit and then we played some Catan and
[00:01:20 - 00:01:24] Got kind of mad at each other and it was awesome. Yeah, that's poor for the course
[00:01:24 - 00:01:28] Now I had a great birthday, but every time I think it's hot. I get so mad at Ethan
[00:01:28 - 00:01:32] Ethan is my brother. He's a very good at Catan
[00:01:32 - 00:01:37] Which I don't know how it's possible because it's like chance and luck, but he's just good at it. It's annoying
[00:01:37 - 00:01:43] But this is very annoying. Anyway, that's okay. Yeah, I've won a game though. Oh, good job
[00:01:43 - 00:01:47] I didn't well my wife actually won the game when we play but I have won a game

[00:06:46 - 00:06:52] There's a lot of reasons I was actually thinking about this like specifically knowing that I was going to have to talk about this movie. Um,

[00:06:55 - 00:06:57] You can just say like, oh, it's a classic. Oh, it's like
[00:06:57 - 00:06:59] whatever, um
[00:06:59 - 00:07:06] I think there's a lot of elements that make this movie so good and so rewatchable for me. Um, I think this movie is incredibly well made

[00:07:07 - 00:07:11] Looks amazing. Definitely a little cheesy like the ro us's look a little silly
[00:07:12 - 00:07:17] But like it's just it looks great. Um, I think every performance is awesome
[00:07:18 - 00:07:22] Like like this movie is so quotable. So funny. The one-liners here
[00:07:23 - 00:07:27] They're awesome. We're funny when I was 10 and they are still more hilarious than they were
[00:07:27 - 00:07:33] This movie has aged incredibly for sure. Um, I if you didn't grow up on it, which I kind of did
[00:07:33 - 00:07:38] I think you might have a harder time getting into it. It's a little bit more of a cult classic
[00:07:38 - 00:07:42] That's just turned into a classic. Do you think that's true? This movie was not popular when it came out
[00:07:42 - 00:07:44] well, that's true, but like
[00:07:44 - 00:07:46] Do you think that it's true that
[00:07:46 - 00:07:50] If you weren't raised on like we were like my mom showed this to me when I was like eight
[00:07:51 - 00:07:53] So like we have both
[00:07:53 - 00:07:57] Watch this at least once a year for a whole for our entire life. Yeah
[00:07:57 - 00:08:01] But I would argue that it like this movie is funny. Funny. No. Yeah, this is 100 funny
[00:08:01 - 00:08:04] I think you can totally enjoy it if you didn't grow up on it
[00:08:04 - 00:08:07] I saw somebody comment this on we were talking about star wars recently
[00:08:07 - 00:08:12] Which by the way, if you haven't seen our star wars hot takes videos or watch it marathon go watch those
[00:08:12 - 00:08:18] Those are on the channel. Um, but somebody commented like hey, I just I watched star wars
[00:08:19 - 00:08:22] Like just recently. Yeah, um for the first time
[00:08:22 - 00:08:26] I didn't grow up on it and I kind of like uh, it's a it's all right
[00:08:26 - 00:08:31] Um, which if I can't I don't remember your name whoever commented that but I'm referencing you
[00:08:31 - 00:08:33] so sorry, I forgot your name, but
[00:08:34 - 00:08:37] I think that's like kind of not really an element here
[00:08:37 - 00:08:40] But it totally could be if like if you didn't grow up on you be like, oh, it's a good movie. Yeah
[00:08:41 - 00:08:43] You might not even like it. I think it's hilarious
[00:08:43 - 00:08:48] But I will say I I think I'd like this movie more every single time I watch it like
[00:08:49 - 00:08:51] I think if you've only seen it once you should go back and rewatch it
[00:08:51 - 00:08:54] Maybe that's what I'm trying to say here. Why do you think it grows on you?
[00:08:55 - 00:08:59] Well, okay. I think there's a lot of timelessness in like the story itself
[00:08:59 - 00:09:00] I agree
[00:09:00 - 00:09:02] Obviously like it's about love
[00:09:03 - 00:09:06] Like this movie is true. Wow true love
[00:09:07 - 00:09:09] And like yes, Wesley and buttercup
[00:09:09 - 00:09:14] But there's a timelessness specifically with like the grandfather and the grandson. Yeah
[00:09:15 - 00:09:18] And that love story and that affection and then like
[00:09:19 - 00:09:23] It's it's wrapped into storytelling itself, which is like one of my favorite things
[00:09:24 - 00:09:29] So like the fact that love and emotion and connection are tied into storytelling. It's just it's so good
[00:09:29 - 00:09:30] um
[00:09:30 - 00:09:35] And I think like as you get older if you have a child or maybe a grandchild or
[00:09:36 - 00:09:39] I mean, we all have a parent or a grandparents somewhere
