Today we'll be doing
lesson three about focus.
So did you know that focusing
can improve your brain a lot?
Focusing improves the brain by triggering
neuroplasticity and then this scientific.
Like process happens, which enhances
your learning and alertness.
Sustained attention also increases
mental, um abilities, reduces stress,
and strengthens your cognitive control.
Regular practice of focus can boost
your pro product, brought productivity,
improve memory, and can rewire your
brain for better long-term concentration.
An example of focus is Nancy Drew.
If you haven't read the Nancy Drew series.
Nancy is a teenage detective who
loves solving mysteries and has
a very strong sense of justice.
One of the main reasons she investigates
cases is to help make things right for
people who have been treated unfairly.
In one of the books, the Secret of
the Old Clock, a wealthy man named
Josiah Crowley dies and leaves his
inheritance to the selfish top ham family.
He's a top ham family.
A family who?
Who?
Very selfish.
Yes.
Oh, and left his inheritance to
that family instead of hi, instead
of his family, like his relatives.
Who actually needed the money.
So Nancy later discovers
that there's a secret
start from here.
Another example of focus is Nancy Drew.
If you haven't read the Nancy Drew books.
Nancy is a teenage detective who
loves solving mysteries and has
a very strong sense of justice.
One of the main reasons she investigates
cases is to help make things right for
people who have been treated unfairly.
And one of the books, the Secret of the
Old Clock, a wealthy man named Josiah

To the selfish top him family, instead
of his str, STR, struggling relatives
who really needed the money, Nancy later
discovers that there may be a secret

Like any old clock, just an old clock.
And she has to race against the
top him family to find it first.
Like whoever finds it first.
So if Nancy finds it first, then she, uh,
then like, uh, the Josiah Crow's relatives
would be able to get their rightful money.
But like, if the top him family finds
it at first, they're probably just
gonna destroy it so they get the money.
Um, Nancy's cases, well, I mean,
eventually Nancy does find the hidden
will first and makes sure the inher
inheritance goes to the relatives who
actually needs it and deserves it.
Nancy's cases are often driven by
her strong sense of justice because
she cares deeply about helping
others and fighting the truth.
So she stays focused and determined
throughout her investigations.
Um, she's very similar to Pip from
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.
Um, it A Good Girl Guide to Murder.
It's a very, very good book and I feel
like a lot of you have probably read it.
So basically, if you haven't,
then Pip is like a self-made
detective in love solving mysteries.
The story begins when PIP decides
to investigate a murder case for her
school, for her school pro project.
Uh, basically Sal sang who.
Um, the town believes
that he killed Andy Bell.
Andy, Andy Bell.
Oh my God.
Who's Andy Bell?
A girl who the town
thinks that Sal killed.
Oh.
But instead of accepting the town's.
Assumptions.
Pip focuses on the facts because
like when Pip was younger, she knew
Sal and he had always been very kind
and friendly and open and sunshiney.
So because of this, she finds
a very hard to believe that he
would've committed a murder.
So her curiosity and determination, uh,
drives her to dig deeper into the case.
I can't tell you much more
without spoiling the story, so
you'll have to read the book and
find out what happens yourself.
But both Pip and Nancy Drew are very
focused detectives, or sleuths, as Nancy
likes to call it, but the reasons they
stay focused are a little different.
Pip is driven by curiosity, and
I feel like that's something
about the case just isn't right.
But I mean, she also does have
a strong sense of justice.
All detectives do.
And she can't ignore the idea that an
innocent person might have been blamed,
so she keeps digging for the truth.
Nancy, on the other hand, is mostly
motivated by her strong sense of justice.
She wants to help people who
have been treated unfairly and
make sure the truth comes out.
And even though their motivations are
different, both of them shows that
when you care deeply about something,
whether it's truth or justice, or
like the cases themself, it's, it
becomes much easier to stay determined
and focus on what you're doing.
So I know what you guys are thinking.
Like what if I don't
like whatever I'm doing?
So if you don't, then
think about the reward.
Let's say you're studying for a test.
After you study, you'll probably
get something back, right?
Yeah.
Like you'll get a good score
and your mom would be happy.
And then since you didn't
fail, you can probably go play.
Yeah.
So like that's the reward.
I mean, like.
What kind of kid doesn't
feel happy while playing?
I, I'm, I'm not blaming you that if you
like to study, okay, that's good, but
you probably don't like something else.
So if you don't like eating mustard and
your mom makes you, forces you to eat
mustard, maybe you're gonna get an ice
cream dessert after you eat that mustard.
So think about that and.
So if you work hard, you can play harder.
That's what my mom always told me.
Um, so I forgot one important detail.
Actually progress when you're
studying for your test.
If you like have no progress, like
you didn't learn anything, then
the studying doesn't really count.
Only if you actually focused, you made
progress because if you didn't focus and
make progress, you didn't learn anything
and you will like fail your test tomorrow.
So now my sister is gonna share a
story about focus, um, before recess,
like, and during the day at school.
If we focus and finish all our work,
then we can go to recess early.
But if we don't, like, if we don't focus
focus and we're very, very chatty, she'll
probably take away our extra recess and.
None of us will be happy.
Yeah.
So if, if, if you were stuck in class
and you're doing classwork and you
don't wanna do it, then think about
the extra recess you're gonna get or
whatever your teacher promises you
if you stay quiet and do your work.
Okay?
So the conclusion focus can help
you finish things faster and to
more efficiently and, but like.
Um, the focus was only real if
you actually make progress and
you're productive while focusing.
So, like, if you say you study for
a test, but like, you know, you
didn't actually like, focus on it,
then like, no one can help you.
That's your own problem.
If you fail a test next time, just
remember your failed test grade
and that'll be your motivation
to study and get a hundred.
So your mom won't be mad at you.