[00:09:39 - 00:09:41] If you're close with them or not, but like
[00:09:42 - 00:09:45] You know, there's somebody you're connected to or close to in your life most likely
[00:09:46 - 00:09:48] and I think that idea of like
[00:09:49 - 00:09:51] Loving somebody being close to someone
[00:09:51 - 00:09:54] Is conveyed so well. And so like whether you have a grandparent
[00:09:54 - 00:09:59] You you were close to or are close to or a son or grandson or daughter granddaughter
[00:09:59 - 00:10:03] You're close to like those themes are timeless to everybody. I think that was long-winded, but that's
[00:10:04 - 00:10:09] When I talk about the themes of the movie and think about those that's where some of the timelessness comes in
[00:10:09 - 00:10:12] Yeah, and then paired with just like the actions so fun
[00:10:13 - 00:10:15] I think straight up the best sword fight ever put to screen
[00:10:16 - 00:10:19] I I would love to hear somebody argue another point
[00:10:20 - 00:10:23] I don't have one off the dome. I think this is better than every lightsaber fight in star wars
[00:10:23 - 00:10:29] Oh, that's crazy. Even like freaking most of our yes, this even do all the fates. This fight is better
[00:10:29 - 00:10:32] It's better. I promise you this. I mean like
[00:10:34 - 00:10:39] Maybe not emotionally that's about a piss. So I don't care. I don't even care anymore. It's my birthday
[00:10:40 - 00:10:41] um
[00:10:41 - 00:10:43] No, I I think that this fight
[00:10:43 - 00:10:46] It I mean the the character introduction of the man in black
[00:10:47 - 00:10:51] Which is westley obviously and I think you everybody kind of knows it when he right pops up
[00:10:52 - 00:10:53] but like
[00:10:53 - 00:10:55] The way the film kind of presents his
[00:10:56 - 00:10:58] Just intellectual prowess
[00:10:58 - 00:11:02] But also like his physical prowess like he is literally goaded at everything
[00:11:02 - 00:11:07] But also he's like kind and not a jerk about it. Yes. Yeah, he's not up and killing everybody
[00:11:07 - 00:11:09] Yeah, like he chooses not to kill inigo
[00:11:09 - 00:11:11] Or physique like he doesn't kill either of them
[00:11:12 - 00:11:13] um
[00:11:13 - 00:11:17] So anyway, like I think the way his introduction is so good
[00:11:18 - 00:11:20] um, and that ties into the fight so well
[00:11:21 - 00:11:22] um
[00:11:22 - 00:11:25] And then like right before the fight you get in it goes back story
[00:11:25 - 00:11:29] Yeah, and like his revenge are it's just like I think the setup for the fight is so good
[00:11:29 - 00:11:35] And the fight is like it's super well choreographed, but also it's like kind of goofy. Yeah, like
[00:11:36 - 00:11:41] When they're like doing flips off the bar and stuff like the conveniently placed bar with two handholds
[00:11:41 - 00:11:46] Yeah, it's like you see the trampoline and it's it feels so much like when you would read a story as a kid
[00:11:46 - 00:11:48] Like it's that fantastical like
[00:11:48 - 00:11:51] It it just plays into that just enough
[00:11:51 - 00:11:54] But it doesn't like go off the deep end with being goofy
[00:11:54 - 00:12:01] Like I say self serious enough, but also it's goofy enough. I like just finds the balance there. So anyway, that's just
[00:12:01 - 00:12:03] I mean the action is great. Um
[00:12:04 - 00:12:09] But this is something I like to my rewatch. I'm just gonna talk. That's it's your birthday. This is me talking

[00:12:14 - 00:12:21] But what I like that the movie does is that it shows Wesley as like being goaded and then it it nerfs him true
[00:12:21 - 00:12:27] It's like no Wesley's literally dead and then they bring him back. He's almost dead. He's almost he's mostly mostly dead
[00:12:28 - 00:12:29] um
[00:12:29 - 00:12:30] but
[00:12:30 - 00:12:31] then he like
[00:12:31 - 00:12:35] Can't use all of his physical traits and stuff that like he uses at the beginning of the movie
[00:12:36 - 00:12:38] and he has to like
[00:12:38 - 00:12:39] Get buttercup back
[00:12:39 - 00:12:42] By just being smart and cunning and wise and all these things
[00:12:43 - 00:12:49] And so I like that the movie doesn't just like have him win another swordfight or whatever like it's him trying to like
[00:12:50 - 00:12:53] I don't know plan and sneak his way into the castle to get buttercup back
[00:12:53 - 00:12:57] So I think the movie just like kind of finds its footing there, too
[00:12:57 - 00:13:04] Yeah, I agree. So your thoughts on your princess friday watch. Uh, I get to talk now. Yeah, you can talk now

[00:13:08 - 00:13:10] Yeah, I mean, I think this movie is
[00:13:10 - 00:13:12] Great. It was funnier than I remembered
[00:13:13 - 00:13:14] It's so funny
[00:13:14 - 00:13:20] Like there's there are the quotable lines of like marriage and my name is Anika Montoya
[00:13:20 - 00:13:21] You come out of a pair to die
[00:13:21 - 00:13:26] But then there are like the subtle lines that I have forgotten about that are wokey funnier. Yes 100%
[00:13:26 - 00:13:30] I mean every other line I had everyone's mouth. I'm like that's just great comedy
[00:13:31 - 00:13:36] This movie is kind of a gold mine for just like funny quips and like the script is great. It's so good
[00:13:36 - 00:13:40] It's so good, which by the way this was written by the guy the script was written by the guy who wrote the book
[00:13:40 - 00:13:45] Which is like that's awesome. Also like that never happens. So maybe it's like it's not a faithful adaptation
[00:13:45 - 00:13:50] It's literally written by the same guy. So all the changes that were made were like kind of made by him. Yeah, so
[00:13:51 - 00:13:53] um
[00:13:53 - 00:13:56] But yeah, and like again, I I also have this out of this movie of like
[00:13:57 - 00:14:01] What grew up watching it we did a play in seventh grade that was like
[00:14:01 - 00:14:03] Basically an adaptation of princess bride. Yeah, we did
[00:14:04 - 00:14:07] Um, so like a lot of the lines were just like ripped straight from the movie 100%
[00:14:07 - 00:14:12] So I like know them and I have I like oh, that's a friend who said that line playing the grandfather
[00:14:13 - 00:14:15] playing the little boy
[00:14:17 - 00:14:19] So yeah, like this movie is just
[00:14:20 - 00:14:24] A lot of childhood has been spent. Yeah with this movie. Yeah, I think it's everything
[00:14:24 - 00:14:29] You could want in a movie as an adult you want something funny. That's you know a brisk
[00:14:30 - 00:14:33] What's it? Maybe close to two hours doesn't feel long
[00:14:33 - 00:14:37] I mean you can always pause it pick it back up later if you've seen it a million times
[00:14:38 - 00:14:40] But then it's like as something to show your kids one day
[00:14:41 - 00:14:42] Um
[00:14:42 - 00:14:46] Like I think this movie has kind of everything that you need for something like that
[00:14:46 - 00:14:53] Um, and yeah, it's aged incredibly. So it is one of the most rewatchable movies. Oh, yeah, totally
[00:14:53 - 00:14:56] Like I I don't think I ever get sick of rewatching this movie ever
[00:14:56 - 00:14:59] Um, I think part of the reason it's my number one as well is like
[00:15:00 - 00:15:02] I do have personal attachment to this movie
[00:15:03 - 00:15:05] Like outside of just like I grew up on it
[00:15:05 - 00:15:11] Because my family has the weirdest tradition like of all time. It's a weird tradition. We do but this one like especially is weird
[00:15:12 - 00:15:14] It's it's not really weird random
[00:15:14 - 00:15:20] But we watch this movie the morning like Thanksgiving morning, which in the states Thanksgiving is like a big thing
[00:15:20 - 00:15:25] We watch that every year Thanksgiving morning for like no reason
[00:15:25 - 00:15:27] There's like no no reasoning behind it
[00:15:27 - 00:15:31] We just did it one year and we've done it every year since if you want to hear more of our family traditions
[00:15:31 - 00:15:36] Go watch our charlie brown Thanksgiving episode. That's true. That's true. I think I probably said that on that episode as well
[00:15:37 - 00:15:41] Um, but like my brother texted me because I was out of town for this past Thanksgiving
[00:15:41 - 00:15:45] Um, he was like, hey like we're watching the princess bride without you and I was like super sad
[00:15:46 - 00:15:49] So is that um, so this year I'm excited to run that how did that start?
[00:15:49 - 00:15:51] I literally think I put it on one Thanksgiving
[00:15:52 - 00:15:57] And it's just like the everything. Yeah, okay. I think that's it like there was no other reasoning
[00:15:57 - 00:16:02] But now there is like some fall vibes in there of like yeah all the leaves are changing color
[00:16:03 - 00:16:07] It's a bit of a reach. There's no real reasoning, but I love this movie
[00:16:07 - 00:16:11] So you watch like princess bride the morning and knives out at night. Oh man. That's a good fight
[00:16:12 - 00:16:16] It is funny that two of my movies in my top four are kind of more fall vibes
